West Baden Springs Hotel

"This circular, one-of-a-kind domed-atrium property in rural Indiana—"it’s an architectural marvel in the middle of nowhere"—was once a Jesuit seminary. Accommodations come with embroidered silk bolsters, artwork created from vintage postcards, and Egyptian-cotton sheets; one-bedroom suites have iron beds and leather-topped tables. The clubhouse offers cuisine ranging from home-style sweet corn chowder to grilled breaded pork tenderloin, and views of the Pete Dye Golf Course; Ballard’s Bar serves cocktails in the atrium."

Yelp
Enjoyed 1875, Sinclair and Ballards in the dome for dining. We came to enjoy the Jazz in the library and hoped for a saxophone at least on Saturday night. This is a great resort but could step up the advertised Jazz entertainment.

Yelp
One of the best and hidden gems in the United States! Called the "8th Wonder of the World" Beautiful grounds, service and so much history! Fantastic dinner at The Mansion Pete Dye Golf Course- the most beautiful sunset in all of Indiana and one of the best... Golf Course is Top 10 in US- and the world class spa- Michelle is now my favorite massage therapist! Will be back- great place for 24-48hour trip with your family or significant other! My Wife loves West Baden!!

Yelp
I absolutely loved my stay at the West Baden Springs Hotel for a girls weekend. The historic atrium is a gorgeous background for your visit. The room was tastefully decorated, with a spacious bathroom and mini fridge. The hotel has a free trolley to take you to the French Lick casino. It will also take you anywhere you'd like to go in town (& pick you up!). There are restaurants at both the West Baden Springs Hotel and its sister hotel down the street. I would recommend making reservations. We didn't try out the spa (pricey!) but they have an indoor and outdoor pool with a hot tub. The grounds are so gorgeous with a wraparound porch. While this was a 24 hour visit, I'd love to come with more time and a nice book. We did go to tea in the Atrium, which I wouldn't do next time. The portions are small and it was $50ish a person. I'd rather have a cocktail and enjoy the view for less money. Can't wait to come back to this great Hoosier getaway!

Yelp
This hotel is a special place. It's just so odd to find one of my favorite hotels out in the middle of know where (with another very nice place right next door). We stayed there last year when we saw did the Polar Express with a bunch of family and the kids and their parents really wanted to return this year so we did. I don't know if all of the rooms are suites but we have been in rooms with 4 different floor plans (either to stay in our to visit family) and all were suites. Very comfortable furnishings and bed. Our only complaint this year is that in the bathroom a vent blew cold air pretty much 24 hours a day so it got pretty chilly in that room. You can tell in places that it is an older place that was refurbished but overall they did a really good job fixing the rooms up. The special part is that the hotel is basically a large circle. The inner part is enclosed and makes a really neat atrium. They have lots of places to sit and we spent a lot of time hanging out there. There is also a casual restaurant in the atrium and the nights we were there they had someone playing piano at night. I just love it in there. They also have a nice restaurant on site named Spencer's. We've had breakfast there but never had dinner. There is also a spa and a large indoor pool (which the kids love). They have a shuttle that will take you to the other hotel (and I think might drop you off in town - the other hotel is across the street from the downtown area). You can also take a train/trolley to the other hotel. That hotel has a children's activity center outside it that has free and premium crafts for kids, a small bowling alley, a pizza place, shops and at least two restaurants (and I think one of the remaining springs too). We are probably going to end up making this an annual visit because we all like it so much.

Yelp
Possibly the nicest hotel, not in Indiana, but in the Midwest. The architecture and ambiance are unmatched. The dome in the atrium is literally the 8th wonder of the world.

Yelp
Everything, amazing place, great food , fine dining to a baby grand piano. Antique train ride was fun

Yelp
We decided to take a trip downtown French Lick and see the holiday decorations. They were still decorating at French Lick Resort but the atrium at West Baden Springs was done in all its glory. Everyone should see this at least once. We decided to have dinner at Ballard's in the Atrium so it would be dark and the lights would be on. The food was great as was the service and we even got a piano player for a little dinner music. How nice. The lights around the yard were beautiful also.

Yelp
If you want to give yourself a treat visit this gem of a spot in French Lick. Make sure you plan a good full day just to walk around and take in all the beauty.

Yelp
I've been coming here since the 1960s, in its various incarnations. The hotel has been magnificently restored. There are few hotels remaining in the US with this level of majesty. Its atrium was once described as one of the Wonders of the Earth, and you'll understand the joy as you navigate the hotel. The rooms are smaller, from a different era. The food is fine; not eclectic or haute cuisine. It's good. If you're lucky, a musician, perhaps a harpist or piano player will fill the atrium with music. You can sit and resonate with the hotel's glorious past, pick up its incredible vibe, and become energized with its ambience. It's a different experience, and it's strongly suggested if you have a reason to be in the area.

