The Pleasure—and Pain—of Polar Plunging

"The author visited a spa in Whistler, surrounded by an old-growth forest, moving from the intense heat of a sauna to the frigid waters of a Nordic-style waterfall and pool."

"One of the best rewards at the ski day’s end is making time to relax and rejuvenate. You’ve done the workout, so why not give muscles the massage they deserve? Spas at hotels like the Four Seasons, Westin, Fairmont Chateau, Hilton, Summit Lodge, and Nita Lake Lodge allow guests to keep the treatment all in-house. But it’s also tempting to venture over to Scandinave Spa, where the Scandinavian tradition of hydrotherapy takes you outdoors into the beauty and serenity of the mountains. Afterwards, hit the town or curl up by the fire and continue the pampering. Sponsored by Tourism Whistler"

Loved my “head to toe” massage with Pan! One of the best massages I’ve ever gotten. I’ll definitely be coming back here as soon as I can. Very relaxing and functional too. I work at a desk job all day and I feel she melted all the aches and pains away

One of my favourite places to visit when needing some self care. Whether that be for a facial or massage. The healing rooms are so incredibly calming, candle lit, perfect temperate and feel tucked away. The body workers are responsive to all requests and needs when it comes to personal preferences for massages. Ive had multiple treatments at Whistler Day spa with multiple practitioners and I have always left feeling deeply relaxed and so very taken care of. It's a place where my mind can easily turn off and relax. Pro tip ask for the "Unwind" Essential Oil blend.

My husband and I came in for the 9 a.m. restorative massage with a special promotion, and it was a fantastic experience. I had my massage with Laura — such a lovely personality, muy maja! 😊I felt completely relaxed, the tension melted away, and I nearly fell asleep. I left feeling refreshed and will definitely be back. My husband had his massage with Milda and said she was absolutely incredible. He felt a real difference afterward and appreciated her professionalism and thoughtful recommendations. He’d love to return to her again. We both 100% recommend this place!

Such a great experience! We were greeted with a smile and by our names when we walked in. Our therapists were right on time. My therapist, Jade, was amazing. She is kind, a good listener, very concerned with making sure she knew what I wanted done. She is funny and personable. One of the best massages I have ever had. Ask for Jade if you schedule a massage here!

Thilia!! Thilia!!! Omg! Went to the Whistler Day Spa today and had the 100 minute Tranquility Ritual spa package with Thilia. I had asked her for a more “firm”massage pressure and boy did she deliver!! She was absolutely AMAZING & an extremely talented therapist. In the past I have often been disappointed by massages in general because I’ll ask for firm pressure, but really end up getting just a light back rub (not an actual massage). Today however, I was beyond happy with the pressure & service I received with Thilia! She managed to seriously work out the knots in my muscles yet simultaneously make everything so soothing & relaxing! She gave me an amazing experience complete with sugar scrub, aromatherapy, full body massage (where she workout out some major knots in my shoulders, neck, & back), and then gave me a heavenly scalp massage & facial. It is true what a few other reviews have mentioned: the spa itself isn’t a super luxury experience so if you go in with those expectations you may be disappointed. However, I thought the space was simple, cute and clean. The bottom line is the massages. This was one of the best massages I have ever had & I highly recommend Thilia! Can’t wait to go back & see her again!

I had an amazing experience at Whistler Day Spa! The massage was one of the best I've ever had - deeply relaxing. The receptionist was warm and welcoming, making the whole visit feel comfortable for start to finish. Highly recommended!

Google
I had the best time! My massage with Roberto was amazing and I would come back in a heartbeat! Just what the doctor ordered after a week on the slopes. Make sure you leave ample time before or after your treatment to enjoy the hot tub, swimming by pool and sauna.

Excellent massage! I had the head to toe massage medium pressure with Milda. It was lovely and very relaxing. The facial massage at the end was otherworldly, and perfectly soothing. I highly recommend her and the day spa.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I wanted a couples massage. While they were not able to accommodate that specific request, we were able to book separate massage both of which were fantastic. Honestly one of if not the best massages I've ever gotten! The facility has a nice hot tub and heated pool for use before or after your massage.

