West Virginia International Yeager Airport

The airport is small but very friendly. Bathrooms are extremely clean and the rental car station is in the baggage claim area. Everything was seamless and I was out of the airport in 15 minutes with my rental.

What a neat little airport, way at the top of the mountain. So easy and quick to get in and out, and prices to fly here were cheaper than larger airports. I love the efficient and clean bathrooms. Free parking for 20 minutes while you pick up or drop off. They had 2 vending machines that I saw for snacks and drinks but I didn't see other food. Not much in the way of seating outside of the security area.

This airport is really easy to make your way through it and all the staff I've encountered were very helpful and pleasant

Amazing little airport. Easy in and easy out... Fantastic for travel! Very little time needed to get through.

I fly in here 2-3 times a year. My bags were lost the first time and they were so helpful even driving my bags 90 minutes away to me the next day. Friendly staff, easy check-in, clean airport.

Its a really nice airport, small but well maintained, plenty of seating, and if you are retired military or still serving, they have a lounge for you and your family. Overall, great airport to use.

We landed here. They are in the process of renewing the airport It's small but efficient. My luggage came out pretty quick Only thing now: they are renovating the toilets on the first level. And they dont have enough alternative restrooms on the first level as a result A nice gentleman working there pointed me in the direction of another restroom another level up in their office Thank you kind sir!

Wow this airport in Charleston WV is the tiniest international airport ever! It had like 8 gates and only one bar/restaurant. One bathroom with 3 stalls. One gift shop with convenience/souvineer items. All the employees worked for the airport not just the airline (even at check in). TSA was so bored. We returned a rental car and zoomed in to take a Delta flight. There is a water bottle filter by the bathroom. Just such a small place so you won't get lost but eat and fill your rental car before coming here. It's off the same exit as the Capitol and then up the mountain.

Small airport. very easy to get around to and get from point A to point B. Very clean and well kept and good knowledge staff and very comfy seats :) will definitely be flying here again!

CRW is an easy airport to get in and out of, which makes travel pretty stress-free. It's small, so navigating through check-in, security, and boarding is quick and straightforward. While there aren't a ton of destination options, it's decent for regional travel. The laid-back vibe and simplicity make it a solid choice for convenient flying.

A nice quiet airport. It has direct flights to D.C., Atlanta, and Charlotte with American Airlines.

Very small airport which means very easy to navigate! It was relatively empty upon both our arrival and departure. Car rental agencies are located in the baggage claim area . There is one baggage claim so it may take a minute to get your luggage. Upon departing it took us less than ten minutes to drop our luggage and get through TSA security checkpoint. Zero lines at luggage drop and security. There is an ATM in front of gate B2. There is a shoe shine at gate B1. There is a gift shop and two bars within the small B terminal . There is a super cute free book exchange (like a little free library ) by the restrooms near gate B1. There is a military lounge but NO other lounges at this airport. Our experience was pretty seamless so I would gladly fly through here again :-)

Made to wait 10 minutes for Delta check-in while 1 of only 2 desk clerks for all airlines waited for a couple to use their laptop to compare flights and the other desk clerk was checking in United customers. Then I'm told I have to be rescheduled because the check-in time was 5 minutes ago (while I was standing in line). Had to rearrange my entire day because the airport is understaffed. Also, self-check-in kiosk never appear to be operating. Tri-State Airport (1 hour away) is better or save money and fly out of super efficient Columbus Airport (2.5 hours away).

Staff are friendly and helpful. There is a gift ship and a bar and grill PAST security. There are NO food options BEFORE security. Reviews mentioning Tudors and Gino's are at least five years out of date. At The Junction, I just had the BLT sub and split it with the Colonel. It was good, the right size for a light meal for two, with fresh lettuce, tomato, and mayo, and a roll they put in the panini press. The bacon was perfect, and the bartender told us it was "made with love." The gift shop has a good variety. Earlier today (it's been a long day), we had the chicken salad and cranberries sandwich, which was good. They have cute West Virginia merch, including pajamas with bear paws. There are possibly two bars, but I'm not seeing the second one staffed right now, though it looks like it's still in service? That one is Java Moon Cafe.

It's pretty small for International Airport but the staff is friendly and the place is clean. Not a lot of outlets along the window stay in the American Airline area, but i found one and claimed it since i was going to be here for several hours. Got to meet Hercules the Wildlife Patrol. He definitely made my day. The Tsa area is small and quick to get through. Small bar but big enough to get a drink to help pass the travel time.

