Western Australia for the Food Is the Next Great Food Lover's Destination

"A family-run whale-watch operator that takes guests to a spot called the Patch about 19 nautical miles offshore, where a resident population of coastal orcas surfaces daily between January and March. The guide, Gemma Sharp, narrates with a hushed, taut style, knows individuals by name (the pod is led by matriarch Queenie), and recalled dramatic encounters — including the time multiple orca families joined forces to kill a blue whale — warning that "Hunts are exciting," and adding later, "Every day is a bit of a storyline." - Kevin West Kevin West Kevin West is a writer, food consultant, and “canning evangelist” (according to NPR). He’s the author of the cookbook “Saving the Season,” and his work has appeared in Travel + Leisure, Martha Stewart Living, Condé Nast Traveler, Bon Appétit, and Food & Wine. We’ve had an unforgettable whale watching experience in Fremantle! We visited in October 2025, and the weather was perfect. The view of the Perth city skyline from the water was absolutely stunning a must-see for both locals and tourists. The tour goes 15–20 minutes from Fremantle’s shore, which is ideal if you’re prone to seasickness like me — the waters were calm, and I felt completely comfortable throughout the trip. We were lucky to witness three pods of whales playing together, around 15 whales in total. Seeing them so close and observing their playful behavior was truly surreal !! A once in a lifetime experience. The crew were friendly and extremely knowledgeable, sharing fascinating insights about whale behavior and the marine environment. They even took professional photos throughout the tour, so you don’t have to worry about missing a single magical moment. If you’re searching for the best whale watching in Fremantle / Perth, this tour is absolutely world class. Perfect for families, tourists, and locals alike I can’t recommend it highly enough!

Great day on the water we got to see so many whales coming right up and around the boat. The boat wasn’t overly crowded which was great. The staff were fabulous and very attentive. Options to buy snacks and drinks on the boat available. Overall, we had a really great time and were so happy we saw the whales.

An absolutely wonderful day out. The team take care of everyone really well, and their long history with the orca makes the day even more interesting to hear all the stories of the pods and relationships. There are a lot of different areas on the boat to watch from, so it never felt too crowded. Do take some clothing layers as they recommend - we had a very nice day but it still was fairly windy and cold at some points, so it’s good to have the options to stay on deck and still be warm. Highly recommended.

We had an amazing experience on the boat! The whole crew was super friendly and welcoming. Arry was especially lovely, he gave us the best experience, we had an incredible view, and it was my friend’s birthday they even surprised her with champagne and an announcement on the microphone. She felt so special, and we all enjoyed it so much. We also got to see the whales, which was unforgettable. The boat itself is great, very comfortable, and the atmosphere was wonderful. We’d definitely come again and highly recommend it!

I had the most amazing whale watching experience in Perth! The moment we set out to sea, the view itself was breathtaking, but what truly made it unforgettable were the whales. They were so majestic yet surprisingly friendly, swimming so close to our boat and even circling around us as if to say hello. It felt magical watching these gentle giants in their natural habitat, diving gracefully and then surfacing with such power and elegance. The whole trip was filled with excitement, joy, and a sense of awe that words can hardly describe. If you’re visiting Perth, this is an absolute must-do. It’s not just a tour, it’s a memory that will stay with you forever.

Our family had the most wonderful time on our trip yesterday. The crew stayed out longer than planned because we had an incredible encounter with a pod of 4 humpback whales on our way back. We not only appreciated the hospitality and expert commentary but also how respectful they are of the whales and of the guests. It’s really a must-do tripin Western Australia

We had a really good family experience with whale watching WA. It was very easy booking and well organised. The staff and crew were really friendly and professional. We all felt very safe. The vessel was amazing. Large boat with great inside facilities and seating and plenty of outdoor seats for the trip. And most importantly we saw so many whales! They seemed to love us and circle the boat over and over. They came very close and all round we thought the experience was well worth the money. We highly recommend the tour!

I had the privilege of doing the trip from Bremer Bay on the 19-01/2026 to see the Orca. Such a professional company with a great captain (Drew) and his beautiful family and crew. Luxurious vessel and I was lucky enough to share the Captain's cabin with the crew. What an amazing experience. I was very well looked after and would recommend this trip to anyone who is looking for a first class adventure if a lifetime. I am so very happy. We wwe lucky enough to see plenty of of Orcas and I will be booking again when I go to Perth in September. Thank you again for a most wonderful trip.
