I love this hotel. Stayed for 1 night and the room was clean, beds set up real nicely, and the bathroom was very fancy. Went to sleep on one of the very comfy beds and was overall a great night. To finish the experience, we had a yummy free breakfast at their buffet. Easy parking, nice staff, and little store full of snacks! This place easily gets 5 stars.

Google
A Wonderful Stay – Clean, Comfortable, and Welcoming I had an excellent experience at this hotel from the moment I arrived. The entire property is impeccably clean and well-maintained, with a fresh and pleasant scent throughout the common areas and rooms. The hotel itself is stylish, modern, and comfortable, offering a warm and relaxing atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready to assist with a smile, which made the stay feel even more welcoming. I especially appreciated the pool and jacuzzi – both were clean, well-kept, and perfect for unwinding after a long day. If you’re looking for a hotel that combines cleanliness, comfort, and genuinely kind service, this is the place. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to others.

Google
The room we booked was misrepresented online. The website showed hard floors in the premier king suite, but we were given one with dark carpet (I prefer hard floors in hotels for cleanliness; this is why I chose this hotel and room). When we spoke to the front desk to ask about the discrepancy, we were told hard floors are only on the first floor for guests with pets and that the hotel was fully booked. Learning these are pet rooms, we just stayed in our assigned room. Just be aware: the room you get may not match what’s shown online, and I did not see a disclaimer addressing this. The pull out bed was unusable and rickety. The mattress was very thin, the metal frame was crooked and also left many open spaces a child could get harmed on. We ended up not using it & recommend not relying on it for someone to sleep. The train nearby is very noisy, as the hotel is right by it. How often you hear it passing by depends on the day, some are busier than others. Pros: - Hotel is overall very clean and nice, from lobby to rooms. - Premises is quiet. - Free breakfast is a plus. Quality is just okay, but it is nice to have it provided for you. - Staff is friendly. - Parking is easy! - You can walk to beach access in about 15 min stroll pace, and it’s a quick drive to shops/restaurants by the beach. There’s even a little park nearby. - You can borrow beach umbrellas, etc. - Legoland is SO close. - They have their own corner store/gas station. - They put out cookies and milk for an hour, nightly in the lobby. Overall nice experience and convenient location; we just felt tricked about the room. Still unsure if we will return one day, but possibly.

Google
Beautiful hide away & conveniently located just off the freeway. The place has a very charming & homey feel. The staff was friendly and always accommodating. Our entire boys soccer team stayed there with no problems. Definitely worth it!!

Google
Hotel is very clean, very quiet in the room, and staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast had a great variety, and coffee was good. Also, the evening milk and cookies was a treat! Our first night stay, we took an impromptu late evening walk, and ended up at the beach. We were surprised that it was a pretty quick easy walk,

Google
Top notch customer service from all staff members. Housekeeping excellent. Complimentary Breakfast is the best and cookies and milk free every evening. The rooms are super clean and comfortable. The pool is cool but the Jacuzzi is large and hot. Nice workout gym. Restaurants nearby for all meals. This place is Romantic.

Google
Breakfast was good, bed was comfortable. Arrived at 4:45, room wasn’t ready, was put in a different room which smelled stale, we let the front desk know that we would wait for the original room, she then said that would work because I touched the bed and the linens would have to be changed. It wasn’t until after I called the Wyndham vacation club that I was then put in the original non-stale room that all of a sudden was ready. Also there’s a nearby train that you can hear passing. Housekeeping staff were super friendly.

This is a nice hotel situated in a very nice location. The staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfast was good, They even offer milk and cookies in the evening. Staff was lovely, the pool was nice. Fitness room is a bit small. If I'm ever in Carlsbad, I would stay here again.

Yelp
Front desk staff are extremely kind and helpful. Excellent rate quoted over the phone allowed us to cover hotel costs for an amazing guest speaker fur a local event. Room was spacious and very comfortable.

Yelp
Hotel located in the Carlsbad one block from the beach. The hotel is in a pretty and safe area. There is ample parking. There's also a steakhouse and a gas station on the same block. The hotel is also one block from interstate five making it very convenient and easy to get to. The hotel is older, but still nice. If you are on the first floor, you will likely not have a view. Love you out of our window is of a different building just a few feet away. Also, you must keep the air condition on otherwise it will take forever to cool down the room again. The rooms do have a mini fridge and microwave with a little wet bar area. There is not a closet, but there is a large cabinet that you can hang your clothing items in with a safe inside. There is also a small chair and table by the window. The bathroom is nice and has some modern touches. The hotel is next to the train tracks so you will hear the train from time to time but it has not been that bad. Free breakfast in the morning.

