I’ve been wanting to try When The Pig Came Home Delicatessen for a while, but it honestly wasn’t anything special. The beef patty was below par and topped with a piece of Kraft cheese, which was disappointing. The sandwich itself was tasty, but very small for the price. Overall, it didn’t live up to my expectation.

I recently had the pleasure of trying what I can confidently say is the best meat patty I’ve ever tasted in my life. The flavor was simply outstanding, and I found myself wishing I hadn't already had lunch before visiting this place. The brisket sandwiches being served around me looked incredibly tempting, loaded with juicy meat and topped with what I can only imagine were delicious condiments. During my visit, I also enjoyed a delightful conversation, adding to the welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant. Despite the distance from my home, I’m already planning my next trip back to indulge in more of their mouthwatering offerings. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience!

I will say, this place had one of the best sandwiches I ever had. I ordered the porcetta house sandwhich but swapped the honey mustard for spicy mustard and was absolutely blown away. In full transparency, wasn’t expecting much when I walked in. Saw some iPads for ordering, no one was really around. But the food speaks for itself. I got to talking to a woman, who turned out later to be the owner, and she was the nicest and most hospitable restaurateur I’ve met. Unbelievable sandwich, and will be coming back for more!

Got a sandwich. Forget which one. It was alright. Bread was not very good. Meat was delicious. The patties I got were oxtail and cheese. These things blew me away. Honestly the best patties I've ever had. Definitely go here.

bf and I came for the first time! he claims it’s one of the best sandwiches he’s ever had ! he got The House Porchetta! & I got the lunch special Sloppy Reuben with the mild beef patty & drink! Bf says the flavour in the sandwich is very thought out — the kale was a very unique but cohesive choice ! the Reuben , was simple but excellent quality for the deal! Will definitely come again to try other sandwiches !

During my last visit a while back, I came just before closing, so I didn’t get anything. I visited again today, and they had kiosks out. I didn’t remember seeing them last time, but it made ordering very convenient. I had the smoked meat on rye and a spicy beef patty. They really do pull off a mad smoked meat sandwich. It was tender, juicy, and flavourfully smoky. The patty had a lot of good spicy filling and the shell was crunchy and flaky.

Delicious!!! If you are looking for delicious meats and foods, come on by. We got a sandwich, a Reuben as well as a patty and all were amazing. They were quite rich, but so flavourful. Be prepared to wait a bit for your order, but when it arrives it’s well worth it. Overall a very cool interior, but not a ton of seating. Really enjoyed!!

Porchetta was very disappointing. Unseasoned and tasteless. It really seemed more like a steamed or boiled pork. The breakfast sandwich was good, but way too much sauce that leaked into the packaging and made the bread extremely wet and soggy by the time I was able to eat it. The peameal itself was good though.

My wife and I decided to venture out to the Junction and visit this spot. We were unfamiliar with the goodness that is "Smoked Meat". We split a Smoked Meat sandwich with Potato Salad and Creamy Slaw for our sides. We were not disappointed. My wife was first to try the potato salad and I was watching for her reaction. She closed her eyes an shook her head slowly ( That means it's really Good) . I tried the smoked meat and was amazed how tender it was it actually melted in my Mouth. Everything was great here right down to the pickles and peppers The staff was very helpful when we were ordering and pegged us as "Americans" when we didn't know what smoked meat was. The shop is small but we were able to snag a couple Of the limited seats. This was a great experience. We highly recommend When the Pig Came Home.

LOVEEE this place so much that every time I'm in the general area I HAVE to stop by (even if it's a little out of the way lmao). Every bite feels like heaven & you can taste the love that was put into the smoked meat. Their Thursday deal where you can get two 3.5oz sloppy reubens for $14 is a steal, you can absolutely make two meals out of it if you have a drink to pair it with (even a big glass of water will do). Also I forgot the name of the young black lady with glasses but she is literally the sweetest most hospitable person ever, I always feel so welcomed whenever I see her.

AMAZING! This was my first time in Toronto so of course I had to try traditional Toronto food including a peameal bacon sandwich. We ordered the deluxe and fully loaded on a bun and both were delicious. I didn't really know what to expect, but I definitely wasn't disappointed! We also tried a beef patty and it was amazing! All around delicious food and I can't wait to go back.