Yelp
I went in for the Alpine Escape - a massage and a facial. En route from my hotel, it started to pour. Like torrential downpour. Everyone on the village stroll was running into the nearest restaurant or shop for cover. By the time I arrived at the spa, I was soaked, literally dripping. The receptionist gave me a towel and offered me tea to warm me up. The massage was a massage, nothing spectacular and probably overpriced for what it was. The facial though, now that was amazing. It has been 4 days since my appointment and my skin still feels so moist and plump. 100% the best facial I have ever had. Sure, the prices are steep but they all are in Whistler. Given the service received, I have no hesitation in leaving 5 stars and booking again in the future.

Yelp
My friend and I made appointments for the 60 minute massage. We have had dozens of massages and this was by far the worst one I've had. The name of the place is whistler day spa. We were expecting ting a spa experience. This place is a hotel spa and nothing like a normal spa you think of when your wanting to relax and have a nice massage. When making the reservation, the lady told us we could come early to use their facilities. They had a lap pool, 2 hot tubs, and a sauna. The pools and hot tubs were outside and all the hotel guests can use it. We got there and checked in. The receptionist was super sweet and kind. She gave us a locker and showed us to the changing room. It was tiny! They do supply towels, a robe, and slippers so that was nice. We sat in the hot tub for a bit but it was really hot so we couldn't stay in for to long. We sat in the "waiting room" until our scheduled times. The waiting room is in the hotels fitness center. The massage itself was very disappointing. First off, the masseuse was super sweet and nice. The massage itself was terrible. It was supposed to be a full body massage. She did my back and legs. Quite a bit of time was spent on my ankles. As I said before, I have had many massages. It almost seemed like she wasn't actually trained in massage. The massage oil was cold and the tiny room we were in smelt like a toothpaste factory. We will definitely try a different spa the next time we are here. I don't recommend this place to anyone that wants a real relaxing spa experience.

Yelp
Fantastic massage, great staff. I booked a massage here and it was fantastic. highly recommended. The staff is great, and my therapist was one of the best. Definitely recommended if you are in the village. Also you get access to the pool hotel which is an added bonus.

Yelp
Came here as part of my birthday celebration for a full body massage. It was one of the best massages I have ever had! I was so sad when it was over...pressure was perfect, she continuously checked in on me to make sure it was all good, but not in an annoying way. The oils were wonderful and the atmosphere was very relaxing. It all felt very safe and they adhered to all Covid safety measures. I don't think I need to try any other place when I'm in Whistler...will definitely return.

Yelp
Got a spa mani and mini pedi. The prices are quite steep but it is also a hotel spa. Unfortunately I've also had better mani pedis but my nails were in sorry shape and I didn't have any of my nail tools or polish on me. I'm very much a DIYer in nail care. However, the customer service is top notch, and my nail tech in particular was a joy to spend roughly an hour and a half with. She adhered to my requests and really took time in being thorough, which I really appreciate. My boyfriend always complains about my calluses (which I'm usually too lazy to remove myself) and even he wanted to touch my feet after she was done!

Yelp
HORRIBLE RECEPTIONIST!!! (Her name is Lauren). I had an appointment for 9:00am, with numerous text confirmations. When I went to check in, she said I'm not on the schedule. She showed me the computer and said again, you are not on the schedule. I said I have text message confirmations. She asked me to see them. I showed them to her. Then she said, I remember talking to you yesterday and you cancelled your appointment. I said I was skiing all day yesterday. I couldn't have cancelled anything. I wasn't even on my phone. She insisted that she spoke to me and I canceled my appt. Never once did she apologize for the mix up. She asked if I would like her to call the therapist to see if she could come in, like I was making things so difficult for this receptionist. When I checked out, all she could say was, I'm glad we could fit you in. Never once saying she was sorry for the mix up!! All that would have received a zero star but...THE MASSAGE WAS EXCELLENT! Emily is wonderful!

Yelp
I had an amazing massage today at The Whistler Day Spa by Pui. She was very professional and kind, and I would highly recommend her. I requested firm massage pressure and she did not disappoint. Worked out all of the knots far better than any RMT or other masseuse I have ever encountered. They also have the option of using their pool, sauna and hottub before or after the treatment. I left my appointment feeling super relaxed, light on my feet and destressed! Just what I needed. If you need a massage, Pui is who you want to see! Thank you!