Yelp
After 2 nights sleeping on this beautiful hotel, I can confirm that the beds are heavenly delicious. The rooms are beautiful and the hotel is enchanting. If you are looking for a midsize, peaceful, gracefully decorated, conveniently located hotel, the West Inn & Suites is the best choice. What makes this hotel truly remarkable and unforgettable is the carisma and outstanding hospitality of every single staff member. If you stop by, please smile to the housekeeping team, they will smile right back at you and help you out with anything you need. Say hello to Bertha when enjoying her delicious bacon, potatoes and waffles at the breakfast buffet. Say "I will be back" to Shydell who is the best front desk manager I ever met including all the very fancy hotels at have stayed at! Shydell and Bertha: My mom, my sister and I will always remember you both.

Yelp
Just back from a 3-night stay at the West Inn. They were repaving and striping the parking lot so part of the lot was closed off. Assume they were trying to get this done before the Spring and Summer busy season. Parking was fairly easy still. Plus: - Room was clean and generally in good condition. - Quality of the furniture and finishes seemed pretty high. - Quiet room with good sound insulation. We know that we had a next door neighbor and never heard a peep. - Daily breakfast was good; 1/2 step better than most "free" breakfasts at large chain hotels. - Evening milk and cookies is cute idea and a nice detail. Downside: - The premium king room we got was a bit dark. It was a long thin room with only one window on the bedroom end so the living room needed to have lights on 24/7. With the dark wood tone of the furniture, it was a little cave like. - Breakfast room can get messy with families and kids. It was only moderately busy when we stayed so can imagine it getting pretty chaotic during the busy times. Overall a good stay and West Inn seems well suited for a family stay.

Yelp
Wow! If I could give this place, ten stars, I totally would. I've been to a lot of hotels in this category, and this is by far the best. First, when you walk in the door, the place smells great. I don't know what they do but it's absolutely delightful. It's the small things that really stand out there. The staff is amazing. Everybody. From the person that you meet when you walk in the door to the person who takes care of your room, to the person who helps you with breakfast. Everybody is friendly and helpful. It's like one big happy family. The rooms are great. Nothing fancy but very clean and definitely a step up from a lot of hotels in this category. They have cookies and milk at 8 PM every night in the lobby! Did I mention the special little touches? And finally, the breakfast is divine. Often times when a breakfast comes with your room, it is a pastry wrapped in plastic or a box of Cheerios. They serve a full breakfast. One day there were biscuits and gravy. They seem to regularly have eggs, potatoes, bacon , oatmeal, cereal, and fruit. The coffee is good. It's all served buffet style. Honestly, I wish chain hotels could meet the standard of the boutique hotel. I absolutely loved my stay, and if I'm ever back in this area, I will definitely be back. Highest recommendation!

Yelp
Great hotel near Legoland with lots of food options around. We had the double king suite and we absolutely loved the size. It was roomy, comfortable and my kids loved the space. The pool is small but it was nice and they had lots of floaties available. They have a delicious breakfast buffet included in the room. The best part for my kids was the cookies and milk at 8pm. Such an awesome treat. We will definitely be back! Such a great experience. Staff was so nice and helpful.

Yelp
Wow, I'm extremely impressed with this place. Never judge a book by its cover. I initially thought that this place was going to be horrible and the Yelp reviews were all lies because the hotel was located right off the freeway and next to a gas station. Once you enter into the lobby, you will immediately notice a flowery scent throughout the hotel. It smells like the Polynesian Resort at Disney World. So, it gave me strong Disney vibes. The decor is really up-to-date as well. Pretty fancy to be honest. The rooms are also very up-to-date. Seems like it was recently remodeled, like new. Too bad we didn't have much of a view. Our view was just the underground parking garage. Haha! Speaking of the parking garage; it's huge! And for some reason, not many people were parking there. It's perfect, especially on rainy days. It rained the whole time during our stay, so we couldn't enjoy their swimming pool and outdoor ping pong table. Complimentary breakfast is served from 6:30 am - 9:30am every morning. I swear, I think there's only 2 people running that kitchen. And there's a lot of food to go around. Very impressed of how clean it is at the cafeteria and the library (this where you find tables to eat at). Overall, West Inn & Suites exceeded my expectations. They have an amazing staff. It's located less than 2 miles from Legoland. There's even a steakhouse called Polo, located just right outside of the hotel. Definitely would recommend this location to anyone. Can't wait to stay here again.