Ordered the smoked meat sandwich, and it's the best smoked meat in Toronto. Even the gluten-free bun was good - and that's highly unusual. Recommend it wholeheartedly.

Located right at the edge of the Junction neighborhood, this restaurant makes a great lunch spot if you're looking for some nice smoked meat sandwiches. I ordered the 1/2 lb Reuben on Rye, and a potato and kale salad on my visit, and was quite pleased with both flavour and portions. The restaurant offers breakfast sandwiches, porchetta, jerk chicken, and other types of beef sandwiches. They use grass fed, hormone and anti-biotic free meats that are prepared fresh daily until they sell out. Service here is super friendly, and while there's limitd seating, due to the small size of the place, they have a sink right across the counter for customers who wishes to eat there to wash their hands since some of these sandwiches can get messy.

The house porchetta was absurdly amazing. Arguably the best sandwich I've ever had. An instant hangover cure and savoury delight In terms of layout and ambience, the place could benefit from having more seating room. Service is great and quick though!

One word-Outstanding!! If you're craving for meaty delicious sandwich don't look any further this is the place.This place has been on my list for a long time. I'm glad I could make it here today. It's in the Junction area- this area over the years have become a hub to many small/ big restaurants, cafes food in general. I had made my mind to go with Joseph one of their sandwiches and honestly I think I made the best decision. This sandwich was so basic yet oozing flavors and freshness. It's basically an delicious bun with meat, provolone cheese and maple aioli with a over easy egg. Since it was my first time trying this delicatessen I opted to minus the egg just so I could really taste their meat. Honestly this sandwich has to be one of the best I have had in Toronto. The meat was cooked and seasoned to perfection and their bun was so fresh and delicious. It wasn't lathered with sauce which I liked as I could really taste the meat. Do checkout their website they do have a huge selection of sandwiches and sides. They also sell meat by weight. I would definitely love to try more if their sandwiches the next time I visit them. The customer service was great the lady took my order included napkins and silverware and order was made quick. The place is following all covid protocols which was great. Lots of street parking outside.

I got hungry exploring the Junction and I'm so glad I stumbled upon this spot!! Everything about this experience was so lovely. The people who work here were absolutely amazing and so was the food. We got: House Porchetta ($13.45) pain au lait, 1⁄3 lb hand sliced porchetta, crackling, garlic sauteed kale, provolone cheese, hot sauce, honey mustard, truffle sauce I absolutely loved the filling and flavours of this sandwich were so delicious. The crackling was so amazing, I wish there was more of it in there! If they had a extra crackling option, I would totally get it. I am craving this sandwich right now! Smoked Meat on Rye ($13.70) 1⁄2 lb hand sliced brisket, yellow mustard, side pickle The sandwich was piled high!! There was so much meat inside it was not dry in the least bit. I wanted to steal my partner's whole sandwich! I was also so glad to know they had Ting available!! It was so refreshing to have with the sandwiches. There is not a lot of seating available here but we were able to get a seat!! I loved the exposed brick wall that we were facing while we ate. It was very aesthetic for the food photos. One of my favourite things about this restaurant was the handwashing station right beside the table. It was so convenient to have clean hands before and after eating the delicious sandwiches. There was also sauce and vacuum sealed meat for sale in a small mini fridge. I am definitely returning to try more items!! :)

This place is so good! I just wish it had dinner hours! Amazing. The loosey is so good!

Okay, what they do here goes beyond food. Their house porketta sando will make your toes curl. One of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. Full stop. They got the touch.

Had the smoked meat sandwich. It wasn't good - it was rather salty & didn't have much of a flavour profile beyond salt. The meat wasn't fatty enough either & some of the mustard was smothered on top of the bread making it very messy. The meat portion was generous though so this gets a 2.5

Solid 4.. great service and excellent sandwiches... If you really want to know what happens when the pig came home, Then, you will notice right there on the chopping block... A giant, golden, crispy skin porchetta... THAT's what happened to the pig when the pig came home!! It becomes yummy for my tummy!! This place is a gigantic array of different sandwiches that you could choose from. Not just up on the board but on the side menu. So take your time and make your choice wisely because the sandwiches are pretty big! The standard sandwiches are porchetta with the crunchy chicharron or skin. Sliced and warmed on a beautiful fluffy fresh bun, adorned with creamy sauce and spicy mustard. Served with pickles and pepper. Very messy sandwich.. do not expect to stay clean eating this beast! The pig comes home and gets down!!! The smoked meat is piled high and caramelized on rye with a mustard and oh, be still my beating heart! Lovely. I thought I had to go to Quebec for smoked meat, but it's right here in the city. This one you can eat and stay neat... thank me later. Still..I could probably down a pound of this meat... yum!!! I'll be back to try more of the meat - maybe the smoked chicken or more of the porchetta... mmmmm! Seating is limited.. no alcohol.. yet they do serve cold pop in the fridge! :)

Just a great place with great people. Their products are simply the best around. No longer the neighbourhood secret.

