We had our work Christmas dinner here, and it was fantastic! The food was delicious—beautifully cooked, well-seasoned, and perfect for a festive celebration. The staff was friendly and attentive, making sure everything ran smoothly for our group. The atmosphere was warm and lively, with just the right balance of holiday cheer. Great selection of drinks!A perfect spot for a special occasion—highly recommend!

Went for brunch recently. Big fan of the location and ambiance. My English breakfast tea was quite nice and service was quick and friendly. I ordered the eggs Benny - it was good but nothing amazing. Slightly disappointed also by the home fries, which were tiny and what I felt to be a smaller portion size. Others seemed to be enjoying mimosas and nice mocktails, which I would have liked to try another time. I’d come back, but I think for drinks only since I wasn’t floored by the food.

Google
Went for dinner here last night & was very impressed. The staff are very friendly and the food & wine are delicious! I had the duck tar tar, chardonnay and fish as well as the sticky toffee pudding. Highly recommend visiting this place! Such a cute locally owned restaurant & one of my favourites here in Ottawa! Prices are a bit high but it's worth every penny!

Excellent dinner out with family. Courteous and warm service, and the food was great. Steak frites pictured here. Would definitely return.

Dawson as a server and Mike in the kitchen are better than Batman and Robin. These two were a dynamic duo that made our lunch visit an unforgettable experience. Bottomless water to stay hydrated, first class carbonara pasta and hand crafted pizza with a special twist - which is a Pinsa Romana flour base. Stop by here the next time you’re in Ottawa or the west end.

Overall nice brunch. Went for brunch with my pals – we had avocado toast and burger, plus mimosa. For brunch it was barely anyone, so if you want to chat and not have many people around - that’s the place to go. Mimosa was not up to my liking, I prefer more bubbles and freshly pressed orange juice.

Google
My friends and I had a branch in Wellington Gastropub last weekend. The place was barely occupied with hangry people. The food was okay. Avo sandwiches not their forte for sure. There is no alcohol detected in my mimosa. So I see a lot of space for improvement. Everything was regular except customer service.

Google
Service was great but it did take a while for the main courses to be served - although it was eventually prepared to impeccable standard which definitely made up for the long wait. Fries and bread at the start are a must - for main courses I’ve had their vegetarian risotto and chicken; I would definitely recommend the chicken!

Yelp
Mediocre to weak, this pretentious overpriced restaurant is not worth the money, and thinks its better then it is. Other people at my table said they were dissatisfied. Their tipping suggestion starts at 18%, yet I would not say the service was above average, perhaps in the bottom 50%. Their prices are ridiculous and the quality does not match. I would not return here.

Yelp
This was a visit on a bitter cold day which could be bad thing depending upon where you are seated and if you need to make trips to the washrooms. I wasn't expecting this kinda setup as its a converted home from the looks of it. Not very accessible IMO as small steps and washrooms downstairs which due to being next to a fire exit the walk there was constant freezing breeze. First things kudos on a great beer list. I am not a fan of craft beers and appreciate when I see Belgian Beers on a menu. Good Stuff Here is a play by play Curdo hmm very bland and the texture had turned mushy. Beet salad was decent lots of ingredients that somehow went well together. Short Rib was OK. Now it doesn't take much to make this dish great. I enjoyed the sides more as found the meat to be dryer than it ought to be. Surprised as its hard to do that with short rib IMO. My fellow dinning companions enjoyed their main with the shrimp pasta getting a big thumbs up. Now for the service oh boy was it slow we are talking 30-45 min to get the apps with another 30 min to get the mains. I would give a half star bump for the beer selection so 3.5 stars all said and done.