Yelp
Recently stayed here for a couple nights and I'll start off by saying it's very well kept! However, it's not as close to the beach as it seems online. It's a good 5 min drive, which is fine, but I was under the assumption it was a little closer based off photos advertised. They have a nightly cookie hour which I thought was super cute & was definitely a hit with all the children in the hotel. Very family friendly & all the staff I had spoken to from the front desk, kitchen staff, down to house keepers were so kind. They have a daily continental breakfast, and to my surprise, had a handful of options to choose from. However, I felt like even going down at 7:30am, the "hot" food was cold, so unless you're there right after it opens, you might need to heat your food up in the microwave. The only big negative for me was the train that's runs close by. It is SO loud, and even runs around midnight, so if you're bothered by loud noises in your sleep, this might be problematic. Overall, I'd stay here again for the convenience of location and amenities, but definitely bring some ear plugs.

Yelp
My family & I enjoyed our stay at West Inn. We loved that it is close to LEGOLAND, the beach, and restaurants. The staff were nice, our rooms were clean, and our kids absolutely loved the cookies & milk at 8pm. They offer breakfast starting at 6:30am- one of our favorites so far! Would recommend especially if you're traveling with little ones.

Yelp
This was a really nice stay. We had a wonderful time, and the staff was very accommodating. We used the pool (which is not heated, unfortunately), the hot tub (which was nice and hot), the breakfast (which was a full meal with eggs, potatoes, sausage and/or ham, biscuits and gravy, and lots more!), and I had my grandkids come spend the night. The hotel has a lovely area on the second floor where we hung out and ate and played games. It is close to Oceanside Marina and the Pier is a few miles away, too.

Yelp
We loved our stay here. We live local and had a night away from the kids for our anniversary. We decided to opt out of crazy prices this year to be on the beach. I am super picky and rarely sleep well at hotels. We were here on a Tuesday which likely is why it was so quiet. We laid at the pool for hours the first day. The loungers are amazing and have cushions. The pool is not heated which was a bummer but the spa is great. The rooms are super clean and beds are very comfy. The staff is super kind. The breakfast is awesome with hot foods. Truly can't beat the price.

Ryan T.

Yelp
Rooms and grounds are very nice. Comfortable beds and nice amenities. The location is nice and safe. The breakfast was not good. Cold eggs and bland potato's with sugary treats.

Yelp
Absolutely stunning place! Clean, safe, and great place to spend the night. Pricey? It's all relevant on whom we ask but for me worth every penny. Breakfast was delicious super Clean and welcoming

Yelp
We really enjoyed our stay at West Inn & Suites. The front desk staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. They were able to check us in early, which was extremely helpful. The hotel is very clean and beautiful. The rooms were updated, clean and the beds were comfortable. We enjoyed the cookies and milk in the evening. The hot tub was great. They include a hot breakfast buffet and it was very good. We will be back!

Yelp
You get the opinion this was once a nice resort. The staff and management try their best but there is so much deferred maintenance. The rooms are spacious and quiet but the common areas need serious makeovers. Pool and spa areas acceptable but spa switch doesn't work. Plenty of free parking but the hotel isn't near anything except the train tracks.

Yelp
I've stayed at the West Inn six times now, and the place has definitely gone downhill since the first time I visited in 2014. I'm not sure if its changed management (the resort was owned by women, and I am not sure if this is the case now), but it is evident the current owners don't have the passion and love that the previous owners had to take care of their guests. First, the hotel is not fixing things--tons of problems everywhere you looked. Many of the doors had notes on them that your key wouldn't work, so find another door to get in; the central air was broken? At least in my room it was--my room had a portable AC unit that took up most of the window space and blew as much hot air as it did cold air, and none of the windows would open, so the room was hot and stuffy. The Laundromat door on our floor would not open. The key card wouldn't work, so we had to use the laundry on a different floor. The room needs refurbishing--many items coming apart, from wallpaper to paint. Also, the staff used to be engaging with guests. Now, they barely greet you when you check in. The staff made no mention of the amenities like beach items they'll let you borrow (like chairs, pails and umbrellas) or social hour (maybe they don't offer it now). There were no pool towels or plastic cups and water at the pool like they used to have. But the biggest disappointment was that although their whirlpool was filled with water, the water was luke warm and the jets were broken - what's the point? Either fix it or take it out of service. On a positive note, their included hot breakfast is still great. Unfortunately, I'll be looking for a new Carlsbad hotel for yearly visits.

