This is the best Wegman's out of all the Wegman's in Buffalo. Why? Best selection out of all of them. Out of three Wegman's that I checked, this is the only one that had baby artichokes. Let me tell you, I've had a calling for baby artichokes and I checked my local stores first like a good Samaritan (Lexington Coop, Guercio's) before reverting to the Wegman's in Black Rock. Nope, they didn't have it! Then, I called a number of other stores and this was the only one that had that happily in stock. Driving twenty minutes to get these baby artichokes will hopefully turn out to be worth it, but I won't know until I cook my specialty baby artichoke pistachio with quinoa dish. Yum!
Aside from the best selection of groceries, as someone else mentioned they also do prepared food really well. Come here for lunch or dinner, it will be a little pricey at $7.99/lb, but totally worth it. The ethnic foods they cook are amazing from Indian to Chinese; all perfectly spiced. Are Wegman's chefs all amazing ethnic cooking chef's? Seriously, we've had some awesome restaurants pop up from ex-Wegman's chef's (Sun anyone?). This must be where their culinary awesomeness is cemented, or at least I like to think.
Wegman's also has some community-centered events, such as free movie nights or even live music. At a grocery store? Unheard of, but awesome. Admittedly, I've never reverted to a grocery store outing as my Friday night go-to-pick, but when I have kids..who knows? "Honey, let's go out to Wegman's for the night!" =\
