Loved this cute, historic café! The moment you walk in, you're taken back in time, especially with the classic red spiny stool at the bar. The food was comforting and satisfying. I ordered the Lunch Break, and it tasted fresh and was very filling. Everyone who worked there was incredibly kind and welcoming.

This is a cozy restaurant that locals love for their breakfast! We had Best and ‘the West’, Harvest omelette, Southwestern omelette and Harvest scramble! They were all so delicious; however the specialty chicken fried steak was the best of all. It is always busy here; after seating the service was prompt and excellent!

We tried to get breakfast at the Western Cafe, but sat for about 10 minutes while every table around us got service (all of whom showed up after us), including their orders taken, coffee, and juice, all the while we didn't get a word or a glance from either of the two servers working our area. I got a distinct feeling we were not welcome, and that this restaurant has a very specific clientele that it caters and gives preference to. We left and are sitting at Main Street Overeasy now, which has been incredible so far.

A super popular breakfast spot—every seat was taken when we arrived! The food was absolutely delicious, but what stood out even more was the amazing atmosphere. Cozy, welcoming, and full of energy. Loved everything about this café!

Google
The only classic American diner in Bozeman! Quick, fast, friendly service. Make sure to try the Best of the West if you want one of the best country fried steaks of your life. The cinnamon Rolls sell out quickly daily, try to score one before they're all gone. Biscuits that are dream-worthy. Extra gravy is always a must.

Google
This place is a Montana classic! Be warned - you will almost certainly have to wait when you get here but, with that said, I have never waited very long and it's absolutely worth it. Try the "Best in the West" or the "Bobcat Breakfast" they are awesome! The portions are huge and a great value as well as delicious. The real star here is the ambiance of the place. The decor, the petina on the counters, even the mugs they use, screams classic diner. A must do when in Bozeman!

You will have to wait for a table. Food is very good. Everything we had was hot and made fresh. Your food does come fast. The service was great.

Breakfast in Bozeman @westerncafebozeman This place is amazing, so glad I got up a little early to stop in. Perfect atmosphere, great food, friendly staff & KILLER music. Got called a Troll for the first time by a friendly waitress, originally from the UP of Michigan. Since I’m from the LP, and thus live south of (under) the bridge (Mackinac), I’m a troll! 😂 Love it! So much cool stuff to see on the walls but, unlike other “diners”, it’s all totally dust and cobweb free! There’s lots of pride and fun vibes in this establishment! 👍

Yelp
Stopped into Western Cafe while visiting Bozeman. The western, outdoorsy theme was really well done, rustic and cozy. It definitely gave off small town charm. I loved the inside so much! I ordered a cinnamon roll and an omlette. Unfortunately, the cinnamon roll was a letdown. It looked promising, but it mostly just tasted like plain dough with little to no cinnamon flavor. I was so bummed. My omlette and hashbrowns were great though! My boyfriend had the breakfast burrito. It was packed full and he really enjoyed it. He also agreed with me about the cinnamon roll. We had high hopes but that's okay! Our waiter was fine. He wasn't super personable and didn't really seem thrilled to be there but it worked. It can get very busy during peak times no matter the day of the week, we waited about 15 minutes. They are very efficient and got us in pretty quickly. This small town diner is incredibly charming and will make you want to sit in there all day due to its cozy, back in the day ambiance. We will definitely visit again in the future when we return to Bozeman!

Yelp
Couldn't recommend this more! Was a great joint to swing by before flying out of Bozeman. The chicken fried steak is intimidating, but worth a try! I might recommend splitting it along with another entrée with someone else.

Yelp
This breakfast cafe has been around forever. The decor is all about Bozeman/Montana and the diner is a must visit to get that feel. The food was good and hardy.

K T.

Yelp
The food was good but the wait staff literally ignore guests waiting to put their names down or waiting to ask questions...like will walk away while you're saying "excuse me" or will not address you as you're waiting by the door.

Yelp
I'm trying to highlight the good spots I'm enjoying while I'm in town on business. Not every place is tasty, like any other town. We shared everything at the table and I would happily eat every dish again. Really great spot. Haley was our server and was amazing. They were very busy but were communicative about it so it was an easy lunch. I'll be back!