Yelp
First day of check in 10/7/23 To be honest I was not expecting a 4 star hotel. Going based on the reviews I was hoping for at least a 3 star hotel. First arrived to my room and it hit me and my family with a foul odor. Very disappointing. Ignoring the stench we were to tired to make a big deal with the smell of urine and decided it was too late to find another place. Upon doing our routine we have sewage come up out of the sink and smelled so terrible. I had to go to front desk but of course there's no other room he can move us to. To be honest I would not recommend this type of establishment to anyone. It's very unsanitary and not well kept.

Yelp
Clean and quiet. Our room was right in front of the breakfast area, and we didn't hear a thing during breakfast time. Hot breakfast, free cookies and milk from 8pm to 9pm and free parking.

Yelp
My husband and I stay at The West Inn Suites over the Labor Day weekend celebrating our 30th wedding Anniversary. Checked in our room the room was humid and musty. Checked the AC advised the air wasn't working. We were offered fan in which one of the fan were so loud we had to turn it off. We asked for another room and was told the were all booked. I spoke with the manager Vikki Armonio and was advised there was nothing she could do about due to We went through hotels.com to reserve the room. Called Corp to date no returned call. Thanks West Inn Suites for ruining our 30th wedding anniversary.

Yelp
Stopped here for our Lego Land visit. The staff gets 5 stars for being friendly and welcoming. Couple of things needs to be updated and fixed. Outside pool shower was not in working condition and the pool umbrellas didn't work. Overall was a pleasant stay.

Yelp
See my previous reviews. As of 8/10/2023, Apple Card (Goldman Sachs) credited me back in full. Needless to say, my days of staying with West Inn & Suites are done.

Yelp
This is hidden gem. We were looking for the best day for a conference we had to attend. This one stood out as people talked about their breakfast, free parking, free Wi-fi and cookies and milk every night ;) Room was super clean and a good size. We did the King bed room. And did the floor with no pets. Pool was heated, staff super nice and kind. Breakfast was amazing, parking was easy. Great location perfect for families. We are for sure coming back here!

Georgetta V.

Yelp
Great place to stay! Shydell and Malou at the front desk were very helpful with the checking in-out process and info of the area. The Inn is actually a boutique hotel with great things to offer - like: comfortable and clean beds, very clean sand tasteful decorated - an old charm. Free breakfast- great choices, nice environment/dining area and clean! Ask Bertha and Maria they are very helpful and hard working ladies! Great free parking and Wi-Fi lovely evening time with complementary milk and cookies close to everything- best location! Pool, jacuzzi... Definitely will go back!
google avatar

Robin I.

Yelp
What a gem... If you're looking for a competitively priced stay with a suite near Legoland this is a great option. Less than 5 minute drive to the park it's location is a little hidden but there is a lot of perks to this quaint place. The rooms are mostly suites and there is a space for people to move around and about. Also the beds are pretty comfortable but some of the furniture could use a thorough cleaning. They included free breakfast that's not just continental and they give milk and cookies in the evening. There is a little pool and jacuzzi and parking is plenty. The one potential knock is that it is close to the railroad so I can imagine if people get a room close to that side it would be annoying. Service here is friendly and the price is tough to beat. Nice.

W. T.

Yelp
This inn is a good value - the rooms are clean and quiet, the free breakfast is very good, and the entire inn has a classy feel. So why only 3 stars? Two reasons: a. the customer service is hit or miss. Some staff are helpful while others are rude. This implies poor or inconsistent training, since if they had a good training program, the level of service would be consistent b. they didn't return our deposit even after we called to ask. Now, the amount of the deposit that is above the room fee is small and we can afford the loss. But that's not the point. If your guests have left your room in good shape and there are no issues (as was the case for us), then you should return their deposit. It's for these two reasons that a 5 star review has become a 3 star review, and that's a pity.

