✨️A local friend tipped us off about this hidden gem, and now we know why! Set to the laid-back rhythm of reggae music 🎶, this spot serves up fresh-made wraps bursting with island flavor 🌺. It’s the perfect taste of Hawai‘i, simple, wholesome, and full of aloha 🌈. We stopped in after visiting Akaka Falls 🌴 and cruising around the Big Island 🚗, and it totally hit the spot. The hummus wrap was light and flavorful 🥙, and the fish wrap was packed with bold, fresh taste 🐟. These wraps are no joke, super hearty! We wanted to try a shake, but we were happily stuffed. There was plenty of parking when we arrived ✅, and we loved the chill outdoor deck seating 🌞. They accept both cash and card. Everything about this place feels warm, local, and welcoming. It's definitely worth the stop if you’re exploring the area!

Incredible place near botanical gardens! The food is some of the best we had on the island of comparable places. Got ono fish wrap, super high quality fish, an awesome tasty and healthy option! Can't recommend enough!

This place is amazing, we made sure to come back here on our second trip to the big island. The smoothies have all fresh ingredients and they and the food taste amazing. They have fresh fruit from their farm to buy. It has a quaint country feel and I love that it's a small family business.

Adorable roadside stand just after the most beautiful scenic drive we’ve ever been on. I got the Ube shake and it was everything I wanted it to be. My wife got the Pacific Passion smoothie and she loved it. Very friendly service and I was shocked at the cleanliness of the restroom.

We discovered this superb place when using the Onomea Bay Scenic route. Michelle is an excellent chef. Her smoothies and wraps were out of this world. The unexpected fruit serving with the wrap & burger was delicious. My wife is a vegetarian and she vouched that her veggie burger as amongst the best she has eaten.

We were there around 2-3PM. There was a line. Be patient with the order because we are on vacation. Beautiful area - it is a green and lush farm/garden surrounding.

I am still thinking about the ono fish wrap, mango smoothie, and ube shake two weeks later. 🤤😍 I have been to What’s shakin a number of times and every time it gets better. The whole team is so friendly and warm. The atmosphere is amazing(best playlist ever), and the food OMG. Literally made me wiggle with excitement at the flavor. My husband happened to snag proof below 😂 Flavors that pack a punch but are so refreshing. Something simple can still be extraordinary. The pricing is good and what you get is even better. Definitely worth a visit after donkey’s path, seeing the botanicals, or after a day at Akaka Falls or any day! Not a far drive from Hilo! Check out this “hole in the wall” you won’t regret it.

My wife and I dropped in here after seeing all of the Yelp reviews about the place and decided to see if it lived up to the hype. We were in the area after exploring the nearby botanical gardens and were hungry for lunch. So we grabbed a table on the patio and ordered up a Farmers Favorite Smoothie and an Ono Mamas Fish Wrap. We were not the least bit disappointed! While the smoothie was not quite as sweet as I would have liked, there's no question it was of high quality, and the wrap was to die for--super delicious and a good size. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but you most likely will be very happy with the quality of your meal or snack. Who cares if it's "touristy"? Stop in and see if you enjoy it as much as we did. :)

Is there anything better than stumbling on a gem when least expected? We were exploring around Hilo and the general area one day and were crusing the four mile scenic drive when we stumbled on What's Shakin. We had already eaten lunch earlier but we were warm and ready for a nice beverage. I chose to get the Pina Colada Smoothie (Pineapple Sorbet, frozen farm grown Banana, Coconut cream, blended with Pineapple Juice) and my husband got their fresh squeezed lemonade that was sweetened with a local lavender honey. Service was great, one of the best lemonades we've ever had, and the smoothie was so refreshing - it all just hit the spot and was a perfect pit stop in our day.

Big tasty sandwiches awaits you at this big shack in the middle of nowhere (but we'll known to locals as well as visitors). I found the options interesting and the ingredients very fresh. Both the hummus wrap and the Turkey wrap were yummy. They have outdoor covered seats, so it's a great break from your day driving. Recommended.

