"West Coast National Park is just about an hour from Cape Town, but feels worlds away from the city's chaos. Anyone who knows about Cape Town beaches will tell you that the Atlantic waters in this part of the world are nippy at best, yet somehow, the coves and lagoons of this park feel at least a few degrees warmer than their counterparts to the south. It's rugged and beautiful, and a great slice of South Africa's distinctive natural landscape." - Sarah Khan

"We want to get out of Cape Town. Please tell us this will be an escape! This idyllic national park is just about an hour north of Cape Town, but feels worlds away from the city's chaos. Anyone who knows about Cape Town beaches will tell you that the Atlantic waters in this part of the world are nippy at best, yet somehow, the coves and lagoons of this park feel at least a few degrees warmer than their counterparts to the south. It's rugged and beautiful, and a great slice of South Africa's distinctive natural landscape. Fun! If we have time to plan ahead, what's the best season to visit the park?Come every August and September, as the region's wet winters begin to give way to spring, the northern reaches of South Africa give way to a stunning natural phenomenon that's like a spring version of the fall foliage of New England; here, the otherwise arid landscapes erupt with colorful wildflowers as far as the eye can see. This landscape trickles down as far south as the West Coast National Park, where, if your timing is right, you'll be welcomed by vast fields of colorful spring flowers unfolding in all directions. We'll keep it in mind. Was it easy to get around? As in all national parks and public areas in South Africa, this one is fairly well signposted and easy to navigate. It sounds great. One last thing—who do you think it's best suited for? This is a great destination for wildlife lovers, with plenty of gorgeous trails for hiking, beaches for swimming, and fields of spring flowers for frolicking. There's also plenty of wildlife, though the animals can be shy." - Sarah Khan

I cannot even begin to describe the beauty you see here. There’s a stillness while birdwatching, a buzz while driving through the winding roads, an excitement when seeing a beautiful animal. I was truly amazed by the flamingos and would definitely recommend everyone visit.

We had a great time in this lovely park. On one side the ocean is roaring at your feet, and on the other side the bluest lagoon is quiet and incredibly beautiful! (So beautiful I forgot to take pictures!) We had a milkshake near the birds view point. Then headed towards Langeban for dinner.

My family and I went to the lagoon today and it was so lovely. The water was shallow so the kids could play and so clear you could see the sand under the water. There were little fish swimming in the water and they were so cute. It was so fun and we will definitely be going again

We did the Bakoor trail - 3 and a half hours. A trail that rises through typical dry-coast brush up to the lookout where the info centre is exactly that. The vistas are 360 degrees north over Langebaan, east to the verdant, distant rolling hills. The south has Table Mountain in miniature and west, the startlingly turquoise lagoon. Then down through new scrubby bush, this time influenced by water off the giant boulders to be white fluff bushes, rusty-leaved bushes, greys and greens of so many shades. The bird hide on the lagoon is captivating, not only for the flamingos, but the range of other birds. And throughout the walk, the tortoises! Blowing the cobwebs away? Absolutely! Without the roar of the tar and the bikes ... but the fresh, open undulations of the West Coast Reserve. Refreshing. A treasure!

Our favourite place to spend a full day on a weekend is the West Coast National Park. At Tsaarbank we braai, take our camp chairs and spend the day there, enjoying the ocean. It is close to bathrooms, which have been newly renovated. The braai is always clean. Just remember your own grid. They have also renovated the braai facilities. We live in a beautiful country ❤️ I am thankful to have parks like this around.

It was a spectacular day to visit the park. Unfortunately, we didn't have time on our side. So worth putting a day aside to see the various spots and find your favourite one. Options available to stay in the park.

Whether you're looking for a peaceful retreat, a family adventure, or simply a chance to reconnect with nature, the West Coast National Park delivers on every level. It's a destination that will leave you with a deep appreciation for South Africa's stunning biodiversity and unspoiled landscapes. One of the park's most enchanting features is the Langebaan Lagoon, with its striking turquoise waters that seem almost otherworldly. The lagoon is perfect for kayaking, birdwatching, or simply enjoying a serene picnic by its shores.Don't miss it!