Richard K.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel with very clean rooms and priced right. Very charming hidden jewel right off I-15 in Carlsbad. The maids actually came in and made the beds and straightened the room up.

Yelp
January 13, 2023... we arrived earlier then expected around 11 am. Greater with a warm smile, they were happy to accommodate us right away. This place is a gem. There's a cozy library area, the entrance is inviting with a seating lounge up the stairs. Wonderful heated pools and most of all breakfast included from 7 am to 9:30 am everyday. There's even a night cap cookies and milk in the evenings from 8 pm to 9 pm... Quiet and family friendly, comfortable rooms! I highly recommend this hotel

Yelp
We booked this hotel based on the great reviews and bc it was close to Legoland and pet friendly (supposedly). When we get there I see the pet policy states that at no time should we leave the dogs unattended in the room. I ask the front desk about this bc we intended to go to Legoland the next day and come back in a few hours to check on the dogs. She just states yes, you cannot leave them that is our policy. I ask them how do people stay here with their pets and go to Legoland? She later goes and talks to someone and says they will allow it so long as if someone complains we cover the costs of their discount. How much?! There is no written agreement of this nor would they give me any ballpark amount of the costs. They were not trying to be helpful or accommodating at all. My dogs don't bark and are small and stay home mostly. The risk of them doing something is low but we were so appalled at the attitude of this place. We did end up checking in bc we didn't know what to do and we had driven 8 hours and had two dogs and two small kids with us (mistake on our part). In the end we decided to just eat the cost of the one night stay and just leave since we found a hotel right on the beach that was much better. The other hotel said they would never charge us for anyone else's complaints. This is a normal practice for any real hotel that is "pet friendly". Animal noises may occur! No amount of free cookies can replace professionalism and knowing how to run a business. This play may be your cup of tea if you had no dogs and want to feel like you have a good deal. The hotel we booked was cheaper per night but had parking fees but in the end the price was about the same. The feel of our new hotel was more upscale and had a much nicer pool (Cape Rey Carlsbad) I would not recommend this place nor Expedia since they were not helpful in getting us a refund.

Yelp
This place is an absolute steal if a deal. You walk in and instantly feel like you're in a high end hotel. Beautiful entry way and excellent customer service. The hotel rooms are very big, clean and comfy. The only downside is that some items do seem to be out of date. For instance, majority of hotel now have bedside lamps with USB plugs, however this hotel does not. But if the biggest complaint is the type of lamps they have... it's not really much of a complaint at all. Will hands down be staying hear again and again. Also, they're extremely pet friendly and parking is included in room fees!

Yelp
We stayed here for two nights during our Easter weekend trip to Carlsbad. Carlsbad is a pretty small city so if you have a car its really easy to get around. West Inn & Suites is very close to Legoland, The Flower Fields, Carlsbad Premium Outlets, Tamarack (Carlsbad) Beach, and yes a short drive to Carlsbad Village. I'm rating 5 stars due to excellent service, amenities, and sheer comfort. RESORT FEES Yes, its not just Vegas adopting this annoying practice but LA and now Carlsbad too. However, $20/day is tolerable for free self-parking, breakfast buffet, courtesy shuttle, fast and free wifi, and cookies at night. LOCATION Its funny but the hotel is located next to West Gas, West Steaks and Seafood, and West Mart. Everything so close if you need any sundries and great for fueling up the rental car before heading to the airport. ROOMS Bed was super soft and comfy. Spacious bathrooms with powerful shower. Lots of storage space and even a DVD player, though these days most folks stream or use the free in-room Cable TV. GYM Small but decent. Single bench with dumbbells up to 30lb only but a multi-purpose cable machine for you to go heavier. They also have an outdoor pool and outdoor table tennis. BREAKFAST Reasonably good for hotels - oatmeal, eggs, sausage, yogurt, pastries, and even cinnamon bun/bread-pudding like dish. Would have been nice for waffles and pancakes. Definitely a comfortable and pleasant stay. The hotel is pretty spacious but just has two floors.
google avatar