Put it on your list of favorites. I know I just did. I had their famous pea-meal & an Americano. The coffee was as smooth as silk. Really enjoyable. The sandwich is one of the best I ever had. Seriously. I had a moment while eating it where I just kinda thought, "This is perfect! Where do I go from here in my sandwich eating career? 'Cause this is kinda the gold medal of sandwiches." I don't know about you but When the Pig Came Home kind of feels like one of Toronto's best kept secrets. This little delicatessen in The Junction has been around since 2012 and they keep a rather low profile. I personally feel like they deserve a lot more attention for the delicious things that are going on there. Thankfully Toronto Life listed WtPCH as #20 on their Toronto's 25 Best Sandwiches Right Now 2019 list and I took notice. The thing that caught my attention the most about this list is that of all the 25 sandwiches on the list, only one of them was a peameal sandwich (Toronto's signature sandwich). And it's the one at When the Pig Came Home. So I mean... This has gotta be the peameal to try, amirite?! The shop's hours are a little bit tricky. They're closed entirely on Mondays and Tuesdays and are closed by 7pm on weeknights. They close even earlier on the weekends. So they're certainly more of a spot for lunch or an earlier dinner. I visited late on a Friday afternoon and the incredibly friendly and informative staff had no trouble feeding me a most delicious dinner. Another key item to note is that there really isn't much for seating or tables at the shop. There are a few benches that you can (and should) make due with but do not expect to settle in comfortably for a sit-down meal in any sort of way. I basically sat on a chair and ate in my lap - which I was fine with - but only because the quality of the food was worth it. Otherwise, the deli is cute and fairly simple. They have a small "pantry" retail wall that sells a lot of interesting items and there's a menu on the white wooden-slats wall. The vibe is cool. They aren't trying to impress anyone and that in itself is impressive. They're just doing what they do. I excitedly pondered the menu, almost surprised by some of the offerings that I found. I knew to expect peameal but had no idea that they specialize quite heavily in jerk chicken as well - an interesting combination and quite possibly the most Torontonian thing that I've ever seen. The deal at WtPCH is pretty simple and pretty awesome: their specialty is the highest quality, naturally raised, grass fed, hormone and anti-biotic free meats available. All of their sandwich meats are either cured, seasoned, smoked or roasted in-house fresh daily. It's the kind of operation that you'd hope to see everywhere. They're making real food and taking the time to do it properly. Most famous for their $5 original peameal sando, this was obviously the main thing that I had come in to try. Although I had to kick mine up a notch and ordered The Fully Loaded Original Peameal (Maple aioli, kale, tomato, bacon, cheese, egg - $8.25). My sandwich arrived after a short and reasonable wait. I've spoken about peameal bacon and it's deep connection to Toronto before, but ultimately, peameal is the most "Toronto food" available, if there is such a thing. It was invented in Toronto in the 1850s, thus helping to secure Toronto's eventual nickname of "Hogtown." The unsmoked back bacon is made from centre-cut pork loin, trimmed of fat, wet-cured in a salt and sugar brine and then rolled in cornmeal. It is not the same as Canadian bacon although the two are often confused for one another. The peameal sandwich has become somewhat of a signature sandwich in this city and this particular one is supposed to be one of the best of the best. I was excited. My sandwich was handed to me piping hot and oozing with golden egg yolk. I dove in and paid special attention to the peameal itself at first. Thick cut and briny in flavour, it tasted extremely legit and a lot less processed than other versions that I've come across. The meat was juicy and tender, ready to party with all of the other ingredients. I loved the way that their simple and basic bun managed to house so much goodness. The runny egg was fried perfectly, the vegetables were bright and fresh, the cheese was super melty, and sure, throw some delicious salty bacon on there, 'cause more pig products are better than less. The sandwich is actually fairly small but it packs a big, messy, delicious flavour. Grab some extra napkins for this one. Also. If you're feeling extra fancy you can add truffle sauce and/or foie gras to your sandwich. So... Keep that in mind. I know I will. There are other sandwiches available as well. Their porchetta and smoked meat are very popular items. However, as a jerk chicken fan, I loved seeing the prevalence of it on their menu. I noticed the Jerk Chicken Leg ($4.95) and knew that this would be the perfect way to try what they've got going on in the world of jerk. The blistered and spicy skin was seasoned to perfection. I loved the heat and the char and appreciated that nothing was being held back in terms of big, bold flavours. Inside, I was delighted to encounter the most juicy and delicious, perfectly cooked chicken. This is what jerk chicken can and should be. When the Pig Came Home also makes JERK. CHICKEN. PATTIES. So. We'd heard such good things we wanted to try it. We split a porchetta sandwich and a classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Maybe we got them on a bad day, but the porchetta was just "meh" - pretty flavourless and not actually all that fresh tasting. We went mid-afternoon so maybe it had sat in a steamer all day until we got there. Can't say. The crackling wasn't so much nice and crispy as it was alarmingly reminiscent of finding bits of hard, ground glass in your sandwich. We did quite enjoy the Philly cheesesteak, though. Great tastes and texture. I would definitely go back for another of those.