Yelp
I took my partner here for dinner, and it was one of his favourite spots in Ottawa. It has a really relax environment and does not have the pretentious sort of overprice dining experience that one might find at other upscale restaurants in the Ottawa area. It has a great selection of alcohol beverages as any pub shed, and it has a variety of beer, wine, cocktails that we're all delicious . The food is truly exceptional at this location. My partner got to be short ribs and states that it was one of his favorites, even when comparing to other locations that are known for their beef short ribs. It would definitely be a must try and it is something that they are well known for. The beef tartare I had as a main entrée, and it was still quite filling with lots of fresh made pita chips and sweet potato chips that were thin and crunchy and we're perfect compliments to food. The only downside of that item is that it is very forward in terms of the flavour profile of pickled flavours and mustard, so if you don't enjoy that I would skip it. Very easy to get a reservation at sitting on the weekend and I have a staff to be extremely enjoyable and some of the best service I've received in the city

Yelp
The service was lovely, and the ambience (in a historic building) was nice. My drink ($17) was simple, and served short in the glass, even when filled with ice. I wavered in my food choices, and went with the server-recommended chicken sandwich. I found it greasy, and the accompanying fries were undercooked and chewy. The burger was more successful, with housemade pickles and bacon jam, and the French onion soup special was flavourful. Again, like the cocktail, it was served in a bowl too big for the serving, making the restaurant's portioning look stingy. Nice neighborhood, good service...would try somewhere else for an $86 brunch.

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet! My husband took me here for our first date 8 years ago and we try to come back here every year. Each time it never disappoints. It's not a large restaurant, so I highly recommend making reservations. The staff has always been super nice and friendly and the food is always amazing. We always start off our meal with a beef tartare. My husband generally gets the scallop dish and I either opt for a vegetarian dish or chicken dish. This year I decided to get their mushroom risotto. It was delicious. Everything was delicious. I highly recommend a visit! We'll be back next year!

Brent M.

Yelp
Used to be good. Not anymore. Prices have doubled, portions have shrunk. Had to eat after I came home, because the beef "shortribs" were one rib per person! Onion soup almost as good as I make, except I would remove all the onion skin, not leave it in the soup, as they did...really amateur work. For $40 I get 30 grams of meat, 50 grams of mashed potatoes, and 2 green onions they couldn't even be bothered to cut the roots off of. Could they throw in a couple carrots or something? Apparently not. They want you to buy their super expensive side dishes as extras. $16 for some cabbage! This is poorly prepared food with abusive pricing. No regard for the customer having any taste or intelligence. The business may be failing. It should be. They are demanding far too much tolerance from their customers. Been there a dozen times. Loved it before. They're not what they used to be. Stay away. Now I'll go back to filling up on Kraft dinner. Who knew you wouldn't be able to fill up on a $40 main dish and a soup?

Dawn M.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, good staff. But what you really go for is the food. Went for a weekday lunch - this is a timeframe where you may actually be able to get in without a reservation - and it was delicious. Not a lot of point dwelling on what we ate, as the menu changes from day to day. (Wow! that's a lot of work to switch a menu daily - and do it so well.) Helpful hints: 1) make a reservation unless you're willing to go at an off time 2) 2nd floor - don't go if you can't do stairs. (We didn't see any signs of an elevator.) 3) Don't go with any expectations - for example "I feel like steak"... yeah.. you never know what's going to be on the menu ... be open to trying something different, or skip this place if you aren't a foodie. Would I recommend: Yes Would I return: Yes

Yelp
I have enjoyed over a dozen meals at the Wellington Gastropub since they opened. My most recent experiences have prompted me to reconsider their position in the annals of go-to gastro food. ...This is not about service, nor ambiance - they are excellent on both counts. Note - the dining room is noisy, so expect to be raising your voice if you wish to be heard across the table. Nonetheless, the serving staff are courteous and well informed, and the atmosphere convivial. They have three stars, because the quality of the fare has dropped. While the menu choices remain creative and feature local ingredients, my last two meals left us with a solid "meh". Our group of six ordered a range of appetizers and mains including scallops, duck, schnitzel, and forest mushrooms. We have had better fare at chains like Milestones and the Keg. Our schnitzel was oily, the scallop broth an over-salted miso, and the mushroom uninspired. This is now a repeat experience. For the money, consider many of the other exciting options in this part of Wellington West. Aron

Yelp
We love this place so so much. Discovered it in 2013 when we brought our son up for university and have visited 3 times a year ever since when visiting. Terrific service. Great drinks and beer. Food is extraordinary, creative and always hits the mark. If they have scallops on menu, get them and save room for dessert.

Hannah Y.