Yelp
Would give no stars if yelp allowed it. This has been our regular spring break hotel spot for the last 4 years. Never coming back again. Checked in and the room had a flimsy dirty showerhead with gunk on it, dirty vents, broken outlet, non-working tv, broken deadbolt.. that's just the beginning! We were on the 3rd floor where all the rooms had dirty trash outside their doors (diapers and food) and there was a empty 13 gallon trashbag stinking up the ice machine. They moved us to a different room the next day, same thing, dirty trash out in the halls, they put us in a ADA compliant room (why?? 1 adult and 2 kids), this one had a bathroom sink that didn't drain, a shower with no water pressure (the pressure at the outdoor shower by the pool had better pressure), oh and I had to make the beds for us because, guess what?! they didn't bother with fitted sheets so when my kids moved around, all the sheets came out! Also, I believe pre-pandemic, they started charging $100 on your card for "incidentals" plus a "amenities fee". Well, owner of West Inn and Suites, if you're going to charge an "amenities fee" you should have your pool heated like it says it is on your website. False advertising, really bad breakfast, poor service (Mon a.m. manager was beyond rude) and neglect all over the property, even the restrooms by check in were disgusting and outdated. Posting this on trip advisor, expedia, travelocity and hotels.com for all the non-yelpers. I wish I could get a damn refund for our stay. What a horrible vacation.

Yelp
Noelle's Yelp Notebook 2019 *Be sure to request a feather free room if you have down allergies *Be sure to request a dedicated room that is pet free. *Super close to Legoland. *Faint train noise in the evening. *Close to a power plant. West Inn & Suites is located uber close to Legoland. Winter Break 2019 (third week in February) we headed down from San Jose to Southern, California. Saw my Yelp friend write a review on West Inn & Suites and decided it would be a good place to stay the day before we headed to Legoland. Parking is free (awesome) Staff is friendly (yay) Hotel rooms are uber clean (super) Milk & Cookies evening (no nuts, yay for allergies) Check in was simple, we arrived around 8 p.m. just in time for milk and cookies in the foyer. Hubs checked us in and parked the car. Our son partook of the milk and cookies they offer every evening. Our room wasn't feather free so they sent someone up to change the linens. One of the bed sheets had holes, so they changed it. We could hear the faint sound of the train a few times in the evening. Didn't hear any other families or loudness in the hallways- it was obvious we lucked out with respectful neighbors around and above our hotel room. The breakfast is part of the resort fee. They had muffins, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, fresh fruits, coffee, juice. Nothing looked appetizing so our son had a muffin and my hubs and I had coffee. Front Desk staff in the evening and the morning were friendly and helpful! It's probably one of the cleanest non fancy hotels that we've stayed at and you wouldn't know that they had pets in the hotel at all as they must have an excellent ventilation system. Pet dedicated rooms are normally on the first floor. An added bonus is they have an office area with computers and a printer. We needed to print out our Legoland stuff and the office definitely came in handy. Noelle's Notes Super clean hotel Excellent customer service Pet friendly rooms If you're allergic ask for a feather free bedding

Yelp
I came here looking for a local getaway and West Inn was everything I wanted and needed. The pool was open and I had it all to myself which was amazing. My room had everything I wanted from a microwave to a very cold refrigerator. The bed was very comfy, the room was clean and for a basic room it was pretty big with a desk and nice size chair. The location is pretty good because it's close to the shopping outlets, the beach, Karl Strauss and the 5 freeway. Which I didn't hear any freeway noise and I was very surprised by that anyway this is a solid hotel in my book.

Yelp
Two stars for clean room at check in. Not happy with check in process. The manager ran my card without much notification and blocked my card for the whole three days. Then they didn't charge for deposit after they said they did and all set! We put some snacks on room and called up to my room harassing me for my card to pay... I I have never gone through that in any of the hotels in member see that. You pay for all of your services when you check out. The pool was nice, but the grounds were not maintained. It looks like they had a fountain of some sort but the bottom of the fountain was just algae and sludge, so it had some smell. If you sat over there. The breakfast was great, but the hotel guests were just rude and pushy, as if they've never eaten food before. Not the hotels fault but just attracted that type of person. It was a Fine experience, but will be looking for other places to stay at .

