We first discovered this restaurant last year on our anniversary. My husband knows that I really enjoy unique and well presented food. We went back again this year and I have to say WOW! They do not disappoint! The food was incredible. We had the burrata as an appetizer which was fabulous! It could have used a little more crostini for spreading and dipping. I'm sure they would have brought more if asked. I had the scallops with the cheesy grits; 10+. My husband had the best short ribs I have ever tasted in my life. I love this place so much I wish we lived closer! We told them it was our anniversary and they really went the extra mile! Love the atmosphere, the staff and most of all the food! You will not be disappointed!

The atmosphere was clean and inviting. The service was excellent! Our appetizer was the whipped feta served with grilled naan. It was very delicious, but I believe red pepper flakes were sprinkled on it, which made it a little too spicy. It's not listed in the description, so if you don't want spicy/hot, I would request it not be added. We had the lobster roll and the shrimp pappardelle!! Both were excellent! The pappardelle was thin and cooked perfectly. We definitely would return!

Gorgeous restaurant with a wonderful outside area by the water! The food is excellent! Highly recommend 😀

My husband and I just hosted a very successful 40th Birthday Celebration at Whaler's in Bay Shore. Catering Manager, Kelly, was an absolute joy... very helpful in the planning process, offering great suggestions. After our first meeting with Kelly, my husband and I knew that we were in good hands. Whaler's party room is beautiful, the food was delicious and the entire staff were very kind and friendly. It was a terrific experience. I would not hesitate to host another event at Whaler's.

Fantastic experience at this restaurant! Beautiful setting for photos, amazing staff, and incredible food. The ceviche was a highlight, and we loved sharing appetizers and desserts. Can't wait to come back and try more of their delicious menu!

Google
Solid choice! We have been wanting to check this place out for a while and glad we did! The food was pretty good with a stunning view and atmosphere. I would say the menu could offer a bit more but being that we came towards the end of the summer season, it may have contributed to the menu. The service was great, very friend and attentive staff!

Google
Food was phenomenal. The whipped feta appetizer was amazing just enough heat with pepper flakes then a touch of honey. Cocktails were delish and not overly strong, just perfect !

Google
This restaurant is amazing. The view is beautiful, the food is great, and the owners and staff are such nice people. The inside decor is also really nice. If you're looking for a great spot to eat with a gorgeous view- this your place !

Yelp
Came here yesterday for lunch around 11am. The food was really good. I got a rose martini and was delicious. We split wings - garlic soy & buffalo. They were good. We also ordered shrimp dumplings for the table, I didn't like but my husband did. For lunch I got a tuna poke bowl. Huge portion for 25$ and I couldn't finish It. Service was a little meh. They forgot to give my friend a spoon and had to ask 2-3 times for one for his soup . I would come back if I'm in area

Yelp
In the mood for seafood, a friend and I decided to check out Whalers in Bay Shore. It was a gorgeous Thursday night, perfect weather for sitting out on their dock. We started off with cocktails. I tried the coconut margarita which was phenomenal, and I'll be day dreaming about it for days to come. For an appetizer we split the steamed pei mussels, the garlic crostini was yummy! For an entree I went with the seafood fra diavolo, which was cooked to perfection with the perfect amount of sauce and spice. The waitstaff were great. We went on a Thursday night, so there wasn't a big crowd but overall the food and service was stellar and I have no complaints. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Went for brunch at 1:00 on a Sunday, it was pretty slow when I arrived but was packed by the time I was leaving (230-ish) I ordered the crab cake appetizer. It was good, not exceptional. I ordered the Summer Salad for my entree, this was very good! I opted to add spicy chicken (they couldn't do regular grilled which seems weird) but the chicken was terrible. It tasted like chinese food chicken - where you question if it's even actually chicken? Thankfully they didn't add it into the salad and it came on the side - so I barely touched it. Food is good otherwise, view is beautiful & restaurant is adorable.

Yelp
It's the food for me. The food is good and that's all I need. The ambiance is causal seafood, very New England wharf feeling. Our server was polite and gave some good suggestions on things to try. But the food is the highlight here and it made me happy. I had the Whaler's Chopped Salad and it was everything. It's a must try. Portion was huge (ate remainder for dinner). The mix of avocado, lobster, Parmesan cheese, bacon bits, boiled eggs, kale-yum yum yum. I can't wait to try it again. Everyone enjoyed their meal.

