The Westfield Centro Christmas Market in Oberhausen is a festive, family-friendly highlight of the season — and definitely worth a visit. From mid-November to 23 December, roughly 140 lovingly decorated wooden huts line the squares and promenade in front of the centre, offering everything from handcrafted gifts and seasonal decorations to warming treats like mulled wine, hot cocoa, crêpes, and gingerbread hearts.
What stands out is the variety: there’s a rustic, alpine-style “FlachauAlm” serving hearty dishes like Kasnocken and Kaiserschmarrn, and for children there’s a “Bergweihnachtsmarkt” with a real-snow toboggan run, a whimsical fairytale tree, a little gnome railway, and a merry-go-round — so kids are delighted as soon as they arrive.
At night, the atmosphere becomes truly magical. Warm lights, festive decorations and a glow across the promenade create a cosy mood. The official opening is marked by a “Lights On” ceremony and a drone show lighting up the sky above the centre — a beautiful way to kick off the festive season.
Practicalities are good too: the centre offers ample free parking (12,000+ spots) and is easily reachable — but if you come on a weekend it’s probably wise to use public transport to avoid parking stress.
If you like, I can write a longer, 400-word “photo-blogger style” review of the market — that might suit you well, given your interest in photography.