Yelp
Stayed for the recent solar eclipse and had a fine experience. Regular shuttles took us back and forth to the events across the various resort locations. The drivers were always smiling and eager to chat and help as needed. Check in was a little tedious as we had a big group and they mixed up some details about various party sizes and needs. The front desk staff doesn't improvise very well, and we had to get a manager who sorted things out for us after a lot of explaining. The rooms themselves are fairly spacious. One of the appeals is the cool dome and early 20th century ambiance of the main hotel. It's unique and the history of the place isn't sprinkled throughout. But, that does lead to a few things to note. Rooms facing the dome, rotunda don't have outdoor windows and can get a bit noisy, esp. if the bar and band is hopping. The front desk does have ear plugs. There is a lot for kids - indoor pool and outdoor pool, billiards, games and a kids center, and tons of outdoor activities.

Yelp
My mom has been begging us to see this hotel and we finally decided to make the trip. December is a perfect time, there are Holiday decorations and lights everywhere. It made the space even more magical and beautiful. There are also plenty of family-friendly special events happening through the Holidays. They offer guided tours through Indiana Landmarks but we opted for a self-guided tour this time. The main level is open to the public so you can check out the lobby, restaurants and shops, and the famous atrium. It was kind of a gross rainy day when we were there so we didn't do it, but there is a free trolley that goes back and forth between between the West Baden hotel and the French Lick resort. We ate dinner at Ballard's so we had a beautiful view of the atrium. We spent about 3 hours here but could've spent so much more time exploring, especially if we opted for the formal tours and if we had stayed the night.

Yelp
Most beautiful hotel in Indiana! Largest freestanding dome before the Astrodome was built. A hidden gem many have no idea exists. Great ambience, pretty grounds. A trolley takes you between this & French Lick hotel. Good food, wine. Pet friendly.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful ! The history behind this hidden treasure is amazing. I love that you can walk around, dine, or shop all in 1 place. We enjoyed a cocktail while relaxing and taking in the beauty of the lobby. The staff is so friendly. It was great to talk to them and learn a little more about the hotel. During the summer-the grounds are surrounded by beautiful flowers. I love this place.

Yelp
I've traveled across the US for 30 years for work including sites like the Beverly Hills Resort, the Wynn in Las Vegas, and multiple Four Seasons. In all my travels though, this resort has it all - it includes the majesty and beautiful grounds like Nemacolin with the history and wonder like the Don Caesar, with detailed restoration like the Pendry in Baltimore, but sooo much more. The history we watched on you-tube before our trip, was much deeper and richer on site and in person than we could have ever imagined. At 600 Million in restoration spending to modernize the hotel, workers still preserved its historical hey day wonder and majesty. Orange shirted community groups lobbied with support from the Cook family to save and restore this resort and we are so very grateful. A big thank you to all the local residents who help keep this dream getaway alive.

Yelp
Took the Indians landmark tour for this hotel and there was so much history! Haven't stayed here but planning to in the future! I love domes and I am in awed of this place!

Yelp
As we tread through the front lines, we end up for shelter at the west Baden springs resort. Mission 1 year anniversary has started. Okay taking a break from writing like I'm an army reporter coming off the front lines. I wanted something special for my wife and I to experience for our one year. And this was worth it. As with any place there were places to improve but all in all the stay was great. First of all the staff was excellent. All people took care of us and made us feel special. The place was clean and had a sense of old yet classy throw back to a time when pace was slow and simple. Yet had quite a few things to do. Stables - a bit pricey and to be honest when I ride I don't want a slow trail ride. I want to ride but again I'm not a novice. So would be good family fun and really nice stables Kart racing - didn't try it but looked fun. Games. Hotels had bowling, swimming, family soccer golf. Billiards. Lots of bars and places to have a drink Food - several good places in and out of hotel. Standouts we're 1875, Chicago's, and French licks ice cream Golf - was great! For group really like Donald Ross. And I walked valley links 9. Early morning was great. The town was sleepy and almost post apocalyptic durning week. Nobody there except a few food spots and French licks. The one or two places we did go in we were not greeted. People not in hotel were not very friendly. I say that with the caveats that we went after big weekend and everyone could of just had a "case of the mondays". All in all good experience and we will be back. If you go to 1875 ask for Alex and tell him hi. He's awesome!!! Peace love and happiness!