Yelp
I was visiting a friend in Bozeman. We decided to go out for breakfast, and specifically for biscuits and gravy, which is something we like to share. My friend found Western Cafe, so we decided to try it. The sign outside said that the restaurant had been there for over 100 years, under 2 different names. It's been the Western Cafe since the 1950s. Inside, it was just as, well, Western, as a Midwestern person would expect: lots of pictures of cowboys, horses and such, and lots and lots of wood. I loved it! We went there on a Thursday morning. We were a little concerned when the wait was 20 minutes, as we had some appointments later in the day. But, I'm pretty sure that we waited less than that. When we were seated, our server came immediately. We ordered the B n G special -- eggs, biscuits & gravy and meat. We also got a side of hash browns. Our order came out quickly. The biscuits were HUGE, as was the platter of hashbrowns. The sausage was obviously house-made and was delicious. The hashbrowns were fine, but I didn't think they were anything special. I was also amused by the tin cup that my friend's drink came in. The only real downside is that there are 3 very steep steps as soon as you open the door, so anybody with mobility issues would probably have a problem getting inside. I almost wish we hadn't gone there because I will now be craving those biscuits and I have no way to get them in Michigan!

Yelp
Cute diner on East Main! Came here on Tuesday morning around 11am and was seated within just a few minutes. This western-decked out diner, definitely lets you know you are in the Midwest. When we were seated, our waitress came immediately and gave us the run down. We ordered a veggie omelet, breakfast sandwich (huge biscuit) and hot cake special. Everyone enjoyed their meal, I ordered the hot cakes so I will speak on that. It's a nice size pancake that was pretty delicious. It came with eggs and bacon (for my sister). Overall, pretty solid breakfast with friendly service. (We parked on the street, by the way.)

Yelp
Western Cafe is hands-down one of my favorite spots in town. I'm always treated incredibly well by Sue and her amazing staff, genuine, friendly service every time. The food is consistently great, with that classic diner vibe that makes you feel right at home. I highly recommend trying the "Special" or the "Best in the West"... you won't be disappointed. Can't say enough good things about this place!

Kelly R.

Yelp
I've trired to eat here on two separate occasions and was treated rudely and dismissively both times. The service was so bad I walked out. I'm happy to take my business elsewhere as there's an abundance of welcoming and delicious breakfast options in downtown Bozeman. Advice to the owner, if you don't want to take visitors' money put a sign on the front door that says 'visitors not welcome here' and be done with it.

HJ H.

Yelp
Quaint little place downtown that serves traditional American breakfast & lunch accompanied by classic western music. Prices are quite high but not unexpectedly considering the high cost of food everywhere now. I order a short stack of buttermilk pancakes that came golden and fluffy. Unfortunately they came unbuttered and hamburger flavored. Who knew?! Now I like a good hamburger but not with my pancakes. A separate grill might be a good idea. Would I go back? Yeah probably but I think I'll just order a burger.

Yelp
Simple little diner. Would recommend to anyone passing through. Got the blueberry pancakes with bacon. Everything tasted great. Food came out quickly. They have restrooms and take card.
google avatar

Yelp
Very busy, small and cozy, no nonsense service. Parking on the street. We ordered special of the day/week/all the time(?) bobcat breakfast, and chicken fried steak. Portion is HUGE! We requested sausage with our bobcat, it was pretty salty, cinnamon roll French toast is a bit too dense for me. Chicken fried steak is great. It really is bottomless coffee! They prefer cash, credit/debit payment will cost you extra.

Yelp
I was hoping for a coffee shop but Western Cafe held up to its name and is indeed a cafe. So instead of coffee and a couple of hours of wifi, I had coffee and a fantastic omelet and enjoyed my breakfast. Super service from a friendly waitress and a delicious large omelet with a big pile of potatoes. There's no Waffle House out here in Montana, so we'll just make do with what we have. Yum! Yelp
The signs don't lie! Western Cafe truly maybe "The Last Best Cafe"! Delicious! Everything from coffee to eggs is fresh, fresh, fresh! And people are truly enjoying! The service pleasant, the patrons are happy and there is a nice mix of content locals and cheerful visitors. We sat at the bar and enjoyed all the special decorated touches that gave the cafe that old town country feeling! Not a bar sitter but totally enjoyed the experience. A must have... their homemade biscuits! Oh yeah, I'll be back!!!!
google avatar

Joey T.

