The food is amazing while the portions are very generous. The staff are polite yet friendly. The entire establishment is spotlessly clean, including the designated smoking areas. Only a short walk from everything and there are bus stops on the same street.

We eat regularly, on Wednesday night in particular. Very friendly staff, steaks $10 off on a Wed night. Specials on other nights. Our favourite pizza place too. Can order pizza to take away. Delicious, but we always need to take half home. Worth a try anytime, especially winter as there's always a welcoming fire.

The staff shows outstanding customer service and feel like your were being welcome. If you get a room near busy intersection you won't get much sleep because noise. I had a small fridge near the bed and it wasn't quite.

Pool table review. So, you know, this probably doesn't concern anyone actually reading this. I have never, ever, been in a place where three tables do not have the correct balls. It's like maybe the room has the right number of balls between the five tables, but on any one individual table, good luck. By the way, this is not a one-off. They have a box of balls at the ready to replace any balls you might be missing. Staff were lovely though :)

Just a cheap room nothing special at all, until I i went downstairs and found 6 pool tables, arcade games, air hockey table,.. and a giant 6 track slot car set with a bar right next it!! And then happy hour was on almost the whole time I was there because of some football game. Ahhaahahh. We ended up staying in the the hotel playing games and drinking beer the whole time instead of going out anywhere lol. Food was really good too. Staff really friendly.

We stayed here for just the one night after our flight got cancelled from Hobart airport. We had a great experience with the friendliest of staff. We spoke with Tom on the phone to make the last minute booking and when we arrived he was very helpful and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Room was clean, comfortable and wasn't noisy. The bar area seemed sociable but due to the early morning flight we were unable to experience this aspect. Well done Tom and the Welcome Stranger!

Shocking hotel ! The rooms are clean but looks like we are in the 17th century... the bottom of the bath was destroyed and the plug was missing. The shower curtain were dirty. The carpet and furniture were 200 years old. The room had an issue of ventilation or something as inside it was 50*C much more hot than outside, which made us sleep very bad. We couldn’t keep sleeping after 6am as the house keepers/other people were noisy from very early and the walls had no soundproofing at all. The included “breakfast” was ridiculous, just composed of a smallish piece of burned bread and a coffee, eventually adding an apple! And happening in the pub room, near the gaming room.. I won’t recommend to anyone to book a night there, we paid $140 per night and it is from far the worth hotel I have ever been in!!! The Welcome Stranger is a nice pub to play pool or have a beer, but should definitively not be an hotel.

have stayed at the welcome stranger on 5 end of season cricket trips and with the family on 3 other occasions owner and staff are brilliant. the only time they were ever rude was if someone was out of line. great bar food as well as the best pizzas going in Hobart. great location for all your day trips. rooms are what you would expect for the price but the beds are as good as the ones at home
