Google
Small family run diner with Good food and Good Service. The food is homemade, with big portions and decent prices. Highly recommend the Fish and Chips, one serving or the family serving- the fish always has a light crisp batter covering a generous portion of Fish with perfectly cooked fries and a delicious homemade coleslaw. Save room for dessert- The made from scratch pies are fantastic. Definitely worth the drive from Barrie.

The food was delicious and the service is impeccable. The staff is friendly and we loved them. It’s one of the unique restaurant that I’ve been to. It has a display of a tea pots which was collected over decades and the collection’s background story can be read at the restaurant. If you are in the area make sure to treat yourself for a yummy meal at Westside Fish & Chips.

Google
Made a wrong turn and went to the store with no expectations and thing just another Fish & Chips store. Was surprised by its decor, theme and back story and at the same time friendly witty staff, and great food. Must visit and stop for fish and chips and pie.

Sugato Datta

Google
Some of the best fish and chips in the area. The spaghetti meat sauce was great too. And a delightful slice of home made coconut cream pie to end our birthday lunch! Must visit when in Huntsville

Sharon was an excellent server, the fish and chips were really good. The atmosphere was very unique and the story of the tea pots was enjoyable to hear. It just confirms the long history of great food and great service!

I have come to this restaurant for many years and I still enjoy it just the same as my first experience. The food is spectacular and it's a perfect sized portion for whatever you may order. I have ordered breakfast and fish and chips here many times. There are 3 fish options when ordering fish and chips that vary in price but are all very fairly priced. I usually go there earlier in the day and it always has great music playing but remains peaceful, and they are always coming around for the coffee refills, which is a recipe for a great morning. I appreciate the staff and the atmosphere at West Side Fish and Chips as they are friendly and are frequently tending to their guests. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody in the area. There are so many things to see and try at this restaurant and it really gives off a true muskoka experience.

Google
Great Fish & Chips spot! Very homey Food quality was very demur! Portion-size was very generous! I usually don’t like coleslaw but this one HIT! (More on the vinegar side) Nice & cool, & had to end off the meal with some mud-slide pie to go! Amazing experience (also shoutouts to our waiter who can sing: NobleWolf63 check out the local talent!) would come again!

Google
Awesome little restaurant on route to the Provincial parks. While they sell other dishes, they are known for their fish and chips. Pretty much the standard you'd find at a good fish and chips shop in England! We had the haddock and it was fresh, crispy and tasty. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Oh and don't forget to finish off the meal with a slice of one of their homemade pies (which are made every morning). The rhubarb and Strawberry pie was delicious!

Yelp
A homey and relaxing restaurant. Beautiful and lovely people in here. Surrounded with thoughtful handmade art pieces. The staff is extremely friendly and courtesy The food quality and taste are very good. It's a worth visiting.

Yelp
Friendly service. Delicious food. Loved everything about this place. Can't wait to be back especially to try their pies!

Yelp
To be honest, this is a nice place with nice staff and great homemade pies, but the fish and chips are now only a very slight step up from a Captain Highliner frozen dinner. Thin greasy, batter. Soggy greasy fries. And halibut sliced so thin they must hire a barber to cut it with a straight razor. They really need to reassess their menu priorities and get back to their core business, fish and chips. Daily Special was a HOT DOG! Yes, a hot dog! I say this all in a positive spirit intended to get them to get back to their high quality past!

Yelp
This place is small and it takes long to wait for food. Not sure if it's because it's the long weekend. The fish and chips is good but a bit oily. The fish chowder is not that good. It tastes like cream and mushroom soup with some white fish bites in it. Overall, it's still a decent place to go if you have time to wait for your food

Yelp
We always stop here when driving north. Poutine is good, but no curds. Fish and chips are always on point.

Yelp
My big regret was that I forgot to seek out the trivia cards while we waited for our food. The decor is "Finally! I can collect teapots to my heart's content and put them in the restaurant and not have my spouse get mad when they clutter our home!" The ceiling tiles are painted with scenes from kids' animated movies (and there's a story about that on one of the walls.) Minimalist this is not, which is fine. This is the kind of mom and pop feel you want for a fish and chips joint. We got six pieces of the fried haddock. It was fine but a bit oily. It wasn't as good as my favorite fried fish places near me. The French fries were fine but we found the sweet potato fries bland. I was intrigued by the pierogies on the menu, and also wondering how so many non-Polish restaurants in Ontario have come to carry pierogies. We sat on the patio and were told our food would come out in 10 minutes. After 20 I checked in and our food had been sitting behind the counter in a bag because of some miscommunication with the kitchen. The counter lady quickly jumped in to claim that it had only been there for 2 minutes. We had our doubts but thankfully the food was all still hot. There were lots of messages around the restaurant thanking customers for their patronage but the service itself wasn't that great and the lady at the counter lacked warmth. (Sorry, counter lady!)