Yelp
Go here! The spa itself is located in a gym at the Pan Pacific hotel. The environment is not super fancy or large. There are 3 rooms total. With all that said I LOVED Natalie. She was amazing and I would recommend for you to definitely book a massage and facial with her. She is very knowledgeable about the body and various products.

Yelp
I came here with my 2 girlfriends for a massage over the weekend and all of us had mixed reviews, but this will be based on mine. I had the 50 minutes relaxation massage. When you first walk in, you're greeted and the receptionist would show you around to your lockers. While we were waiting for each other, we were able to use their amenities (pool, hot tub and sauna) which was really nice. Keep in mind, this place is not that big so you had to make sure to keep your voice level low. My massage therapist was kind and professional. She checked in for pressure, made me feel comfortable and gave me clear and precise instruction. The size of my room was quite small and cramped but all it looked organized and clean; just cluttered. Would this be my first spa choice? Probably not Would I come back? If I was visiting whistler for a getaway, probably not. If i lived locally, I wouldn't mind.

Yelp
After a night of tossing and turning on an uncomfortable bed, I was more than ready for my pre-natal massage. Booking was easy; I called Saturday night 30 minutes before they were closing for an appointment the next day. If you're booking for a weekday, be sure to check out their website for deals. I was able to get 30% off a 75 minute massage. Once you book, be sure to read through the email as they recommend coming 30 min before if you plan on parking there to receive a complimentary parking pass, to allot time to fill out health questionnaires, and to get situated. They also provide very detailed instructions on how to find the place, which is right in the Pan Pacific hotel. I did not do this so I was running around trying to figure out where it was. Lesson learned! The massage was solid. She followed my instructions to focus mostly on my legs and my back, and to feel free to keep the pressure firm. I really liked that she gave me three pillows during the massage: one for my head, one right between my knees, and one to hug since I was on my side for most of it. When I was on my back, she made sure to recline the bed to make it more comfortable. I was left feeling relaxed and happy. With a 20% tip, the massage came out to $167.96. It wasn't cheap, but it was lower than the other places in Whistler, since I wasn't really about the amenities such as hot tub, etc. The bonus with that is right down the steps is a Starbucks so that you can enjoy a cup of (decaf!) Joe after your massage. Great place with a friendly staff.

Yelp
Had an excellent facial here. Very relaxing and I felt hydrated after a long weekend of hiking in the cold. Highly recommend!

Sacha P.

Yelp
I've had many massages in my life and at many different spas in Whistler and this is hands down the best place in town! The staff is so professional and accommodating, the essential oils they use smell heavenly and if you want a firm pressure, all of their therapists can deliver which is not always the case in many spas.

Jenny R.

Yelp
I got a 90 min facial and enjoyed the products and the esthetician's style. Nice apres after making some sweet turns

Emily K.

Yelp
I've been going to this spa since I arrived here 8 years ago and I've always had positive experiences. Their staff are friendly, skilled, and professional. Rooms are clean and tidy. I also really enjoy how with certain services there's use of the outdoor pools and hot tubs. Perfect for a spa day!

Laurie H.

Yelp
Took advantage of a special they had online. Great massage from Chelsea, one of the best I've ever had. Warm and friendly staff. Thank you for relaxing me during my stay in Whistler!

Allison R.

Yelp
My expectations for a hotel spa were totally surpass pass by this place. The massage was one of the best I have ever had. The express facial was incredible. FYI this place is very small but be sure to bring your swimsuits to enjoy the outdoor hot tubs and pool.

Jaimi B.

Yelp
Chelsea is great for sugaring waxing. However getting an appointment or a response to an email for any kind of appointment is always an issue. Whenever I call there is no response, always to voicemail. Also when emailing I have to follow up more than once before I get a response. This needs improvement as it's very frustrating!

Yelp
They don't have a true manicure, pedicure set up. Do not go here if you are looking for a relaxing experience. You sit on a massage bed and it's pretty awkward, especially if you have long legs. Then you pay spa prices to sit in a closed off room.
google avatar

Tom A.

Yelp
Picked this place because of the great reviews and it did not disappoint. Chelsea did a great massage. So relaxing. The hostess was super nice and accommodating. Prices are very reasonable. Thank you Whistler Day Spa for starting our anniversary weekend off right and relaxed!!