One of my favorite smoked meat sandwiches in the city. They also have a great Jamaican beef patty. Always need to make a stop when I'm in the area.

One of the best sandwiches Toronto has to offer. The first bite was simply out of this world. The porchetta was fatty and juicy and just fell apart. The grainy mustard, provolone cheese and truffle sauce really elevated the taste of this sandwich. This butcher shop in The Junction is no joke when it comes to making delicious sandwiches.

House porchetta sandwich 13.75 First bite and I was sold! Great bun! Tender juicy pork, nice little crunch with the cracklin bits added in Rapini works perfectly with it. Sauces combined were a excellent creaminess. Loved the truffle sauce. Not to truffley either. (I'd even recommend to non truffle lovers maybe) All put together with thought! Truffle sauce on the bottom with the Rapini and cracklin topped with Pork an the rest on the top bun. Makes for a great flavor profile bite! Also got to sample the beef cheek they use for the smoked meat sandwich and it was also excellent. Would definitely try it next time. Super chill staff. Must try if your in or around the area. I'd make the mission for it.

OMG. Seriously. OMG! I went here based on Yelp reviews. And I am so glad that I did! I ordered the House Porchetta, and a large potato salad (comes with crunchy onion pieces, yum yum, although not enough!). I totally forgot to R-E-A-D the rest of the menu, so I forgot to add foies gras for $4.75. Guess it's an excuse to go back - SOON, but I was sad when heard someone order the foies... ! The house porchetta sandwich was just so spectacular....lots of incredibly well-seasoned, wonderful porchetta, with Truffle aïoli, provolone, on a fab brioche bun.... OMG! I mean O-M-G SERIOUSLY!!! And, moist, but not GREASY AT ALL, as it should be! (as opposed to the porchetta roll in 'Sauga...Sigh...) I skipped the chili sauce, since I'm SO NOT into heat... And anyway, I'm spicy enough! (BTW, I shake my chest when I say this in person!!) I finished the pig sandwich, then ate about 4 bites of potato salad, and took the rest home (it was delicious btw!). They also sell meat, sauces etc. I bought a package of thick cut pemeal. And a bottle of the truffle aïoli sauce, great deal at $7 bucks, and it'd taste great on a shoe for god's sakes!! I have to go back.....Very soon! For the record. This place is 1,000 times better than Porchetta Roll in Mississauga (see my review of them). I think Pig needs a sign above their window with their Name on it, I had NO idea where they were! (see pics below, btw, they're on the south side, immediately west of high park road) The only pain in the neck part is the parking... You gotta find street parking, and Dundas is a very busy street! But. Parking headaches are so totally worth it for this place... Plus, Pâtisserie 27 is close by, on Jane, and their pastries are to Die for...So.....Two birds...One stone, anyone?!!

Was in the mood for a nice thick deli sandwich and so thought I would give "When the Pig Came Home" a try. Had the smoked meat sandwich special, comes with coleslaw, pickle, and a drink. The sandwich was piled high with smoked meat and was quite delicious. I noticed a sign out front noting they were closing and as such, didn't have any Peameal or Porchetta. Not to worry though, was speaking with one of the staff and he noted that they were just moving down the road to Keele street.

