I loved it here, I went at night time, twice, the first time for the light cycle festive and the second to the space museum, it was nicely displayed, it was easy to walk around, nighttime there were plenty of lights. If you go towards the back it is a lot darker but the front was great. It was so well kept and manicured. The light cycle show was spectacular. The views you can see of the city are great as well

Beautiful garden set on the side of a mountain. The best way to get up to the top is via the cable car and then to walk down through the winding pathways under the huge redwoods and other vegetation. There are also observatories at the top but not all are open to the public. On the way down you can visit the children’s play area, the memorial to Seddon and the cemetery.

Google
I recommend riding the cable car up to the top so you’re at the top of the entrance of the botanical garden and you can walk downhill throughout the garden. It is absolutely free. There’s so many flowers and trees to look at it could take a good couple of hours to explore.

Dog friendly and with so many interesting varieties of roses. Definitely a place to go for ideas of planting roses in our own garden. It also has a very popular cafe that we come every time. Wellington Botanic Garden also hosts a lot of events, such as the Light Cycle show. Strongly recommended as a tourism destination in Wellington.

Lovely botanic gardens very big, the maps where useless so leave plenty of. Time to wander around, lovely scenery and some very impressive sculptures. There is also a nice cafe in the rose garden that can be enjoyed with a nice peaceful view

I didn't have a plan other than there was a specific piece of art I wanted to see here. And as it turned out, it was a real challenge to get from the cable car station to see it. So I did a lot of wandering through the Botanic Garden. Up hills, down hills, through narrow passages, and this all gave me a fabulous self-directed tour. Lots of beautiful trees and flowers. Several artworks. And an enjoyable hour of making sure I could get back to the cable car before it closed.

Google
Cool botanic gardens in Wellington, it is small? (I never have a feeling parks in New Zealand are small) but very well spread. As like parks in New Zealand it is packed with trees and flowers, both native and not native. The views at the top of Obsevstory, so is the top of cable car, are breathtaking, at sunset. I just stumbled upon these spots by chance but yes, it was worth wandering around the garden areas (which may feel unnerving considering how packed the trees are). Here are the pictures:

Very beautiful FREE entry botanical garden. Soooooooooo many variety of colourful flowers & plants around. Multiple different track loop around to try with. Connected to the Wellington top cable car station. Worth a visit to enjoy some fresh air. There are even children playground inside.

Yelp
Looking for an activity to do in the afternoon, we opted to take the cable car up to the botanical gardens. Entry into the gardens is free. We started down the main downtown walk but diverted onto other paths as things caught our eye. I took so many pics. Loved all the colors and interesting vegetation. I think my fav area was the succulent garden. I love the colors and shapes of these plants. We visited in October so the roses were not yet in bloom but I suspect that is a stunning area when in season. I also liked the duck pond. Wish we would have known that you could get duck food in the tree house. We would have treated the ducks (and pigeons as it was clear they knew food might be involved and were following us anyway). Beautiful place to enjoy Wellington. Outstanding views from on top the hill as well.

Yelp
The Wellington Botanic Garden is a little escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, located right in the center of downtown. There are tons of trails to walk, in order to see as much vegetation as possible, as well as ponds and offshoots where you can stop to read about what you're seeing. We stumbled on the Wellington Botanic Garden while we were just wandering around Wellington, so it's not hard to miss at all. Aside from vegetation, plants, and flowers, we also stumbled upon waterfalls, creeks, and small buildings and pavilions. It's over 62 acres of lush plants and trails, so you can spend a full day at the Wellington Botanic Garden. We were only there for a few hours of tranquil walking, but if we go back, we'll explore a lot more!

