Google
Great hike with multiple trails that vary in difficulty. Beautiful views of the Napa Valley filled with bird songs and the fragrance of the woods. You'll love it! Parking is a bit savage though.

Google
I love hiking this mountain. There are various trails that wrap around the mountain. The most popular trail is the one that leads directly to the top lookout. A humbling view. Beautiful! This is one of my favorite hikes to engage in.

Google
Such a wonderful hike for sunrise or sunset just stunning is not too long but you can go on different roads and make it a bit longer. Is pet friendly, and always parking available, I enjoy it so much and love to share it with my Napa Valley friends who are fit or like me always trying to be more fit.

Google
What a great workout!!! Had a blast hiking with some girlfriends on the weekend. I’ve lived 5 minutes from this park for 4 years and the rumors of it being really steep stoped me from going. It wasn’t that bad! Amazing views when you reach the summit too! Well worth the effort.

Google
This is a great place to hike. Very challenging for those who need a little challenge to get the heart ❤ going. Best trees for photo taking, wonderful spring flowers in bloom that smell heavenly! But when ALL is said & done the view is the best, looking out over Napa at the top of the hill while sitting on a bench is breath taking.

Google
It’s a great place to hike up and get a view of Napa and some vineyards. Very short but lots of fun.

Google
Great hike, fantastic view and good workout. This trail brings you to a breathtaking view point to the west of the city of Napa. The trail is well kept, nice, clear, clean. Saw some people with their young kids just enjoying the weather.

Google
A nice short hike with a great Napa view from the hill top.

Yelp
There are several different great trails at Westwood Hills and quite steep at certain points so you'll get a good workout. Small parking lot at the base but if it's full there's plenty of street parking as well. A couple of picnic tables are also at the base along with a nature museum. Definitely bring water with you as there are no water spouts/fountains on any of the trails. Closed toed shoes are a must as possion ivy is present along with blackberry bushes. Most of the trails provide plentry of shade and pretty foliage. Views of the whole Napa Valley await you at the top (with a couple of benches to take a nice rest). Some days a layer of fog will sit above the valley but that usually burns off by late morning. You'll come across lots of dogs and kids so this place is good for all.
google avatar

Yelp
Peaceful hiking trail that is mostly uphill. Choosing the Summit Trail, you will arrive at the Vista Point. There are benches to enjoy the view before making your way back down.
google avatar

Yelp
What a wonderful park! Easy to park the Sprinter van, put on my boots and go for a fabulous morning walk. Sadly, too overcast this morning to enjoy the view . But the trails are pretty well traveled so I wasn't concerned about getting lost. Other folks hiking were friendly and there are spot along the way to sit and enjoy the greenery. Leashed dogs are permitted. On a Sunday morning, extremely peaceful. Yes, there are some port-a-potties but that's about it. Plan ahead. [Review 21005 overall - 522 in California - 1990 of 2023.]

Yelp
Love this spot for hiking! Much of it is uphill and the views at the top are worth the effort! During rainy season please be aware of the slippery conditions
google avatar

Don L.

Yelp
Great hiking spot in Napa!!! Nice views at the top and the beginning starts with a big incline.

Yelp
Okay, this hike was a hilarious adventure and disaster all in one. Not well-marked, full of those Velcro-style plants, my sister-in-law and I somehow meandered off trail to this trail alongside a fence that, it turned out, was not a trail at all. Ended up carrying my dog up a straight-up steep hill to find the opening finally onto a real trail. Thank goodness we were okay! This park needs better-marked trails, but I will admit: it made for a hilarious experience. Check out my Velcro plant-covered pants. You can only imagine what my dog looked like (cut to two hours of picking through his fur).

Yelp
A great place to hike and go birding in Napa, especially if you enjoy some shade along the trail.
google avatar

Emma E.

Yelp
Westwood Hills Park is such a wonderful hidden gem. The hills are nice and steep, and there's plentiful tree coverage, which results in most of the trails being shaded and cool. The trails are well maintained. The view from the top is an incredible, sweeping view of Napa, and there are benches you can sit on to rest and take in all the beauty. The parking lot is often full, but I typically run into only a few other hikers or runners. It often feels like you're on your own private trail, which is relaxing, and they get bonus points from me for being dog friendly. Heads up to doggo owners: there are a lot of foxtails along the various trails during the spring and summer, so be careful where your furry friend treads.