Yelp
My bf and I snagged a last min. Reservation on a Friday night. We had been talking about this place for a while. Here's how it went.... We were warmly greeted by a hostess named Gianna! What a sweet girl. Our table wasn't ready but she gave us frequent updates as we enjoyed a cocktail by the bar with John. He crafted some delicious drinks and gave us some great recommendations. Spicy mango margarita A flavored martini (I think) We had the option of outside or upstairs dinning. We opted for upstairs bc the view and the decor is absolutely gorgeous. Our server Ryan was very pleasant. For apps we ordered the ceviche and the spicy salmon crispy rice. Both were dilcious I prefer a little kick so added some hot sauce to the ceviche and a little extra spicy Mayo to the salmon. Lately, we've been sharing a dish when we go out bc I can never finish what I order and rarely eat it after. We had the coconut cod and it did not disappoint! So flavorful! The vegetable base had apples in it and omg TOP Tier! We didn't have desert. Will be back for more cod .

Yelp
This is my second time at Whalers and I loved it. As an out of towner I am instantly in a better mood by enjoying a meal by the water. They have a decent size patio so we were able to sit outside and enjoy the weather. I ordered the lobster Cobb salad, with a lobster bisque. (I know double lobster.) I was sooo impressed with the amount, freshness, and flavor of the lobster in the salad. I would definitely say that's a salad to share if you're getting other things. The lobster bisque also had a lot more lobster than most restaurants. Had the rich depth of gambit that all good lobster bisques have. Overall great time at Whalers.

Yelp
Amazing !!! Decided to celebrate my birthday at Whalers. I've been there a couple of times now. I drove all the way from Brooklyn,NY just to celebrate there. I've even brought family from out of town there before. Amazing food and drinks, reasonably priced, and super friendly staff. Plus beautiful scenery This time was more special since it was my birthday. They even gave me a gift card for celebrating it there! Love love love I would recommend every time !!!

Yelp
The food, the service, the atmosphere- all 5 stars As always, Matt at the outside bar was great. Such a good guy! Met the owner tonight, so personable and friendly. No wonder the people that work here are all the best. Comes from the top!!! The best!!!!!

Yelp
Me and my love having an Anniversary lunch 33+yrs later and I still feel so far drinks are great, food is delish, servers are so nice, the only minus was the olive oil cake- not good- but, Everything else was great!

Yelp
If you are looking for a great lobster roll this great dock side restaurant will not disappoint you. We had the hot lobster roll with butter lightly drizzled on top. The lobster was delicious, great quality! Still thinking about it and the cocktails were spot on!

Yelp
We started our evening arriving on time and had to wait 15 minutes at the bar for our table to be ready. Our table was upstairs. The dining room had a very classy atmosphere with a nice view of the marina. One of the other waiters had long Bob Jovi feathered hair which we found nostalgic. We were grateful our waiters hair was more generic. He was attentive and friendly. Although I don't think he really cared. He didn't inform us about the specials. But we heard him tell the table next to us. Maybe you need a party of 6 to be privileged to hear them.  We started our culinary adventure with an order of baked clams which we would describe as small and tasty. My only complaint is that there was a wet delicious sauce under the clams and we couldn't figure out how to moisten the clams with the fork and knife provided. We would recommend a spoon. Queen had a salad which was seasonal and tasty. Daddy had the New England clam chowder which did not disappoint. For the main course, the queen had cod which was accompanied by a tangy spicy sauce which was very tasty. Daddy had pan seared scallops over yellow rice. The scallops were small and unfortunately dry. All in all, it was a nice evening. The price was reasonable and we may go back at some point. I would give this establishment a 3.75 but that isn't an option. So.....we rounded up.

Yelp
Hello, where are you Sunday brunch peeps? This is the place to be. They have unlimited alcohol specials and the food is FABULOUS! Service is attentive. This place should be packed, it's not just a Summer restaurant. I'm letting you in on this secret, feel free to tell your friends. Pan fried gnocchi with greens and brown butter. I could have slept on these pillows of perfection. Whipped feta with pistachios, honey and a few pickled onions to slather on your warm pita bread, scoop eat and repeat. Marinated beef so tasty in the Korean bowl topped off with a perfectly cooked sunny side egg yo run all over the ingredients below. Marinated medium rare filet of beef sliced topped with cheese and crispy onions on a roll just thick enough to hold the juices and give you just enough for each mouth pull. Prices are on par without being expensive. We'll be back again. Our waiter was attentive and provided excellent customer service and our water glasses never were empty.