Yelp
Definitely worth the stop to check out this grand resort. A gem architecturally speaking! The history is amazing. There is a small museum you can go into to learn more about the history. Amazing architecture throughout the main area of the resort. It's easy to park here too. Cute shops are on the main level. I can't describe the rooms because I didn't stay here. Was in the area and stopped off to see the place. So worth the time to go inside and see the grandeur!
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
We always stop here for a great view of the dome. It's a great place to stop have a signature drink and relax for a bit. One of our favorite things to do is hang out in the library with our cocktails and read the notes placed in the books and sometimes leave one of our own. Love the ambiance and look forward to dining and staying overnight here.

Yelp
West Baden was the perfect staycation for my family and I. I was so excited to visit after seeing photos and reading all about what the hotel had to offer. Our whole stay was excellent. We had a breezy check in with friendly staff, a relaxing spa and pool day, and had amazing food. The rooms and vibe of the whole hotel is so peaceful and relaxing. The simple act of sitting in one of the lounge chairs in the atrium was calming. They had live music a few of the nights we were there that added to the ambiance. There are tons of difference lounge areas and restaurants to choose from. Along with those, there are some shops and historic rooms to look around at and the gardens were really pretty to look at from the wrap around porch too. The decor was immaculate and so detailed. I was in awe of the architecture and decor. So beautiful!!! Something I wasn't expecting was the money credit toward room service that came with the booking. It was a nice surprise I didn't know about at booking, so we ordered room service two mornings we were there and had slow, relaxing mornings. This hotel was a short drive to the neighbor hotel, which had a lot to offer as well. Between the two hotels, we enjoyed ourself. It didn't feel like we were Indiana. I can't say enough great things about our stay and the hospitality and considering making this a new family tradition location! I will add, the demographic is most definitely for the older crowd, but young adults like myself can have a nice relaxing getaway. A long 4-day weekend is plenty of time to recharge here!

Yelp
This place is always great! Staff is amazing, the history of the hotel is special for sure, you can walk for hours, great places to see, the other hotel is great too, great and very difficult golf course but great to test your game, unfortunately the casino does not support the hotels or restaurants in the area, very small and the lease the cheapest slots, not worth the trip if that's what your here for, the hotel shuttle is great have just a great place to stay

Erika I.

Yelp
This really is a beautiful and unique hotel. Walking into the atrium with the high dome almost takes your breath away. The staff we interacted with were all courteous and helpful. The pools were wonderful. The shuttle made it easy to get to the other hotel to have dinner and try out the casino. Our room was lovely. However... Each room comes with the obligatory comfy white robes. They may have been wonderful but because they only come in one size, we'll never know. As larger people, they didn't fit us. Any hotel that markets itself (and prices itself) as "luxury"should make sure that ALL of the luxuries are available to ALL of the customers. Very disappointing and makes one feel less welcome.
google avatar

Cat A.

Yelp
This place is special at Christmas time. No place like it in Indiana. The atrium is mesmerizing. My girls and I spend hours on the comfy chaise sleigh chair doing school work / computer work whilst gazing at the magnificent Christmas tree and the ever changing hues of the atrium ceiling. Do not miss the high tea by the fireplace. Depending on the month they are held on either Saturday or Sunday, 2pm and 3pm with a live harpist. You'd swear you were in heaven. Rooms are spacious and clean. Staff is attentive and friendly. You can also enjoy neighboring French Lick hotel's Christmas displays. But nothing beats this atrium!
google avatar

Janel S.

Yelp
Amazing resort. Beautiful. Lots to do. I hear the golf courses are challenging and awesome. Trolley/shuttle service 24x7. Amazing steak dinner at 1875 Steakhouse at the French Lick Resort down the street, which also has a nice casino--smoke-free! We saw part of a baseball game using uniforms and game rules from 1864! Dixieland band. Jazz performance at night. Enjoyed an evening drink on the veranda listening to the leaf peepers and crickets. Hotel bedroom very quiet. Highly recommend it all! Hiked Buffalo Trace Trail nearby. Beautiful wooded area. Took resort shuttle to intersection near trailhead for Trail 2. Took path to right and went from marker 20 to 16. Then took a left turn back to trailhead from marker 5 to 1. We think it was roughly 3 miles. Then walked back to resort, which added maybe another 2/3rds of a mile.

Yelp
A truly impressive facility that is well worth visiting.

Yelp
April 2022 - Great place to visit any time of the year! We had a nice visit today and we were able to see "So Cold The River" movie locations and costumes! Nice creepy movie...
google avatar

Annette B.

