West Cliffs Golf Course

Excellent accomodation close to major golf courses. We rented a three bedroom apartment overlooking the lagoon. The accommodation was spotlessly clean, well set out and furnished. It was cleaned every other day and provided the perfect base to explore the three excellent golf courses in close proximity. The complex has excellent security and felt exceptionally safe. We arrived early in the morning (2AM) but they were well prepared and the security guard was able to guide us to our appartment||West Cliffs is situated above Obidos and the surrounding area so there is a reasonable drive uphill from the motorway but otherwise this was the perfect choice

Really enjoyed playing west cliffs. The front nine is defo harder than the back nine but what a challenging course it is! The wind is definitely the third player in the game. Course condition is good and the grass is just velvet to the irons. Views are Stunning. Overall, a pleasure to play there! The team was very welcoming and helpful. We felt very welcomed from the moment we arrived. Clubhouse felt spacious and modern. V thankful for the experience! We will be back!

Deeply Disappointing Stay at West Cliffs Golf Resort – Sadly Put Us Off Portugal We booked West Cliffs Golf Resort for what was meant to be our first ever trip to Portugal — a peaceful, relaxing getaway in what looked like a luxury setting. Sadly, this experience has completely changed how we feel about visiting the country again. The villa we were given looked and felt abandoned. Bare walls, half-hanging curtains, and a damp, musty smell as soon as we walked in. It was cold, lifeless, and nothing like what we expected. The whole place just felt neglected and forgotten. The worst part, though, was the attitude of the staff. The reception team clearly do not want to be there. They were rude, uninterested, and dismissive from the moment we approached them —even upon check in. No one offered to check the villa or even apologise. It was shocking and honestly uncomfortable to deal with. As this was our first experience of Portugal, it’s heartbreaking to say that it’s put us off coming back. The complete lack of friendliness or care made it hard to enjoy the rest of our holiday. The location itself is beautiful, but the resort is so poorly run that it completely ruins it. Misleading, overpriced, and nothing close to five-star. Avoid.

Extremely disappointing experience. The villa was dirty, the service was uncaring, and staff were dismissive and, at times, deceptive. From arrival it was clear that guest care was not a priority. Despite this being marketed as a five-star experience, there was a lengthy walk to the accommodation with no offer of assistance or transport, which is well below what you would expect at this level. The villa itself was as poor as the service — tired, unclean, and not properly checked. Items were definitely missing from the villa, yet this was simply denied by the hotel with no meaningful investigation, which was both frustrating and upsetting. The hotel trades heavily on the reputation of the golf course, but the villa experience does not live up to that name. Reviews for the villas should be clearly separated, as they are not comparable to the main facilities. The only redeeming feature was the restaurant, which was genuinely good — unfortunately, it was the sole positive in an otherwise very poor stay.

Monday 8 november we did a 18 holes which was great. Weather was very good. After the golf we are in the restaurant. Spent 34 euro’s on a bottel of wine that was 5 euro in the supermarkt. Margin is fine but this is rediculous. I felt robbed

For the green fee price I was surprisingly disappointed. I’m a decent golfer (off 11) and found the course layout (especially the greens) unkind to amateurs. The best score in our group of 12 golfers was 26 points from a guy with a handicap of 1. You get nice views but I wouldn’t pick this if booking a golf trip in/around Lisbon. It’s a bit of a slog.

Booked two nights in a four-bedroom villa expecting a five-star resort experience, but unfortunately it did not meet that standard. On arrival there was no complimentary water, only two coffee pods for a four-bedroom villa, and no milk. There is no room service or way to call for basic necessities. While there is a restaurant on site, it is not at an elevated level. When I phoned ahead to arrange dinner, I was given options that were presented as part of the resort, but two required a 14-minute drive to another property, which was disappointing after travelling over 30 hours from Australia. The experience was poor enough that we left after one night despite booking two. Expedia suggested a refund for the unused night, which the hotel declined. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I wouldn’t want others expecting a true five-star resort experience to be misled.

DO NOT PREPAY!!The staff were rude and dismissive, and the only reason they even deal with you is for your money. They also charged us for premium club rentals, and gave us the lowest level of clubs, found out when we golfed Praia D'el Ray a couple days later. Unfortunately the weather was really bad while we were there, so the course was saturated and in poor condition (footprints on the greens and standing water on ever fairway) with constant rain and thunder showers. The greens and fairways were so wet that the water would spray off the ball any time it was moving. The only way they let you cancel a prebooked reservation is if the course is closed, asked when they would close and they said never just wait it out. We made it to hole 13 in 6hrs, and they still wanted us to wait it out.

A great golf course a hour North of Lisboa. The course is new (opened 2017) and designed by Cynthia Dye. At the moment, the course is semi-private. The public can schedule tee time on-line but there is an option to purchase membership. Perhaps the owners will eventually limit public tee times as the course increases in popularity. The course is great and I foresee if becoming one of the top golf destinations in Europe. At the moment, there are no standing structures on the course to spoil your views of the ocean and surroundings (except for club house and lavatories hidden on the course). The developer is planning to build a community around the course, so I'm not sure of the impact to views. Lisboa marked the end of two weeks golfing in Sotogrande and Algarve. Since I would be in Lisboa I made arrangements to stay near West Cliffs and booked a tee time. Though only a hour from Lisboa, I would recommend making accommodations near the course. It is possible to drive from/to Lisboa to play West Cliffs but it can be exhausting (portion of the drive is on rural roads). The facilities are new and simple but the course made the trip worth the drive. Service is professional but basic. Players have an option of walking, buggy, or board. Most of the players walk which can slow down your round if you are not walking. For most of the holes you have a view of the ocean but I'm afraid once construction of homes pick up the course will loose some of its charm. Cynthia Dye did an amazing job designing each hole. Most of the holes requires a player to account for wind. Overall, a great course to play for single as well as mid handicappers. Of my two weeks playing golf in Southern Iberia, this is one of my favorite courses. It reminds me a lot of Cabot Links.
