Day Trips in Vancouver

"Buses from Epic Rides depart for Whistler from four different Vancouver locations. The cost is $25 round trip or $18 one way. It takes you up the stunning Sea to Sky Highway from Vancouver to Whistler, North America’s largest ski resort. Even before Vancouver got the Winter Olympics in 2010, Whistler attracted skiers from around the world. In addition to more skiable terrain than anywhere else in North America, and incredible backcountry skiing, Whistler has a toboggan park and miles of snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails. The Peak 2 Peak gondola connects the alpine areas of the Whistler and Blackcomb mountains with the world’s longest span between towers. Not only that, but Whistler’s pedestrian-only zone has an award-winning restaurant, apres ski bars, and clubs making the city a favored destination for non-skiers as well.In the summer, multiple lakes, golf courses, one of the continent’s longest zip lines, and hiking and mountain biking trails make the resort nearly as popular as in the winter. With the valley floor crisscrossed by miles of paved trails, you can rent a bike for the day to explore the area. With the summer’s late sunset, you can enjoy a long day in this special corner of the world before heading back to Vancouver." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Yelp
During a recent getaway to Vancouver, BC, one of the absolute highlights of our trip was a day excursion to Whistler. Located about two hours north of the city, the drive itself is stunning, with breathtaking views of the coastline and surrounding mountains. While we had a rental car, we opted for a comfy charter bus for the ride, we're Texans and typically don't know how to drive in the snow. We left Vancouver's lush, green landscape only to enter into a white, wonderland once entering Whistler. We were also lucky to get mostly sunshine even though it was cloudy and snowing days before we came. We were dropped off at Whistler Village, which is the main hub of the town. Whistler is home to North America's largest ski resort. While we didn't hit the slopes this time, we did partake in some winter activities and did a little tubing at one of their tube parks. Whether you're into skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, or anything else involving snow -- Whistler has it all. One of the highlights of the day was the sightseeing gondola package. It gave us access to ride up both Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, including the iconic Peak 2 Peak Gondola (separate review). The views were unreal and had panoramic views of snow covered peaks everywhere you look. We made a pit stop at the Umbrella Bar atop Whistler Mountain for some cocktails with 360-degree views. Afterward, we crossed over to Blackcomb Mountain and eventually made our way back down to the Village, where we grabbed a bite and soaked in the après-ski scene. Next time, I would dedicate a whole trip to this area alone because there is so much to do out here. I will be back.

Yelp
A Canadian Winter Wonderland [Whistler, BC Canada] We strolled in Whistler in BC Canada on Thanksgiving Day. If you've been to the ski resort village at Palisades Tahoe in California (formerly known as Squaw Valley), Whistler is a bigger version of that. In fact, Whistler is the largest ski resort in North America, it was the site of the 2010 Winter Olympics while Palisades Tahoe was the site for the 1960 Winter Olympics. We wanted to see the Olympic Rings and since we did not venture to the top of the mountain we headed over to the Olympic Town Plaza on Village North and soaked up some of the glory of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games instead. シ While Canada won the most gold medals USA won the most total medals. Lots of shops and dining places. We had crepes at Hot Buns Bakery. We wanted to stay till evening to see the village lights but, unfortunately, we had to return the rental car (w/ snow tires) in Vancouver before evening. I've only seen the beautiful colored lights in pictures. Reserve early for snowmobiles if you're planning to do this activity. Review #3601

Yelp
Whistler Village was the final destination of our Sea to Sky Highway road trip! Being in the sky rewarded us with fresh air and fantastic views of snow capped mountains. (Part 6) Whistler Village has an amazing community of retail stores, restaurants, and hotels. It's a great spot to leisurely stroll, shop, snack, and rest. Lots of families and dogs roam around the area. There's also wifi here! (although a little spotty) The only downside were the full parking lots - we struggled to find an open space.