Yelp
Food was tasty though the flavours were muted for some dishes. That may have been the intention. The amount in the entrees were just right for one person. We got the take home ice cream (white chocolate-cashew) and it was amazing. Just enough cashews in the ice cream. The staff was friendly and made you feel comfortable.

Jeffrey M.

Yelp
A superb pub. Food is varied and superior - duck, fish, steak, fine soup, wonderful salad variety, scallops and more. The service is excellent. The young, predominantly male servers (the night we were there, anyway) are professional. Noise level is a little high, but average for a pub. Fun ambience. Great beer selection - canned, imported and a long list of Ontario micros. A wee bit light on the wine choices. Two of the folks we were with were a bit older and the flight of stairs it is necessary to climb up to get to the tables was a bit of a turn-off for them. However, 14 steps later, they happily sat, caught their breath, and greatly enjoyed the fare. Desserts are many and of high quality. I highly recommend this restaurant. I will return, definitely. Give it a try. There is plenty for everyone.

Mel C.

Yelp
Verdict: Only came for bevies, but the atmosphere was great, and the service was awesome As the verdict states, only stopped by here for a quick nightcap after a dinner elsewhere, and was impressed with he location, the ambiance, and the service. The server was very knowledgeable about the wine list, and checked back a number of times to ensure all was well. Would certainly come back here.

Yelp
I have braved some indignities at the border crossing. Some of them self-imposed. Like the time I didn't realize that "Last Exit in the USA" meant that I'd soon be crossing a border. And I didn't have my passport or any desire to visit Canada that night. That little episode culminated in a detailed search of my car, its possessions, and in particular, my now-wife's personal cosmetic effects. Other times, the crossing felt like the interrogation room on "The First 48," and I wasn't exactly sure why. Perhaps it's inconceivable that anyone with a Delaware license would visit Canada for leisure with plans to spend money there? Inconceivable that a man in a long-distance relationship might live apart from his girlfriend? Are these things even relevant? Anyway, I'd take the five worst border experiences of my life and relive them in succession if that's what it took to revisit Wellington Gastropub. It's possible that my taste buds have been deadened by months of cooking for myself. But I happen to think that WG is one of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time. I think the "local" buzzword is sometimes overvalued in environmental terms (is it really better for the world if I drink a small batch beer from rural Ontario than a Yuengling?). But I can't argue with the taste results. It's not of much use to relate or recommend the dishes I enjoyed since the menu seems to change every 24 hours. But any iteration of a beet salad, with or without endives, with or without granola(!), promises to be delicious. Based on our meal, I'd recommend any seafood entree without reservation. Both scallops and sockeye were cooked delicately and, well, perfectly. I don't even like salmon that much, so it's a mystery to me that I ordered sockeye. Then again, I am the sort of person who will leave my native country by accident. But for all that, the fish flaked perfectly without being mushy. And it was rich without being cloying or overpowering. The staff was really terrific. For some reason I decided to email this restaurant at 2AM to see if they could accommodate me the coming Saturday. Most people call, I know. Anyway, the owner emailed me back by noon the following day to tell me it was taken care of. Then, at dinner, he came over and assured me that my sociopathic aversion to the telephone was "lovely."

Yelp
I dined here to celebrate my father's birthday. I like this place. We all ordered "firsts" and "seconds" and I ordered a "third" (desert) to share. The appetizers (firsts) were very good. Mine was a raw tuna with gazpacho. The cooks know how to combine the vegetables and herbs to make a fresh tasting dish. They serve savoury cornbread instead of bread before the appetizers. They're good. The mains (second) was a normal size serving. I took the BC coho. Even though there wasn't a starch with the dish, it was more filling than it looked. My brother, the vegetarian, needed a modified dish. It was a kale rizotto. I tried it and it was nothing like what I had, unfortunately... So don't eat here if you're vegetarian. We waited quite a while after the mains were done and the empty dishes lay still before us. We waited again to order dessert, which was good once it arrived. When came time to pay the bill, I was left to deal with the keypad and all the receipts it spews out since our waiter disappeared and the owner left me with the machine to punch in tip at my table. I'm pretty sure we could have taken French leave without being caught. The staff, as friendly as they are, tend to forget about you once your main dish has been served. If I were to go back it would be for appetizers only.