Yelp
Came by here while we were out in cottage country and they popped up on Google w.a 4.6/5 rating by over 680 diners! We had to check it out for ourselves & boy were we impressed! Their batter is so crispy and crunchy! They don't make their own fries, but they have 2 options of spuds, regular salted or spicy coated. Service was quick and very friendly! The place itself is decorated with hundreds of teapots of all kinds and sizes! Check this place out if you're in or near Huntsville/Baysville!! The food is made to order, so its always going to be hot and fresh!!

Yelp
We love going to Westside! My daughters and I love their fish and chips! What a treat it is to go there! The atmosphere is fun and the staff are friendly!

Yelp
Great, fast and friendly service. Fish and chips were delicious. Plus coconut creme pie to share, it's a big piece

Yelp
I came here twice during road trips. The second time I came with my immediate family (all foodies). We all think the fish and chips here are the best we've ever had worldwide. The fish is juicy and crispy and the chips are very flavourful. In store they have hundreds of teapots collected as a nice decoration.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Unimpressed with the fish and chips. Barely any halibut....all batter and the chips were awful as they were soggy. I expected a bit more for the $27 for 2 orders - tossed it all in the garbage

Yelp
Best meal we've had in our weekend trip in Huntsville. Their fish and chips is a must try. They're also very kind and the atmosphere is very cozy.

Yelp
Hit the spot after an awesome weekend after the annual Kearney Dog Sled race! Fish chowder and deep fried pickles to warm the belly followed by Family Meal Deal of 6 pieces of fish, 4 orders of chips , coleslaw & gravy!

Yelp
Amazing fish chowder, amazing fish and chips and amazing lemon meringue pie! Everything was amazing!!

Yelp
Stopped by prior to going to arrowhead provincial park. Homey family run restaurant. AMAZING fish and chips. The batter was really light and great flavour. The fish was flakey and not dry. Overall amazing!!
google avatar

Yelp
Best fish and chips around. We come to Huntsville every year and making a stop at Westside is a must.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this place. We ordered the family meal, white fish which was delicious - well seasoned and good value $40 for 6 pieces. The coconut shrimp was great as well, definitely a must try. The service was great, wait time of 10 minutes even though they were very busy. Will definitely stop by when we visit again!

Yelp
Food Quality & Price: Huge menu but every item looks delicious! I had the haddock with mashed potatoes. Usually I expect less of haddock than halibut, but Westside does it really well! I enjoyed my meal at a comfortable price. My husband and I both ordered fish entree and a slice of lemon meringue pie for dessert. The bill totaled $25. GREAT price for the quality of food. Facility: A comfortable mom & pop / greasy spoon restaurant which was exactly what we were looking for during our stay in Huntsville. Everything was clean and the establishment has decent views and natural light. At each table, there are your regular condiments including tartar sauce, but I was also very amused by the "trivia question cards" to help patrons pass the time or used as conversation starters. What a smart idea! Service: Great service from Samantha. She was attentive but not pushy. All food was served fresh and quickly. She took away dirty plates and was very efficient at her job. Overall: This seems like a pretty simple and short review because there isn't anything negative to say about Westside Fish & Chips. My husband and I did not expect amazing food, but we certainly got it - and at a decent price too. Westside also has posters up indicating that they froze their menu prices in 2011, so there is not price increase. I was pleased by that bold marketing move. If you went camping just north of Huntsville like we did, reserve a meal for Westside. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Very friendly staff and amazing fish and chips. They even bring the Takeout out to your car.

Yelp
While here the place was busy and noisy despite that the waitress could still be heard complaining about not getting tips and using inappropriate language but the food is always awesome

Yelp
First time visitor. Very nice local restaurant. Food was hot and delicious for our family of 5. Fish was fresh and on point! Staff was friendly and attentive to our requests...we didn't have many, but nonetheless we could tell we were valued. It was decorated with the famous tea kettles which invited conversation on which was the most interesting. Thank you for the great experience.