Yelp
This place is an architectural gem and, in my opinion, is far lovelier than the competing French Lick Resort. The dome is breathtaking and will stop you in your tracks. The hotel is very clean, the staff are kind, and it is well worth a visit. Parking here is closer to the hotel than parking is to the French Lick Resort.
google avatar

Bob N.

Yelp
The property is amazing and historical. Ballards in the atrium is less so. Service is sketchy, slow and with attitude. Menu is limited for lunch. Iffy management and kind waite staff. All said you need to visit this grand old lady if possible. Given it's back woods, southern Indiana location, it the equal of great resorts around the world.
google avatar

Kelli S.

Yelp
In the tiny, unassuming hamlet of French Lick, IN stands one of the grandest hotels ever built. Before you ever walk into the lobby you expect to be met by men in tux and tails and ladies in evening gowns and furs. The hotel will transform you as will the services, accommodations, and staff. We spent a magical weekend here. Everyone should experience West Baden Springs Hotel
google avatar

Yelp
We stayed at West Baden Springs Hotel for our ten year anniversary, and it was perfect! All of the rooms are great, but we chose the Premium Atrium View Guest Room, because we wanted to be able to look out at the beautiful atrium in the center of the hotel. It is massive, and it is gorgeous. At night they change the color of the lights, and it's really something to look at. We spent some time lying on a lounge in the atrium just watching it. The entire hotel and the grounds around it, including all of French Lick Resort, are awesome! Since we were there for our anniversary we opted for a special package, including roses and wine, and the event staff were awesome! Everything was set up beautifully in our room, which was massive and really nice. Everything was spotless and the service we received was top notch. We had lunch and cocktails at Ballard's in the Atrium. Everything was great, and we loved sitting in the atrium to dine. We had dinner at 1875: The Steakhouse, which was awesome! All of our reservations were made through the hotel, and it could not have been easier. Everything, including booking, our arrival and stay, and our departure was easy and flawless. If you're looking for an awesome spot to stay, it doesn't get much better than West Baden Springs Hotel!

Yelp
If you are into beautiful architecture and beautiful tile work, you need to get yourself to this hotel. Everywhere you look, there is something old and charming and beautiful to gaze upon. When I came back from my weekend at West Baden Springs Hotel, and I was trying to describe the hotel and its grounds to people who had not seen it, I kept using the word "beautiful" -- much like I am in this review. But it IS beautiful, and there's not a better word to describe it. Some of the more charming aspects of the hotel lie in the details, which you probably won't notice unless you slow down and stay for a while. The metal fleur de lis handrails on the stairs. The fainting couches in the halls of the hotel rooms. The exquisite tile work that dates back a century. (I may have already mentioned the tile in this hotel, but it's worth mentioning again!) Some of our favorite times during our weekend were just hanging out and playing checkers in the lobby (they have a wooden set laid out, as well as chess), sitting and people-watching in the huge atrium or getting a bite to eat at Sinclair's in the Atrium, the in-hotel restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as high tea occasionally. It felt spectacularly decadent to eat dinner here (we did so twice) because you are sitting under the gigantic atrium and you can see everything happening around you. West Baden Springs Hotel also has a train that departs from the hotel and goes to French Lick Hotel, which is not too far away. It comes about every 25 minutes or so. French Lick Hotel seems to have more "things" to do (they have a bowling alley, arcade and casino), so we took the train there several times. If you don't want to wait for the train, you can also opt to take the shuttle, which will take you not only to French Lick Hotel, but also French Lick Winery and the downtown area. The train and shuttle are free, and the shuttle runs 24/7. As for the hotel room: Wow, what comfortable bedding! I wish I would have checked the name of the pillows they use, because they were awesome and like sleeping on clouds. The bathroom is large and you get a complimentary bathrobe to use. Also, there is a coffee maker in each room, and the coffee is actually really good. Each room also comes with a mini refrigerator and sink, but there isn't a microwave. While we were visiting, we walked around the grounds a bit and checked out the springs where people would "take the cure." (Side note: Holy eff, sulphur smells really bad.) That magical elixir water that people would travel miles for? You can't find it here anymore, unfortunately. But you can read about it and how awesomely it moved bowels back in the day. West Baden Springs Hotel is in the middle of nowhere Indiana, so other than the two hotels, you are not going to find a lot of restaurants and things to do. But when you're here, you're probably not going to care about all that because this hotel is such a nice place to be.