Yelp
Western Cafe did not disappoint. The breakfast I got was big, affordable, cooked well, and was clearly superior to any other diner food. They make ya feel both at home, and like you're stepping back in time. You can tell people have been coming here for a long while, and not just from the cliental and decor. The whole vibe fits with the meal and it truly seems to be one of the most special eateries in town.

Yelp
This place takes you back in time and it is awesome!! The burger and fries were amazing! All of the nostalgia in this place takes you back to the Old West! Can't wait to come back for breakfast!

Yelp
We waited and waited to finally be able to go here and it was worth the wait as far as we were all concerned. Everything was great the staff was friendly and the food we had was delicious. The only thing I wasn't to crazy about was the cinnamon roll but everything else was great.

Heather L.

Yelp
The food was great but the service was TERRIBLE. While it was busy, as usual, the lady who runs the front of the house was rude. The waiter we had did the bare minimum. Threw us our food and that was about it. We asked several times for a refill and never got anything. They have a good thing going just need to improve their customer service.
google avatar

Yelp
We were instantly greeted, and sat immediately. Our waitress was very sweet and our breakfast was exactly what we wanted. Perfectly cooked and quick. We will definitely add this place to our breakfast stops when visiting Bozeman. Thanks!!
google avatar

Yelp
Always excellent, always crowded. And some of the best pancakes I've ever had. We've only been for breakfast. I have a feeling lunch will be just as good--if you can get a seat. Amy's a gem.

Dean W.

Yelp
What a nostalgic location capturing the spirit of Bozeman! Short wait for breakfast and we were graciously seated. Server was there almost immediately with water and coffee! Breakfast was outstanding and a great value served quickly. Server was attentive in refreshing the coffees and bringing by our check. Surrounded by locals and visitors from numerous states and was interesting to hear the different stories being told around us!! Cheers to the Western Cafe!
google avatar

MaryBeth F.

Yelp
Wow! Stepping back in time when entering this place and it definitely gives original Bozeman. Food was served hot and fast, prices were affordable, and waitress was great! We were there around noon and since they serve breakfast all day (open until 2pm) everyone in our party of 7 was able to order exactly what they wanted.
google avatar

Michelle F.

Yelp
We really enjoyed their biscuits and gravy and their chicken fried steak. Everything tastes amazing. Front entrance is not handicap accessible but there is a back entrance with a ramp. The restaurant is small inside but with a little patience we were able to get a wheel chair in and were very comfortable. Service was quick and very helpful even on a very busy Saturday morning!

Yelp
Original fabulous, great food great family love this place The decor makes it all!! A must stop when visiting Bozeman

Yelp
Like an old fashioned diner with a great menu and friendly service. Not a place to go for heath food because of all the tempting things such as cinnamon rolls and hash browns. Omelettes are especially good.

Hallie H.

Yelp
Food was great. Atmosphere fun. But the highlight was Amy, who was kind enough to serve us with energy and interest. Thanks, Amy Great start to our day. Amy is a rock star.

Brittany J.

Yelp
My friends and I were visiting town for the weekend, despite our large group and a bit of a wait, they managed to seat us all together best they could. The atmosphere was really homey. Great service. The food was incredible, everyone was happy, we all couldn't resist trying each others plates- overall a great dining experience!
google avatar

Joyce B.

Yelp
Great food. Not so great service. Looked very much like a normal place that's been around a long time. Full of regulars. Don't think they liked tourists very much. We sat at the bar and had to flag down our servers at times. The food was typical diner food but a very good with huge portions. I got their "famous" cinnamon French toast tasted like a regular French toast to me. We waited about 20 minutes for a table/ counter seat. Very crowded on a weekday. Good food fun ambiance.
google avatar

Jenny G.

