We arrived at 4:55pm, a rainy afternoon, in Hanalei, in late October. The place was 25% full. We informed the host and hostess that we were here for cocktails and bites, maybe dinner. We were kindly informed there were no available tables for dinner, but the bar was first come, first served. The room is beautifully appointed and modest, as the view may be one of the most gorgeous views of Nature there is on the planet. Breath-taking, even on a stormy, rainy evening with the sun going down, peeking momentarily through the clouds. A full display of grays and charcoal, in an ever changing dance of light and shadows I had ever witnessed. Most of the bar stools were removed. Two stools were calling us to sit now, and forever hold your peace. We sampled the two options for Mai Tais, in a couple of rounds, and a couple small plates. Outstanding on both accounts. We both took turns to walk out to the terrace to take in the views. Most everyone on the terrace was drop-jawed at the ominous beauty that we were surrounded by and very friendly. The place was full to the brim with in 5-7 minutes. We felt so lucky to have the seats we had on a spontaneous, impromptu urging to go visit, 30 minutes prior. You want dinner? Make reservations. Of course it's going to be expensive. What a treat!