Yelp
Beautiful setting on the deck watching the boats coming and going. Knowledgeable server with great smile and attitude. Lobster rolls and tacos made our weekend lunch satisfying.

Yelp
I love this restaurant. I came today for the restaurant week special & like in the past , they did not disappoint. I ordered the scallops which were perfection. I also ordered the bread budding. My friend got the salmon & loved it. I can't wait for my next visit

Yelp
I was here two years ago and had an amazing experience so decided to come back. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The food was underwhelming and our server never checked on us. We started with the drinks which weren't the best and took forever. The mint vodka drink was too lemony. I exchanged it for the grapefruit vodka martini drink which was better but not amazing. Next, we put in our appetizers and entree. That also took forever. What's more annoying is that our waitress brought our entree before appetizers!! The salmon dish with cauliflower was very good. Next the appetizers came out, we had the lettuce wraps and tuna poke. Both were just ok. The tuna wraps were difficult to assemble. Tuna poke was very small portion. I wish our waitress checked on us because I needed extra dressing and salt and pepper. Overall food wasn't bad but not great either. Service was eh.

Yelp
Came to Whalers during restaurant week (Saturday evening), intending to order off the Pre-fix menu, however we wound up ordering off of the regular menu. We arrived on time for our reservation- the downstairs dining room was practically empty, but we were seated upstairs (they do have an elevator) where almost every table was full. The upstairs has amazing views of the canal and is decorated very nicely. We had to wait about 5-10 minutes to be seated, but once we were our waiter arrived fairly quickly to take our drink orders. We started with a spicy watermelon margarita, a vodka mojito, the crispy pork dumplings (5 pieces) and the spicy salmon crispy rice (4 pieces). The margarita was SPICY! Definitely had to drink in moderation. The salmon was the standout, but the pork dumplings were also very good. The main course came out extremely quickly. We had the seafood risotto and the shrimp pappardelle (substituted asparagus for the spinach). The seafood in the risotto was cooked perfectly, though the rice could have used more flavor. The pappardelle was really good- large shrimp and the lobster sauce was very tasty. For dessert we shared the apple wontons (3 pieces with gelato). The wontons were crispy but the apple filling was overly sweet. Overall good meal and good service.

Yelp
Check out Whalers on the Island where the vibe checks out as much as the menu. Started with a 'Punched by Punch' and a fire Spicy Margarita , then went all in on a Stuffed Portobello Mushroom with Asparagus Risotto and the Seafood Risotto that's legit a flavor wave. Great food, killer atmosphere, and service that's on point.

Keiri L.

Yelp
First time visiting Whalers. They had a good crowd for a Monday lunch. Ordered some margaritas which were great & decently priced. Started off with some steamed mussels & clam chowder. Everything was delicious until we got the filet mignon sandwiches. My brother & boyfriend ordered them & the kitchen staff blatantly disregarded the fact that there were visible spots of mold on the bread. We brought it to their attention & they had replaced it with non moldy bread. Very disappointed in their lack of attention. We were comped with a $20 gift card for a next visit. Don't think we'll be visiting again, but if you want to grab a quick bite before heading the ferries, I'd recommend you go to Main Street with much better options & better quality.

Katrina d.

Yelp
The atmosphere is amazing, staff is great and menu has a variety of options. Bottomless brunch option as well!

Yelp
If you're looking for one of the best seafood pastas, Whalers is amazing! Their brunch is also a hit and has some really great dishes on the menu. The restaurant is beautiful, especially with the stunning waterfront views. Every time I go, service is great and really friendly. If you're looking to celebrate a special occasion, I would definitely keep this place in mind. I would recommend making reservations, as they get pretty busy especially during the weekends!

Jackie B.

Yelp
Food was delicious and came out quick! Outside seating was beautiful on the deck and service was excellent. Great variety on the menu!