Small airport with super friendly staff! My flight was for 6am so I didn't get to see much of the exterior of the airport. Being used to the Atlanta airport the whole experience was so otherworldly. LOL I checked in with Delta at a kiosk since I didn't have any luggage. Going through security was too fast I felt like I was doing it wrong. It probably took less than five minutes for me to walk in the door and get to my gate. Awesome! The security and TSA were great. Everyone was very friendly. Being used to Atlanta's service of getting yelled at continuously, it was a nice change. Being a small airport the ticket prices are higher. My one way flight back home took about an hour and was a little over $400 but it was worth it for me. My brother will also be playing football for UNC so he will be making those flights regularly in the future. Glad it will be with a fine running airport like Yaegar International Airport!

West Virginia International Yeager Airport - CRW got some fancy new TSA equipment This is the best security team on earth, they've got lots of people here setting up @ training but the flow was still quick & easy... and as usual they hand checked my plants with care (I always arrive plenty early & let people skip in front of me because I don't want to hold up the line) the tiny little bar here is always staffed with the friendliest people too!

I've been here several times but I've never noticed this memorial that is here for Yeager. Pretty cool though. The airport was super clean and pretty empty but it was nice

Very uncrowded airport, small with only a few gates. Parking and rental cars on sight. There are no amenities outside of security, but security lines were short and inside they have a small grill, a gift shop, a bar and a children's play area. Upstairs is very uncrowded, the boarding area downstairs is a lot more congested but still serviceable- wait upstairs until your flight is about to be called. Free wi-fi.

" -- (Levon Helm's opening narration of "The Right Stuff") One of my all-time favorite movies is "The Right Stuff", the 1983 epic about the early days of America's space program and the Navy, Marine and Air Force pilots that became the Mercury Astronauts. But as heroic and courageous as the exploits of Alan Shepard, John Glenn, Gordon Cooper and the rest were, one of the eras greatest test pilots wasn't even considered for the program because he wasn't a college graduate, or as the movie said "he didn't fit the profile". That man was West Virginia's Brigadier General Chuck Yeager of the US Air Force. He was a war hero and flew dozens of WW II combat missions in Europe, was shot down over France, escaped to Spain, and flew more missions. After the war he became an Air Force test pilot and in 1947 became the first pilot to exceed Mach One and break the sound barrier. Yeager Airport in Charleston, WV is one of the more interesting airports I've ever seen. As you fly into it, you basically land on the top of a flattened mountain. The airport website said they used 2,000,000 pounds of explosives and removed 9,000,000 cubic yards of earth and rock to excavate what would become the airport grounds and runways. There's a gorgeous sculpture of the airport's namesake inside the airport. American, Delta Air Lines, Spirit, and United Airlines fly to eleven major cities out of Charleston.

Easy checking in process. Very friendly staff and affordable parking. Overall, good experience with this airport.

I'm thinking this is the second smallest US airport that I've experienced, after Lynchburg VA. There are three "terminals" but it's a bit laughable. But with that said, there's nothing wrong with small airports if they have decent aircraft servicing them and on that note, Yeager currently has one Airbus 319 that comes in at 10:00 PM from Atlanta, stays the night, and is then the morning departure. The rest of the flights are regional jets or the US Airways turboprop to Charlotte. Free wifi in the terminals is awesome and there are a few power outlets to be found. And they now have TSA Pre-Check. What's not to love?

I wish every airport was like this.. kind of. The definition of one stop shop. As soon as you deplane, there in one baggage carousel. One. You can't miss it. Next to the carousel, you will find your rental car counters. Proceed out the door, and you will find your car and drive directly out. That simple. Flying out of here is also a dream. Three ticket counters, that's it. No lines. I had four TSA agents all to myself, and for a quick second wondered to myself if this is what it feels like to be Kim Kardashian. My connecting flight had a good chance of getting cancelled, so the agent booked me on a Delta flight instead, without me even asking. You can also purchase mangoritas in the can (depending on who you are that may be a plus or minus) at the snack bar.

Definitely on the smaller side when it comes to airports. There are only about 10 gates total. Security is super quick because I doubt this airport ever gets crowded. On the inside there is only 1 option for food that didn't look great so I would recommend eating prior to arriving or bringing food in. There is also a small store to buy snacks/books/magazines but there isn't a lot of selection. Very clean airport and all the employees who work there were very nice, friendly and helpful! Watch out if there is bad weather or delays because the chances of another flight going out on the same day with any mechanical or weather issue is pretty slim. If stuck in the area, stay at the Charleston Marriott Town Center!