Yelp
The breakfast here was good. It's decorated cute and is bigger than you would think from the outside. Everyone was friendly. I ordered the biscuits and gravy. It's evident biscuits are made and not reheated though before they are served. Mine was cold and the gravy was warm. It had a delicious taste I just wish it was served hot.
google avatar

Mark J.

Yelp
What a solid meal. Everything was cooked perfectly. The sausage was a particular treat!

Yelp
What a great find for us! We live and work in Yellowstone and frequent Bozeman once a month or so for supplies. Today we had to get tires for the van, groceries and some additional hiking gear at REI. Typically, we shop or Costco/WinCo and stop along the way back to the Park and eat in the Wilderness. Today we decided to treat ourselves and found this place. Classic small town vibe. We sat at the bar counter and ordered breakfast. Marissa, our college-aged server, was one of the most pleasant / nicest worker we have encountered in some time. We ordered two of their daily specials (one was a cinnamon roll type French toast that my wife wished had more cinnamon on it) and I had their gravy chicken fried steak offering. OMG! Loved that gravy and the steak was excellent! Coffee was good too. Lots of Knick knacks on the walls; but no cobwebs or dust could be seen. To me, that's the sign of an owner / work staff taking pride in their business. Will absolutely go back

Yelp
A hopping place for sure. It was a hit with locals and can understand why. We were greeted and sat down with our waiter bringing water and menus immediately. Ordered a scrambler and an omelette. Both were nicely done. I ordered lightly crisp hash browns. Perfect. The jelly for toast came in a container that was filled. Not sure if it was homemade but it was tasty. We recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Wendy H.

Yelp
This place is comfortable and very charming inside. The employees are friendly and greet you with a smile. The lady taking names (we had to wait about 25mins) looked like she ran the show and was not as welcoming but the overall vibe of this place made up for that. The service was on point. Coffee was just ok. We ordered the Bobcat breakfast and the summer special which was one egg hassbrowns bacon and biscuit and gravy. The food was underwhelming. Just goof. I would say great. But they certainly turn and burn their tables
google avatar

Yelp
The last best place... Western is exactly what it promises to be, and nothing more in all the right ways. The small diner is simple, straightforward --andddd always on a wait. When you walk in, you'll be "at" the hostess stand smack in the middle of bustling tables and the cash register. Once you give your name, you'll head outside (so don't forget a jacket!) and wait for them to call your name -- no texting or phone calls here! The restaurant aisles are full of waitresses balancing hot plates full of Bobcat Specials and the expected coffee pots to top off guests. They'll serve you up something yummy pretty quick and you'll leave more than full! For what's it's worth, I think their sausage is some of the best dang sausage I've ever had! While waiting for your bill, don't miss the relics on the walls - there are some seriously cool gems there!
google avatar

Nyah S.

Yelp
Such a cute breakfast spot, the vibe is exactly what you come to MT for. The biscuits and gravy were so good I could cry.... That's all.
google avatar

Vic F.

Yelp
Excellent food, service and value!! Will be my go to whenever I'm in Bozeman for breakfast!!
google avatar

JD H.

Yelp
Never gets old eating here. Bobcat breakfast and the winter special are our favs. Friendly service and perfect food.
google avatar

Bree P.

Yelp
The food was outstanding! Me and my boyfriend got the best in the west breakfast meal. Very delicious. The breading on the chicken fried steak wasn't overdone or too much. Perfect amount. The steak was great as well, not dry. Hasbrowns were thick and good as well. The service was prompt and Kodi was a great waitress. The ambiance is what you wouldn't expect it to be for an awesome yet busy establishment. You see locals there and out of towners. The locals going leads me to believe it's always good. I couldn't finish my meal because the portions are generous!

Peter H.

