This place was a gem.... Not very much to do here, but if you appreciate Confederate history, you'll have fun here and enjoy the monuments, and if you're a whiny liberal snowflake, I recommend you stay away from here... The Confederate monuments might hurt your sissy feelings.... On a serious note, there is a lot of rich history here and it is amazing to know this city still has an endearment attitude towards the confederacy.... Beautiful!!!!

Last while in South Carolina, visiting my son, we went to what he called Battery Park. It was a really nice breeze off the the day I think you call it. I couldn't stay there all day watching the birds nesting in the trees just Out Of Reach. Stop and talk to so many people about the birds and the area and it was just a lovely day

Google
Lovely garden on the peninsula of Charleston. Enjoyed reading the historical markers and spending a leisurely morning. Lots of benches and beautiful views! Well maintained parks. Looks like they are upgrading the sea wall and road around the park. We look forward to coming here again when the work is complete,

The white point gardens is a beautiful walk and great photo op spot. The wading pool is a highlight and is enjoyable for kids. The swings by the dock and pier were beautiful to sit on and enjoy the beauty of the waters ahead. Great spot.

Stunning historic park. Set along the river where you can stroll and take in the history and beauty of the neighborhood. Quiet and peaceful.

As a photographer I love capturing weddings, portraits, and landscapes at this beautiful location.Sometimes I just like to go down there to spend the having a picnic, and enjoy a beautiful sunrise, our sunset.

Yelp
It's a free public park to visit, with nice towering shady trees, benches, a gazebo, defunct Civil War cannons, and statues. What I really loved was all the unique birds that live in this park...birds that do not exist in my native Southern California. I just love birds.

Yelp
At the southern tip of the Charleston peninsula sits White Point Gardens and the Battery. It's where the Ashley and Cooper Rivers meet to form the Atlantic Ocean (according to locals), and is a must-see for visitors. It is a nearly 6-acre historic public park located at the tip of the Charleston Peninsula overlooking Charleston Harbor and Cooper River. The park entrances visitors with its beautiful water views, graceful live oak trees, and historic monuments. formerly known as Oyster Point - it is a lovely spot to sit on a bench and enjoy the view under the shade of live oak trees. Amazing history: Originally, the park was used as a fortification during the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, and several cannons from both eras remain on site as a reminder of the city's military past. it hasn't always been as pleasant as it is now. It's the first point on peninsular Charleston reached by ships heading up from the harbor entrance. As such, White Point Gardens served military purposes at various times in its history: a watch tower was built on the location in the late 1680s and locals added cannons and entrenchments in the early 1700s save time for a break beneath the old live oaks in nearby White Point Garden where several Civil War relics and memorials commemorate the city's role in the battle. Ocean views, gentle breezes, large shady oak trees, and oyster shell pathways are enough to make anyone want to pull up a blanket and have a picnic on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Today, White Point Garden attracts both locals and tourists to its historic monuments and markers, shaded benches, and gazebo, which hosts weddings and other events.

Yelp
White Point Garden is a nice old, historic park near the water that borders the Battery. It has historical statues and monuments and cannons dating back from the Civil War times, old nice trees and a cute gazebo. The place must have suffered some damage because it was under renovation when we visited and couldn't fully check out all the areas and some views. When you visit a place, you 'd like to be able to see everything so I was a tad disappointed. Otherwise, cute shady place off the water with a nice neighborhood near by.
google avatar

Tina T.

Yelp
Nice public park near the water. Lots of pretty trees, a gazebo, statues, and old cannons. There was some construction going on in the area so no view of the water from the park unless you walk around. It looks like they are expanding and adding a walkway which will be cool once it's all opened up. The trees are beautiful, I'm sure it's even prettier in the spring. Great place to stroll around when you're looking for some peace and quiet.

