On the Grid : Weinschenke

"Consider'Weinschenke' one of the best choices you can make, if you crave for a good one. The restaurant offers a big range of selected burgers, salads and home-made fries (there is also a very good vegetarian and vegan choice), along with tasty sauces and good wine. As the place is very popular you should reserve a table, otherwise you might have to wait until there is something free." - Catherine Hazotte

Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting a restaurant that serves some of the finest burgers I’ve ever tasted. From the very first bite, it was clear that this place takes their craft seriously. The patty was juicy, perfectly seasoned, and grilled to perfection—crispy on the outside yet tender and flavorful inside. The bun was fresh, soft, and lightly toasted, adding a subtle crunch that complemented the patty wonderfully. Topped with fresh lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and a generous slice of melted cheese, each layer brought its unique flavor, creating a harmonious blend in every bite. What truly stood out was the signature sauce—rich, tangy, and slightly smoky. It elevated the burger to a whole new level, making it an unforgettable experience. The side of crispy, golden fries and the refreshing house-made lemonade completed the meal beautifully. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy yet modern, with attentive staff who ensured a delightful dining experience. Whether you're a burger enthusiast or just someone looking for a satisfying meal, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommended for anyone craving a delicious, hearty burger!

Disappointing shrinkflation. Used to get the beyond meat burger weekly when I lived near the old 1070 location. It was better than their burgers...big, thick, flavorful. Now a barely there, tasteless calorieless nothing for 17 eur. 👎 👎 Update: I went weekly in '21/22 to the 1070 location and the patties were NOT what I was served now. I would have gone back still for a regular burger, but I guess I will find an alternative in the neighborhood.

Truly remarkable. I’m so glad we made the decision to dine here. The burgers were phenomenal; the perfectly fluffy buns worked beautifully with the smoky and flavourful patty.

Trendy venue with friendly service. I went for the double cheeseburger which was €9.90. The dijonaise was a bit overpowering for me giving the burger a horseradishy aftertaste. Lots of great drink options. I’d recommend this over Rinderwahn.

Google
Huge, delicious, and organic grass fed burgers. Other options are also on the menu, but I had the burger, which was so good and juicy. They make their own sauces. We tried their home made “curry ketchup” which tasted fantastic. We kept asking for more - best thing ever! Definitely coming back when in Vienna next time.

Random Sunday evening stop at this friendly hamburger restaurant with delicious food (homemade ketchup and flavored mayos, lemonade with REAL lemon juice!), kindest staff and in general, a cool place to discover in this neighborhood!

Yelp
I visited Weinschenke more than once in my two weeks in Vienna. The burgers were out of this world, having interesting combinations that you just have to try for yourself. The accompanying chips were my favorite part of the experience, being crunchy yet gooey, and filled with flavor. They had interesting dip options as well. I ended favoring the lime aioli. Will have to go again next time I'm in the city!

Yelp
I have no interest in going around Vienna and eating hamburgers. (Hey if it were Philly cheesesteaks or hoagies being served up - maybe!) But if I were ever meeting up with someone to grab a burger, my choice of restaurants would almost certainly be Weinschenke. There is a Weinschenke in the Karmeliter Markt in the Lepoldstadt, but the one I always go to is the main branch right near me in Margareten - on the Franzensgasse. Not only are the regular hamburgers good here, they also have veggie burgers which I really like. Personally I like the vegan burger more than the veggie burger. For starters the tasty seitan patty holds together better when eaten. Both are served on polenta rolls with Erdäpfel chips from the Lobaul. And if you think burgers - beef or veggie - only go with beer, think again. Weinschenke lives up to its name and has a worthy wine selection. The Weinschenke in the 5th District is very popular so be prepared to share a table. It's all part of the atmosphere. Tip: There are a couple of outdoor tables which are great for wine sipping and people watching!

Yelp
What a cool place. Not over crowded and a garden coming soon. Burgers delicious and try the WaldKerl Burger and order the side of Mole - a chocolate and chilli sauce. If u like spicy this is the one Burger and side to choose.

Yelp
No way you are spending less than 12 Euros for just a burger. Have to say I took a simple one, and I considered it simple. Not sure why in Vienna generally the meat paddy is thin, vs nice plump and juicy especially for the prices. My friends took fancier burgers and were not too impressed either. Again, small meat paddies. You have options to get "chips" or salad as additional sides (seperate price). The salad looked nothing special. However the chips seemed to be made fresh, and nice thick potato wedges not too soaked in oil. Other than that if you sit inside (no available seats outside on that day), it does smell heavily of oil so you are going to smell of this when you work out. Also, you will definitely not see your burger for at least 25 minutes, which is a bit odd considering that they really only offer burgers, and there was not 100 people in the place. Overall, if you want a thick burger, make it at home, go to Charlie P's or Flaschers (restaurant, not bistro).

Yelp
Good burger - amazing home made chips. Stuff completely overwhelmed and slow even though there are not many tables to serve. Even worse, they allow smoking after 9pm and the waitress was extremely rude after asking about it; consequently, we paid and went somewhere else.

Yelp
Very good burgers, fries, and sauces (including veggie burgers). Good beer. Get's very crowded and very loud and turns into a club around 9ish. You need a reservation and they will tell you an end-time for the reservation. Really small bathroom.

Yelp
So far, best vegan burger in town. Self made seitan.
