On the Grid : Whampoa Colour Centre

"Established by owner A. K. Ong in 1983, Whampoa Colour Centre is one of the few film processing shops left in Singapore. With digital cameras and smartphones replacing film cameras in this contemporary day and age, the once thriving industry of film processing has now become nearly extinct. To stay up to date, Mr. Ong has picked up photo editing and invested in laser photo printing, and has gradually expanded his range of services to include prints in large formats, which include printing sizes up to that of a classroom whiteboard." - OuterEdit

I recently started with my film photography journey after finding a working film point and shoot from my school's trash bin. The staff were very friendly and processing was super quick (recently I sent at 2PM, managed to get the email at 7PM!) I find their film stock very affordable also, have already went back for more rolls last week!

The owner is very helpful and kind. Now that I live in SG I will come here every time to buy film, develop, and print. He has a great selection and does a great job

My first time developing film after almost 30 years. The store was closed when I went on a Wednesday but there's a drop off box which makes it so convenient, and no wasted trip! Really appreciate this service haha. Received a WeTransfer link the next day. It was so fast. Thank you! Would definitely like to visit the store when it's opened :)

Thank you! I've been coming here for a few years now. Best photo shop in Singapore - friendly and great service, and really good prices for both developing film and film rolls. I typically receive my film scans within a few hours - how efficient is that! Have never encountered any issues and I'm very grateful that (what seems like) a small family business like this exists!

All the cameras here are much cheaper than the ones on shopee! Additionally the shop owners are very helpful and nice, uncle very knowledgeable and help my indecisiveness! Bought a disposable kodak powerflash here, hopes it works well ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 Success come to your shop

Really really fast. Dropped 3 rolls at 6.40pm, expected to get the scans 2 days later, and was shocked when i received an email with the scans at around 9pm on the same day i dropped it. Was super psyched and happy with how the photos turned out. Thank you so much!!

Google
Highly recommend this place. Highly efficient and great quality photos developed from my film. I was visiting Singapore and finished my film the day before I was leaving, I knew this place closed late so I called the uncle to ask if he’s still around, he proceeded to tell me to come even at 10pm because he had work to do. When I arrived at 9pm, uncle was getting interviewed. I dropped off my film and received my photos back at 11:46pm ON THE SAME DAY! THANK YOU UNCLE❤️

Yelp
love LOVE coming here to develop my films and the uncle is always so nice and sweet even though he may not seem like it at times usually by the end of the day, i will receive my developed and scanned film pics and they are GREAT! can always come back to retrieve the negatives unless its past 6 months i believe. but service wise, its quick and simple, usually the uncle doesnt say much but he is really knowledgeable about film related stuff from what i know! he is super nice though he may not seem to be 10/10 pls support and buy rolls here, say hi and be nice to uncle~

Yelp
Great service, cheap films, fast development. Highly recommend this place for those who are into film photography. I was welcomed by an uncle who is really lovely. I went over to develop my two rolls of Kodak ColourPlus 200. The price of the development to me is acceptable; $10 for 4-base scanning and $12 for 16-base scanning. These include the development, of course. The price of the films does vary depending on how much the shop bought as a whole stock. Generally, it is cheaper than what I have seen so far in Singapore; $4.20 for Kodak ColourPlus 200, $8.00 for Fujifilm X-tra 400. I sent in my film rolls at around 4:30pm. Around 8:00pm, I got my scanned version through the email. The next day, I then proceeded to collect my developed films at the shop. The film was nicely packed into the film sleeves; I also received a small copies of the scanned version for my picture as well. I hope the shop would not close down anytime soon.

Yelp
DO NOT EVER COME HERE if youre really serious about buying film dont ever come here. the uncle here make me damn pissed. i wouldve broken all his bones if i could. came a few months back to get disposable cameras in bulk for an event. called and ask on the phone and can overhear him saying to his wife sell to me and earn the developing money. when i reached there, he constantly pressured me about coming back here to develop films so i said yes to make him happy. fast forward a few weeks, we needed more cameras, so i called and ask and CONFIRM. the uncle told me there is stock and would reserve for me, so i commited to my peers. when i reached the shop he told me there isn't adequate stock left and when i confronted him about what he told me on the phone he was dismissive and continuously told me "sold already, dont have stock. i know what u told me but we dont have anymore" and had the cheek to say i didnt come back to his shop and develop. i told him i already commited to my peers and he continued being dismissive of what i had to say and served other customers, pushing me aside. not to mention his developing costs are so expensive and takes up to 2 weeks while triple d minilab only charges $10.50 and can do it in one day. its clear to see he doesnt actually care about his customers and just wants to profit off us even speaking behind our backs when he thinks we cant hear. the uncle has made me hate the place i once loved and this experience has made me really frustrated. this is an advice not to go there if you dont want to be treated the same way. an alternative like mentioned above is triple d minilab that is alot cheaper for film development and much faster too