I only recommend Piedmont which is the American Airlines puddle jumper out of Charleston. I admit missing our flight was my fault technically however, we were there 45 minutes ahead of time. The desk agent would not take our luggage, just two bags. My mother has lung cancer and we are traveling to Phoenix, AZ for her treatments. She said the cut off time for luggage is 42 minutes before departure. Excuse me but we were standing in line!!! I am absolutely shocked at the lack of professionalism and compassion this woman has. This is why people in WV drive to larger cities and catch flights. I would rather pay to park my vehicle in Columbus or Pittsburgh for two months than deal with "witches" who feel they hold all the power because she thinks she can do or even make up rules as she goes. I didn't throw a fit but am now at 4:30 am heading back to the CRW airport. Can you believe she had the nerve to ask if we could travel without our luggage. Sure what am I supposed to wear for two or more months!!!

No one is around for car rental return. I had to carry all my stuff, (I had a car full) across a parking lot, up an elevator, across a room, up to the counter to ask what to do. I was told by a snotty woman at the counter that I had to go back downstairs snd bring the keys back up, put them in a drop box. No paperwork was completed, and when I asked about that, the snotty woman at the counter said she didn't work for the company that was closed, and that was that. She was most unhelpful, in all ways possible. Should be in a different job, I was one of only three people, total, in this place besides employees and she still failed to be of service. There are NO luggage racks to use. There is no help whatsoever with luggage. Another woman, waiting with her husband helped me with my things so I could walk to the bathroom. This place is a shithole.

This small airport serves the greater Charleston area and pretty much the entire state. There are only about 5 commercial airlines that come here. It's a pretty simple design. They have a self-serve scale to weigh your luggage, a military members lounge, an observation deck, ticketing level deck with rocking chairs, baggage claim, rental car area, kids play area by Gate B2, gift/snack shop, and a bar/cafe near B gate. The few A gates and the few C gates, which are Tarmac or Level 1, do not have any dining options, only a Coke machine. Outside security is a cafe which is the best bet for food options, although it's not a true restaurant. The Tudor's biscuit world appears to be gone. If you plan to spend any amount of time here, I suggest to eat before you come.

This has to be the worst airport in the states. I can't believe how long it took them to release our luggage. Flying out of here was also the worst. They had us stuck in the airplane for over an hour, before even taking off. I will NEVER be coming here again. I'd rather fly into Columbus and drive to Charleston.

The price for a flight into Yeager sucks, there is no doubt about that...BUT..this is one of the least stressful airports to fly out of in America. On a Monday morning, between 5:50 and 6:10 AM I was able to return my rental car, grab two biscuits from Tudors, get through security and make it to my gate. 20 minutes! At every other airport I fly into returning the car and the shuttle ride would have taken over thirty minutes alone. Friends, that is priceless. Instead of starting my day 4 hours before the flight I started it an hour and a half before my flight. No traffic to fight. No ridiculously long lines. Staff was helpful and courteous. It was as simple as depositing a check at the bank on the 4th of the month... LOL

Another small airport! I prefer smaller airports, even if they have less to offer, because there is typically little stress involved in flying. No lines. Security is swift. Parking is easy. Facilities are clean. There is one restaurant and bar located right outside the front of security/TSA checkpoint. You can't miss it. Baggage claim is easy. There is only one couresel. There is also a USO with 6 seats! Overall, I am a fan. The only drawback I experienced is that the flight options are minimal.

Yeager Airport is a small, friendly, unhurried regional airport with biscuits. There is a Tudors Biscuit World located in the airport. Biscuits R good and Tudors does them right. How did I end up talking about biscuits in an airport review? Anyway, it's a small, unhurried airport. There are not that many gates, they only serve 6-7 airlines, the rental car place is 50 yards from the security line...and that is all just fine ya'll. I do appreciate that it is named after Chuck Yeager, an early pioneer in space exploration who set a number of records as a test pilot but was denied being one of the first astronauts. If you're a movie buff, rent the movie The Right Stuff. Chuck Yeager is played by Sam Shepherd but the real guy makes a cameo in the movie as a local.

Almost Heaven - West Virginia..... Charleston's Yeager Airport on a hilltop, which drops off sharply on all sides. Hence, landing and taking off here (within the relatively short runway distance) is quite a visual and sometimes stormy adventure! Yeager is small airport with just a few gates and somewhat basic services. At the same time, Yeager is a friendly place, easy to navigate and is has straightforward to and from Charleston proper. And it's one of the dwindling number of airports that your rental car is just a short walk from baggage claim. Once you're in West Virginia proper, nothing is really a straight line from A to B, driving wise. My company has a manufacturing facility in the Willow Island area and some might argue that Columbus, Ohio might be a better airport choice. I just think that you get a better chance to experience this unique state by flying into Charleston first. Take me home, country roads, to the place I belong, West Virginia, mountain mama....