Yelp
A set back in time to another age, a Bozeman of your grandparent's youth. Nothing fancy, just great reliable food.
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
I'll start by saying breakfast isn't difficult. Some like to overdo it. The Western is an Icon for a reason, they're on the edge but don't so well. Many of the times I've been, there was a small wait. Peak season, I'd say I've waited no longer than 15 minutes. I've tried many different items on the menu from your generic bacon, eggs and hasbrown to the cinnamon roll pancakes and many things in between. Service is always good. Not personal or extravagant but there is a lot going on for the servers. It's generally pretty loud inside so if you are expecting to have an intimate conversation with whoever you are dining with, it's gonna be difficult. The food, the coffee, the freshly squeezed OJ, the pie and so many others is quite delicious and worth going. Anytime I'm in Bozeman, you bet your ass I'll be there.
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
Ok, really touristy. Good food for breakfast but they lost our ticket and my toast never showed up until after I was done eating. I had to ask 2 different people for it. Very sad. Come on kids, you can do better than that. 2.5 stars.

Rob M.

Yelp
Delicious food in an old time cafe. The way it used to be and always should be. No nonsense service. Fair prices.

S T.

Yelp
Owners grandson/waiter was a d-bag. Should be in another line of work with no interaction with humans.. Pancakes were overcooked. Better food elsewhere.

Sirusho M.

Yelp
The best breakfast of my life, very delicious food. Just a little uncomfortable sitting due to many people.

Yelp
Authentic, Old West Experience [Bozeman MT] On our last day in Bozeman we decided to dine at another local favorite. We had some time to spare before heading to the airport. When I opened the heavy wooden door we were greeted immediately as we gave our name to the sweet lady to add to the waitlist. Then we had to wait outside. We had some wait... it was midweek on a Wednesday morning. The restaurant was packed, they were busy! They were that popular. My first glimpse inside was as if we walked in a small town atmosphere from the 1960's where cowboys and ranchers can wander inside for a cup o' Joe or a hearty classic breakfast. (yeah, I watched a few Bonanza series). To the right is a long counter lined with classic swivel tools... that's where they sat us, right at the opening between the dining area and bar. I was able to survey the cheerful bustle as servers hustle about pouring coffee and serving heavy trays of food. We were given a menu but the chalkboard behind the counter caught our attention... it had some of their popular items on their menu and I chose the Manny Steak (remember?) I asked our waitress what the "remember?" was all about. She explained that there used to be a cafe nearby and they made these huge steaks (as she showed me a visual with her hands)... okay, so that's what I ordered. Hubby chose the Best in the West which was their popular chicken fried steak and eggs. Our food arrived quickly and we dug in. Wow! our waitress wasn't lying when she said how big the steak was. It was a 9-oz hamburger steak! I was surprised at my first bite... the steak was bland but nothing that salt and pepper and ketchup couldn't fix. Before our food came I was eyeing the desserts sitting in front of us. Behind the counter was a silver metal bake case loaded with sweet temptations displaying the picks of the day -- slices of pies and cinnamon rolls. Man, I couldn't anymore after the huge hamburger steak that I wasn't even able to finish. Anyway, so glad we were able to dine here... it was an authentic, Old West experience. Review #2337

Yelp
A true locals spot, and as a passer-through on the way to Yellowstone, it made me feel at home even though I was thousands of miles away. Our service, although packed, was fast and attentive. The food was solid, with more creative options than I ever expected for a local breakfast nook. It felt like one of those places that if I was from Bozeman, would make me feel back at home every time I visited. A great place that contributes to an awesome town!
google avatar

Joan B.

Yelp
Great Breakfast spot. First time here & really enjoyed the atmosphere, food & hospitality oh & the music! We got there at 6:04am & the place filled up fast. It was also fun reading some Bozeman history on the walls. JP Benner - Breakfast.

Yelp
Western Cafe is one of the best cafés in Bozeman. I had a chicken, fried steak, scrambled eggs and hashbrowns, and it was all outstanding. Literally brought me back to my childhood days every weekend with my family. Great food and the lady owner was so kind. I only wish I would've had room for the blackberry cobbler for dessert but I was way too full.

Paula R.

Yelp
This place is a must for breakfast, the eggs Benedict are my favorite! Not very big inside but you can park out back! So if you are in downtown Bozeman plz stop there & have a delicious breakfast or lunch!