Yelp
I didn't know what to expect when exploring this place. It starts with some uphills and trails that break off pretty early (lots of choices!) there wasn't really a map and there were some markers but most without names or info. We stayed on the path to go straight (and uphill) until we found a sign that said "trail". Kept going up and sure enough there were some cool views of Napa and some benches to take a break. Descending back down, we took a variety of trails, up and down, through the woods and in the sun. I thoroughly enjoyed the variety! I'd welcome going back and to try other trails. Parking is very limited (parking lot) There is side road parking One portable potty - no hand wash area. There was a hand sanitizer dispenser but it was empty. We did see a few dogs (please pick up after your fur kids) Wear a mask, there are some narrow trails/paths
google avatar

Sheryl M.

Yelp
We hiked here today with the pup for about 45 minutes. There were nice views, it wasn't crowded and they had a water fountain for the dogs! It starts on a wide fire trail and then smaller trails branch off. We didn't know where to go so we just walked! It worked out that we made our way back to the car. I don't think it would be easy to get too lost here. It was a great workout.

Yelp
Beautiful place for a moderate to intense hike. Great place to walk with friends. There are lots of different trails to take so I'd recommend using the all trails app to help yourself navigate this place. The hill to the top is challenging but so worth it. Gorgeous views with lots of beautiful trees and vineyard next door. I'd recommend hiking shoes, hiking sticks, or shoes with a really good grip. My tennis were challenging and I slipped once on the dusty, downhill trail.
google avatar

Jessica R.

Yelp
I've never done a review for any hiking parks before.. All I can say it's the views around this place are so breath taking! There are some spots where you can see a whole field of wine vineyards and a cute barn and home. Another side, you'll see an over view of Napa. We low key got lost while going back down because we wanted to be "adventurous" and we came across a tree that was a part of Calvin Klein panties hanging... pretty fun! (Wonder if it's still there LOL) We will be hiking here again soon!

Yelp
Great view of Napa Valley. About a 20 minute steep hike up. No bathrooms. Bring water, wear mosquito spray. Breathtaking view. 3 benches at the top to rest. Easy walk down

Yelp
A great spot to hike right in my backyard, and I never knew it existed until this weekend! Westwood Hills Park is located right off of First Street, on what is more or less than most important street in Napa proper. Oxbow Market? On First. Downtown? On First. The outlets? Right off of First. Westwood Hills? Right. Also on First! It's a small park managed by the city of Napa, but makes for a great spot to get some hiking in on the weekend. There's a bit of an incline at the beginning, so dress accordingly! It wasn't warm, by any means, last weekend, but shorts would have been preferred. I definitely worked up a sweat! Once you get to the top, you get a great view of Napa. It's crazy to look out on the city and see how far away everything looks from that vantage point. Turn around and you'll notice the hills of Sonoma County and grapevines galore. There are a ton of trails to go to, and it almost feels like a "choose your own adventure" type of trail. It can be a bit confusing to navigate and there aren't many signs, which knocks it down from 5 stars to 4, but if you keep at it, you'll either run into a fence and have to turn around, or you'll inevitably find your way back to where you need to be. A sign up from says a mountain lion had been spotted in the area, but no sighting this weekend! Expect to hear a bunch of birds singing, though the shaded cover from trees may make them hard to catch sight of, too. I'll definitely be back, and next time I'll plan to dress accordingly!

Yelp
This is a lovely treat that Wine Country gives us. Beautiful scenery over looking Napa. I really enjoyed myself out there. I most definitely recommend this park for all of your outdoor adventures. Rather it be a run, hike, walking your dog. Or just some quiet time away from the city on some self reflecting time. This is the perfect spot for you! But don't take my word for it! Go see for yourself!
google avatar

Grace C.

Yelp
Don't go out of your way for this hike. Try it if you're (a) in the area and (b) have nothing better to do & want to kill some time. My family and I weren't that impressed with this hike because: * There were multiple forks in the path without clear markings as to where to go to see the view. * Cow pies were everywhere. We had to stare at the ground constantly, making it difficult to enjoy the views while hiking. * The views of Napa were partially blocked by trees. Tips: * This hike has a few moderately uphill areas, which can be pretty slippery (pebbles, loose sandy dirt) on the way down, so be careful! * Your shoes and pants (or socks if you're wearing shorts) will get pretty dirty. Even hiking a short distance will result in tons of dirt being kicked up & sticking to your shoes and the bottoms of your pants.