I visited What's Shakin' twice during my stay on the Big Island and had a pleasant experience both times. The first time around, I ordered the Groovy Guava, which I enjoyed, but not enough to order again. I'm not much of a smoothie person, I've come to learn, and would much rather have my smoothie in "açaí bowl" form. I had my eyes on the fish wrap, but only had a small wad of cash on me, which wasn't enough to cover the cost of both a smoothie and food item. My second visit, I came prepared and ordered the fish wrap and the ube shake. What a homerun of a meal-choice I made! Let's start with the ube shake; this was absolutely delicious! A great balance of ube flavor along with the coconut cream. bananas, and apple juice. I slurped up every morsel I could! Now onto the fish wrap. While the price point was a bit hefty (just over $13), I absolutely LOVED it. Wow, was the wrap astronomically delectable! From the freshness and crunch of the fish, to the fresh vegetables drizzled with a delicious sauce, this fish wrap left me wanting three more. I paired the fish wrap with many-a-drizzle of the hot sell they sell up at the front counter and it took the flavor to the next level! It came with a side of cabbage slaw and fresh cut fruits which were also tasty, fresh, and hit the spot. Although a bit pricey, I enjoyed every bite and slurp that I had. I highly recommend this spot to any and all who are in the area and wanting to try the best fish wrap in town. I will definitely be returning the next time I'm on the island just to experience the fish wrap all over again.

Had a great experience trying the smoothies here, made with fresh fruit. There were smiling faces and overall a really positive vibe to the place, which really helped with the entire island experience. Service A+, a great place to get out of the rain too.

The owners were super nice. They opened 5 minutes early for us :) We had Ono fish wrap, loaded hummus wrap, turkey rockin' rollup, Pina colada shake, mint chocolate shake, strawberry cheesecake shake, mango tango smoothi, and pacific passion smoothie. Everything was delicious. The coleslaw had a hint of sesame oil and the papaya was super sweet! The disco music add festive mood as we ate. Glad we stopped by, it hit the spot!

Great place to stop for a smoothie and a quick bite to eat! Smoothies were delicious, but I wish the menu wasn't so limited. My husband had the fish wrap and enjoyed it!

My hubs and I originally came here 16 years ago when we were first married and our first trip to this island! We immediately remembered this place when driving by abs had to stop. I remember getting the banana bread the last time we were here. So of course we had to stop and eat! We ordered a beef hot dog and 2 of the kickin chicken wraps and a lemonade. There was a line to order but it moved quick. When it was our turn to order, the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. When I ordered the lemonade she's said I got lucky because it was the last one she had for the day! SCORE!! It was yummy too.....sweetened with honey rather than sugar. The hot dog was big and so good. Hubs and I shared that and the chicken wrap so we could get the best of both. The wrap was my favorite! Served hot hot and so fresh and full of flavor! Love the salsa and fresh made beans. The beans really add to the overall flavor because my daughter got a wrap too but with no beans. Hers was good but ours was better because of the beans. They also have fresh coconuts available for purchase. How cool! They'll crack them for you to enjoy fresh coconut water directly from the coconut! If in the area help support local and stop in for some yummy goodies.

We visited this place on a weekday afternoon on the way back to Hilo and after seeing the Akaka Waterfalls. There is only outdoor seating available. The view is gorgeous from here as it is situated right next to their farm, where most of the ingredients are sourced from. There was relatively little wait We ordered the Avocado Wrap and Groovy Guava Smoothie. The Groovy Guava smoothie was delicious and creamy. The Avocado Wrap was fresh and tasty and super creamy as well due to the sauce and avocado. Overall, it was delicious and fresh. Price-wise, it was pretty reasonable. Definitely recommend this place and the food, as it's super fresh and a great place to pick up something quick to fill that hunger craving.

This place is totally worth stopping at! I'm obsessed with the hummus wrap & loved the fresh local fruit that came with it. My kids loved their smoothies too!! Such a fun stop along the scenic coast.

