The Best of Weird Florida

"Using countless bottles, tile mosaics, and more than anything, bowling balls, the private Florida residence known as Whimzeyland has taken two decades to cover its grounds with a non-stop explosion of color.  Florida artists Todd Ramquist and Kiaralinda have spent the last 20 or more years turning their home and neighboring properties into flamboyant works of art. Originally known simply as the “Bowling Ball House” for the (now over 500) painted bowling balls littering the yard in various formations. Pyramids, stacks, and walls of bowling balls adorn the grounds, surrounded by a dizzying landscape of color created by the other works of recycled art all around. Gardens made of colored bottles, rainbow mosaic pathways, and bright ceramic sculptures abound creating an almost otherworldly atmosphere. Whimzeyland also features a small gallery where bowling balls decorated and donated by other artists are put on display for visitors to view." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

It is a symbol of folk art and a place like a treasure. With the most ordinary things, it presents a stunning visual beauty. In the future, come here to learn and learn from the back garden practice. Although this place is small, it may be as big as a small house for an ordinary family. There is not even a decent parking space.

Bowling balls, glistening CDs, uplifting tiles, and creativity abound at Whimzeylad. Each corner holds a new surprise of artwork and upcycled design. It’s a technicolor wonderland for all ages and it’s free to visit, so it’s a great place to explore. I absolutely love folk art and creative spaces, which Whimzeyland provides in abundance. There’s so much detail, color, texture, and inspiration. You get a true sense of excitement and wonder as you walk around and notice details at each turn. It’s an invigorating space! The photos don’t do it justice, go see for yourself. Seems best for a quick stop but you could spend longer here if desired. There’s some seating in a gazebo plus art and postcards available for purchase on an honor system. There’s also a donation box at the front. Easy street parking in the neighborhood makes this handmade wonderland an effortless visit. Please remember that this is someone’s house, so be respectful of the property and the neighbors.

Hidden in a residential neighborhood is this magical wonderland of a place! Everything is made from discarded and recycled materials, if you have the time, it’s just a quick stop, 10 minutes out of your day to stroll through this fairytale that’s brings out your inner child, then you definitely should! You have to park on the street which is fine, if you go on a weekday there isn’t many people at all. Took my 3 year old twins here and they were just as amazed as I was. And if you like this place, I’d definitely check out Folly Farms which is right down the street and has a very similar vibe to it but more indulged in nature! It’s free but they encourage donations, I took a print and a stone from the little shop they have, they also have handmade items and Knick knacks that are also made from recycled materials that you can buy, there’s nobody there so it’s an honor system, they trust people to Venmo or pay with cash into the donation box. It’s really cool! You could definitely get lost in here, there’s so much to look at when you turn every corner there is more and more, I love the artwork that they’ve made out of essentially trash and turned it into beauty for others to enjoy. Highly recommend for all ages!

Google
Words cannot describe this place from bowling ball to CDs to stuff that we usually throw out made into art. Recommend if you’re in the safety harbor area to come and check it out hopefully it’s a nice cool day so you can walk around and look at the weird stuff..

Google
Trash to treasure garden with endless artsy and colorful mosaic everywhere. Such creativity. Definitely worth a visit. I loved seeing how it influenced houses throughout the neighborhood.

Google
This is a labor of love by two artists. I took a ton of pictures and have been sharing them with everyone. This is free, donations are accepted. Private tours are available by reservation and there is a fee.

Google
We came in from Panama City and detoured just to visit this place. Completely worth it. We just did the walk about..there is so much wonder and imagination that just a stroll through it raises your frequency and leaves you feeling creative and motivated and fullfilled.

Google
Very cool place to see and visit but I wouldn’t want to be a neighbor.

Yelp
Such a unique place! Located in Safety Harbor, this is a fun experience, especially if you have kids. Don't plan on spending all day here as the properties aren't huge, but there is a lot to see. So much detail has gone into the houses. Definitely a memorable experience.

Yelp
I think I expected more than it was. The pictures on-line made it appear this was a large area that we could wander through and enjoy. Instead, it's a yard around a house. We were there 10-15 minutes.

Yelp
Cool stop to checkout! You can walk around the house outside. People live inside so just be respectful. There are two houses across the street from each other all decked out. There is street parking. A bunch of people parked along the street to look at the cool house.