This is a very small airport, so the security lines were very short and went quick. They have FREE Wi-Fi, so this got them extra points. The other thing that got them extra points was the choice of eating/drinking establishments. There are only two places to eat, so they obviously have a monopoly at the airport. Many businesses would take this opportunity to jack the prices up and go cheap on the food quality - but not these two places. Gino's Pizza and Tudor's Biscuits are the two places that hold this airport together - I recommend you check them out. The ONLY thing keeping Yeager from a full five stars is that once you pass security, you cannot get to the restaurants/bar. Ordinarily, this is not a problem, but I was held up here for a good 5 hours due to bad weather in my connecting city. Everything was running minute to minute, so I couldn't leave the gate for fear of missing my flight.

This is one of the tiniest airports I've flown to, shy of Alaska's Skagway or Kunming China. It has one little baggage claim and three rental car desks. United Airways and United Continental are the major carriers, although there are a few Delta and American flights. The waiting area seats about 150 people at a time. Food is limited to Tudor's Biscuit World, which is a small regional chain. Due to the fog, planes frequently have delays. The airport is a convenient 10 minute ride from downtown and has a pretty take off/touch down view. Its relatively clean and bright and the security line is a breeze.

Nice easy airport. You can get mixed drinks outside of security. Beer and wine available past security. They also serve hot sandwiches back there. You can smoke across the parking lot. There's also a small game room.

Tiny airport. Easy to get through security since there are very few people here. Not many options for food and the cabs were intermittent.

This airport has one of the most dangerous runways in the country. It is too short and has a cliff at the end. In 2015, part of the safety extension fell down the hill. Former manager Rick Atkinson (thankfully) "resigned," however, current manager Terry Sayre, has yet to expand the runway. The tiny terminal is limited with shopping options and doesn't serve the needs of visitors. A regional airport should be constructed in Putnam County with longer runways!!!

A solid no frills airport that gets you to the gate quickly and with ease. There are enough TSA personal to check you in, and the TSA precheck makes this very easy. I like the Tudor's inside for a quick bite to eat before you leave on your flight. The only negative that on occasions early morning flights have been delayed due to regional jets set to other cities before Charleston to cover the airline schedule. Still, I like flying out of this airport.

Not a bad little airport. Your options are limited and cost more but it works. The airport is clean and the people are helpful and friendly. That's how we do it in WV.

My home airport. It's good to have the ease of this place after dealing with Dulles, Boston, LA, Tampa, San Diego. You have a question they aren't afraid to help you answer it. TSA Precheck all the way. My gift shop lady makes my flights out in the morning enjoy. One of these days she will sell me that winning ticket though.

I have been to many airports around the country and none of them compare to Yeager in regards to customer service. Always fast, friendly and efficient! The last time at Yeager, I was just seeing friends off, not flying, but the staff showed how lovely they are, again. The couple we were seeing off were a very elderly, non-English speaking couple. We let the staff know, and you would have thought they were flying with their own grandparents, they were so loving and kind. After shockingly rude service at some of the nation's largest airports, Yeager is a breath of fresh, mountain air!

Worst airport with pathetic service . United airline had one employee who was running back and forth to help at the delta counter also . They made us miss our flight and refused to help . They were extremely rude and arrogant . Poor poor customer service . Will try my best to drive to nearby cities and fly from there . Eva united supervisor was not helpful , in fact she Was extremely rude .

Yeager looks like it was probably built 40 years ago and hasn't changed since. It's old, but without the kitsch or charm. Eat before you get here, because there's basically nothing to order. There was something that looked like a high school cafeteria but we only noticed it after we went through security and it hardly looked worthwhile to go back for. On the plus side, it's a tiny little airport very close to 'downtown' Charleston and it's very easy to get in and out of. The car rental agency is steps away and the people are kind and helpful. I don't recall if the internet was free or not, but I do know it was so slow I stopped trying. Altogether not a bad experience, but I pity anyone who gets stuck in this airport for any extended period of time.

Very small airport that usually doesn't get that busy. Security seems to have more of a presence when flights arrive. They seem a bit more lax for departing flights. There is even free parking across from the terminal. I've usually seen these at small airports like this and noticed that it reduces the stress and urgency associated with traveling. Commuter planes typically fly in and out of this airport from larger cities. There's a Tudor's Biscuit, 2 bars, and a gift shop.