Yelp
This is a 3.5. 'Had reservations at the Wellington for a birthday dinner last week. The first thing I noticed was that the vibe was a lot more relaxed than I was used to from establishments with similar pricing ($24-31 entrees). No big deal. Right? I'm a relaxed kind of person. We were presented with the option to get a flight of 6 draft beers. There were 12 options to choose from, or so we thought. The waitress informs us that there are actually only 2 menus to choose from. Flight A and Flight B, no mixing and matching because the "bartender would freak out." Ok, that's fine that you have two set menus but there is a more professional way to present that to customers. There was one noteworthy beer in the flight we decided on. It was actually brewed at the Wellington! It was called the "Stock Pot - Big PAPA (peach and apricot)." It was hoppy, citrusy, full, and absolutely amazing. However, apparently the Wellington's Stock Pot beers are "nano-brewed" which means only 100 litres is made at a time. Damn, I would have gone back for that time and time again! The complimentary bread and butter was actually complimentary bread as olive oil. The bread was tasty (Art is In bakery, of course) but the olive oil without any balsamic was a bit weird to me. We both ordered the same appetizer and main. For appetizer - the shrimp. They came in a puffy batter, not unlike popcorn shrimp. The batter was savory and good, but the shrimp were extremely overlooked and chewy. The dipping sauce had raw green onion in it and the taste was very abrasive. For main - the halibut. What arrived was not at all the same as what was on the menu. The menu mentioned a bacon dashi (broth) and kimchi dumplings. Our plates had mashed potatoes, shallot rings, capers, and grape tomatoes. No broth or dumplings to be found. The couple at the table to our right were confused about their plate as well. We didn't ask about it because the food was quite good regardless. The desert was meh, but it's difficult to do a great desert. Everything wasn't bad, overall... The food wasn't gross. The service wasn't bad. I just have come to expect more when we drop $160 on a three course meal and drinks for two. And I'm more likely to drop that money elsewhere next time.

Yelp
I will definitely be back to the Wellington Gastropub. Stopped in here on a Wednesday night around 9 or 10 after I had to leave a VERY hot and stuffy Agave Grill (open a window! shell out for A/C!). First impression was that the place is fairly beautiful on the inside, in a pub kind of way. Clear that the staff keeps the place spic and span. Pretty good set up, despite the fact that when you sit at the bar, the stairway is behind you and it gives you a sense like you might fall backward out the door of the restaurant (or that could have just been me.) Rumor has it that this place gets packed, but my husband and I were just there later on for drinks and maybe a snack to share, and there were other people there, but nothing too busy. I tried to order a cocktail, but there was no cocktail menu. The incredibly helpful, friendly bartender asked me what kind of drink I was looking for and, unprompted, offered me three beer samples to see if I were interested in anything they had on tap that corresponded to my tastes. I still can't believe I didn't get his name, but he was amazing, finding out I was from new to the city from Boston and trying to help me navigate other places in the area I might like. (Promoting the competition!) We both had very tasty, albeit on the pricey side ($7, I think), beers, but the chorizo-stuffed dates are really what had my husband raving. Dates! Who knew? Incredible. Sure it's a bit pricey, but not ridiculously so. And I'm more than willing to pay a little extra for a nice atmosphere and great service. I'm excited to get back here and try out the dinner menu and really pretty looking dining area. I do wish, however, that the place was open more bar hours, at least til midnight or 1, because it seems like a nice place to swing by on the way home and grab a beer.

Yelp
A few things you should know about the Wellington Gastro Pub: The menu changes every day. Really! This means that you can visit this remarkable restaurant multiple times in a month, and never encounter the same dishes. (Note: There can be pluses and minuses to this. If you become attached to a certain dish, well... you may not see it again.) The food on which the menu is based is local and seasonal. I ate at the Wellington four times this past fall, and each time was different and remarkable. I never had a bad dish. The desserts are superb and feature Pascal's ice cream. The ambiance in the Wellington is terrific. Cozy, with a tin ceiling and great music (sometimes Radiohead) on the sound system. The Wellington feels hip, charming and welcoming all at once. Service is excellent, knowledgeable, and down to earth. If you're in Ottawa, stop by the Wellington Gastropub! You're guaranteed a memorable and tasty meal.