Yelp
"Come on the amazing journey And learn all you should know" (The Who) Amazing, absolutely amazing. Whistler Village is an embarrassment of riches. It has some of the most amazing scenery I have ever seen -mountain peaks, ice capped glaciers, and pretty water sights everywhere. Add in hotels, hundreds of shops, restaurants, bars and art galleries. Hell, they even have the Olympic rings for an epic photo opportunity. They have outdoor movies and concerts for the families and tourists that come here from all over the world. Head into the village and you can count up the number of different languages and accents you hear. By the way, there was a tremendous number of young British and Australian service peoples in the hotels and restaurants Then there are the mountain bikes, literally by the thousands. The bicyclists range from toddlers up to the geriatric, dressed in helmets and pads. They squeeze their bikes into gondola cars, ride up the mountain, and then come careening down on a maze of dirt and gravel trails. Every day is an amazing wonder in Whistler Village, I absolutely loved my time here.

Yelp
This is a great place to visit any time of the year and its only two hours from Vancouver. The drive doesn't feel like two hours because of all the great views along the way. There's plenty of shopping and outdoor activities in thie resort town. In the summer, one can bike, hike, or trail run. In the winter, there's plenty of snowboarding and skiing. There are also awesome shops and restaurants and the mountain views are amazing.

Yelp
A must stop location when in Canada. Whether you are here for the summer or winter it is one place that is magical all year round. I came at the end of May and walked the entire village. There is so much to do! Shops, good food, delicious coffee, and really good bars. I could easily spend a few days in the village alone but exploring the mountain seems amazing. There were lots of mountain bikers, I had no idea the resort was used for mountain biking in the summer but it's such a good idea and I was so tempted to buy a bike just to join the fun. You can rent bikes there but I feel I'll be back many times if I go even once. I tried heading to the Olympic park but it was closed. I made the drive over anyway and on a grassy strip of road I spotted a mama bear and her two cubs!!! I was able to take photos and videos from a safe distance in my car but other cars were able to park almost right in front of them without bothering them! It was the coolest experience and added to the magic. There's so much to explore, and a few days here is absolutely perfect.

Yelp
Honestly nothing special at all unless you like winter sports. The shops suck and most of the restaurants are average. Do your research and reserve AT LEAST a month ahead of time

Yelp
Whistler village is such a cute place to go to! Lots of cute shops and restaurants. It's like Tremblant village during the summer. It converts to this little town where you can hike and leisurely stroll and window shop. I really want to come back during winter!

Yelp
Oh Whistler, dear dear Whistler...Where do I begin? The snowboarding is epic, the views are spectacular, the locals are friendly and oh dear God the food is mind blowing! I love the drive up from Vancouver, it's stunning and green and just so peaceful. I love you, see you next time.

Yelp
Great village and lovely place all year around but my favourite seasons to visit are winter and fall. Beautiful lakes and view. Awesome museum, great food, and lots of trails and activities. Summer activities food kids, biking, walking/hiking, gondola. Winter there are skiing/snowboarding, snow tubing, cross country skiing, snow hiking, walking, gondola, etc. Some cute and unique stores with cute items and souvenirs. Decent prices and all walkable. Lots of parking spaces and different hotels/inns. Highly recommend to visit and stay at.

Yelp
Whistler attracts families with children and adventure seekers alike. You will either see skiers/snowboarders or dirt bikers depending on the season. The lifts or gondola to the top is probably one of the longest, but the terrain is so beautiful you won't be bored during the ride. P2P gondola is very cool and if you are lucky (aka determined) can get a glass bottom car. If you are with the family just enjoy the beauty, if you are into skiing you know you have come to the right place. There are restaurants at top, so you won't go hungry. Helicopter rides and bus rides are also available once you reach the peak. If you go there in summer, remember to enjoy the ice creams. There are plenty of waterfalls enroute too, if you are planning for multi-day stay, which is recommended.

Yelp
possibly the best ski resort in North America. popular with skiers and boarders and a fairly short ride from Vancouver. When Whistler is too full you can also ski on its smaller sister Blackcomb.