The junction area is really starting to become one of my go to spots for new restaurants to check out. We accidentally found this place as we were killing time before our brunch reservations. This is my second time here, the first time we got a Jamaican patty to snack on. It was really flakey and good. Is it as good as Randy's on Oakwood and Eglinton? I'd say It's a close second but this one is cooked with a hint of curry taste to it. Really really good and flavourful. The most recent visit, I popped by to grab a meal to eat while watching the Raptors playoff game at home. Ended up with the smoked meat sandwich, and house porchetta. Both sandwiches were incredible, although I gotta warn that the smoked meat sandwich does have a slight kick to it. The house porchetta was amazing as well, pork was nice and tender, juicy, with some crispy bits of skin. A must try if you come by. The beauty and charm of this place is that it really has that mom and pop shop vibe. It reminds me of a farmers market feel as well, lots of little oils, pastas, peppers, artisanal salt, dry aged steak etc. Looking forward to trying other items on the menu.

Having been to all of the staple smoked meat shops in Montreal (Schwartz, Snowdon Deli, Dunn's, etc.), I was really excited to see what Toronto had to offer in the smoked meat department. I went in with high expectations (as When The Pig Came Home had been hyped by many) and I'm happy to say expectations were met. What I got was a delicious smoked meat sandwich on rye, with a generous portion of thick cut smoked meat, a perfect amount of mustard, and a pickle to top it all off. Service was efficient, COVID-friendly and pleasant all around. If you're craving smoked meat, this is the place to go if you're in Toronto.

Sweet Jesus what a spot. There have been so many times where I've been walking the Junction neighbouhood and walked passed this spot, the line was long and I made a mental note for 'next time' but it's been several years and next time never came - until a recent meeting brought me here for lunch. It's a small spot, with deli in the back and sandwiches to go (or stay) up front. I cruised the menu and knew as soon as I saw the description for the House Porchetta that this was going to happen. Brioche bun, slow roasted Italian style porchetta (pronounced Pour-ket-ta... not Pour-shetta - you savages), grainy mustard, special sauce and melty cheese. Mmmmmm yeah, I'm not sure who was taking advantage of whom but I felt so good that I had to be doing something bad. Pretty sure the guy next to me left because of the love I was making to this sammy. My one gripes would be the sandwich was a bit small, I wish it could have been bigger, and the seating was a little limited, but if you're grabbing and going, this isn't an issue. I can't wait to try other popular options here next time I'm in the hood. Eatcrest Out

When The Pig Came Home is located near the south west corner of Dundas and the end of High Park Ave in the Junction. Not since I've been to Shadow Meats Squared in Seattle did I have a truly transcendent almost out of body experience when having a sandwich. That was way back in 2014 and believe me when I say there have been many, many sandwiches consumed in the past 4 years that had the opportunity to bring me to the same place where SM2 was able to bring me to which was essentially sandwich Nirvana. When The Pig Came Home is a small footprint of a butcher shop along with serving made to order hot sandwiches. They have what is dubbed the original peameal on a bun for 5 bucks but with variations of this. I mean you can add an egg for a dollar or a slice of cheddar or double smoked bacon for another dollar. Basically you can get a fully loaded breakfast sandwich for 8 bucks. Porchetta under the lights, behind glass for your viewing pleasure much like the other restaurant for which it is their namesake. They have options to add rapini (yes it's called rapini not broccoli rabe you Americanos) or provolone for a buck or truffle sauce for 75 cents. If you've never had pork and rapini together let me tell you that it's a magical combination just like bacon and eggs or wings and beer. They truly go together like any other duo that just belongs to complement one another. Now the thing is I didn't order the sandwich this go around. It was my friend who had ordered what seemingly was a special called "The Ben" because I didn't know what was in it but I ate it. How's that for a review? I'm about to give 5 stars to something in which I didn't even know what it was exactly but at the time I didn't care. I mean this was a sandwich and not some sort of debilitating recreation drug. I've read before in the past of people trying to explain what it was like to experience crack cocaine. I mean I'm NOT into those type of things at all nor am I interested but I just remember reading somewhere where somebody tried to describe it as a full body orgasm. For me, this sandwich was as close as I could probably get to explaining it in words for simply just eating this "The Ben". Looking back at the picture because I was in some sort of trance when I was actually consuming half of this thing that came down from heaven to me it looks to be some sort of sandwich that looks like what's described above as peameal, smoked strip bacon, cheese and egg. I'd be lying if I told you that I knew exactly what I was eating or if I had even bothered to look between the bread. I just bit, chewed, went somewhere on a spiritual level, swallowed and repeated this process about 5 or 6 times before returning from where ever it was I went for those few minutes. I swear it had to be the best thing I remember eating since the Korean fried chicken at Turntable. It was that freaking good. I have to stop talking and thinking about this because now I want to go there and I can't really go just now. Besides having amazing sandwiches this place is also a butcher. Maybe it's a great idea to get a sandwich AND bring home some meat for good eats at home too. I'd most definitely buy some special types of bacon (yes, plural) for the future. The seating at this place is rather limited to just bar stool seating facing the front window. I noticed a few people taking hot food to go in additional to purchasing raw meat as well in the short time we were there which was just before closing.