Monu A.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I came to this establishment to celebrate her new promotion at work. They did nothing for us as far as celebrations although we're partially responsible because we didn't tell them We were celebrating anything. James was our server, he was polite, courteous, and very thoughtful when it came to making wine selection suggestions. However an interesting point, I asked for the bill but they place the bill in front of my girlfriend, who subsequently paid, excellent ! My girlfriend Tiffany and I would both like to recommend this place

Randy D.

Yelp
BEYOND AMAZING!New menu daily is posted in advance on their website. Personally, I love the low key fine dining experience, very relaxing. These guys pay attention to details without acting all snooty (yup I went there!) Beers ? High quality and locally(ish) produced. Selection rotates regularly. Wine : These guys know wine, don't let the tats and relaxed dress fool ya! Food : OUT OF THIS WORLD! fresh, creative, well executed and most importantly VERY TASTY! I go as often as I can (I live out of town) I think this is "the" best restaurant in Ottawa. Essentially Beckta without the home equity loan and the snoot (o.k. that one was gratuitous) For prices (im a glutton so not a good judge ;) ) check out their website, it's a steal as far as im concerned..

Christian L.

Yelp
Good restaurant with good service. It is hard to describe the restaurant and its feel. Cozy is the word that come to mind. A good place to try! Last time I went, i found the menu a little short. I found these restaurants in Ottawa to be overpriced for what you get.

Nandan F.

Yelp
I went here for dinner just before the holidays. They have street parking in front and on a side street. Reservations are recommended. The place is cosy with dim lights and really good music. The ambiance is welcoming and the service is nothing but impressive. They have a really good wine and beer list including microbrews from the area. I was actually quite excited and happy to see an extensive wine list. They have a 3 course dinner that changes daily. The fresh bread from a local bakery nearby with the dips was really good and paired well with the wine. I selected the beef tartar for apps and it was simply delicious. The pork chop was cooked perfectly and the fudge desert was a perfect finish. Highly recommended and I personally can't wait to go back again.

Janet N.

Yelp
The atmosphere is cool, the beer and wine selection is great, the menu is constantly changing and the food is outstanding. Everything good that you've heard about the Wellington Gastropub is true. The only thing that could have been improved on our visit was that our server was a bit abrupt when it came to ordering beer - though he did know his stuff. Since the menu is always changing and everything was good I won't get too into our meals, but I will say that the boyfriend's steak tartare was tied for the best tartare I've ever had anywhere (with the horse tartare at The Black Hoof in Toronto) and my duck on kimchi fried rice with scallion vinaigrette was one of the best and most imaginative flavour combinations I've ever experienced. They have a room downstairs ("The White Room") that's private for groups. Reservations seem like a must no matter what group size or time you'd like to go, at least on weekends. They are closed on Sunday, which is sad. You can get really outstanding meals in Ottawa at prices lower than what you'll pay here, but the food here really does step it up. I wish I could afford to make this a regular haunt for us but it will have to remain for special occasions.

Stephen H.

Yelp
Doesn't justify its extraordinarily high average rating. Our food was just ok -- our fritters were served on a badly burnt bun, my scallops were more charred than seared, and the flavors were reasonably tasty but not exceptional. Not bad, just not as good as the ratings here imply.

Libby R.

Yelp
Love love love. We have been several times, always getting great food and exceptional service! It's a great date night restaurant, or for a ladies night out. It's not the cheapest place you'll find (although I still find it a great bargain compared to some of the other fine dining option), but I'm completely happy to pay for the quality I get!

Sonam R.

Yelp
I took in this place on a snowy winter night with a group of five others. Found on the second floor of a building in Westboro, it's a warm and inviting dimly lit pub. The beer menu is craft and full of local options. Extensive list of wine options too for winos. The chef in-house does good work. There's a different menu every day, so you never know what's coming your way. I had some beignets to start, a delicious angus striploin (med) and the most yummy decadent dessert, dark chocolate terrine. The marshmallows were over the top awesome, graham crumble and salted caramel sauce was in it to win it. Think fancy s'more. Our waiter was über attentive, patient and knowledgeable. This meal was beyond tasty, and the atmosphere was relaxing. A meal I won't be soon forgetting.