Yelp
Interesting private collection in Safety Harbor. It is free to public. Parking is on the neighborhood roadside. The display is on the property yard. The welcoming door place as entrance to imagination. The unique of the area are the colorful tiles all over the place. The decorative items include color bottle shape in tree, draped curtains, smiling face, large size sponge Bob, giant's stuff toy, and more. There are a lot of things to see. Even the house exterior is decorated. Across the street, they also decorated in the same way. The garden has a lot of sculptures. All decorated in colorful tiles.

Yelp
Very cool spot if you are in the area to check out. 2 houses across the street from each other with wonderful art and whimsical creations around. Hard to explain just go see it!

Yelp
Interesting items. A lot of work went into the displays. If you like 'unusual things', it is for you.

Yelp
Nice eclectic yard art. Not very big, but it is someone's yard. A good little diversion off the beaten path.

Yelp
What a cool and fun place to visit. Best free attraction in the whole state. Although you should leave a few dollars since the upkeep must be very time consuming. Wish they would remove the broken pieces out but I am sure they will be on it once it cools down a little.

Yelp
Cool spot! Stopped by the other day in the afternoon. Beautiful unique artwork. My boyfriend and I walked through the yard with our dogs which was nice. It's small, just a side yard and a front yard, but it's packed with designs and intricate art so you can take your time walking through it. I enjoyed the glass works and the tile flooring

Yelp
This is such an unique point of interest at Tampa Bay. The visit is easy-just park your car by the street and walk around the garden. Those decorative arts are colorful and funky. I looked up, looked downed. More surprises were found. The bright color arts put a smile on my face. They sure will light up your mood and make you feel happy. Check the photos I post. This is a very fun place to visit.

Yelp
Cute little hideaway! We were in the area and decided to stop by to checkout the art. It's beautifully curated, not sure who is behind the scenes setting all of this magic up but good job! Filled with colors, funny remarks, picturesque spots, great decor, and plants... I loved it all! It is a private residence as well, so it does have signs posted on where not to enter.

Yelp
When telling people about Whimzeyland there aren't quite words that encapture all of its amazing attributes. It is a must-see if you are in the area. I love taking people here just to see their reactions and how their minds process all of the art. Parking is not marked, so I often park on the street. There are two small spots but usually, these are taken. I suggest parking on the street because there are a couple of houses to check out! Before going think about bringing cash to donate or buy some art that they sell. I have bought a few pieces and I love them. Overall, this private residence is a unique use of repurposed items to make a colorful attractive art. It is mind-blowing how long it must have taken the artist to build this!!! So many little, hidden details. It is just a fun place to see and maybe grab some pictures. I also recommend checking out SHAMC their sister location!

Yelp
Such a cute little spot to check out! The artist is so creative! Loved stopping by and checking out all the unique piece of art. My mother, toddler and I loved walking around and seek for everything. **Tip you may want to use some kind of mosquito repentant because the mosquitos are really bad.

Yelp
So cute! Not exactly sure what I expected so I went in with no expectations and it was so cute and colorful. Worth a quick trip!

Yelp
My friend and I drove up from South Florida to check this out while visiting. It was beyond hot outside, so it's no wonder we were the only people there, but that made for some really great pictures and videos. Very whimzey, fun and unique!

Yelp
Just a fun whimsical place. You must stop in if you're in the area. There's so much to look at. I love the artistry and all the fun colors.

Yelp
I love the fact that someone has decorated their home for the viewing pleasure of others. This home is so nostalgic and just reminds me of childhood. It's decorated so wonderfully, full of color and so well.... Whimsical.. I will go here each time I'm in Tampa just for my inner child healing!
google avatar

Kris F.

Yelp
Cute and unique. There is no charge. You can make a donation at the bowling ball house. They also have some items for sale "tiles" etc - very creative, fun, and unique.

Ashley P.

Yelp
Very cute. I wouldn't plan a day around this place but if you're in the neighborhood and just looking to see some different styles of art or just killing time then it is fantastic. Literally is someone's front and side yard full of yard art. Took my five year old and he enjoyed the colors. There's a neat park 0.5-1mile away called folly farms. We made a day out of visiting whimzeyland and then having a little picnic at the park.

Bill G.

Yelp
A really cute and fun little place. Free to the public. If you're driving very far I don't know if I'd recommend it. It only takes about 5 minutes to see everything.

Yelp
Must see! Such a unique, eclectic place. The art work is like nothing you've seen before. The staff was super friendly and warming. They have art classes, music shows, all kinds of events.

Yelp
Such an amazing spot! It's residential but so worth the trip. Get your creative juice flowing at this pace for sure! Thank you for the owners for having such a wonderful and fun place for others to enjoy!