Yelp
This place will bring you internal harmony reminiscent of a wild forest. Tall trees fresh air and numerous trails you can choose from depending on your own abilities. Come enjoy a walk with the whole family you will have a blast gliding through challenging trails. Bring a picnic basket take advantage of the picnic tables available on the way up. One's you reach the peak take pleasure in the prepossessing view. I definitely recommend this place to anyone trails are easy enough for a beginner to take and there's a small parking lot but plenty of street walking as well. It brings me delight to share this small paradise in the middle of the city with you all enjoy.

Yelp
When I first moved to Napa over four years ago, Westwood Hills was where I hiked. But before I knew it I was up in north Napa and I spent the next three years hiking at Alston Park. Well, I'm finally back! I recently moved downtown and WWH is a short drive up First street. The park is a real surprise. The hills are steep and plentiful. The huge shade trees and steep ravines remind me of hikes I've taken in the mountains. And though there are always cars in the lot and plenty of Napans enjoying the park, I rarely run into others. It feels like my own park and the hikes are very meditative. The trees are full of squirrels and songbirds. I see a gorgeous hawk hunting every time I'm there. My favorite time to hike is around dusk when the deer are all out having their evening meal! It is a sanctuary for everyone! The view from the top is extraordinary. One direction is the city of Napa and the other is gorgeous rolling hills and vineyards. At the parking lot there is also the Carolyn Parr Nature Center. It is free and offers education about our local wildlife. They offer classes about our local environment for a small fee of $5 and donations are always welcome! There are no fees to hike and when the small parking lot fills up there is parking along the street. I love the park and plan to visit often!
google avatar

Mandy B.

Yelp
Great park to hike! Hills are challenging and once you get to the top (not even a mile) there are fantastic views. I took my children and we found a wonderful tree to play under, complete with a swing. I could easily spend every day at this park, it's beautiful!
google avatar

Vanessa H.

Yelp
Beautiful uphill trails. Get to the top for some breathtaking views of the city of Napa.
google avatar

Kari E.

Yelp
Great place to go for a little hike between wineries. Small parking lot with plenty of street parking nearby. Nice view of the valley from the top, lots of little trails through trees, a couple places with benches to sit and enjoy the view.
google avatar

Kenny R.

Yelp
You walk a mile in either direction and you're on private property. Nice place to hang out, though. The cows stroll around after dark which can be kind of trippy if you just got done smoking a bowl. But the cows should be the only thing that you will see after sunset (besides the occasional gnome looking for mushrooms) since it's closed to the public at that time. If you stick to the main trail on a clear day and walk and walk and walk (about a mile uphill), then you will have a terrific view of all of Napa - all the cars look really small and insignificant. This is the Grand Canyon of Napa County.
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
Get ready for a hike...a very substantial one! It's a bit steep so if you can appreciate getting a real workout out of your hike then you've picked the right spot. I loved that there are tons of trails that go all over the park leading you to a bunch of different spots with gorgeous views of the rolling hills across the beautiful Napa valley. I love to take the dogs and have a picnic here. Typically we get sandwiches and such from Browns Valley Market (http://www.yelp.com/biz/browns-valley-market-napa#hrid:LR1yQKCVU94TMVXy2FngSg) down the road.
google avatar

Joan T.

Yelp
Beautiful hiking path in Napa! I love getting some fresh air where it's just nature all around! This is definitely a nice beginner hiker path. The trails can get pretty steep, but it's nothing that a beginner can't do. Do be careful coming down though. The park has a relatively small parking lot.. I think it only fits like 12-16 cars? No worries if you can't find parking because there is lots of street parking! There are picnic tables on the way in if you just want a nice place to eat your lunch. (: And yes, it is in the shade. Once you begin the hike, you'll find a gate that may look like the park is closed.. but don't worry it's not. You're going to have to squeeze through the small opening on the right or you can play like you're trespassing. Up to you. The latter def requires a lil bit more skill. Once you're through, it's pure freedom. There are so many paths that you can go on. Up, down, flat, etc. etc. You pick! Everything will loop back around it seems like. (: I think my friends and I just decided to keep going up. The view is amazing on top! Don't worry if you get tired because there are lots of benches around. (: And you don't even have to choose the same path to go down, explore a smaller path and be careful of muddy paths in the shaded paths. Oh and do be careful of skunks. I think that's what ended our hike. Haha. Come here if you just want to get away and clear your mind. Perfect if you're doing a getaway from a big city. One day of wine tasting, and one day of a good beautiful hike. (:
google avatar

Heidi L.