Yelp
Heading home with the family on the way from Algonquin Park we decided Huntsville would work out timing wise that Huntsville would make a good spot to stop for a late lunch. There was eight of us in total and we wanted good food, ideally not from a chain. As well, near the water seemed to make sense. This checked off all the boxes although I should be clear that if you're hoping for a view of the water you might be disappointed. While we were there (early August) the trees had grown up to a point where I was only able to get a glimpse of the water, although I actually cannot say for certain that it actually what it was. That being said, we were not disappointed. Despite our larger group size, we were seated right away in a bright a many-windowed room containing the most delightful teapot collection. The table all had trivia pursuit cards on them which made waiting for our meals a fun time that passed quickly. Almost all of us had the fish and chips and enjoyed them very much, apart from my wife who said that were 'just okay.' Washed down with beverages a family of four came to just under $100. This is clearly a small family affair and the staff were all friendly and eager to please. None of us had room for dessert but the pies looked really fantastic as well. I might be tempted to go somewhere else as I don't make it to this area very often but I would certainly recommend it to others.

Yelp
Great food very reasonably priced and clean. Place has lovely staff family run and plenty of character. Including fun artwork on the ceiling tiles. Try the pie for dessert! My kids ages 14 11 and 8 loved this stop and ate their plates clean.

Yelp
Came by here on a Yelp recommendation after a weekend of portaging in nearby Algonquin. Famished and dying for some A/C and cold beer, this place didn't disappoint. It's a little outside the 'downtown' core but parking is plentiful out back and I enjoyed the winter signs warning of falling snow (it was early August when we visited). The service was fast and friendly, and we ordered the family-sized fish 'n chips - hey, if you're in a place with Fish & Chips in its name, you probably should, you know.. order that. For about $30 it came with a heap of fries and 6 pieces of fish, with a smallish coleslaw side. Actually they gave us 7, not sure if that was by accident, or perhaps because the pieces were quite on the small side. Flavour-wise it was pretty good, and the price was very reasonable, though a little too much batter, and too little fish. Also tried their spicy spuds, which were little more than lightly spiced home-made potato chips, but again not bad. If I could suggest any one thing, it would be to have bigger pieces of fish, even if it meant higher prices. Value was good, but the fishes were a tad small, is all.. Aside from that, everything was great and I'd come back again.

Yelp
We decided to try this family business for a dinner one night while staying here for a vacation.. my boyfriend had fish and Caesar salad and a large chocolate milk, I had a burger and fries with a milkshake. The milkshake was delicious, the fish was very tastey, not too greasy and the right amount of batter, the salad had just the right amount of dressing on it. The burger and fries were perfectly cooked and tasted really good. Large chocolate milk though is only an 8oz cup.

Rajesh G.

Yelp
Looks unimpressive from the outside but trust us - you won't be too disappointed if you come for the fish and chips. Nice light batter, good quality fish. Really enjoyed our meal and we'll be back next time we're in town.

Lori W.

Yelp
Fantastic little place! Love the decor Great food, friendly staff. Went for breakfast but was seriously tempted by the pie at the front counter instead! Ended up going for the french toast, delicious! Little sad I wont be able to be able to go back for dinner to try the fish and chips!

Sergey P.

Yelp
So for whoever is interested: the owner must have placed her large order after me, received it while I was waiting patiently and blamed me for my complaint. This reply shows you how little the owner cares about you the client, because you are always wrong. She doesn't deserve anyone's patronage. To be clear, I used their check and messages to my wife for timing the order, I have the proof and she only uses pathetic lies to blame the client. Avoid!

Yelp
I really am torn because I want to give them four stars, but I'm a huge seafood fan and I found their batter too heavy and greasy. The staff was very attentive, friendly and the service was good. And they keep the place nice and clean. I would recommend the halibut over the other cheaper fish options. We tried both the white fish and halibut. I just wish the batter was lighter and less greasy. I understand how difficult achieving that is.

Dawg G.

Yelp
Absolutely the best, friendliest, and unforgettable restaurant I have been to. Great place for fish and chips, all food is good, but the best pie you will ever have. Coconut cream pie is to die for! So good got a whole pie to go! Other desserts can't pass up are lemon meringue or raspberry pie warmed with ice cream! Amazing place! Amazing service! A must visit. Yum!