Yelp
Here for a conference and the stay has been great! Best dinner was at the Pete Dye Golf Course for a reception and it was phenomenal! My husband and I will likely always talk about how good the short rib was! Everyone has been friendly and the hotel is very clean and we love the

Yelp
This is genuinely one the most unique resorts I've ever visited. Not only is the architecture a phenomenal experience. But, the building itself is a wonder to behold. I will leave an aerial shot I took as reference. The food is amazing whether you do the upscale weekend buffet, or the magically-mundane lunch grab. You will never eat a bite that isn't a taste-bending treat. The place is simply understatedly amazing. Take the tiny train to French Lick Casino. 15 minutes of free fun across the small town. It travels back and forth all day and we'll into the evening. Or perhaps a horse carriage is more your style? West Baden has you covered. If you are not a big gambler or don't enjoy the concert-laden night life, the golf course is truly immaculate Room service is swift and oh what a treats do they have. Now you are feeling the lap of luxury after 7pm turn-down bed service. A bit of room service and a just released film filling your senses.l makes you feel complete. Though it is one of the small things in the massive complex, I find it uniquely West Baden. The building is obviously circular in design. So, it does take a moment to "get your bearings." To assist you in this, there is a compass designed into the carpet itself. It took me a few trips to realize, as I walk every twenty feet, the compass, woven into the carpet, is actually giving me directions and adapts as I round the bend of the beautiful hotel. I honestly think it is this level of detail that makes this place so special. Sure, the gardens are beautiful. But, it seems almost everything has a purpose. And that purpose, is to make you feel right at home...without the worries.

Yelp
I was skeptical at first, not sure what to expect, but after a winding road or two and a few hours later, we pulled into a beautiful luxurious resort with a lovely domed atrium, and sumptuous garden grounds. As we checked into the room, I was again pleasantly surprised by the simplicity and elegance that was our room. The overall resort was beautiful and featured restaurants, bar, a pool, shops, and an amazing rotunda. Felt like a time long past but still accessible through this portal. I could imagine how it must have been 100 years ago... In any case, it was filled with ambiance and romance and I suppose that I would stay here again, although there isn't much to do here since the town is an eyeblink and mostly vacant, this resort and its sister resort are the only things to do in the town, but if I was to need time to read or stroll in some gardens and feel as though I was living in the 19th or 20th centuries, this might be one of the few mid west places to go. There were some strange occurrences which is why I am only giving 4 stars, but a 5 star place would really need to be special on ALL fronts, and having a ghost town as a host town already takes it down for me. You may feel differently about that... Come check it out and decide for yourself.

David S.

Yelp
This is a wonderful place to vacation! The atrium and architecture are stunning. Every meal we had at the resort was magnificent. We feel welcomed every time we stay here. Highly recommend!

D B.

Yelp
We can not say enough good things about this resort! The facilities and grounds are beautiful and incredibly well maintained. But it's the staff that really makes the experience special. They are incredibly nice and professional. Thank you for a great stay: We will be back soon!!

Yelp
For a peaceful getaway to French Lick, look no further than West Baden Springs Hotel. Seriously. Stop looking. West Baden Springs is part of the French Lick Resort family, but located away from the hubbub that makes up the family-friendly French Lick Springs Hotel and casino closer to town. If you're traveling with children, the French Lick Springs Hotel is probably your best option, as it houses a pizza place, arcade, and bowling alley. If, however, you are traveling with grown-ups, and are a grown-up yourself, West Baden Springs Hotel is probably more your style. The atrium is gorgeous - it's described as the 8th wonder of the world, stretches 200 feet, and is simply phenomenal. This is the central architectural feature, with the rooms, restaurants, and shops located around it. There is plenty of comfortable seating, so guests can linger and enjoy at all times. I recommend taking advantage of one of the resort packages - there is truly something for everyone - including a murder mystery weekend, historic experience, romance package, and SpaCation. Each package includes your room (which has a mini-fridge, in-room coffee maker, and a comfy bathroom), as well as other perks such as resort credits, dining, spa time, and more, depending on your preference. We booked the historic package, which included breakfast each day, a guided history tour of the hotel, and a book about the area written by a local author. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is related to several instances of slightly lackluster communication. When checking in there was some confusion about payment, specifically regarding pre-payment versus payment upon checking out, as well as the specific meals included in our package. We also were not told that the breakfast cafe would be closed one of the days we stayed. As such, we presented ourselves for breakfast that morning, and although there were other diners enjoying breakfast, were told that the cafe was closed. When we asked about the people currently dining, we were told that they have simply come in and sat down without approaching the hostess station, and hadn't been turned away. This seemed a little unfair to us. Regardless, this resulted in our finding the West Baden Bagel Bistro, which ended up being an equally, if not superior breakfast experience. Overall, whether you're a history buff, a murder mystery enthusiast, a relaxation queen/king, or just want to relax, the West Baden Springs Hotel is absolutely the right choice for a grown-up mini-vacay.

