'Outer Banks' Film Locations You Can Visit in Real Life

"Perhaps the most fantastical scene of the series is in the 'city of gold,' El Dorado. In the Season 3 finale, viewers see John B, Big John, and the Pogues enter a cave and wind up immersed in a metallic world. Those cave and jungle scenes were filmed at Welchman Hall Gully in Barbados (not Venezuela, as the show suggests), and while much of the aesthetic from the show was computer-generated, the real caves and natural surroundings are still beautiful as ever." - Travel + Leisure Editors

"Tours of this rain forest gully, three quarters of a mile long and home to numerous exotic and tropical plants, are available daily. The gully also features wild monkeys who swing from vines connecting the gully’s trees. Visitors can watch the monkeys feed on a specially built platform."

Monkeys not guaranteed. They say feeding between 10:30 and 12:00 but they haven’t been around for a bit. However after talking to the staff they went off to find them and encourage them down as the troop is fairly young they’re nervous of humans. If your into millipedes, snails, slugs and a couple of scrawny chickens then this is the place for you. A nice walk through the gully but not much else.

100% best nature walks, self guided path, no shortage of beautiful trees and if you are blessed you will see monkeys. They have specific feeding times, so call to confirm, after lunch time, you may see them chilling and playing.

Any opportunity to see a monkey, is an opportunity I will take! Luckily we were blessed with a fantastic series of monkey interactions here in Welchman Hall Gully! Our first experience was about 10 minutes in as the monkeys were walking down from the back of the gully towards the entrance. This was around 12:00 PM. We just sat enjoying the monkeys as they passed by. Afterwards we proceeded to walk through the entire park area. The environment is unique and interesting. We found an area where the cave roof had collapsed which we enjoyed to see. On the way back we got to the visitors center and the women at the front told us to come to the back because she was gonna feed the monkeys. That was the best part of the experience. It was so amazing seeing the monkeys tear through bananas! That was around 1:00PM. We were some of the only people there for about an hour and a half. Often times it was just us with the monkeys.

If you're a local... don't skip this. If you're a visitor, don't skip it! Such a wonderful experience. We were initially going to just walk through on our own but ended up meeting tour guide Asan, I've never had a better tour in my life. It was educational, indept and beautiful. He was teacher, photographer and guide. Book with him. I learnt names of trees, vines and fruits.

This place is absolutely stunning. You can visit it by yourself but if you want to understand what you're looking at, I strongly recommend you join the free guide at 10:30 (might change in the future so check with them what time it is). You can get some drinks and snacks from the ticket office. If you're lucky, you'll even get to see some monkeys. It's a splendid place and would strongly recommend spending some time here while in Barbados.

Interesting garden with a path to follow, we did not see the monkeys as they are easier to be seen when they are fed. If you want to take a break from the crowd and the beach, this is really the right place.

This was a wonderful family activity. Welchman Hall Gully is a beautiful, peaceful sanctuary. We saw the monkeys and fed the chickens and enjoyed the opportunity to see the evidence of the cave structures and the gorgeous plants. There is a lovely paved walkway and plenty of places to sit and rest along the path.

Welchman Hall Gully is a wonderful place for a scenic hike and to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature. It’s peaceful, educational, and perfect for exploring at your own pace. The gully was once part of a large limestone cave that collapsed, creating the lush tropical ravine you see today. Keep an eye out for the Green Monkeys, they’re absolutely adorable and often spotted playfully moving through the trees. A visit here offers a perfect mix of relaxation and discovery.