Yelp
It's not fair to compare the hotel to what it used to be but many of the reviews here reflect the excellence of prior ownership and management. We've been staying here for over a decade. This review is from the perspective of a parent who has had many fond memories with my kids. Unfortunately, the service is no longer stellar. They promised to call when a room was made available, they didn't. We arrived anyway and were told multiple rooms were available. The pool isn't heated anymore. They don't even have towels. I asked for towels at the front desk and was given medium sized bathroom towels, it didn't even cover my 11 yo. The breakfast has far fewer choices, no more bread pudding, no more pastries, eggs were rubbery, and hash browns soggy. They still serve cookies every night at 8p. Sadly, the cookies aren't freshly made anymore. Lastly, NO MORE SHUTTLE TO LEGOLAND. I saw front staff cleaning rooms and later, cooking breakfast. A hotel this size shouldn't be run like a mom and pop operation. Lots of things changed after the pandemic. Not sure if this place will ever bounce back to what it was. Beyond the familiar facade, the hotel dynamic has changed. The service is mediocre and the little things that made it great is no longer... Not for return travelers expecting excellence.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed here for a few nights. Location is great, it's literally right down the road from Legoland, 30 min from downtown SD, close to sea world and the SD Zoo and several beaches as well as many other desirable places. Aside from that, the rooms are average, but for the price point I was very pleased. They had a fridge, microwave, iron and coffee maker all in the room which was nice because many places don't or charge extra for those amenities. They also serve free breakfast and serve cookies and milk each night. Which definitely isn't a make or break by any means but is still a nice little bonus. They also have their own restaurant which was unfortunately temporary closed. And their own gas station, which was medium in price compared to other gas stations in the area, but it was nice that they had it on their property for convenience.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING!! Seriously!! I came here with my wife for a weekend baby moon not far from home. It didn't disappoint!! Hot breakfast every morning 630-930 (weekdays) and 630-10 weekends! DVDs you can borrow for a movie night in with a huge variety of G rated-R rated. The rooms are immaculate and the service is beyond friendly and accommodating. They give you complimentary water bottles (two) the first night and then after that you have to buy your own. I'd suggest going to the gas station within walking distance from the hotel. They have a lovely restaurant within walking distance for a date night. Seriously a 5 Star place that's amazing for happy hour 430-7. The hotel has a tiny gym with basics--one treadmill, one step machine, one elliptical and some free weights. They also have a pool. Close to Legoland, this place was busy with children this weekend. So it's a great value in my opinion if you want a getaway with amazing amenities. My favorite is that at 8pm every night they serve milk and cookies. The kids and adults alike come down from their rooms in pjs to eat cookies in the lovely "library"/breakfast area and then mosey on back up to their rooms. HIGHLY recommend this place!!

Yelp
For a quick weekend trip to San Diego & Legoland, this hotel worked out beautifully for our family. It was super clean & fresh, our room was quiet, the hot tub was big & extra relaxing, the staff members were helpful & kind, and the continental breakfast was fine enough. We were really happy with our stay here!

Yelp
We stayed here for my birthday week on February. The experience was great! We loved it and this would be our "go-to" hotel in Carlsbad. Service, staff, cleanliness 5 Star! Oh and they have their own gas station and restaurant as well! Then I tried to book again this week, unfortunately their website says get 2 rooms, get 1 free. Screenshot it, let my husband know, he requested it off immediately. I accidentally closed the browser and when I came back, it was gone. I emailed and waited, and no reply. So I called. The man on the other line was very helpful unfortunately they discontinued the offer. We will now be in the process of looking elsewhere, hoping for a good same quality hotel nearby.

Yelp
For a trip to legoland. The family and I decided to give this place a try. Overall - The family and I really enjoyed staying here. It was very easy to find, and it wasn't as expensive given what we got in for the room size and the amenities. Free general parking and they're located either at the front or in the back. We parked in the back it was right next to the elevator.. so it made it quick and easy to haul our stuff. This place has 3 floors and an underground garage - but was closed when we went. They got a pool that's open but the jacuzzi wasn't working. Fitness Center was clean, and they got a little snack shop next to the front desk (a little pricey for me - just walk a little ways to the gas station which is literally next door. The best part of this is that they offer free breakfast! They room itself was decent - we opted for the 2 queen bed room.. and usually those types of rooms isn't a whole lot to work with. But it had enough space for a workstation.. a comfy chair and it did have a decent size refrigerator and a microwave and a small sink! Bathroom was also a good size - Wasn't a bathtub but a large shower... and they got a 2 tier safe in the one of the closet and also a an iron and ironing board. Room was clean - didn't smell - and couldn't hear anyone upstairs, outside, or next to us. More than likely stay here again!