Yelp
We had a pleasant Mother's Day experience, lots of menu choices so everyone in our group found an option easily. Ambience is cheerful and bright, service was solid, the waitstaff were congenial. Valet parking is also a welcome touch.
google avatar

Sharon D.

Yelp
My 17-year-old son saved up his money and took me to Whalers for Mother's Day in 2024. He was so excited. While the food was delicious, the service left much to be desired. I've dined at this restaurant several times, even bringing my staff for lunch, but the customer service really needs improvement. There's a saying that "the fish stinks from the head down", and unfortunately, the owner is very cold and unwelcoming. Whether it's due to her discomfort with the restaurant's diverse clientele or another reason, her demeanor always makes me reluctant to return.
google avatar

Sam R.

Yelp
Went for brunch...it was okay. Service was good, coffee eh, lobster roll have had better. Strip steak eh. Acoustics not great, low ceiling...women yammering. There are better out there, so I don't think we'll be back.

Donna S.

Yelp
Food was so good! Lobster roll was excellent and my husband's shrimp pappardelle was just as good! Talking was a bit hard upstairs acoustics not good but the food made up for it.
google avatar

Kenneth S.

Yelp
Food was great. Cod with Thai chili. Lobster Mac Shrimp paparadelle All great. Connie was awesome. Smiling. Responsive. And she has an opinion! Oh yeah, 3 feet from the water.

Yasmine N.

Yelp
Food was good, loved the seafood risotto. Baseboards and doors were kind of dirty and the service was slow. Needs a paint job, should be kept up for an expensive place
google avatar

Yelp
Wish I could give 3.5. But I'll round up to be nice. Service was attentive and the young man asked us if we were celebrating anything- we were, a birthday, but we hadn't told anyone - so he brought us an ice cream with a candle. Very nice server. Atmosphere was cute but as it was a cloudy day they had the outdoor seating closed. Imho it shouldn't have been because the weather didn't get bad until much later that evening. But, they did apologize for it. We were seated promptly but not too many other patrons in the restaurant. Food was good. Not great. Good. Consistently. Which is important when every entree is $30+ Service quite slow but we were chatting so it was ok. I had two cocktails (same drink) and the second was way paler and weaker than the first. Inconsistent. Overall ok. Pretty expensive but what isn't nowadays. Would be better if you had a nice day with water views.

Melody C.

Yelp
Great menu & drink choices ! Everything was so delicious & the staff were friendly & attentive!

Michael R.

Yelp
Excellent on all fronts! Atmosphere, temperature, service and quality menu with outstanding flavorful dishes. I enjoy it every time I go there. Prices were more than comparable. Valet Parking a ++.

Joanne L.

Yelp
I went with 3 friends for dinner. Had a drink at the outside bar first. Loved the Coco loco Margarita. The toasted coconut around the rim of the glass was a nice touch. We sat outside and the weather was perfect. We ordered whipped feta appetizers and the salmon spicy rice. Both very delicious. Both on the spicy side. I had the braised short rib with rice. Also very good! My friends said there meals were equally as good. All around good time. The waiter was very efficient and friendly too. If you have to eat inside, go upstairs. Very nice decor and atmosphere. I will definitely go back soon!

Yelp
Came here for brunch with 3 of my girlfriends and had a blast! First off this place is absolutely gorgeous and that was one of the reasons I chose it for brunch. My friends and I started off with some delicious mimosas. I was very impressed with how light and refreshing their mimosas were! For my entree I ordered a lobster roll with a side of french fries which was was equally fantastic! The staff here were excellent as well, they were kind and very attentive. Even though we were told there was a 90 min window of seating due to covid, they weren't pushy at all with getting us out. We did not feel rushed whatsoever. The meal ended with dessert which was delicious! I had the smores tarte which was so rich and delicious! Just wish they had given more ice cream with it! Overall I loved this place and will definitely be back!
google avatar

Barbara K.

Yelp
First of all the service is outstanding. Our server, James, checked on us several times to make sure we were okay. The food was delicious and the restaurant is so pretty! There's also outside seating. Highly recommend!

Abriana B.

Yelp
We decided to come here as we wanted a spot on the waterfront for dinner. This place did not disappoint. Everything from the atmosphere, to the drinks and food are great. Even the staff is super friendly. All our food was fresh and came out hot! One of my favorite things we tried was the spicy salmon crispy rice appetizer. I could have ate 5 of them. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a nice restaurant in Long Island either for a date spot or going out with a group of friends.
google avatar

Jihye B.

