Absolutely fantastic experience at Wētā Workshop. The tour was the highlight — incredibly engaging, informative, and packed with behind-the-scenes insight into how some of the world’s most iconic films were brought to life. Our guide was knowledgeable, funny, and clearly passionate, which made the whole experience even better. Seeing the props, costumes, and practical effects up close was amazing, and the hands-on elements really brought the storytelling and craftsmanship to life. Whether you’re a film buff or just curious, this tour is 100% worth it. A must-do in Wellington!

We had an amazing tour with our guide Christina - she was very friendly and knowledgeable! The tour is fantastic, not only just for Lord of the Rings fans, and I actually learnt about so many films I did not realise Weta had worked on - which is now our goal to watch all of these films! We had opportunities to meet some of the artists that worked at Weta and chat about their experiences, and there were plenty of times to get hands on with the exhibits! 10/10 would recommend - and would come back! Honestly could have spent hours upon hours here!

As a lifelong Lord of the Rings fan, visiting Weta Workshop wasn't just a tour; it was a pilgrimage. From the moment we were greeted by the massive Trolls outside the "Weta Cave," I knew this was going to be special. The guided tour is an absolute must. Walking through the workshop, you aren't just looking at props; you are witnessing the birth of Middle-earth. Seeing the authentic Shards of Narsil and the terrifyingly detailed Sauron’s armor up close gave me goosebumps. The craftsmanship is unbelievable—the chainmail, the elven leaf brooches, the weight of the swords... it brings the movies to reality in a way a screen never could. A major highlight was the "Windows into Workshop" section. Seeing actual artists working on current projects made me appreciate the sheer human effort behind the magic. Our guide was clearly a fan too, sharing behind-the-scenes secrets about how they used forced perspective and miniatures (like the incredible Treebeard model!) to build Tolkien’s world. For the fans: Yes, there are "no photo" zones, but honestly, it makes you be present in the moment. Standing face-to-face with a full-scale Uruk-hai is a memory I will never forget. The Weta Cave shop afterwards is dangerous for your wallet—so many high-quality collectibles! If you love the trilogy, you cannot come to Wellington and miss this. It is the beating heart of New Zealand's film legacy.

The last day of 2025 I went to Weta workshop with my family, in comparison of the weta workshop with the beehive tour, the weta workshop has definitely shone and showed why it’s the best tourist attraction in Wellington. The very start of the tour was very great seeing suits from movies like the power rangers, wandering earth and robotic props and many more. Weaponry from the lord of the rings and capes and costume that I really didn’t expect. There’s a showcase of how they make costume and a skin for the actors, even though you cannot take photos for the first part, it is really recommended to see what there are. Crazy things there are from films like avatar, alien, and futuristic sci fi films and concept art. There are a lot of secret eggs and details that the tour guide shows. There’s a section where you can craft stuff with tin foil, overall with lots of famous showcasing’s, nice interactions with a lot of swords, weapons which were actually on set and even an Oscar trophy. This was really worth it despite the high prices, good storytelling and excellent props and costumes displayed, I can tell the people actually like their job either as guide or working within the workshop which is there actually work location for the films they participate in. With a very lowkey exterior, the interior and experience is stunning, nothing got boring even for someone with a low attention span like me.

I definitely recommend this stop for those interested in films or pop culture in general. Our tour guide, Bailey, was clearly passionate about the work the team does and was happy to answer any of our questions about the process for creating prosthetics and how the team creates these pieces. Highly recommend checking this out if you're in Wellington or even coming out to New Zealand for!

What a special experience to be standing in the place where movie magic has been in the making for so long! We got to see countless priceless original props and heard lots of interesting insider stories about their creation and on set use. If you love movies and are interested in the behind-the-scenes and making-off, this is a place you don't wanna miss!

Visiting Weta Workshop was an incredible experience and a must-do for any movie fan. ​Our excellent guides, Kenny and Tuesday, truly brought the magic of filmmaking to life. Kenny was on day 3, this did show a little as he kept his book in front of his face when he went nervy, however, their passion, knowledge, and behind-the-scenes stories kept the whole group engaged—easily one of the best tours I've ever been on. ​A definite highlight was the demo of tinfoil crafting, which was absolutely amazing to witness. It's incredible to see the level of detail and artistry that goes into creating miniature props and concepts. The demonstration really showcases the sheer talent of the Weta crew. Now introducing this in the school where I teach. Hope some students get jobs at Weta. ​If you're on the fence about visiting, I say take the plunge! It's a journey into creativity, and you certainly shall not pass up this opportunity. ​Overall, it’s a brilliant way to spend an afternoon and get up close with some truly iconic movie history.

FIrst off, I actually had a reservation for the next day but came in hopes they could fit me in, and I was added to the very next tour. Awesome service. Christina (I hope I spelled her name right!) was AMAZING as a tour guide. She made sure to speak personally with every single guest on the tour, and managed to stay on time. I thought all of the tour was so well done. It was so special to be able to see things only accessible on the tour (no photos allowed!), and to dive deeper into the historical legacy of this creative business. Also Hazel was very helpful to me in the gift shop and dug through the storage to find me the right sized shirt. You have the best staff! They make me wish I was one of the crew. :)