Yelp
Stayed there this weekend (10/13-10/14). Arrived to the hotel late in the night & tired. We showered and went straight to bed. The next morning we get up and notice the blanket we slept with had mold. We went down to the front desk to show the staff the blanket. The man at the front desk apologized & took the blanket. He told us to call at 3pm to speak to a manager about the issue. At check out, i went to go speak to the front desk again but it was a different receptionist. She had also apologized & confirmed the blanket had mold and said how she had to "grab the blanket with gloves bc it was disgusting"'. She was very nice. She told us she can't help with much since she was not a manager but she could take off the $20 amenity fee. Called back multiple times that evening but no answer. After the 5th time calling, i finally was able to speak to a manager(Malou). She was very rude and kept cutting me off while i was trying to explain what had happened. She said she would take off the amenity fee(which the earlier receptionist already told us she did) but that was all she could do since we booked through a third party website. She then put me on hold to actually go look at the blanket and told me she would be emailing me on Monday with pictures after she "cuts the blanket to show me the inside". At first i really liked the hotel but not so much after the blanket issue and the conversation with the manager.

Yelp
I stayed here several years ago and overall it was an okay experience. However, for several months after my stay, they kept charging my card for another guest that was staying there. They claimed it kept happening because it was the same last 4 digits of the card number. The last time I had called was probably around Covid and I was saddened to see another charge during challenging times. I could not afford a charge like this at the time. They claimed that they fixed the issue and it wouldn't happen again. Every time I called they reversed it but this is just a hassle at this point. TODAY, YEARS LATER, there was another charge on my card. I do not even know how it would be possible to charge still. I have gotten a new card with new expiration date and security code since then. I do not understand how they can keep charging my card for someone else's reservations! And they can tell me is that they are sorry and they don't know how it happened.

Yelp
Worst service. I left an item in the room and within TWO hours they couldn't tell me where it was. Upon calling, they sent someone in to check and immediately the answer was that it was not in the room. Conveniently they had no cameras to play back that I brought the item in to my room but never left with it. The staff was unapologetic and offered no solutions. It was terrible! Be very careful leaving valuables behind this hotel steals!

Yelp
I like that the place was CLEAN and QUIET and dog friendly and really close to Carlsbad beach.. But there were a lot of little issues that added up to the fact that we probably won't be back. First, the amenities.. the hot tub wasn't working, and there was no breakfast or food available on the premise. The steak house across the street was closed indefinitely. The room itself was super outdated and the manual a/c controller didn't work. The bed was the most uncomfortable mattress I've ever slept on. They also charged a $75 fee for being so dog friendly.. seems like this place has a lot of potential, but no one is putting in effort to keep it up.

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay at West Inn! Our room was clean, the beds and pillows were very comfortable, and the value for the price was excellent, especially when compared with some other places we stayed during our trip. Staff was all excellent. Milk and cookies were a nice treat in the evening. The hotel has beach chairs, beach umbrellas, sand toys, boogie boards, etc, which they lend out. We were thankful to not have to pack any of that to bring with us! The pool was heated and the hot tub was a great temp, BUT they both seemed in need of cleaning, especially the hot tub. The air conditioning was super loud, and not in a pleasant way, so we adjusted the thermostat to make sure it didn't have to run much. Not a huge deal, but maybe something they could address. Other than the AC, it was a very quiet stay, and we would definitely stay there again. Oh, final thing is I read they have a DVD lending library, and we hyped our kids up for family movie night...unfortunately they no longer have DVD players. Not the end of the world, but just something to be aware of.

Yelp
Subpar, riddled with problems. Came here for a soccer tourney. The food from their associated restaurant has a very limited menu. Ie., no meat burgers, only soy burgers. Once we finally got to the room after a delayed check in we discovered there was no internet, and the heat would not work. I was supposedly comped for the Internet, but when it finally connected I still had to pay around $15 for 10mbps (the 3mbps) is "the standard speed for rooms. The only reason we haven't just packed up is the employees are spectacular. From the valets- maid service. They have been beyond words. Super friendly; to bad the facilities can't keep that pace, this place would be an easy 5 stars.