Yelp
Best fish and chips anywhere! Great gluten free selections! Always friendly and treat us so well!

Mike C.

Yelp
Usualy the food is pretty good but tonight on take out is garbage fish was over done and the fries where hard liked they where warmed

Wojtek G.

Yelp
Great service. Solid food. Much more variety on the menu than you think! When we came there was gumbo, fish chowder, cabbage rolls, and a mutltidue of desserts.

Lily G.

Yelp
Had a really pleasant time eating here. Staff are super nice and food is delicious. Would love to come again!

Yelp
After reading the reviews, we wanted to try this mom and pap shop. We had high hopes wen we arrived as it was really busy on a weekday during lunch. We were severely disappointed. Upon arrival, we were first to go on the wait list for a party of 6. They were clear they did not take reservations, yet another party of 6 arrived after us saying they called ahead and they were sat immediately with "priority seating". Other smaller parties sat before us as well, so we were waiting longer than anyone else. We had a baby and toddler with us. The wait wasn't so long though, but it was made even less pleasant by the crabbiness of one of the servers. I don't mind when servers aren't 100% cheerful and attentive, but not only was she crabby, she was just flat out rude. I asked a question about the menu and her response was an immediate and sharp "NO". No manners whatsoever an it was almost as if we annoyed her by coming to the restaurant to eat. I promise we made no such comments or behaviour to warrant such rude service. In addition to being bumped on the wait list, two other tables were sat after us and their orders were taken before ours. It took a long time before our order was taken, drinks food everything at once. The other tables also received their food before us. It was almost insulting. Especially since the toddler was starving at this point. The food was decent. Small portions, but you get was you pay for. I'd personally rather the fish be more expensive and bigger pieces so there's less batter and grease. They were very greasy and heavily battered. French fries were not homemade and were a little soggy. Again, prices were good, but food wasn't any better than what you'd get at a fast food joint. I would not recommend this place to anyone nor will we ever be returning. Such a shame because we really try to make an effort to support the small businesses over the big chain restaurants, but I can't support this one again.

Yelp
Great place to go in huntsville. Retro atmosphere and very good fish and chips. The pies are pretty good too!

Wendy K.

Yelp
Good comfort food and great service. The #4 fish & chips with halibut and coleslaw was perfect. Nice perogies too. Beer or wine too. Can't go wrong at Westside!
google avatar

Roland L.

Yelp
Halibut was tasty, but a Small portion for the price. Coleslaw came from a tub. Tartar sauce from packets. The fries were McCain's.

JC V.

Yelp
They're known for their fish & chips but I just had a great bowl of soup and a simple and delicious peameal on a bun.

Chui C.

Yelp
We ordered 1 family Fish & Chips combo & 1/2 Sandwich lunch special. The Fish & Chips are delicious! For desserts, we ordered the Lemon Meringue & Butter tart. The Lemon Meringue is light & yummy but the butter tart is a little bit too sweet for us. Overall, we love this place & will be visited again next time if we are in this area.

Yelp
This is a diner style restaurant. Great fish and chips! And definitely a place to go for an awesome inexpensive breakfast!

Yelp
Haddock and chips were delicious! Lovely family owned restaurant. Fresh homemade desserts just like mom used to make. My husband and I will be back soon!!

Yelp
Great fish and chips! Moroccan stew was a real find! Clean, courteous and crisp service. Fair pricing. We will be back!

Yelp
Nice quality fish and chips. Location is a bit off the main downtown area. Great for takeaway.

Yelp
Decent food for a fair price. Usually get the fish and chips and I'm rarely disappointed. Especially good for families.

Yelp
we went to Westside fish and chips while staying in Huntsville for few days -and it was the best decision ever! The place is cozy-with the country feeling , staff was friendly and attentive-and best of all the food was very tasty . Fish was superbly done, fries were crunchy and tasty ... great value for families ! they even added few extra pieces to the family sized order -we could not even finish the fries and they were so delish ..the fish pieces were good size for us -we were too full to try the desert but from what i noticed served on other tables they looked really yummie- everything was really good- definitely recommend and we would come back again- anytime we are in the area :)

Stefanie A.

Yelp
Best resto in Huntsville! Wish we'd found it sooner. Food was amazingly cheap and delicious after a day of hiking in Algonquin. Best fish and chips and pie I've had in ages! Cute ambiance and great service. Six stars!