Yelp
Ah, there's nothing better than that clean nature air filling my lungs, that fresh smell of wood and dirt, sunlight peeking through the trees...the strange sounds of creaking floor boards...the ropes hanging from high branches...WHOA NOW, say what?! ::cue creepy/eerie music:: Yes, there are ropes hanging from multiple tree branches...sans skeletons thankfully. It is quite creepy but if you can avoid looking up and just straight ahead the rest of the way, the easy hike is quite pleasant. On a sunny day, the view from the top is nice but consists mostly of the city and not so much of vineyards.
google avatar

Mark C.

Yelp
Everything else I did in Napa pales in comparison to running up and around these steep hills each morning.
google avatar

Leslie B.

Yelp
I walk it before 7 am, and it can get a little nervous out there alone. But walk there from home to the top of the hiill. Love the walk and the climb. It is an hour walk for me and always find something to take a picture of, usually the cows :) Watch out for poison oak.
google avatar

Bruce C.

Yelp
Get there before 8am or after 11am and it'll be relatively empty, plenty of non-mainstream paths so you can always find a route that is mostly empty. I used to hike this place every other day from June to August and I never once saw any cows but I have been told by others that they are there. Head on over to Browns Valley Market down the road for some great food as well.
google avatar

Jared L.

Yelp
This is an easy hike but has great views of Napa. The trails are very wide and would be great for kids. If your looking for a quick hike this is the place to go!
google avatar

Shawna S.

Yelp
WestWood Hills Park is a park mostly for hiking. You hike to the top and see a view of the entire napa. It is open from sunrise to sunset. No camping allowed. Beautiful sights though. Sometimes there will be cows at the top, or at the bottom, or in between all the trees. The parking lot is very small, it can only hold about 10-12 cars. No worries though, as the park is never really all that crowded. There has been many times where ill go and have the entire park to myself, which is nice once you get to the top to just relax and enjoy the view without a bunch of loud people around you.
google avatar

V. L.

Yelp
Nice and spacious hiking trails, we felt like we were the only people hiking for most of the time. Nice steep hills so you can feel the burn, cows roaming freely, nicely shaded parts, open range areas, and 2 tree swings to round out this great place. They allow dogs, everyone we met was friendly and nice, and the top of the trail had a beautiful view of downtown Napa, with soaring big winged birds flying up above.

jane w.

Yelp
NOT AN EASY OR BEGINNERS TRAIL!!! I've done other trails and this is not easy. No water on trail and very hard to find even footing. View was only after climbing nonstop. Not going back.
google avatar

Chrysanthemum A.

Yelp
Westwood Hills Park is an underrated Napa Valley destination. It's got a strenuous hike, a few picnic tables, and a nearby nature center. Be prepared for the hike- bring along some hydration. The park is in the West Napa Fault Zone, but unlike hikes along the more famous San Andreas in Palo Alto&Pt. Reyes, it's not marked. There are no blue pillars along active fault traces. Still, it's a fun, strenuous hike with spectacular views. On a clear day, you can see the entire Napa Valley, look south towards San Francisco, the Bay, Mt. Diablo, west to Mt. Tam, and north to Mt. St. Helena. A beautiful place.
google avatar

Ashley J.

Yelp
GREATTTTTTT!!!!! my best friend and i love this place. Easy walk, great views and a good place to just BE! i like all of the friendly people we meet up there. Believe me when you get to the top its really the place to be :) The climb is worth it!!! 2 thumbs up!

Yelp
Westwood Hills Park is just three blocks from my house and I have been there many times. It is one of the best spots in Napa for a short hike. You could cover most of the park in just one hour. The trail to the top of the hill from the parking lot is fairly steep, but shaded much of the way. Parts of it will have you huffing and puffing. The view from the top is fabulous. There are several alternate trails back to the parking lot or to take you to less visited areas. Round trip to the top and back is about 45 minutes. There is another entrance on the backside off Laurel street. This trail tends to be more challenging. -The park is safe during typically busy periods. I would not recommend it to women by themselves in late evenings or venturing into the less used trails. I am comfortable when my wife hikes there alone. -Their have been some of the human critters up their in the past, but seems better now. -Dogs must be on leash. -Mountain Lions have been spotted here, but I personally think you are more likely to be killed or injured on the drive to the park than by a lion. -There is no drinking water or bathrooms. -The parking lot is small, but there is plenty of street parking.
google avatar

Madeleine M.