A tiny restaurant with a very limited menu and the best food. We visited after the Shaka guide tour and it was suggested by Shaka guide itself. Food was so fresh, filling and tasty. Our stomach and heart were filled!

We stumbled upon What's Shakin' on our way to the Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve & Garden. Truthfully, it's the only place to grab food in the area, but for small place it did NOT disappoint! The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. It is all outdoor seating along the patio plus picnic tables in the back. They mostly have smoothies and coffee options were mainly hot or iced coffee and the Kona Mocha. They have some food options: Turkey Roll Up, Loaded Hummus Wrap, Avocado Wrap, and Navy Bean Burger from our visit in April 2022. My husband enjoyed his Mango Tango and I enjoyed my Kona Mocha = coffee, Kona Coffee Ice Cream, Banana and Choco powder. Admittedly, I wasn't sure how I felt about banana in my coffee, but it worked well!

We were driving on over to the falls when we saw a Cutthrough for the scenic route. We decided it's only an extra 4 miles why the heck not. So we went on the scenic route and it was absolutely magical and it led us to this place. I am mediately made my friend stop because it said fresh coconut water and I was obsessed. Not only did they have fresh coconut water literally from the coconut themselves in a special cool fridge but they had bang and smoothies. I ended up going with the farmers favorite and it was this magical moment in my mouth. Additionally the atmosphere was just incredible I don't know if it's just the people if it's the cuteness if it's the little guys hanging out saying hello or the fresh coconut water but something about this place was just so special. Huge shout out to the locals who are super sweet to us thank you for an amazing visit and I want to be back there yesterday for another smoothie. This is a must stop guys

Great place to cool down with yummy fruit smoothies and delicious wraps. I had the Ono Fish Wrap and my hubby had the Turkey wrap. He ate it to fast to take a picture LOL. Yummy farm grown food and fresh fruit.

The service here was great and the iced Kona coffee shake was great as well. Fun shack with lots to offer and the ladies that work here are very helpful with directions and helping get info about the local waterfalls.

I saw some pretty good reviews for it and wanted to check it out. It's a pretty small place, with sitting tables off to the side of the house and lined around the front porch. The food options are pretty limited with half the menu being smoothies. I'm lactose so I couldn't try them but my friend said her papaya paradise smoothie wasn't sweet enough/didn't have much taste. I wanted to try the chicken wrap that I saw in people's photos but they didn't have it at the time. I got the hot dog instead and my friend got the mama fish wrap. Both surprisingly were pretty good. She loved the fish wrap. Overall I would go again.

You'll notice this spot when you're driving to and from the Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve & Garden. It is definitely worth the stop for the food, friendly people and good music. Just great vibes all around. There's a farm behind it that they use to grow their produce. Kickin' Chicken Wrap - From a shack on the side of the road, many people wouldn't expect much. This exceeded expectations in every way. It was delicious and creamy. They serve it with slaw and some fruit. The pineapple and lychee I got was sweet and tasty. My only regret is not ordering two of these. Pacific Passion Smoothie - Really refreshing for a humid day. I wish it was a bit colder but at this point I'm just being nitpicky.

Food and service are AMAZING!!!! Of the beaten path and really really worth it. A MUST go.

Review from February 2021 What's shaking smoothie is a cute smoothie shop on the side of the road. My husband insisted on stopping here for smoothies and I'm glad that he did! It seems like a popular tourist destination or a welcomed surprise to those just scenic driving. I guess their speciality is smoothies but they also offer food and had plenty of customers eating at the benches when we arrived. The worker who took our order was Incredibly extroverted and friendly. He explained the varying levels of sweetness and tartness in the drinks we were considering to help us make the right choice. The smoothies were absolutely delicious, fresh, cold & refreshing. We ordered the farmer's favorite and the papaya paradise. They use a frozen banana instead of ice, this drastically upgrades the experience of smoothie drinking. Exceptional smoothie and service! He even refilled our water bottle for us. And everyone else's as well as they lined up and offered their bottles for refilling.