During the time of coronavirus, I went to When The Pig Came Home for takeout and had a fantastic experience. I ordered my two favorites, The Ben and The Joseph. The Ben was out-of-this-world good; the richness of the peameal and the porchetta, combined with the texture of the crackling, and the blend of all flavors was outstanding. The Joseph was a change of pace, a bit more subdued experience compared to The Ben, but still flavorful with the awesome beef cheek smoked meat and a lovely soft milk bun. Service is warm, fun and friendly. Highly recommended!

So you know when you find a great spot and you can't enough?! Found it! This chef does the summer markets in the Junction area and he's got neat vibe. His new spot really fits with the area and the people and the personality of the neighbourhood. Conveniently located at Dundas and High Park, chef Ryan knows his flavours. And the prices are reasonable! Go in and ask for Ryan. Tell him Eric the sourdough baker sent you. Then watch! Happy Saturday!!

Absolutely love these sandwiches. I stopped by today on my way home. Lots of outdoor seating to wait for takeout. Awesome guys working inside and amazing sandwiches. I got the peameal sandwich on a bun with an egg. Perfect combo with tomato kale and mayo. Homemade in a cast iron skillet just like grandma used to make.

What prompted me to try this restaurant in the first place was that I thought its name was so cute, haha. The restaurant closed at 5 p.m. I got there pretty close to closing time, so I missed House Porchetta, but luckily I had Jerk Chicken and Beef Patty. It's very authentic Jamaican cuisine and I think Jamaican food here would be in the top 10 in Toronto. I'll try House Porchetta sometime.

This isn't a restaurant--it's a food truck with plate glass. Actually, it's a very small, easy to miss storefront in a trendy and vibrant area. There are no real tables, so it's take out only for the most part. Bau make sure you take it out! I checked Yelp for places near where I had meetings, and this place popped out. After walking past it a couple times, I went in and ordered the House Porchetta and found a bus bench to sit down on to eat. It was a nice sunny day, so it was rather enjoyable eating "al fresco". I averted my gave for a whole 10 seconds and my sandwich was gone. I had inhaled it. If this place had a defibrillator inside, I would have ordered a second sandwich. Worth the risk I say!

Sooooo goooood. Definitely left wanting to take one home for a later meal but instantly glad I didn't since the yummy and juiciness from the meat means there's lots of fat and one with high cholesterol would be DONE. will definitely return when I'm up for a fatty meal. BEST PORCHETTA hands down.

This place makes the absolute best, homey sizeable hearty meat sandwiches, and rich sides (we ordered the potatoes) . The minute you enter the place, you smell smokiness and experience warmth. That, coupled with the fact that the owner and servers are super nice. The place isn't that big - a bench and side counter, so it's good to get there early.

Yay! Thanks to my fellow Yelpers who reviewed this place. We walked two hours in -20 degree weather to try it out. Space: very limited seating. Mostly a take out spot. Service: sooo friendly and hospitable, guys behind the counter clearly want you to become a regular. Genuine people. Also, they let me use their bathroom, which is in the basement through the kitchen, without being jerks. Food: almost TOO much choice. We got the original porchetta plain ($5, very small) and the house pancetta. The buns were sooo soft and pillowy, meat was hot and perfectly cooked. We would definitely go back and try some of their other sandwiches. Place was super busy the entire time with a generous stream of folks.