ProfessorShadow _.

Yelp
The tuna tartare was mouthwatering! Their draft sampler was outstanding! They had 7 beer samplers for 8.50 including an amazing St. Ambroise Apricot from Mc Auslan Breweing and a very flavorful Maple Porter from Nickel Brook Brewery.

Yelp
Went for dinner tonight, and it's amazing that this was my first time here......have heard great things and decided that it was time to yelp it up. we started with some artisan bread and cold pressed canola oil, tasty....but even better they let us use our freshly bought Emusify Balsamic Oil.....super nice of them and the combo was great. i opted for the duck.....which was fantastic, super crisp on it - served up with sliced pear and a light salad with a celery puree. My mom had the scallops which were pefectly seared and cooked..........probably the meal of the night.......but the duck was fantastic. great wine pairing suggested by our server who was super friendly, fast, and helpful. enjoy.

Yelp
I am sorry I waited so long to visit. Decor is simple and rustic but WG is an upscale beer bistro - lots of beers at a range of prices from moderate to silly. Wine list looked good. Menu was terrific. Small range of offerings that changes frequently. Pricier than you expect based on the simple, homey feel of the place, but the food is as good as you will find at any high end place in the city. (So, perhaps you can consider it a bargain?) I had the ubiquitous heirloom tomato and fresh mozzarella/basil starter. Tomatoes were excellent and that is what separates the men from the boys in this dish. The chef sprinkled on some dried berries - tart, chewy - a bit weird, I thought but easily avoided. My companion's panko crusted shrimp appetizer evaporated from the tabletop in minutes. Very tasty. Art-Is-In Fennel bread was excellent. Sourdough okay but not excellent. For the main, I had the seared scallops on cauliflower puree with shaved fennel and apple salad. Enough to make a fennel fan swoon. Companion's main was seared halibut in a sort of thai green curry chowder. Tasty, though I'm not sure he was expecting a stew based on the menu description. A selection of homemade ice creams for dessert. Cinnamon as well as chocolate truffle were winners. WG sells ice cream pints for take out.

Brittany M.

Yelp
Amazing carrot and ginger soup... and flatbread!!! Incredible beer selection. The ever evolving menu will satisfy your most adventurous cravings. Wonderful and comfortable first lunch with friends at the Gastropub.

Paul L.

Yelp
Definately one of the most exceptional places to dine in this city. The food is always exceptional, the atmosphere relaxed, the beer and wine list enticing. It's great for either lunch or dinner, and anyone that knows this place has their eyes roll back into their head with a smile when you suggest dining there. If you're thinking of going, stop: just go now.

Lucy L.

Yelp
The worst meal ever. The bread had a horrible taste, soup was bitter, the salad was wilted and the short ribs were dried out. I would never go back nor recommend this restaurant. I simply can't understand the positive reviews.

Amanda B.

Yelp
The Wellington Gastropub is one of my go-to restaurants. The atmosphere is cozy, dimly lit and filled with the loud sounds of customers chattering away. The menu although small changes frequently, they offer a good sized wine list and a great selection of local beer. The beer sampler is a must try! Service is impeccable! Highly recommended! Dishes worth mentioning: * The Heirloom Beet Salad with C'est Bon goat cheese * The Diver Sea Scallops served with chanterelles, fennel and cherry tomatoes * The Pacific Halibut in a leek & corn chowder Bon Appetite!

Eric B.

Yelp
This is one of my Ottawa favourites. I have been there a few times, and the meal is always great. The service is great and the environment is casual but classy. The only negative is that lunch is a bit pricey for smaller servings.

Brandon C.

Yelp
The restaurant and the service are above average. The "beignets" appetizer and the short rib plate I had were very good. The potatoes and carrots that came with the rib were cooked well. The cookies n cream ice cream was unique. They have a good selection of beers and wines. The beer was cold, which was great. Service here is good. The only negative was that we were offered another round of beers by our server (which we accepted), then told less than 10 minutes later that someone had our table reserved at 9, but we could stay til 9. Well, this was at 8:58! All in all, Wellington has very good food. Expect a bit more originality than a standard pub, but for 25-30$ plates it should be. The atmosphere here is relaxed and moderately loud. However, if you plan on staying and spending money, make sure no one has the table reserved after you!

