A nice place to sit and relax in the middle of zurich, during summer the limmat canal is swimmable and you can take a swim recently temperature of the canal where about 21 c, so very doable, the current is quite strong but is really fun also for kids and adults alike to be pushed by the river current to the following entry point. Water is very clean but sadly it can become so overcrowded that you cannot find a place to lay down with your own towel

Excellent place for swimming outside. Try swimming both with the stream as well as against the stream. There are good showers in more locations along the river bath. Thank you.

our favorite swim spot in zurich. unbeatable little island in the middle of the river. green grass to lounge on. a gelateria di berna truck parked right next to it. whats not to love...

Had a great time visiting the beach this summer. Meet some nice people and enjoyed the water and sun. I thought it was going to to awkward, but once I stripped down I wanted to stay that way.

Perfect place to chill out either with a book or bunch of friends. Nice place to hangout, swim sunbathe and BBQ.

Nice 30 minute tram ride from Zurich train station, it only cost 8 Swiss francs for an all day ticket around Zurich on tram number 13..don't get a taxi as he wanted to charge me 45 francs and I told him to shove his ride were it doesn't shine. A pleasant but steep decline for 5 minutes and your there.. if your not good with steps just pace yourself on the way back up.. Very pleasant area, had a coffee and bite to eat.. a little on the expensive side so maybe pack your own.. had a 10 minute swim as the water was still a little fresh and then a stroll around the area.. found the nudo area and a few sleazy men lurking in bushes but didn't hassle me.. All in all a pleasant way to fill in an afternoon and see what's outside of the city..

Floating downstream, walking back up, floating downstream, walking back up, floating downstream... and going for a Cervelat and and Apfelwein. Pretty awesome way to spend a summer afternoon, if you ask me. The swimming stretch is quick-flowing, often lifeguarded, and has several ladders; during nice days, expect to deal with people hanging out on the ladders, trying to decide if they want a dip or not. It's totally fair game to bypass them and jump in. (And if that's your style, there's a rope swing on the opposite shore). The playground has both water and dry sections for the 2-to-8 crowd; the climbing structures are all pretty small, so more adventurous kids may be happier swimming. The buildings in the center of the island have an outdoor restaurant, plus bathrooms and warm showers. In the middle of the island, there's a run-of-the-river hydro plant --- good if you like crashing water. More impressive falls are on the south-east corner. One thing to know ahead of time: The western third of the island is a de facto nude area, predominantly male and frequently gay. Everyone's pretty mellow, but it does make for a marked transition just past the powerplant.

This little island in the Limmat River in Zurich sits near the more residential northern suburbs. There are walking bridges onto the island with walk and bike trails on either side of the river. People sunbathe and swim, and also smoke. A lot. Which seemed surprising given the healthy outdoor nature of the place. The water was quite cool, having just warmed up from winter temperatures. The current is very strong and at the end of the swim area is a life guard to be sure you are out to the steps before getting stuck in the hydro-electric facility! I am not a swimmer, so I just tested out the water on the steps. Some people just float the stretch from entry steps to exit steps but a few strong swimmers try to beat the current going the opposite way. Few can. My husband is an extremely strong swimmer and he could hardly keep even against the current. It's sort of like swimming in place in an exercise pool, but with great scenery all around. Perfect for a break on a hot afternoon.

I absolutely love this swimming spot by the river, just waiting to get warm again and return without a shiver! Hop on in towards the entrance and follow the water flow, then hop on out some meters down, and shower off head to toe. People überall lay on towels and soak up sun in this uncity-like spot outside Zurich- so much fun! There's a lil restaurant just beside with sausage and salad, beers and even more, you really gotta have it! Families, couples, elderly, even teenies too- everyone visits here, it's just missing you! The bike trails lead right to it, and if you're tubing, man, you really can't miss this place, it's just behind the dam!

This is my new beach during the summer! I used to go to Letten, but live closer to the Werdinsel! Saturday it is really packed, but during the week it is ok :) love to get into the cold water and chill in the sun!

Badi Werdinsel is a nice place to spend a summerday. There are showers washrooms, changing facilities, restaurant and play ground at the centre of this artificial island. On the East end is a place to lie down, west end as well. But beware if you are against nudity the west end is the place to go in Zürich. Other than that, nice and quiet inside the city!