Yelp
I booked West Baden Springs for a 4 night girls trip with a good friend of mine. I had visited a few times but never stayed the night. What a GREAT choice! Starting with the staff at the front desk... Stacey and Gabby were amazing greeting us at check in and ensuring our room was ready as expected. Then there was Michael D. He gave us a tour of the presidential suite which in of itself was an amazing room but he is a life long resident of French Lick and offered us so many more details about the hotel and the area. He was a gem to meet and learn from! Then there was the shuttle service. French Lick Resorts, including West Baden Springs, French Lick Resort and the Casino, run a shuttle service between the hotels/casino. But what many people don't know-I didn't until we got there-is that the shuttle will take you anywhere in town for free. Need something from CVS? They will take you. Need to go to the grocery store? They will take you. Want to dine at a restaurant in town? They will take you. Again, no charge. (They do accept tips and I highly recommend that. These folks work very hard driving people all over all day long). The shuttle runs 24/7 365. A shout out to Joanne, one of our drivers. She provided amazing service recommending restaurants to us in town and both of her recommendations turned out to be spot on! The staff at West Baden Springs makes this place. As does the atmosphere, the beauty of the resort and the history. We spent a lot of time at the pool. It is small but quiet and oh so relaxing! You can order food and drinks to be delivered to the pool which was a nice perk! We had some delicious food including a potato casserole for breakfast one morning that was to die for! Having never taken a girls trip in my life before, I can say this trip turned out to be absolutely perfect! Thank you to everyone at West Baden Springs for making this week so special! Oh..one last thing... our room.. we had a two bedroom suite overlooking the atrium. What a GREAT room!!!!

Yelp
Make sure it's what you want to do. NO REFUNDS! I got a gift certificate for our anniversary. My wife said it's not something she wants to do. Tough luck, they don't do refunds.

A man-made wonder of the world that's only an hour getaway from Indy. If you haven't been, make plans for your next free weekend. The hotel: a huge dome of gorgeous architecture and luxurious rooms, all mixed in with a great history. A majority of the rooms include a balcony to the interior of the hotel, so everyone can enjoy the view even from in their room. There's even a nightly light show that is projected on the dome roof. So fun to be able to watch it from your room in your pajamas. Amenities: there's a cafe, a restaurant (in the hotel lobby - it's yummy!), huge comfy chairs to relax in while you stare at the dome roof, a spa, clothing shops, and more. Food situation: there's two awesome, in-house restaurants. One is located in the lobby of the hotel, and therefore we were able to watch the late night light show on the lobby ceiling while we ate an amazing burger and salad. We then dined in the other restaurant for breakfast and it was luxurious and yummy, with a perfect, create-your-own omelette option.

Yelp
The main hotel was booked so we ended up at the West Baden Springs Hotel which in my opinion is the better option of the two. The hotel is beautiful and has an a lot of interesting history. The rooms are fairly pricey even before you add the tax and resort fees. The casino is in the French Lick Springs Hotel. There is a 24/7 shuttle between the two hotels. The casino has a decent number of table games and lots of slots. They also have some golf courses, a spa and numerous dining options. This is a great resort for a special occasion or just a weekend get away.

Yelp
Recently did a 3 day/4 night stay at West Baden and it was a treat. The hotel staff at the front desk and housekeeping are professionals and are of the highest quality. There isn't much that I can say that hasn't been said about West Baden before, and I'll break down the in-house restaurants in later reviews. Pro-tip: Atrium facing room with balcony is worth it for the people watching and nice view. That said, the top floor balconies can get REALLY hot (heat rises). You may want to consider the middle floor balconies if staying during spring/summer. The music played between 6-9pm every night is a nice touch, but the quality of the musicians can vary. Sometimes the musician is playing from sheet music of classic children's songs. Other times you'll find a guitarist who is just grooving through some soft guitar licks. The French Lick and West Baden resorts are connected by train/trolley (until 10pm), shuttle (24 hours), sidewalks, and a multi-use path. The walk on the sidewalks and pathway both have very little shade, and the train is not air-conditioned. So you may want to keep that in mind. That said, having this variety of options is great. The pool is hardly ever used so you'll likely have it to yourself. There are bottled waters within the pool area, the locker rooms have body wash soap and shampoo for showering, and the towels in the pool area are always available. The hotel staff I interacted with at the front desk and housekeeping were top notch. You'll be treated well. A lot of the annoying things 4 and 5 star hotels do (charging for Wi-Fi, key card to turn on the electricity in your room, etc...) haven't made it here so it is nice to not be charged for what many of us consider our God-given right (Wi-Fi). Finally, the rooms are fairly modern for a historical hotel. There is almost an abundance of electrical outlets/plug space. Water pressure/temperature was great. Wi-Fi was adequate and cell/data reception worked just fine within the hotel. There is a mini fridge but you won't "accidentally" pick up a mini-bar item because they aren't in the fridges. You have to order it via room service. My one real complaint is echoed from my previous review and it really hasn't changed much. The grounds of West Baden are going through quite a bit of renovation (mentioned in the previous review) and I'm glad they're occurring. This is a beautiful property with a rich history. However, I'm concerned that the Hoosier mentality of doing modest improvements isn't quite what this resort needs. A lot of the grounds seem to be underutilized and I hope that an ambitious plan is put forth to really improve, connect, and make this place even more beautiful than it already is. For example, the original billiards building within the garden is showing very obvious signs of decay. Portions of the ceiling are just falling apart and I'm concerned that the cost of restoring it is just going to keep adding up until it is no longer financially feasible to do so. This was overall an excellent stay and I'd recommend for anyone to try it out for a few days. But go for the middle floor balcony to avoid the heat.