Yelp
Beautiful views of Napa! It's a pretty quick hike to the top of the park. That could be a plus if you have dogs or kids or are looking for a good walk, but a minus if you're doing this for more of a workout. The parking lot is small and not easy to get out of if you don't find a spot so try parking on the street for the beginning!
google avatar

MaryFran L.

Yelp
My husband thought he was following the trail. All the reviews he'd read said this was a nice "walk in the park." So, I was NOT prepared for steep, narrow, poison oak-lined trails. I had on normal running shoes, so fairly sensible for the kind of walking I expected, but still the trails we ended up on were so steep, I slipped twice downhill, and had to be dragged up one of the inclines. We obviously got off the main trail, but we were not at all the first who'd gone this way - the trail was well worn. If only there had been a sign post or two along the way, I might have had the "lovely park" experience others had had. Instead, I left sore and determined to warn fellow non-strenuous walkers to be careful.
google avatar

Keith R.

Yelp
While Westwood hills park is slightly over rated, it does provide some great views of the city of Napa. Lots of tall mature tree and various side trails. There tends to be a lot of shady people in the afternoon/ evening so be careful around nightfall.

Isaias A.

Yelp
One of the best hikes I've ever experienced. You should try to go with a bunch of friends, it is always fun this way. You can walk your dogs and there's endless routes to take. some routes need a little more safety precautions and there's cows everywhere. Other than that it's a fun little experience worth taking. * If you take your time.. Estimated time (round trip) 1 hour. * Bikers are welcome with some side paths to take. * Picnic tables are set on the top of the hill.
google avatar

Tristan F.

Yelp
Westwood Hills was a nice hike for me and the kids to take, a bit warm if it is mid-day in the sun but avoid the cows and you should be good. It is a bit dry right now so slippery coming down the hill on the gravel. It was a bit odd to feel like I had just walked onto someone's property though. We ended up turning around because I felt like at any moment someone would show up with a shotgun telling us to get off their property. The cows not being fenced in and having free reign made the walk interesting to avoid stepping in anything unpleasant but all in all, it was a good hike and getting to the top with the incredible view of the valley was worth it. Avoid the bee hive on the way up and you should be good.
google avatar

Jon L.

Yelp
Great park for hiking and views of Napa. Steep and steeper, but worth it.
google avatar

Coco L.

Yelp
Parts of the hike can be pretty steep but it's decent hike. A good view of Napa, and something different than only winery
google avatar

Pom P.

Yelp
My Family and I had a wonderful time. Absolutely gorgeous park to visit and hike. My four year old is not a big fan of hiking, but now she wants to go back to Westwood Hills Park. The only thing that annoyed me is the front entrance by the parking lot I saw a trash littered on the grass. Obviously, its not visually pleasing, but once you go "inside" its gets more beautiful.
google avatar

Yelp
Westwood Hills Park is great for Visitors and Locals who are seeking a quick fun hike. The hike is easy - moderate with great views of Napa. It is located close to Central Napa and is free. Check out this site for more information and photo's http://www.napahiking.com/westwood_hills_park_napa.htm

Yelp
Very nice though very small park near downtown Napa. I mean small for sure. Takes about an hour to traverse the whole thing. Lots of fine examples of tne native trees, shrubs and grasses and a very nice view of the city of Napa up top. A great place to stretch your legs and do that quick powerhike. Beautiful like most of Napa. Right next door there is the Carolyn Parr Nature Museum with many interesting exhibits about the native Napans and about our history. Just another 100 yards or so down the street is a minature farm with animals and birds and such for the kid in all of us. Great place to take a breather from the hectic lives we live. Enjoy them all. Free except for donations.

Molly H.

Yelp
A good quick hike. It's best for a bit of scenic exercise and is not a "day hike", more like an hour hike. There are lots of forks but the main route is fairly obvious and if you don't take it, nothing bad will happen. The view at the top is a nice reward.

John A.

Yelp
Surprisingly steep hike for a city park! Very close to downtown. We only walked to top of hill and back (45 min), but there were many alternate trails one could explore. Woods, grassland, and great views.
