WG Cafe

Nice restaurant to have a bite before going to the theatre. The service is super friendly. The acoustic is a bit loud when sitting in the back which makes it hard to focus. Pumpkin soup was nice.

A very “gezellig” cafe. Old European/Dutch style. Pleasantly surprised by how good the food was (also great portions!) — I had the couscous meal salad with extra smoked chicken and enjoyed it a lot. My friend ordered the pesto pasta and was pleased with it as well. Will definitely come back to this gem! Would be nice to check out their terrace in the summer time.

I attended a birthday party here. It was quite nice and relaxing. A lot of space in a unique area in Oud-West. We didn’t get dinner but had snacks. A lot of beer options too.

Great for beers, skip the food. 16,50 for nachos with some sauce-from-a-jar? not acceptable, not even in ams.

Nice cafe, with friendly waiters, good beer selection and a surprisingly tasty choice of menus.

I spent a very pleasant evening in Wg Cafe (short for Wohnung Gesellschaft) with my colleague. We met to enjoy some delightful local beers and discuss the past, present, and most importantly, the future of the great American Novel. We reached the conclusion that none other than Don Delilo’s Underworld is most probably the last one we will have the pleasure to read during our lifetimes… We are open for discussion

We came in the evening. Would not recommend to have anything more than beers here. They forgot 3 of our dishes (apparently due to an issue in the system where the orders disappeared, even though they wrote down our order on paper). The apple pie came from the fridge/freezer and was not served at room temperature. One of the orders came out wrong, and they corrected it promptly - however, the corrected dish was still not according to the menu (missing ingredients like chicken/feta). When informing the waitress, she seemed confused and disinterested in the mistakes. In the end the food was ok. Maybe the staff is new, and they seemed understaffed and overwhelmed. For sure a bad night can happen anywhere but, for the prices, the level of service was just really subpar.

We went to WG because we wanted a place in the neighborhood that served both burgers and nachos, that we hadn't been to before. The lunch menu is definitely reasonably priced and they have a decent selection of beers. I do think coming here has its merits. The wifi is free. It's pretty quiet. So if you want to set up shop here for a bit, maybe order an affordable lunch and linger then this would be a spot to consider, as most other free wifi places near Overtoom or Bilderdijkstraat can get pretty hectic. But here are my warnings: 1. The service was very slow, which I've become accustomed to in the city and I actually like taking my time eating but it was 13h on a Friday afternoon. There's a certain tolerable time frame to get a burger and nachos out. But what really bothered me was that the waitress decided to eat lunch during that time and clearly the priority was feeding herself and preparing her own drinks versus serving our dishes or attending to our order (the restaurant itself had maybe two other patrons at that time). We reminded her that we were still waiting for a drink, she acknowledged, and then prepared herself her own beverage, took a sip, then poured ours. Ugh. 2. The burger looked like a Burger King burger. A Whopper JR to be exact.

A mate was working there so when I wanted to see him, I had to stop by when its not busy. The layout is nice. Beer good as expected. Food very nice. You won't be disappointed there.

This is going to be a dessert review. Although WG has plenty of good and creative main dishes and Ive probably eaten a few over the years, what I love best is their hot chocolate and their pie selection. First, the hot chocolate, though sometimes the bar tender sticks me with the Chocomel crap, most of the time I get the pure chocolate kind, with a choice of dark, white, or milk choco. I appreciate that very much. Then there is the apple pie. It is very good and they warm it up and put a lil whipped cream on the side. Its in my Top 5 apple pies in this city. There's also cheesecake sometimes, quite good. I've seen chocolate cake in the display as well, but since Ive already got my hot chocolate, I never choose it. In short- I love an evening dessert stop at WG cafe.

The WG Cafe is a great spot, any time of the day! Great salads, lekker bier, and goooood wifi.

Wonderful pub type atmosphere and fully Dutch. Great patio in the middle of a neighborhood courtyard. Local families and kids all over the place...in a great way. No music outside thank god. Just sound of people enjoying friends and family. Wait staff is friendly,inviting, and local.