Yelp
This place is beautiful! We came here for a one-night getaway for Valentine's Day. It was a little confusing driving in, they had a gate closed and we may have went up the wrong side. It wasn't until we were up by the hotel we saw a sign, and again had to drive around a mini blockade which made us feel we were in the wrong spot. I think this may be due to the roads on the grounds having patches of uncleared snow - which it hadn't snowed that day or the previous night? It also snowed an inch or two the night we were staying, and the next morning the ground's roads were not plowed or cleared when we checked out at 10am. It was packed snow, so not terrible, and the main road in West Baden was plowed. When we drove to the Valet spot to check-in and wasn't sure if we were in the right spot, Johnathan came to greet us and explained the set up. Since we were an hour or so early to check-in time, he went inside to see if our room was ready. It was and he was able to take our car so we could go right in. Great service! The inside is absolutely stunning. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. It is clean and spacious. With this review being during the pandemic, we felt safe - all employees and guests were wearing masks. They are taking all safety precautions. We saw a man walk in without a mask, and an employee immediately reminded the guest to put one on. Currently they are only allowing hotel guests inside and at French Lick, which there were some "security checkpoints" around looking for a wristband. It was great to walk around the halls and see historic pictures. It was disappointing that the museum itself was closed, but understand some things have to be sacrificed during this time. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Something I did want to mention is my boyfriend and I took back-to-back steam showers, and the fan inside is no joke! The rest of the bathroom didn't fog up or get steamy. Small thing, but A+ from me. There is a shuttle service that runs the whole night in between French Lick and West Baden. Right now, we were told they are not shuttling to the French Lick Winery (except Valentine's Day weekend). We didn't get a chance to go there since they close at 5pm each night of the week except Fri and Sat. We do want to come back when the weather is warmer and explore a bit more. For a one night getaway, we enjoyed our stay and will be recommending it to some friends who are also looking for a weekend trip in driving distance from Indianapolis!

Yelp
Nice. For a more than $300 a night room, you get what you would expect. Everything was very clean. The sheets were fresh and bug free. The turndown service was a nice service to have. We slept well. It is a very old hotel, and it smells like one. It took a little getting used to. Everything seemed to be modern except the dressers. That rounded out the historic feel. Once again, it is what you would expect for the price. The front desk wasn't helpful or unhelpful. They were efficient. The woman who checked us in was very concerned about which credit card I used. I used the one that I could put a $300+ room on. She mentioned it four different times. We enjoyed the atrium and the jazz music that was being performed that night. We also enjoyed just looking around the hotel.

Yelp
West Baden, first built in 1855 as the Mile Lick Inn, has gone through many ups and downs. At one point it was sold for only $1 during the depression. Through many different hands, it was finally revitalized in 2007 and restored to the magnificent resort it is today. Our favorite part of the hotel was the 200 ft. diameter atrium. When we went there was a massive Christmas tree in the middle and each balcony had a giant ornament hanging from it. I'm excited to check out the grounds when the weather is warmer but the holiday decorations are a must-see. Both West Baden and French Lick had stunning dioramas all throughout their properties. French Lick even had an 8 ft tall gingerbread house that they make on sight. The resort also offers a nighttime horse-drawn sleigh ride through the lights that decorate the grounds