Yelp
When visiting new cities, I always make time for visiting Botanical Gardens. Wellington's is a wonderful one and well worth the time to visit. I had planned on going one day, but seeing how it was on a hill, I made another trip to come back and explore and was glad I did. The best way to see theses gardens is to take the Wellington Cable Car to the top. Exiting the station to the right is the entrance to the gardens, again at the very top of the mountain so you'll slowly work your way down into the city. There are multiple paths to take, the observatory path has wonderful views of Wellington and the bay. The others wind down; one is a forest walk, another is more of a direct path to the tree house. Toward the bottom you'll find landscaped flowers, then going back up the herb garden. From here you'll work your way to the green house, which has various areas of tropical and swamp plants, so this would be a great place to come on a cold day. There are restrooms sporadically through the gardens, so that shouldn't be a worry. There's also a cafe at the greenhouse. From here you can walk through the historic cemetery and a pedestrian over the highway that takes you right back into the center of the city. This is a must-visit.

Yelp
This is a must do stop in Wellington. The gardens are free, but it is fun to take the cable car up to the top, buy a one way ride and walk down through the gardens, the historic cemetery and into town. In addition to the lovely curated spaces with paved paths such as the succulent garden, rock garden and display garden, there is a duck pond, many grassy areas for picnicking, a lovely sculpture walk and several gravel lined bush walks and areas with views over the city. The Druid hill Listening sculpture is quite fun - step inside and listen to the sounds of the city and forest. The rose garden toward the bottom and the begonia house are beautiful and the Picnic cafe is a must try for brunch or cakes and coffee.

Yelp
Beautiful day for a stroll in the Wellington Botanical Gardens. Check out the Sundial of Human Involvement near the observatory and the rose garden on a sunny summer afternoon.

Yelp
Quality/Quantity - What a nice garden, thank you. And next to a very unique cemetery. There are bridges, a stage for events, and more. Atmosphere - A garden inside an urban city; a nice retreat. 110 rose beds, green house, etc. Playground currently closed under construction. They also host events here, see their website. Service - N/A. Price - Free. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1869.

Yelp
We walked down from the cable car through colorful gardens, the path is well marked & it took :40. The gardens were meticulous, fragrant & colorful. There was a lot to see here and we could've easily spent a day walking through the Lady Norwood Rosegarden, peace garden and waterfall, begonia house, seasonal flowerbeds, fragrant garden, Camellia valley, fernery, rock garden, succulent garden, threatened species, duck pond, magpie lawn, James Hector Pinetum, Remembrance Ridge, the dell, herb garden, rose garden.... The gardens end at the Bolton Street cemetery and Museum across the street from the beehive. The picnic Café serves farm to table locally sourced lunches.

Yelp
While the paths are a little confusing since they branch off in multiple directions without much guidance, we found the botanical gardens. Absolutely beautiful flowers and plants in this free botanical garden. There is an old horse barn that I think is now offices you can see. If you climb to the top where the observatory is, you can see such an amazingly beautiful view of the harbor. It was such a surprise to see!

Yelp
I don't even like gardens but we spent half a day here! It was raining but that meant there were less people so we basically had the entire rose garden to ourselves :) The baby ducks are super friendly, we didn't have any food but they just kept walking up to us because they were curious. There are so many paths and the gardens are huge so I would budget your time wisely. We almost missed our dinner reservation because we were enjoying our time at the gardens so much.

Yelp
We big fans of a walk in da park. In capital city of Wellington nz dat means BOTANICAL GARDENS. 'Wellington on a good day " as the song goes is a beautiful place. Today was the day! It's large, on the hills above Lambton quay, ride up the cable car.....or.. Walk up the Tinakori Road enter through the Founders Gate as we did. Many little Bush walks and nooks crannies, themed gardens within display varied natives and flora from faraway shores. A few elevation changes, but civilized smooth pathways for the most part. Mobility challenged can use a lift up to visitors centre. Play area for kiddies. Cafe in the rose gardens which we'll review separately. Something for everyone. Free entry to the gardens. Our day out was ...... Wellington on GREAT day. Recommended. 4 stars.

Yelp
Pretty place for a walk. Love that you can take the cable car up and then walk down through the gardens.