No one eats more than I do. Seriously. I'm a fat fat man in a little man's body. I've eaten all over this city and only now started to write reviews, because my wife's sister got invited to be a yelp elite and she can't even boil water and only eats where I tell her to, so I'll start with my favs: One of the best sandwiches I've had in the city. Porchetta with extra crackling and foie gras and cheese and maple aioli. So damn good. Much better than porchetta and co and even better than the one I used to think was the best...the Bay cafeteria porchetta they serve every other Thursday for lunch...also supoib. The jerk sandwich was also great but that porchetta was unreal.

Smoked Meat on Rye: This is the best sandwich I have ever had. Perfect balance of textures and spices, the beef cheek is like a more-tender-than-tendon consistency, and I've never met a friendlier staff. Absolutely worth the 11 hour drive. Also: the vegetarian patty was delightful; like a light and crisp hybrid of a samosa and a pasty. Porchetta: fabulous, messy, worth the stains on your shirt (don't judge me, I smell delicious). Pea meal: I could eat this everyday! But I'm so in love with the Smoked Meat, I would be torn between a Pea Meal and eating another half of my husband's Smoked Meat sandwich. Keep doing what you're doing, cool dudes!

When The Pig Came Home, there was delicious food to be found! This establishment located on Dundas West is such a delight, and has really formed its own community with the area. I was invited to try out some of their delicious offerings by the owner, who was a very kind man and really guided my partner and I through the cuisine that they had to offer, along with his staff that were also working. You can definitely tell that the service who work there treated each other not as colleagues, but almost like family. We started off with your classic Ginger Ale/Canada Dry and Coke straight from the fridge, being guarded by a very beautifully crafted Pig atop the fridge! It's a very rare occurrence to find pop in its glass containers, so I was really excited to have a nice cold coke. In fact, this was probably my first time seeing Canada Dry in a glass bottle form! Both my partner and I really enjoyed these two drinks. The first sandwich to greet us was this delicious looking Smoked Meat Sandwich, which was a simple creation of smoked pork meat sandwiched in between two loafs of white bread that had a spread of mustard on it. At first, I was a bit stunned at how homemade this sandwich looked, and then when I took my first bite I was baffled. It was such a delicious piece of meat first off - I was concerned that having smoked meat would be rather dry, but I was impressed and pleasantly surprised by the tenderness and savoury flavours of the meat. Secondly, the meat was already so packed with flavour that the white bread and mustard simply complimented the meat to make one really amazing sandwich! This is definitely a must have if you decide to go to When The Pig Came Home! We were then greeted by the House Pork Sandwich which was truly my favourite meal to come by. The pork was glazed beautifully in a house sauce and complimented itself with its own fat for taste. The bun was also of high quality, and this sandwich incorporated steamed vegetables in garlic as well. The steam vegetables really hit home with me because it added to the richness of the pork. My first bite into this sandwich and I was truly in awe. I was very excited to see what was coming next! Next up, we had the Original Peameal Sandwich and Jerk Chicken. Peameal (something that I learned during my visit) is actually a type of bacon that was created and originated from Toronto! That was a really interesting fact that I wasn't aware of before my visit. The sandwich was a nice treat, it tasted almost like a Germany schnitzel in bread. This came with a side of what I believe was honey dijon, which was also great to have. The Jerk Chicken was definitely a treat as well - personally I don't turn towards the jerk variety because of my lack of tolerance for spice, however this jerk chicken was very succulent and not so spicy at all. If you wanted to make it spicy (which my partner did!) you're given a side of fermented hot sauce which will add just the spicy kick you want!Fun fact: The Original Peameal Sandwich use to be the only menu option at When The Pig Comes Home - it wasn't until over time that they started adding more options to the menu. another fun fact as well, When The Pig Comes Home has been catering to their customers tastes by actually naming sandwiches after them based on additions that they have made to their sandwiches! It's a menu specifically made for any customer that creates their own menu choices, and I thought this was just a spectacular idea. Overall, it was truly a pleasure being able to visit this location - I only wish that it was closer to downtown! However, if you're around the area, say hello to Ryan - he was such a kind man and he will definitely treat you like family when you arrive at the shop. When The Pig Comes Home was definitely a treat and I'd recommend this wonderful place to anyone I meet that's looking for great sandwiches! This place is all kinds of awesome. Where to start????? Peameal on a bun get the "Ben"!! Porchetta on a bun take the house special! The sausages are awesome ..my fav so far is the pork and veal with apple and blue cheese! Also..do yourself a favour get them to make you a charcutteri board for a party... amazing! The owner and his partner (I assume) are super friendly and make you feel welcome. This is going to be a regular haunt for us!