Great place to get lunch and a fresh smoothie. One of our favorite stops because of how fresh everything was. Highly recommend stopping here and picking up lunch and a delicious (all fresh ingredients and no sugar added) before going to Akaka falls or doing the zip line.

Delicious, fresh food! Highly recommend. We had: Guacamole and nachos, fish wrap, hot dogs and a coconut that they crack open after we had the juice. Worth the stop.

Food is great. This is a great spot to find locally grown food served well. We loved it! Highly re offended!

Overall I wanted to love this place. The menu is very vegetarian and vegan friendly. Unfortunately, besides the drinks which were great the food left most of us wanting. My husband ordered the all beef hot dog, which I can guarantee you was a vegan dog. He was super pissed. It was also miniature compared to the bun and had nothing on it. The nachos were literally chips with cheese melted on them. My hummus wrap was tasty but was messy. I was also expecting the hummus to be more of a spread instead of the filling. My SIL said her Beyond Burger was good. I honestly think that if they tried to care about their food they could make a super killing with this amazing location. We now have to find another place close by so my husband can actually eat something. Thanks for pissing him off and wasting his money. I really appreciate it.

The Fish wrap is the healthiest meal I've had all trip. I love it. The smoothie was the cherry on top. I hope to get to stop here again.

Stopped by this spot on our way to the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, as we had not had lunch yet it seemed like a good place to stop and eat something before wandering around the garden trails. Tried the Kickin' Chicken Wrap and Ginger Twist smoothie, both were delicious! The ginger flavor in the Ginger Twist smoothie is intense, if you don't like ginger then this would not be the smoothie for you, but as I enjoy the sweet spiciness of ginger, it was a delight especially on a warm humid day. The chicken wrap came with some slaw and cut fresh fruit, and I liked that the chicken was tender and the beans in the wrap were black beans and clearly not from a can but had the taste of being home-made. It's nice that there are so many picnic tables set up, and you can view the farm from where some of their produce is grown as well. The staff were friendly, and made us feel welcome. Bottom Line: Great little scenic spot to spot for a quick bite, food and smoothies are flavorful and filling.

This is a great place to stop if you're in the area for the Tropical Botanical Gardens or 'Akaka Falls. The food is fresh and tasty and the scenery is very pretty. Mosquitos can be an issue here, so have bug spray handy. We ordered a salmon sandy, tuna sandy, taro wrap, fish wrap, and tamale extreme along with a couple smoothies. The fresh veggies and sprouts that came on all the sandwiches and wraps were a nice touch. So was the papaya and bananas that came with each entree. The papayas were so sweet! My salmon in the salmon sandy was cooked well and the sauce was just right to give it good flavor without overpowering the salmon. Each plate also came with a fresh cabbage slaw which I thought it wouldn't like because it was just raw cabbage with dressing, but I ate every piece! The cabbage didn't have a very strong taste and the dressing was creamy but mild. Both smoothies were also very good. Overall, a nice place to stop for lunch in the area, but nothing worth going out of the way for.

This was a wonderful find on the way to the Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve garden. The service is great, the food is delicious, especially the fruit and the smoothies. Also, check out the soaps on the counter around the corner!

When someone asks what I miss most about our stay on Big Island - it's this place. We made it a daily ritual to stop by here every morning. Wish we could bundle up all of the great energy of this place and take it to Arkansas.

Sometimes you just get lucky. We were sightseeing and I took a scenic drive detour. Found this place along the way and just pulled into the parking area. No expectations but it was really good. We had pb&j smoothie and it was awesome. Great views sitting on the porch. The people working (assumed the owners) were really nice. Had such a relaxed and cool vibe. Go find this place!

After arriving on the Big Island at Hilo we went exploring and taking scenic routes. We had passed this on our exploration and thought cute but wasn't hungry. However, on our return to drive towards Mountain View needed to eat. Now we stopped before they close. Very colorful place limited food menu but wide variety of smoothies. Fresh and quickly served and all was enjoyed. Staff was friendly and able to access clean and comfortable bathroom. Worth checking out.