Yelp
Wow. I was here last week for a surprise party and it was spot on. We didn't actually sit in the main pub part, so I can't speak to that: we were 9 people in a private room that you can book, with your own server. It was comfortable, with nice wood finish and laid-back decor, looking out over the street. Food was incredible. They brought some tasty hors d'ouevres including well-presented and tasty raw tuna, and endive with blue cheese. Our group had starters of root vegetable soup (very good) and waldorf-like salad. Most of us had the ribeye steak for a main which was decent; some others had some lentil dish I've since forgotten. It was a very different menu than is currently listed on their web page. Drinks were tops: a good selection of Ontario beers and worldwide wines. They're listed on the web. I can't say enough about the service. Our guy was a pro, and wasn't at all annoying or unsettling. Might be the best dining experience you can have in Ottawa without having to get dressed up and feeling awkward.

Yelp
An amazing evening! Great food and attentive service, Absinthe delivered it all with a relaxed, cool atmosphere. The elegant combination of flavours was evident n the starters (Tuna Ceviche and Beef Tartare). The Steak Frites were excellent, but the Pork Cheek Bourguignon was the star of the evening, succulent and flavourful. The evening was rounded out with the desert sampler and some truly original absinthe cocktails. We will definitely return!

Yelp
Great beer selection and fancy food menu. Great service. Bottom line is that it's overpriced and lacks choice with respect to food. You can basically either get the $30 chicken or the $37 beef. They need more apps and sharing plates given that they are a marketing themselves as a gastroPUB. It's a tad too stuffy here for my taste.

Yelp
We ordered a starter and main. It's a decent place but for the price you pay it's questionable. Worth trying just get ready to spend! Summary below: Pros: - nice atmosphere, good decor - food was good but nothing special - friendly service Cons: - pricey, for the quantity and quality - service was extremely slow. Maybe because we were hungry but it seemed liked we waited for a long time for our dishes

Yelp
I have been hearing and reading about this place for a while now and I was really excited when I realized that I was finally gonna go try it with my best friend for his birthday. We went there on a Wednesday night and at first, I thought I was gonna have a hard time getting there because I'm in Gatineau but no, it took me just a little over a half hour by bus. Anyways, on to the main event, now. When I passed the door I was confused because I saw a lot of people getting out from the little door on the left so I thought it was the dining area but no! It's a private lounge! You have to go upstairs. Protip: don't invite granny if you go because she won't be able to get all the way up there. Enough rambling though. I got upstairs, at last, and told my name to the seater because I had a reservation. He showed me where to go and he even offered to take my coat: wow! So I sat down and looked around while waiting for my friend to show up. I ordered a beer and while sipping on it, stared at the pretty people. The place felt very cozy and even though it's definitely on the chic side, it's not pompous or snob at all. The staff is also very friendly and helpful and the clientele is young. On to the food now, because that's what we are there for after all! To start, I had the beef tartare with crostini and truffle oil. I thought it would go well with my beer. I also had never had tartare before and have always wanted to try it. It was DELICIOUS! I didn't think I was gonna be a fan, but since I always have my steak extra-rare, it makes sense for me to enjoy tartare. The dish was very flavourful and the tenderness of the meat was matched very well by the crispiness of the crostini. I did find however that it was a bit too salty. I still had enough beer to get through 'til I was done though, so in the end, it was good. For my main course, I ordered the sea scallops. That night, they were served with confit celery root (celeriac) and some kind of roasted root vegetables and roquette salad, everything moistened with veal jus. Do I really have to say it was VERY yummy? The scallops were perfectly seared: crispy and brown on the edges, with a very tender heart. The veal jus was a very good idea; I wouldn't have thought of that to go with scallops. The root veggies and roquette salad was really nice too. I think I could have done without the confit celeriac though... It didn't really taste like anything. Another cooking method could have made it keep its flavour, I think. To accompany this course, I did ask the waiter for wine pairing. I don't remember exactly what he suggested, but he gave me a very good white wine that wasn't too sweet nor too acidic. I usually don't like white wine because of that, but I really enjoyed this one. As we still had a bit of room left in our bellies, my friend and I ordered dessert. I had and apple and walnut cake with some sort of cinnamon cream on top. It was really good. Maybe not as outstanding or original as the rest of the meal, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Next time, I would go with the ice cream I think... The flavours seemed very interesting -- more than my cake anyway -- that's what my friend was having and I was kind of jealous. In conclusion, I really dig this restaurant. It's a place with really good food at a reasonable price (on the high end of the scale though). They also have very good staff and in a really intimate decor. There is something for everybody on the menu. It's not a restaurant I think people would be intimidated by if they go for the first time and are not really used to the fancy stuff. I think that's what this place is about: making really good food accessible to the greater number. I really am looking forward to going again and I couldn't recommend it enough. If someone suggests this place to you and you turn it down, God will kill fluffy kittens.