Yelp
I visited Whalers with my family during the Long Island restaurant week, so this is a review of their restaurant week menu! It was very simple to make a reservation for a Saturday night. However, there was no free parking available during that time though the restaurant claimed to have a parking lot. We parked in a paid muni spot instead. (It looked like the reserved parking spots for the restaurant were very few and already taken) A slight wait by the foyer and we were ushered to the outdoor seating upstairs. The decor was very cute and bright. There was some clear cover around the patio to keep the sea breeze out. The restaurant was kind to accommodate our table change request when we found the setting sun too bright. Victoria (?) was our server for the night. She explained the menu and answered questions we had. We were told that there was a 90 minute limit on our seating reservation. However, because it was a busy night, the service was fairly slow paced, so they did not rush us out. I was very impressed by her knowledge and efficiency during our dinner service. For appetizers, we had the spring roll and PEI mussel pots. The mussels were cleaned very well. The spring roll was unique in concept. For entree, we tried almost every one on the restaurant week menu, except the surf and turf. The coconut crusted cod was tender and clean, slight sweetness of the coconut serving as a great complement to the fish. The braised short rib was a little bit disappointing. The meat was cooked fine, but nothing special. The kimchi fried rice was super bland and felt like a pilaf. Shrimp pappardelle was our favorite. The shrimp was cooked perfectly plump and juicy. The spicy lobster sauce was balanced very well, creamy but not too heavy. The roasted chicken was cooked well, a great choice for those not looking for seafood. The little desserts added a nice sweetness at the end of the meal, though I would not go out of my way to order it separately. Whalers has a selection of beers and other alcoholic beverage to suit every need. The decor was really cute. It seems like a great brunch or dinner spot by the ferry to Fire Island.
google avatar

Amneris M.

Yelp
I didn't even know it was still brunch time. So happy I was able to enjoy it! They had many options. We didn't have a reservation and luckily they were able to sit us outside immediately. The service was a little slow, not sure if it was to busy for them. Our appetizer arrived before our drinks. My husband ordered the punch by punch and I ordered a mimosa. For an appetizer we ordered the poke which was really delicious. I ordered the lobster omelet and hubby ordered the lobster roll. Food was delicious and it filled me up.
google avatar

Erin F.

Yelp
I was in the area and looked up waterfront brunch, and ended up at Whalers. The location was just what we were looking for- the view from the outdoor dining area was great. We thoroughly enjoyed our food as well. I started with a mimosa and the tuna poke. Both were good and pretty much what I expected. The real star of my meal was the lobster avocado toast. There was so much lobster meat and it was perfectly prepared. The avocado seemed real too, not just a premade spread. They did forget the tomatoes on mine, but the lobster was so delicious I didn't even care. It was pricey- over $30- but it was absolutely worth it and I highly recommend. The service was quick and friendly, and the inside of the restaurant looked nice. One thing to note is parking may be a little difficult. There are a few spots with signs for Whalers, and I think there might be a valet, but they allowed us to park ourselves. The rest of the lot is paid parking and it was very full when we were there.

Cleef D.

Yelp
First time here. My wife and I loved the place. Food was very tasty and the drink, let me tell you were awesome

Fredrika C.

Yelp
Brought my boyfriend here for a birthday dinner and we really enjoyed ourselves! We had a very attentive waitress supported by other polite and friendly staff members. We ordered cocktails and were punched by the potency. After, we ordered a shareable appetizer of Korean lettuce wraps. The presentation was impressive and everything was delicious. Lastly, we devoured our entrées: pan seared scallops and shrimp pappardelle! Both were VERY well seasoned, well balanced, and well executed. There literally isn't a thing I'd change on either dish. It was a great way to celebrate my boyfriend and we look forward to going back.

Yelp
Went out to brunch with my fiancé and my parents on Saturday around 12:30p. The views from the second level of the restaurant are amazing. It's also very nicely decorated, high ceilings & bright. I ordered the burger, which was delicious. My fiancé had the banana French toast with a side of bacon. She loves this and said it was very good. My mom had the dumplings, she ordered the tai chili sauce to dip them in, she enjoyed those. My dad had the Korean pork bowl, which he said was very good. I will be coming back. The whole experience was awesome, great food and great views, that's hard to beat.

