The 7 Best Hostels in Lisbon (Updated 2025)

"The staff are fantastic and often surprise you with free wine (and sometimes pack snacks or sandwiches), and I enjoyed sitting in the lounge sipping port with views over São Jorge Castle; the hostel is conveniently located in Baixa next to the busy squares of Praça da Figueira and Rossio, and Pedro, the owner, has a restaurant next door — the spacious private rooms are great for couples or families." - Matthew Kepnes

I had a wonderful stay at this hostel! The experience was truly excellent from start to finish. The staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome — always friendly, helpful, and professional. The service was top-notch, and it really made a difference during my stay. The facilities were also outstanding: clean, modern, and very comfortable. Everything was well-maintained, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great stay — I’ll definitely be coming back!

First of all- the staff was INCREDIBLE. They were all so kind and really gave us the down low on where to go and what to do. At the risk of sounding like a lazy American though, these stairs are kinda brutal after a long day of hiking around Lisbon. Not only that, but the common spaces were really lacking compared to other hostels I’ve stayed at. The bathrooms weren’t very clean and there is no AC (which I know isn’t uncommon). The rooms were more stuffy and small, but they did provide fans on request that helped A TON and made it bearable. There are mutual events with the “We Hate F*cking Tourists” hostel (which I think is their sister hostel) and if I could travel back in time I’d stay there. Their residents had AC, way less stairs, and better common spaces (so I’ve been told). If your primary concern is location though it is very central and walkable to most attractions. Again, I feel like if anything made this place worth it, it was 100% the staff (and there’s a pretty cool view of the castle). I made a mistake with our reservation and the staff fixed it in a super timely manner and brought us some really good iced tea in the meantime.

Perfect, thanks for the extra detail. Based on everything you've shared, here's a balanced 3-star review you could use: The location of We Love Fcking Tourists* was excellent—central and convenient for exploring Lisbon. The vibe was friendly and relaxed, and the staff were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. A nice touch was the free coffee available from the downstairs coffee shop. Rooms were spacious and clean, with beds freshened up between nights. Bathrooms were also well maintained. However, the pillows were very poor and there were no handles on the bunk beds, which made getting up and down a bit awkward and unsafe. The check-in process was overly complicated and could definitely be streamlined. There was also a strong focus on upselling social events as soon as we arrived, which felt a bit pushy. Renting a towel with shampoo cost €7.50 which is extortionately expensive. We had to specifically ask to get the shampoo that was supposed to be included. We didn’t use the common areas, but they looked well kept and comfortable. Overall, it’s a decent option for sociable travelers who value location and friendly staff, but there are a few issues that held the experience back from being great.

WE LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!! By far the friendliest, most welcoming hostel we’ve ever stayed at. On arrival they brought us iced tea, and offered to sit with us to tell us more about the city (Lisbon) and the best spots to see!!! Seriously all the staff were amazing, carrying our heavy bag up 4 flight of stairs, always asking if we needed anything and down to answer any questions! Shoutout to employees Mary (who surprised us with chocolate cake one night to congratulate my pregnancy) and Julie (who wrote us up some travel ideas for our Madeira trip!). Would STRONGLY recommend this hostel to everyone!

One of the best hostels in the world! Everyone really made me feel at home. The location is very central, 2min from the metro or just 5min to the river coast. It was easy to go walking everywhere (the team gives great advice on the city!). The Tapas & Fado evening is a must to meet others and get a taste of the Portuguese culture.

I've stayed at some fancy hotels (and some not so fancy hostels) and this was by far, my favorite experience. When I landed late at night, I was greeted by the guy at the reception who made me Bread and Toast...which has never ever happened in any place I've stayed at before. Then, they brought me to cleanest and most comfortable room I've ever stayed in.

The pictures on the site are just a deceiving lie to get you book the room. Once there you get a tour of a nice common space and a nice story. They do not show you the rooms until you pay. After you are presented the rooms... small stinky with a toilet in the room that smells like sewage and fecalls... that is a feature it seems to have a bed in a toilet. Then when asked for a refund i was denied. I was forced to seek another hotel at 22 hours in the night. The good part is there were plenty right there in the center at half of the huge price. Not sure how their scam still works and hot the health department had yet nothing to say.

Possibly my best hostel experience ever. The employees are the nicest people, everything was super clean, and such a great location. Everyone was very friendly and the hostel events were pretty fun. I recommend the Sintra tour and our tour guide Tibor was amazing.