Yelp
Always so good. The food is delicious. The menu rotates regularly (daily? weekly? not sure) though some favourites will reappear regularly. Fresh, local, delicious. Helpful waiters who are not overly attentive. All of them are knowledgeable about the wine list. If the beef tartare is on the menu, order it. You will thank me. (Ohhh, truffle oil.) They do lunches too. This is our "go to" place for a bit of a splurge dinner out.

Yelp
I'm from Alberta, and wanted steak. This felt like a money grab place, slightly yuppie or posh. We were basically sitting right beside two other couples, as if they tried to squeeze as many seats in as possible. Not the most comfortable way to spend a night out with the wife. The menu was very limited and overpriced for what you actually get as far as quality goes. As far as Yelp goes, this was the furthest off from my personal experience to what the majority of reviews say. I will never go back.

Yelp
Really great. From appetizer to dessert, nothing failed to impress me. Even the coffee was great.

Yelp
Weird that ther is no review of this place yet since it is so popular and so good !! Was there last Wednesday night ( for about the 7th time ) and it was a good as it always is. Its a testament to its popularity when you can't just walk in at 7pm on a weeknight and get sat immediately ( which would be the case for 99% of Ottawa restaurants ). We had appys at the bar with a couple of drinks and then got sat 20 min later ( as promised ). Menu is always changing but never dissappoints. I usually go with one of their fish dishes since they are always so interesting and delicious. They do grill a good steak as well though. Nice relaxed atmosphere with knowledgeable and attentive staff

Yelp
Had a great meal last night with the rainbow trout being beyond expectation. Had the banana bread pudding with a scoop off chocolate stout ice cream made on premise. Yummy! Good value great service.

Yelp
Nothing compares to this restaurant. The steak and potatoes are phenomenal and the servers are so friendly. Will definitely be going back! Cheers!!!!

Yelp
A great place to eat once, and the draft beer sampler is a great option. The entrees are good, but pricey. Yes the atmosphere is good, and the wait staff is friendly, but the concept of a gastropub still has the feel of wanting your cake and eating it too.

Yelp
I would actually forgo the appetizer and dessert, which were average, but the main courses were definitely worth the price. All the meat was cooked to perfection, extremely tender. Scallops and pork loin were both very good. Great place to bring someone!

Yelp
Expensive. Very over rated and overpriced. Meal was ok but portions are small. Service was excellent. Very loud and busy atmosphere. About $50+ per person in a pub atmosphere. Not worth it. There are nicer places with better food in a more sophisticated setting.

Yelp
Such a good dinner! We are picky eaters and have eaten in restaurants around the world. We have been at The Wellington Gastropub many times in the past years and always thought it was a very good choice for dinner or lunch. We had not been in almost two years and went back for dinner recently. Service was friendly and efficient. I started with a mixed greens salad and it was one of the best I've had, so fresh, light and different in taste, then had the scallops, again so fresh with greens and not greasy as some chef like to have them soaked in butter. My husband had the Albacore Tuna and loved it and then had the duck breast served with a potato pancake stuffed with greens, again he thought it was very nice. We then shared a plate of cheese which could have been better, (I have not removed stars from this review as I thought that perhaps next time we mention what cheese we like and see if they provide a small selection). They have a very good list of wines to pick from and great beer for beer lovers. We are going back!
