WE Hotel Toya (Toyakocho, Abuta-gun, Hokkaido Prefecture) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Overlooking the deep blue waters of the volcanic caldera known as Lake Toya, the WE Hotel is a resort that celebrates the comfort that comes not only from the fresh air of the neighboring parkland, but of the timber plentifully growing in Hokkaido. Architect Kengo Kuma took the forest as inspiration for the timber walls and the trunk-like columns and facades of WE. The warmly decorated rooms are bright, airy and open, letting the lake outside dominate the space, even from the bathroom. There’s a remarkable onsen here, with its own breathtaking lakeside vista; between baths, guests can visit a cocktail lounge, cigar bar, teppanyaki café, or a restaurant serving fastidiously prepared local cuisine." - Tablet Hotels

This is a cheap hotel charging high prices. The staff were however, courteous, friendly and helpful. ||The good|The view is spectacular but that’s where it ends. ||The bad|1) The onsen is tap water onsen. It’s a hot pool rather than an onsen. The water is stagnant without a continuous flow. ||2) The balcony bath tub’s water is so hot you can’t enter it and enjoy it. ||3) The taps and general interior design is cheap. It’s “good from far but far from good.” The room tap are so close to the sink you can’t fit the room’s tumber underneath it. You can tell when you get there that it’s a cheap design. There’s no ice water or snacks. ||4) There’s complimentary coffee…but not in the morning, however, it was available at 8:30pm. There’s complimentary sweets like ice cream but it’s not available in the evening. Again, it’s a cheap marketing gimmick. ||5) The housecleaning is also sub par for supposedly a 4 star. They didn’t return the cups after washing it, leaving it randomly on the sink counter and on the table. They didn’t refill the complimentary snacks. ||6) Breakfast is cheap. They only refill a tiny amount of the fish and fruit each time. Every time I went to the fruit bowl, it’s mostly empty. ||7) Cigarette smoke filled the corridor one evening. Probably from Mainland Chinese guests. ||Overall it failed to perform to standards that you would expect for the price and stars.

Fairly disappointed with my stay for the price paid for our rooms. There were spider webs in the dining room and the food was average at best (meat was overcooked). Not the Japanese standard/detail I would expect for a hotel this pricey. Furthermore, the water in the onsen is not hot spring water. I would advise fellow travellers to choose another accommodation where you could get better facilities per price paid.

The room is stunning, but there is nothing to do around and within the hotel. Also< you can’t see firework from this hotel… the firework show is on the other side of the lake The hotel offer shuttle bus, breakfast is included dinner is extra charge. I hope someone could’ve told me OMAKASE was an option.

Away from it all with a view you’d kill for. Clean and quiet. Really quiet. If that’s what you’re after, this is what you’d go for. Outdoor bath is a plus. Just watch out for the hot water. It’s really hot. Breakfast was good enough but the set dinner nothing to shout about. Still would recommend for a short stay to unwind.

Service was AAA+, the hotel had a very nice decoration. We took some very nice photo in the hotel. Room was super spacious and the view of the Lake was incredible. Did not get to enjoy the inhouse onsen as I had some tattoos. But still I had an onsen in the room. Breakfast was delicious.

We had a great stay here, beautiful views, terrific Onsen and a good location away from the towns but not too far away. The set dinners were great, and the staff were friendly and welcoming.

Bad experience. Won’t recommend this hotel. 1. some dry stain on the floor. I thought it may be the pattern of the tiles but it was removable when I wiped it with wet tissue. The area of the stain was big. It was disgusting and really unacceptable!!! I wondered whether the room has been cleaned up comprehensively after the used of previous tenant. I found another dry stain on the table after that. It was really horrible. 2. Few moments later I heard a noise inside the toilet and I found something was broken. It was dangerous and terrible. the above two incidents were horrible and ruined my vacation in Toya. I won’t recommend this hotel to my friends as there are many other choices in Toya with similar budget. I have email the above situation to the hotel but they have no explanations/ response / apology. Please don’t choose this hotel.

Yelp
We booked this hotel per recommendation of Toya travel guide website. The views did not disappoint (and honestly we were afraid it wouldn't clear up, but it did in the morning), but it's very much up to the weather. Service: 10/5 without their shuttle service that was available last minute, we would have been stranded. Silly me thought it would be pretty easy to get around from Niseko to Toya. Do not take multiple buses to Toyamizuekinomae in the winter, there's not much of a walkway, and in the winter the snow is so difficult to get luggage through. Even though it takes longer definitely take the JR which is more consistent than the buses. We were almost stranded for 3 hours but decided to take the bus to the JR stop instead, which added 4 hours to the overall transport, but the hotel was able to pick us up from there. Location: 3/5 there's nothing in the area really, so get any shopping done for food or snacks or souvenirs at the JR station Food: 3/5 typically at Japanese ryokan there is a traditional all you can eat included for dinner at places where it's far from everything else. Definitely my fault for not researching that and making the assumption but their food options were less than ideal or economical (not included even with the price) and not traditional. All the staff other than the bartender seemed to be Korean or Chinese. Breakfast was the worst we had during the entire trip. Onsen: 5/5 in-room and public onsen have an amazing unobstructed view of the lake! This would be the reason to visit this hotel, if all else (food & location/extra transport time) is ok with you.

Yelp
I will rate this new hotel which opened in Nov. '18 based on its chic modern design by a famous Japanese architect, Mr. Kuma Kengo and the friendly staff and management who are all very eager to make your stay as pleasant as they can. Our room was beautiful with top of the line amenities. The bar and dining room and other common spaces are fit for a showroom or museum. Our cocktails before dinner were well made by a young local gentleman from Asahikawa-Shi. The dinner was delicious, we didn't see a menu but were given 3 options. A French style set menu, a steak and a fish option. We had the steak and the fish which were prepared perfectly and plated very much in a French style and portions. The spa is still under construction but each room has its own soaking tub on the balcony with wonderful lake views. The General Manager Rogier, is very friendly, informative and runs the hotel beautifully. He showed me photos of the spa/Onsen which is in the near final stages of being built out and it is magnificent looking and will have the same incredible lake views that the rooms have. I have no doubt this hotel will live up to its 5 star rating I have given in the years to come as it finishes developing and growing.

Yelp
I'm very impressed by the service and concepts of this hotel. There are 55 rooms without much noise or tourists even though the hotel is at the famous Lake Toya! I like that it is not located on the Onsen street. That makes this hotel a relaxing, unique, and real vacation place! The products provided by the hotel are very nice and good quality. As for the food, each bite I tasted the care and exquisiteness! I love the homemade strawberry jam with yogurt made from Hokkaidō milk. Although this newly opened hotel is still on its way to advance, I hope the great traits can remain!
