"We want to get out of Cape Town. Please tell us this will be an escape!This idyllic national park is just about an hour north of Cape Town, but feels worlds away from the city's chaos. Anyone who knows about Cape Town beaches will tell you that the Atlantic waters in this part of the world are nippy at best, yet somehow, the coves and lagoons of this park feel at least a few degrees warmer than their counterparts to the south. It's rugged and beautiful, and a great slice of South Africa's distinctive natural landscape. Fun! If we have time to plan ahead, what's the best season to visit the park?Come every August and September, as the region's wet winters begin to give way to spring, the northern reaches of South Africa give way to a stunning natural phenomenon that's like a spring version of the fall foliage of New England; here, the otherwise arid landscapes erupt with colorful wildflowers as far as the eye can see. This landscape trickles down as far south as the West Coast National Park, where, if your timing is right, you'll be welcomed by vast fields of colorful spring flowers unfolding in all directions. We'll keep it in mind. Was it easy to get around?As in all national parks and public areas in South Africa, this one is fairly well signposted and easy to navigate. It sounds great. One last thing—who do you think it's best suited for?This is a great destination for wildlife lovers, with plenty of gorgeous trails for hiking, beaches for swimming, and fields of spring flowers for frolicking. A truly beautiful West Coast beach experience. The sand is clean and wide, the views are breathtaking, and the atmosphere is calm and relaxed. Perfect for long walks, relaxing by the water, and enjoying the natural beauty of the West Coast. The water is refreshing, and it never feels overly crowded. A peaceful escape that we always definitely return to. Its our favourite spot to relax and unwind. A true gem!!!

The West Coast National Park is a truly beautiful park, and I’ve been privileged to visit on several occasions. I was lucky enough to see the private section open to the public during the flowering season, and I also ran my first marathon here, enjoying the calm, scenic stretch of ocean with the boat. All of these are treasured memories!

I sure am glad someone told me about this National Park about an hours drive from Blouberg beach area or an hour and a half from Cape Town. Beautiful views of Ocean and green lagoon, paved roads to drive around. Many view points. There is some African animal wildlife here, mostly soft skin animals, I saw several groupings of Ostrich and a tortoise. A couple of food concessions and rest areas. Access to pristine beaches, the water looks great. Atlantic Ocean is one of the borders and a couple of dirt roads take you there. Takes about 3 hours to drive all the routes. Lots of Bird watching areas!

Superb day! We came in from Langebaan, reception ver friendly and professional! Armed with the provided map we went on the way to the first Lookout Point. WoW! Although it was very misty it was beautiful. Continuing to the next viewpoint we enjoyed the beautiful landscape, so colorful. Second viewpoint was just as amazing WHAT A COUNTRY/BEAUTY. 1 of the 2 Birdhides (at the closed 'redstaurant' ) was beautiful, the other needs a little maintenance. Again stunning nature. Lots of wind, the mist was gone now. We observed flamingo's,bontebokies,turtles,Guinea fowls. We had a wonderfull time. Roads are good. On the way out, returning to Langebaan, we Visited the viewpoints again. I Found a big Brown snake sunbathing on my path : obviously it was scared by me and i couldn't picture it. Shame Sunparks doesn't make a few small waterholes to attrackt some wildlife. The area as vast so chances on noticing the small bokkies is small. Very much worth a visit.

Beautiful views, safe environment and peaceful surroundings. My only issues are the parking space available and the steps down to Kraalbaai beach which needs improvement. The toilets also need to be cleaned on a regular basis.

Beautiful view from the hill in the morning, less in the afternoon. Dramatic Atlantic coast, charming lagoon, ideal for families. Good bird watching.

Stunning water very windy when we were there so birdlife hiding a bit. Saw ostriches flamingos (on my camera haven't downloaded yet). Definately worth a visit make sure you have a wild card when visiting Sth Africa saves so much on entry fees.

🌸 Spring at its best! The West Coast National Park is absolutely breathtaking during flower season. Endless fields of daisies and vibrant wildflowers create a colorful carpet that feels magical. The park is well-kept, peaceful, and perfect for a day trip with family or friends. ✨ Highlights: • Stunning floral displays (August–September is peak season) • Relaxed driving routes with plenty of photo stops • Clean facilities but picnic spots can be better • A must-see for nature lovers and photographers Highly recommend visiting early in the day to avoid crowds and get the best light for photos. A five-star experience!
