Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

Beautiful wildlife sanctuary in Wayanad district. The Muthanga Range is excellent tourist destination. The drive to Muthanga is very special as you are going through dense forests and animal sighting is very usual. You see a lot of elephants, spotted deer, sambar deer, barking deer, wild boar, and Hanuman langurs on the way. When you are passing a sharp curve, go very slowly ensuring that there is no elephant on the way. A drive early in the morning is excellent.

I visited this wildlife sanctuary on Elephant Day, and it was truly unforgettable. The highlight was the elephant feeding activity, which turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. Watching these gentle giants up close and getting the chance to feed them was magical. We also enjoyed a safari ride, where we spotted deer, elephants, and vibrant peacocks in their natural habitat. The entire visit was peaceful, exciting, and a perfect way to connect with nature.

Good safari range. Recommended to visit in Summer if your goal is to spot wildlife. If you wisit in either rainy season or winter, animals won't even show up as they have plenty of water in every waterhole in forest. But if you seek to see vegetation post rains is good time to visit. This applies to all the safaris and forests down south.

Hardly any animal inside. Bus tickets will cost you 350 per head. Mostly peacocks and some deers, but the bus will hardly stop for you to get good pictures. The entire ride is for an hour mostly because of the bumpy forest road

A small group can take tickets for a jeep ride and larger groups can use the bus. If one is going for shorter visits (<3 days), this place will be a waste of time. We could only watch monkeys, deer and elephants (not wild).

Don't waste your time unless it is summer months. It's just some elephants (not in the wild, just in the camp) and peacocks. Some deers. Wild animal sightings are absolutely rare. For the price of 350 in a bus is okay but 2100 for a jeep is absolutely waste. We had to getup at 6 in the morning to reach there because of the limited entries that they provide. The Jeep drivers are professional and respectful towards the passengers.

Should go min 1hr before the safari time(safari two times a day - 7 AM & 3 PM) to get the ticket. Otherwise you would run out of luck.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary offers a refreshing escape into nature, with dense forests, calm surroundings, and a chance to spot elephants, deer, and rare birds. The safari experience is peaceful but sightings depend on luck, so go with patience. Cleanliness and maintenance could be improved, yet the natural charm makes it worthwhile.