Yelp
This review is strictly as a visitor viewing the hotel, not as an actual guest. Although my wife and I arrived too late to take a tour of the hotel, we were able to walk through the common areas...more like spectacular areas! By now, most in the area have heard of the massive restoration project undertaken to save this hotel from becoming dilapidated. Indiana Landmarks and the Cooks put in endless hours and substantial money respectively, into saving this beautiful space. At the time of its original build, the dome was the largest free standing one of its kind in the US. But this isn't just a simple dome. From floor to ceiling, the artistic details are incredible. While most look up at the dome, they walk across intricate carpeting and mosaic inlaid tiles that show absolute craftmanship. The grand dome must be crossed before a visitor can even check in. The check in area is a miniature version of the dome with rounded walls and columns too. No matter where you walk, the detail is fantastic. Light fixtures by the pool stairway look like bubbles. Carved statues, an ornate fireplace, and overstuffed chairs welcome the visitors to an experience unlike the humdrum world of work. This place looks like a complete escape to another place. Now that we've visited, it sounds like my wife is looking into becoming an actual guest. A must see if you are in the area! Review #2671

Yelp
We have had the best most relaxing stay here. There is so much to do without ever leaving the resort. We took the historical tour which was very interesting and informative. We participated in the French Lick Resort Bourbon Trail and received our gift at the front desk once we had our 4 stamps. We rode the rail car with Ben, our driver, to French Lick Springs Hotel and back. Ben had the best stories and was an absolute pleasure. He made our ride so enjoyable. Both pools, indoor and outdoor, were very nice. You can order food and drinks and they will bring it to the pool for you. It was a nice service. Our room was big and comfortable. We had a king size bed, couch, dining table with two chairs, a bar area, and a large bathroom. I can not say enough about the in-room dining especially the dog menu. Our dog has been eating like a princess. The chef has done an excellent job preparing healthy options. She ate off the menu every night. She had the Chicken a la pooch, fish cake, Moses' Meatloaf, and Scooter's Biscuit du Jour. She loved them all. We had burgers for dinner one night and the Sprudel's Choice for breakfast. The food was excellent. We will definitely be making return future visits. We love this place.

Yelp
What a gorgeous place in the middle of nowhere! We absolutely loved our stay, including room quality, food and horseback riding. The spa services were excellent but incredibly difficult to book over the phone (hard to get ahold of someone for a period of weeks beforehand). The tour was informative but a bit long...You can learn most of the history by reading the booklet they provide at check-in. Be ready to invest a pretty penny into a long weekend here; it's not cheap.

Yelp
Once considered the 8th wonder of the world. This resort is everything you could possibly want. The atrium is unlike anything I've ever seen. Absolutely beautiful and peaceful at the same time. The room we booked was one with a balcony overlooking the Atrium. The trick is , put you table chairs out on the balcony to sit and enjoy the spectacular view. It was built in 1901 and has a unbelievable history. Now with the Casino rocking on the resort grounds, it's back to its former glory. The staff is all nice and very helpful. The gardens you can walk through are truly beautiful. The pool, spa and all the other activities gives you an unbeatable relaxing, peaceful stay at a truly one of a kind hotel.

Yelp
West Baden a mysterious hidden gem in middle of nowhere, Indiana.  I guess that was mentality of the 'gangsters' from the 1920's as well who hung out there per the historical info.  I took my mother to West Baden Springs Hotel for a mother/daughter overnight visit.  I had gambled at the casino at the neighboring French Lick Resort and even ate at one of their restaurants once upon a time, but it had been probably 10 years since I was there last.   It's beautiful and with a plethora of activities to do; you will not be bored.  There's golf, spa, nice indoor and outdoor pools, horseback riding, parks and trails, historical greens to walk and read about the history.  While there were several restaurants; the pizza place was closed during our stay for a private event and another was under construction.  I was a little disappointed when we were banking on ordering pizza on sight to learn our only option for delivery was Papa Johns....blah. The actual room was gorgeous. We stayed in a room with atrium views to see the inside dome. The room was elegantly groomed with antique style décor.  The beds were comfortable as well.  We didn't spend too much time in the room to be honest as we were exploring, swimming, and trying our luck down the block.  I appreciated the trolley and shuttle that ran regularly throughout the day to take you anywhere within reason that you wanted to go.

Yelp
My wife and I came here for a conference. What an interesting place! You feel a bit like you've stepped into the set of a Southern Indiana version of Mrs. Maisel! Our room was very nice, with plenty of space and two showers. I was especially impressed with how well they have integrated technology into the old architecture. Often in historical hotels, you can feel like the tech (wifi, TVs, etc.) were such an afterthought (which they are!) that it feels awkward and doesn't work well. Not so here. The area is great, as well. I was disappointed that it rained because I was really looking forward to some hikes. Overall very entertaining, though.
