Western Australia for the Food Is the Next Great Food Lover's Destination

"A family-run whale-watch operator that takes guests to a spot called the Patch about 19 nautical miles offshore, where a resident population of coastal orcas surfaces daily between January and March. The guide, Gemma Sharp, narrates with a hushed, taut style, knows individuals by name (the pod is led by matriarch Queenie), and recalled dramatic encounters — including the time multiple orca families joined forces to kill a blue whale — warning that "Hunts are exciting," and adding later, "Every day is a bit of a storyline." - Kevin West Kevin West Kevin West is a writer, food consultant, and “canning evangelist” (according to NPR). He’s the author of the cookbook “Saving the Season,” and his work has appeared in Travel + Leisure, Martha Stewart Living, Condé Nast Traveler, Bon Appétit, and Food & Wine. Great day on the water we got to see so many whales coming right up and around the boat. The boat wasn’t overly crowded which was great. The staff were fabulous and very attentive. Options to buy snacks and drinks on the boat available. Overall, we had a really great time and were so happy we saw the whales.

I had the most amazing whale watching experience in Perth! The moment we set out to sea, the view itself was breathtaking, but what truly made it unforgettable were the whales. They were so majestic yet surprisingly friendly, swimming so close to our boat and even circling around us as if to say hello. It felt magical watching these gentle giants in their natural habitat, diving gracefully and then surfacing with such power and elegance. The whole trip was filled with excitement, joy, and a sense of awe that words can hardly describe. If you’re visiting Perth, this is an absolute must-do. It’s not just a tour, it’s a memory that will stay with you forever.

We had a really good family experience with whale watching WA. It was very easy booking and well organised. The staff and crew were really friendly and professional. We all felt very safe. The vessel was amazing. Large boat with great inside facilities and seating and plenty of outdoor seats for the trip. And most importantly we saw so many whales! They seemed to love us and circle the boat over and over. They came very close and all round we thought the experience was well worth the money. We highly recommend the tour!

Our family had the most wonderful time on our trip yesterday. The crew stayed out longer than planned because we had an incredible encounter with a pod of 4 humpback whales on our way back. We not only appreciated the hospitality and expert commentary but also how respectful they are of the whales and of the guests. It’s really a must-do tripin Western Australia

We had an absolutely amazing afternoon whale watching. All the staff were so lovely, friendly and knowledgeable and imparted their knowledge to us explaining the various pods to us and where they are in their migration cycle. The boat us very comfortable and plenty of places to sit. We are already planning another trip We enjoyed it so much. Thank you everyone.

Pros: staff are friendly and provided good service, very detailed, professional explanation. The ship is more agile and very clean window. Cons: although it claim 100% can see the whale, it did not guarantee you can see it clearly. In my case, we only saw the water pumping out from whale for 4 times and see a small piece of tail from distances (the video I attached is the best I can see). Since the ocean condition is so bad that I don't think it is worth to spend this amount of effort and cost to see this. The crews did offer 50% off for next ride. But as a overseas tourist I know I won't be able to use it.

We had the BEST day today! We got lucky with the weather so it was a beautiful sunny and smooth trip out to the whale watching area. The whales were initially a bit elusive and we had to be patient but as we ventured closer to Rottnest Island we found a pod of four curious and playful young whales who were only too happy to mill around our boat. They stayed with us for around half an hour repeatedly swimming around and under the boat giving us great opportunities to observe and photograph them. The commentary was next level, well paced and informative, demonstrating intimate knowledge of the whale pods in the area and describing their behaviour which was incredibly interesting. The crew in general were very welcoming and friendly making sure everyone onboard was looked after and comfortable. I could not rate this experience any higher ! Thank you
