Lovely little museum, easy for children to be entertained while learning about whales. My children really enjoyed the mini submarine which took them on an underwater adventure seeing all sorts of marine life. It also has a bunch of buttons/knobs to touch. This was great as it gave us opportunity to look at the other displays while our children were kept busy. Good for about 15-20minutes with small children. There are other interactive displays for the children too. (Puzzles, iPad games, listening to whales etc)

The Hermanus Whale Museum is an absolute gem that offers a delightful and educational experience for visitors of all ages. Nestled in the picturesque town of Hermanus, this charming museum provides a fascinating insight into the world of whales and their marine environment. The museum's exhibits are thoughtfully curated, blending interactive displays with informative panels that captivate both young and old. The highlight for many, especially children, is the small submarine exhibit that features an engaging video, making it feel like one is truly submerged beneath the ocean waves. Beyond the main museum, your ticket also grants you access to the adjacent photography house, which is a nostalgic addition to the visit. This cozy spot showcases a collection of historical and contemporary photographs, capturing the essence of Hermanus and its rich maritime heritage. It's a wonderful opportunity to see some familiar faces and places through the lens of time, adding a personal touch to the overall experience. Furthermore, a short stroll down to the old Harbour reveals another quaint room filled with maritime treasures. This area is brimming with artifacts and displays that offer a deeper dive into the local history and the whale-watching culture that Hermanus is renowned for. The entire setup is well-thought-out, making it easy for visitors to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of whales while enjoying the scenic beauty of the coastal town. A visit to the Hermanus Whale Museum is not just an educational outing but a heartwarming journey that leaves lasting memories for the whole family.

This is mostly for children and persons who has little or no knowledge of the marine mammals of the oceans. The highlight, especially for children, is the small submarine exhibit that features an engaging video where they can feel that they are truly submerged beneath the ocean waves. The ticket is valid for the following: 1. The photographic museum (not many videos, photos are allowed) 2. Whale museum 3. Old Habour museum

The Whale Museum, located in center of Hermanus, is a great option to add to your sightseeing itinerary. It is a small museum with informative and interactive exhibits providing fun for all ages. One of the exhibits included a miniature submarine which you can get into as well as another one where you can listen to different whale sounds. The entrance fee was very reasonable at R30 for adults and R10 for children and as it is close to other attractions and restaurants I definitely think it is worth a visit, even just a quick one.

There's so much to learn in this small space that you feel overloaded, but still come away with the sense of the magnificence of these great creatures. The displays are well put together and gives you a scale of just how enormous whales are, but also that they operate in family groups. I didn't see any offer of guided tours but the museum is well-laid out for visitors. Kids can also enjoy it.

Just wanted to share my visit to the Whale Museum in Hermanus. It’s only 30 rands to get in, which is super cheap. The place is small but quite lovely with some cool whale exhibits. Honestly though, there isn’t much to do. It got a bit boring after a while, and some of the interactive stuff wasn’t working. Still, if you're in Hermanus and have some time to kill, it's worth a quick visit, especially if you like marine life.

The kids loved it. There's not too much to see, it's very small. There's a lot of reading, but also some fun sounds to listen to, an example of a submarine, puzzles, and games for the kids. It's also super cheap, and you get to go to the photography museum and shark museum with one ticket