It does what it needs to do: allows airplanes to land and take off from it. Well....sometimes. Being on a hill over top of one of the rivers, fog is frequently a concern, causing flights to take off late (or not at all). High wind also affects the airport due to high altitude. Feeder airports Chicago, DC, Charlotte, and Atlanta tend to contribute to the problem as well. As for the in-airport facilities, the best I can say is that the internet is pretty fast. There's a Tudors and a small gift shop and that's it. As one reviewer said, it is super expensive.

I love small airports such as this one for two reasons: 1) the lack of lines anywhere; and 2) they tend to offer free internet nowadays. However, I hate small airports such as this one for two reasons: 1) the lack of food inside the terminal; and 2) it is nearly impossible to get a cab. There's a restaurant outside security, but I prefer to get through security and then sit down to eat. The gift shop there does offer some food options though, such as hot dogs and soft pretzels. I have never experienced such annoying and surreal taxi insanity though which is why I wanted to write this review. There were no taxis in sight when I arrived, so I called my hotel to send the shuttle. As I waited, I saw people fighting over taxis because you can call for them inside, but then when one shows up, everyone is claiming that it is the one for them. Save yourself the hassle and call your hotel from the tarmac to send the shuttle so you dont have to wait long and can avoid the potential throwdown at the taxi line-up. If your hotel doesn't have a shuttle, I suggest bringing some boxing gloves or pepper spray.

Overall, this is a quaint little airport where you come in on your puddle jumper overlooking the cliffs on each side of the runway. Never usually crowded, rental cars are very easy to get, and with the smallness your luggage pops out rather fast. Not much as far as amenities though. Small bathroom, one restaurant, and a security gate. Only drawback is this place is not a cheap ride from anywhere since Delta is about the commanding transit system.

As airports go, this one is a bit out of the way however it's small it's quaint and the staff are lovely. There's a few shops available if you wanted to purchase something, but I found a good corner with a plug to charge my phone and curl up on the chair with my book. It's got a few floors, it also has 20 minute free parking if you are dropping off or picking up someone.

Ah the joys of tiny, regional airports. This is a very small airport which has it's perks. Easy check in. Easy car rental process. Security is fast. You check your carry on at the gate which usually means you get it quickly whenever you arrive at your destination. The airport has free wi-fi but I had trouble maintaining a signal. Understandably the food options are limited because of the size of the airport.

I love this airport. It's tiny, but I think it's size is mostly why it's so pleasant. The TSA folks are even nice. They have changed a bit since I was last there. The metered lot in the front is now a 20 minute pick off and drop off area, and there is a walkway from the parking garage to the airport. There is only one restaurant, but it's Tudor's/Gino's! Who doesn't like Tudor's? The gift shop is past security which is helpful is you want to grab a drink. There are an assortment of magazines, snacks, and West Virginia souvenirs. Security lines are almost always short and it literally takes maybe 3 to 5 minutes to walk from one end of the airport to the other. I flown in and out of here more times than I can count and I have never had a bad experience. Oh, and free Wifi!

Teeny Tiny Airport. You could probably come 10 seconds before your flight, eat a biscuit, and still make it thru security on time. It is unlike any other airport for a Capital City. No crowds, 1 maybe 2 luggage carousels. Its expensive to fly in and out of Charleston, and Yeager is your only choice. Not a bad thing though...

Being a local, it's the airport I've flown out of the most but still great. Like previously mentioned it is small, has small lines and a Tudors Biscuit World. I have a pilot friend who lives out of state and LOVES flying in/out of Yeager because of it's landscape. Flying into and out of the trees is amazing!

Staff is helpful, TSA aren't automatons with a grimace and you can get through pretty quickly to your flight. They have bars and a gift shop. Diversity of grabbables for your flight if you don't like in-flight meals.

As a frequent flyer, Yeager is a nice break from large airports. It's small with maybe two dining options and one little shop, but why would you want to dine/shop at an airport anyway? Yeager is a final destination kind of airport, so the hassle-free and quick process of getting in and out is perfect. Getting through security has never been an issue. There is rarely a line (maybe 15 mins max) at security, and the staff are quick and courteous. No constant berating and bullying to check in your bag for a front pocket that sticks out a bit from heavy use (looking at you, JFK). So if your destination is somewhere in WV, this airport is convenient to almost any regional location and above all stress-free. Cheers.

For an airport being on a mountain top, the runway can not be huge. So, it takes the puddle jumpers to other states. But that's not bad. The smallness of most commercial airports and especially this airport means you never wait for hours (you'll do that at the other airports). It's clean. And of all the many, many flights that I have had to and from, there has been nothing bad leaving the airport. Early in the morning and late are night are the busiest since they don't run all night. So, book in the afternoon.
