We visited Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa on Valentine’s Day for their dinner buffet. As expected, the price was higher in comparison to other similar hotels but the restaurant was fully packed. The decorations were beautiful and the service was impressive, which gave us a great first impression. This was also our first visit, and we had been considering planning a stay there.
Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. The variety was quite limited and there was hardly anything tempting. Although there was a meat corner with different options, everything tasted very similar and bland. The Chinese section had just one rice, one noodle, and one beef dish, which felt underwhelming for a Valentine’s buffet. Some items, like the cheese, were finished and not refilled promptly.
We also ordered a white sauce penne pasta from the live station, but the pasta was undercooked and the sauce tasted like plain milk. The desserts looked well presented, but the taste did not live up to the appearance at all.
Overall, while the ambiance and service were commendable, the food quality and variety did not meet our expectations for such a special evening.