I read about this place on my go to site, BlogTO and saw smoked meat sandwiches so my eyes became sparkly. I knew I had to try this place with my boyfriend. The last good smoked meat sandwich I had was at Schwartz's in Montreal. I kid...you...not..how this place does theirs wins Schwartz's. (at least to me) I know, to Montrealers this may seem like blasphemy but let me explain. The quantity is definitely smaller than Schwartz's, but the quality is there. The meat has a thicker cut, and some lovely charred edges that Schwartz's does not give you. The charred edges give it a more interesting touch. I also loved the porchetta sandwich, it had some crispy parts, and at the same time a soft chew to it. But the smoked meat sandwich was the winner for me. Great new spot. I have yet to try the peameal though! Highly recommend!

I've had pretty much everything on their menu and it's all expertly crafted and absolutely delicious! From the House Porchetta Sandwich to the scratch made Patties, you can't go wrong! It's mostly a take out joint but there are a few seats inside. Enjoy!

This newly opened delicatessen opened up in the neighbourhood not too long ago! Finally got to try and wowza! I'm loving it so far. Inside is simply, clean and on display under the heat lamp are MEATS--vegetarians this is not for the faint of heart! They have some cured meats available for purchase but seems like they focus on their cooked versions that made into sandwiches, ie, jerk chicken, Peameal, purchette, etc. I tried the $5 Peameal sandwich (+$1 for an egg +$1 for cheese) and it was wonderful! Just wonderful! I'll definitely be back to try out more! Seating is limited to 3 stools at the front and a bench outside.

The sandwiches (porchetta, peamel) EXCELLENT! I would return to the junction just for the food. They could use some AC, cashing out process a bit slow. Staff was really friendly and highly likable. Can't wait to try smoked meat.

This place is truly amazing. My wife and I really enjoyed our lunch here. We shared the Philly Steak Sandwich (very moist and tasty). The real star for me was the smoked meat (which we ordered on the side instead of in a sandwich). The flavour was beyond anything I have ever tried in meat. I also agree with Shirley D, as great as Schwartz's in Montreal is, the smoked meat here had much more unique (almost candied?) flavour. Definitely give it a shot if this kind of food is your thing. The other thing like about this place is: - It's an actual butcher shop and they sell dry aged steaks, sausages, cured meats, cheeses. - They also carry a variety of artisanal products, both local and European. - The owner and staff are extremely friendly.

I went here for a quick bite to eat, i ordered a jerk chicken sandwich (spicy or medium are the options) and i got spicy. ..... it's the best jerk chicken I've ever had, they definitely know how to cook at this place!! The staff was amazing to talk with while waiting for my order , if your hungry do not waste your time going to A&W on the corner, the prices here are very reasonable and the food is amazing. 10/10

I was very disappointed by the taste of the food. I ordered the smoked meat sandwich which I found extremely salty (btw, I love salt). I also ordered a patty which was very greasy and very salty. I am hoping it was just an off day and might try again.

If you've been craving Montreal smoked meat sandwiches, then it's time to get yourself up to the Junction. This deli and lunch counter, opened in the summer of 2016, by Junction resident Ryan Gartner. He had been previously selling his peameal bacon sandwiches at the Junction Farmer's Market and decided to expand his business to a brick and mortar store. For us Junction residents, we're super grateful. Inside the shop, there is seating for four and a mini bench outside with seating for two. The menu is small, but perfect. You'll find sandwiches ranging from Jerk Chicken, Philly Cheesesteak, Smoked Meat, Porchetta and of course, Peameal. These sandwiches are all super customizable, thick cut and topped with housemade mustards and pickles that will make your mouth water on the spot. One thing to note: the cash-out process can be a bit slow, as a bar design is a bit rough. But all in all, it's a super positive experience and all your sandwishes come true in this place.

Fantastic sandwiches, we tried 3 of them and they were all great! I don't usually feel fulfilled by eating a sandwich for dinner but these are amazing. You can get a side if you like to make it more like dinner. Our kids thought the peameal sandwiches were awesome too!