Yelp
I had a great massage experience here! Claire was wonderful and did some great work after several days of cross-country skiing. I had the prenatal massage and it was perfect, would absolutely come here again. I highly recommend you check it out if you're in Whistler and ask for Claire, she's stellar!!

Jessica P.

Yelp
I've been getting waxed for the past 5 years and have been going to Jessica at Whistler Day Spa for 3. In my opinion, Jessica and the owner Stacey are the best in town. I always leave happy and hair free! I'm also loving the new sugaring service they just started offering!

Marie Louise S.

Yelp
I just got home from the most amazing Manicure Pedicute Facial package. I confess, I treat myself to this luxury every 4 to 6 weeks. It is the right of passage i deserve and feel fabulous for doing it. Actually all I have to do is show up and Stacey Gaff the owner of Whistler Day Spa does all the work and usually helps me put on my sandles so the work done on my now "baby bottom" soft feet, and colourful nails has a chance to dry throughly. I am a Throughly Satisfied Customer.

Katy H.

Yelp
I am 33 weeks pregnant and received a pre-natal massage last week. I would not recommend this spa for massages based on my experience. The room and bed weren't comfortable and the music played during the massage wasn't relaxing. In addition, the spa didn't have any kind of special body pillow for pregnant women. When I asked for a pillow to prop my head up, since pregnant women shouldn't be laying on their backs for long periods, the masseuse said "you won't be here long." And she also got in the bed to show me how to lay down, which didn't seem sanitary. For the price, I expected the massage to be the same quality as Bliss Spas in the W Hotels. I'd recommend to look into other options when in Whistler so you aren't disappointed. The staff was friendly, but the service and experience were subpar.

Kim D.

Yelp
My husband and I both had nice massages but nothing spectacular. I'd been willing to give 4 stars for the staff and masseuse but the facility itself is very disappointing. There is no ambiance at all and the massage rooms are right by the outside pool. The entire massage was riddled with screams from the kids in the pool. While we got good deals for decent massages in a resort community, this certainly doesn't qualify as a spa.

Yelp
This is my first time in Whistler and as much as it pained me to not go snowboarding on the BEST powder day we were here (for a week), I decided to look for a much needed spa massage. Looking for a spa online was a little difficult because I don't have a car and I'm not familiar with the area, but I found this place and although I did get lost, I finally found it and it was totally worth it ! It is part of one of the hotels located in the village, which made it harder to find, but whoever I spoke with on the phone was really helpful. They are having a $99 50-min massage special and I was lucky to find an opening last minute. Lizette was my specialist and she was so calm and pleasant and really knew what she was doing. I have had many massages but she is definitely in the top 2. If you just want someone to stroke you, getting her is a waste, she has masterful fingers and pressed me in all the right pressure points. I have a really messy back/shoulder/neck area (anyone that gives me a massage says so) but she also did my legs and arms really quick since I told her I was a little sore from riding all week. I found myself wishing that she would ask me if I wanted to extend the session because I didn't want it to end. At the end she touched my face very lightly in several strategic places which was basically the happy ending I didn't know I was looking for ;) I felt so pleasant when she was done, that I had to lie still for 10 minutes, just to soak in the zen vibrations my body was thanking me for this. I hope she's still here if I ever make it back !

Amy O.

Yelp
The worst manicure I have ever had. Cuticle was cut as if she wanted to make a steak from it, also, polish is just a mess even though it was opi. However customer service is good and everyone are friendly and polite.

Gayle L.

Yelp
My sister, mother in law, and I all had three FABULOUS massages at whistler day spa. We experienced the prenatal, Swedish, and deep tissue massages and each of us thought it was the best message we'd ever had. They also have a lovely warm pool and two hot tubs outside, along with a sauna, that rival scandinave (which I also love!). Right in town, incredibly relaxing, and great service! All three of us will definitely be back!

Liza C.

Yelp
I have been getting a brazilian wax at Whistler Day Spa for a few years now and I honestly can't think of a more down to earth, professional and personable esthetician than Stacey Gaff (Owner). I always look forward to my visits and no matter how painfull I may envision the procedure to be, The experiance is always a great one. I highly recommend Whistler Day Spa:)
