This is the 3rd time we’ve been to this property, but the first time under new ownership. Chris and Allison have made wonderful improvements throughout. We especially enjoyed the kayaks, paddleboards, canoes, Allison’s delicious pizza, campfires and observing Clarence’s playful antics. There are lots of fun activities along the Gunflint Trail: hiking, coffee at the Loon’s Nest, good restaurants, but our favorite activity was lounging on the dock at White Pine Lodge and taking in the gorgeous views. We very much look forward to returning to White Pine Lodge.

It’s always risky booking a stay somewhere you’ve never been before, but we got lucky with White Pine Lodge. My husband and I and our dog, Louie, stayed for five nights in Poplar Cabin #6. It was clean, cozy, and nicely decorated. The king-size bed was comfortable and there were two cushy and inviting chairs positioned overlooking the lake. Each morning, we were greeted by birds singing and an occasional loon call. ||In the mornings, we sat on our private dock and drank the complimentary coffee from the Loons Nest and most evenings we were able to watch the spectacular sunsets on Poplar Lake. During the day, we’d drive up the Gunflint Trail to find hiking trails. Honeymoon Bluff was a short hike with beautiful views. The Magnetic Rock Trail was a little more difficult and muddier, but it was only a few miles. We enjoyed exploring the Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center, hiking through the woods, and up to Blueberry Hill. After hiking, we’d take advantage of the canoeing, paddleboarding, and kayaking at the lodge. The artisan pizza at the White Pine Pub & Restaurant was delicious and Allison made my half with only parmesan cheese. What a treat!||Chris, Allison, and Clarence (the adorable lodge dog) were friendly and helpful hosts. They went out of their way to make our vacation special. If you’re looking for a family getaway that offers peace and quiet plus some adventure and outdoor fun—White Pine Lodge is the perfect place for you! There’s so much to do on the Gunflint Trail, we already booked our stay for next summer!

I am blown away by this beautiful gem of a place, Chris and Allison were the most amazing people. The meat lovers pizza is a perfect balance of thin crust and perfectly balanced sauce. Great selection of beers . The lodge is so well maintained with everything included. 5 stars all the way

Honestly every accommodation at White Pine is fantastic from their lodge rooms to their cabins. And the view! You can't beat it. The pizza is fantastic (our fav is the Buffalo Chicken) and it's walking distance to poplar Haus if you are looking for an award-winning cocktail. Poplar lake is by far the most beautiful lake on the trail! Be careful or you just might see a moose out your cabin window (this actually happened to us).

We loved our stay at White Pine Lodge. We were in cabin 2. It was an adorable cabin and the bed was really comfortable. The dock was just a few steps away. We rented a fishing boat for half of a day when we were there and explored Lake Poplar. Our hosts Chris and Allison were wonderful! Allison makes a fantastic homemade pizza. We did a lot of exploring on the Gunflint trail and saw so many beautiful things. We loved our stay here and we will definitely be going back.

Absolutely loved our experience here! The gluten-free pizza was delicious — perfectly crisp crust, flavorful toppings, and clearly made with care. It’s not easy to find GF pizza that tastes this good especially in the North Woods, but they nailed it. What made the visit even better was the hospitality from Chris and Allison. Their warmth and genuine care for their guests really stood out. You can tell they love what they do. We’ll definitely be back — both for the pizza and the people!

We brought our family up to White Pine Lodge for the second time, and we wish we could’ve stayed much longer! Allison and Chris have done a remarkable job of creating a space that feels relaxing and truly like a getaway, rain or shine. There are so many activities to do at White Pine Lodge that we didn’t even leave the resort this time around. If you want to go off and explore even more, there are plenty of places to go nearby to continue enjoying the area. Our kids enjoyed swimming, kayaking, and paddle boarding, and there was no shortage of bonfire chats and crisp, relaxing mornings. This is hands-down, our kids’ favorite place to camp, and we will be coming back year after year for as long as we can secure an opening!

We parked our RV for 2 nights, great spot for that. No water, but they are very upfront letting you know that. The vaulted toilets were the best I've ever seen and there's water available to douse campfires. The paddleboards, kayaks and canoes are top notch. Great dock to enjoy. Lakeside sauna fabulous. Pizza and beverages in the bar/lodge delicious. Chris, Allison and Clarence are great hosts! You will be happy if you choose White Pine Lodge.

Yelp
I love this resort. The cabins on the lake are fully decorated with everything to enjoy while staying there. The lodge is amazing. A huge fireplace of stone is charming and warm. The owners are so polite, welcoming and friendly. There are 3 rooms in the lodge. They have Happy Hour 4-6 daily serving their homemade pizzas for purchase, plus gift shop merchandise. The grounds are well maintained. Many type of water sports equipment for recreation. Open all year with reasonable prices to stay.

Yelp
Just got back from another week at the new White Pine Lodge. Chris and Allison are just wrapping up their second season in running this wonderful place. Andy and Ida were no slouches, at all. Just saying that Chris and Allison are raising the bar. They have brought back the pizza dinners, they have brought back boat tours. All I see is they are improving the property, nicely. From what my brother has said, the camping hill is worth the money. They are both very nice to talk with, Chris tolerated my IT security suggestions, I am still a security nerd. If you haven't booked your time here, know that they are hitting the 12 month reservation wait list. Thank you Chris and Allison, and especially Clarence!

Yelp
Did a night of late fall camping at White Pine Lodge. What a great place! Outhouse was super CV lean and may I say cute! Free firewood, electric hook up. The lodge building is stunning, nice shop, huge stone fireplace in the cozy bar. Pizzas smelled amazing! They had beer, wine, rootbeer and more. The dock was ginormous! Nice looking cabins also!

Yelp
Beautiful property kept up well. Clean, quiet, plenty of equipment and amenities for guests to use. Terrific stay would stay here again without question.

Yelp
Our good friends took us to White Pine for dinner in front of the cozy lodge fireplace. The pizza was fantastic and the owners Chris and Allison were great hosts along with their sweet dog Clarence. A beautiful sunset setting on Poplar Lake. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We had a loaded pizza that was awesome! Top notch service and such a beautiful property! I definitely recommend staying here!

Yelp
The cabins are cozy and lovely and outfitted with everything we needed. Ida and Andy are friendly and helpful, with advice about local snowshoe trails and eating establishments. The location could not be more beautiful, and our family -- including the dog -- would go back in a minute!

Yelp
Stayed at Big Bear Lodge and Cabins in February 2019. We wanted a north woods winter escape that was secluded and quiet with a great lake view in a cabin near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area - we got that and so much more! Cabin #3 sets just a few feet from Poplar Lake with an amazing panoramic view from the cabin's living room and kitchen table. Cozy cabin with vaulted ceiling and original log beams had everything we needed to make meals if we wanted. The most comfortable bed, blankets, couch, and modern amenities like stove, microwave, running water, shower, gas heater, dishes, coffee pot, and wood burning stove! The lodge is beautiful with a huge stone fireplace and great seating areas to hang out and relax. Owners, Andy and Ida, are super friendly, down to earth, and are so gracious. On the historic Gunflint Trail just 45 minutes from Lake Superior and downtown Grand Marais. Can't wait to go back in the spring, summer, and winter!!