Melissa M.

Yelp
Whalers was an absolutely wonderful experience. The food was to die for, flavorful, plentiful and very much worth the price. We sat inside and the atmosphere was open and intimate. We enjoyed the cocktails. the surf and turf was out of this world! The stuffed baked potatoes were amazing. I would definitely recommend taking a ride out to Bayshore to visit this establishment. I will absolutely be back!

Jesse B.

Yelp
Good food, drinks, and decent water view of the ferries coming in and going out. Nice outdoor dining area and outdoor bar. Inside looked very nice too. I believe I saw 3 boat slips.
google avatar

Lucia B.

Yelp
Great view! Mosquitoes at dusk, but it's Long Island and you're on the water. The scallops were good. Risotto was delicious. Would go again.

Lady G.

Yelp
A very pleasant decor and ambience. We had drinks and apps at the bar, the apps were very good. We'll be back to try it for dinner; especially when the outdoor deck opens for the season.

Yelp
Like a lot of other patrons, I typically come here right before I take the Fire Island ferry. I sat at the bar and was served by Joe, the same bartender that served me the last time I was here. Joe told me that he has worked for the restaurant since it opened several years ago. I took his advice and ordered the New England Clam Chowder, which is the best I have had outside of Boston. I lived in that City when I attended undergraduate school there. I asked Joe his opinion of the Key Lime Pie. He responded that he has not tried it yet because it just came on the menu. Because I am a lover of Key Lime pie, I ordered it. The presentation was fabulous. The pie came with some fresh cream on top and some salted caramel sauce on the side. I do not like salted caramel. Nor did I like the pie filling because it was not limey enough. The crust did not taste like it was made from graham crackers, either. Certainly, I will never order this dessert here again. I was truly disappointed. I was looking for a key lime pie similar to the one that their neighboring restaurant The Chowder Bar makes. In my opinion, The Chowder Bar makes the best Key Lime Pie on the Island. I drank only water with lemon. The last time I was here, Joe made my favorite drink, a Caipirinha, even though it is not on the menu. There is no Cachaca at the bar, so Joe improvised by muddling some lime and sugar with Bacardi. Way to go, Joe!!! Despite wasting my money on a bad Key Lime Pie knock off, I am giving Whalers five stars for its food, drinks and fabulous service.

Yelp
Awesome waterfront restaurant. Came here last night with a group of 11 people and had a great time. Due to covid and being a large party we had to sit inside and upstairs which was fine and offered a great view. Got the oysters and calamari to start. Both were awesome and decently priced. For dinner I got the cold lobster roll with a side salad. The lobster meat was huge and very fresh. Definitely worth the splurge. Customer service was great, very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend this spot, especially during the summer!
google avatar

Elyse M.

Yelp
Utilized the LI restaurant week special with my boyfriend. I had tried this place a couple of years ago pre Covid, and remember having their lobster roll and enjoying their waterfront area in the summer. This time we were seated upstairs. The decor was beautiful with their string lights. Their upstairs area looks like a place where you can hold nice events - we even spotted a projector that looks like it can be used for slide shows. I'm sure with all their windows, natural lighting in the day must look so awesome. In terms of their food, I personally loved the appetizers the best. Their gnocchi was fried and was in truffle and Parmesan and ugh so yummy. Gnocchi is usually a hit or miss for me. Their lobster bisque was also another star of the show! Great flavors, rich. The only thing I would have loved is if they added pieces of lobster to bite so it'd feel more dimensional. Their salmon and couscous had pretty good flavors. Their chicken had a decent portion. Dessert we had apple pie wontons and bread pudding but nothing too extraordinary for me personally. Overall didn't regret coming back to check out the place. Would definitely be an awesome place to check out in the warmer months!

Yelp
This is a nice place with great views. It's a lot of atmosphere and the food is decent. The lettuce wraps are great, and they are huge. Definitely a bit salty, but the kind where you can't stop eating it! I like the bowls off the the lunch menu, they're all good. My favorite is the tuna one. Salmon and scallops off the dinner menu are the way to go. It's a fun location that's good for a date night or just lunch with a view!