Yelp
Located at the bottom of Charleston, it's a beautiful park with amazing views. You can walk past historic homes. I wished they had more shops for eating and drinking, especially on a hot day when you want to have some ice cream or water. The pile of cannonballs are worth checking out.
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
There was a ton of construction around entire park so had to climb over some stuff but still worth the trip. Beautiful statues !
google avatar

Yelp
This park is at the edge of historic Charleston. On the grounds are many huge trees, a pavilion, and a few nice gravel dirt trails. Parking will be tough. There is free parking along the edge of the waterfront, but in the neighborhood you'll need a permit to park. You can probably best enjoy the park by sitting and watching the water. Otherwise it's going to be a very very short visit.

Yelp
We loved hiking through Charleston to end up at this commercial free park on the tip of the town. It's nice to have a place / space zoned free of commerce. We enjoyed the breeze, this history of this fortified, defensible trading post. The sea wall has picturesque views of the sea. The garden has beautiful oak trees and in them local birds roosting, watch out!
google avatar

Heidi M.

Yelp
Beautiful park and space to relax and enjoy a little time to yourself. The park is very peaceful and a short walk to many historic homes in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Have you ever been to The Battery? Than you have been to White Pointe Gardens. It's such a relaxing and peaceful place to get away from it all. It's one of the most photographed spots in Charleston. Drive around and hopefully you'll find parking right along the streets. Then get out and walk around or sit for a spell and enjoy the views of the harbor and a cool breeze. There's always people walking, jogging, playing with their pets, or looking for a scenic spot to take pictures. I come down often to just clear my head. It's one of my go to spots for a little selfcare. Visitors and locals are plentiful and the vibe of the area just seems to relax everyone because everyone is always friendly.

Yelp
We stopped here before we headed back home, so the kids could run around and play some first. It is such a nice little area. You have beautiful views of the water and several statues to see and appreciate. Also, many of the oak trees are really big and beautiful. Great little place to let kids get their energy out and just enjoy being out for a bit.

Yelp
White Point Garden turned out to be quite a beautiful place.  We came here recently to enjoy the grounds and soak up some history and had a very enjoyable visit. The view of the harbor from here is exceptional, and you can even see Fort Sumter in the distance.  This highlighted the general sense of history and Charleston's rich heritage for me; I definitely need to visit Fort Sumter soon :-) Despite the beauty of the site, the crowds were pretty minimal on the day we were there, so we spent a leisurely time strolling the grounds and enjoying the shade under the numerous heritage trees. Noticing a large number of birds during our visit, I checked on Google and discovered that Battery Park is a rookery for Black Crown Herons.  This is a definite plus for bird watchers; it also means that you need to watch where you sit to avoid the droppings ;-)

Yelp
Such a cool place! I stopped here briefly when passing through Charleston. They have magnificent trees! It would be a great place to have a picnic. I like that you are close to the water, so you can take a stroll along the coastline or sit down on a bench and birdwatch. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Relaxing garden, super walkable and a bit of history. You can come here and bring lunch or sit by the water. Has a bit of a zen vibe! Right along side rainbow row.
google avatar

Kara M.

Yelp
White Point Garden is a great activity to incorporate with your visit to the Battery and Rainbow Row in this historic city, it's a short walk away. The park is open from dawn until 11 PM. Pets are welcome, but they must be leashed from 9-5. This is first and foremost a waterfront park, but there are a couple of things to see as you stroll through. We spotted military memorabilia, a gazebo and a couple of statues. I enjoyed seeing all of the beautiful homes surrounding this park too!
google avatar

Amy Lauren S.

Yelp
If you've seen touristy pictures of Charleston, like kids sitting on fountains or people playing on a stack of replica cannon balls, you've seen White Point Garden. It's one of the most photographed areas of town, but still worth visiting if you're in the area. The carriage tours pass by here, and in the afternoons, you can find people sightseeing, sitting on the benches, or walking their dogs. The big oak trees make for a shady park to cool off and enjoy the breeze on the Battery. If you're lucky, you can snag a street parking spot too!
google avatar

Erika W.

Yelp
I love bringing visitors here, especially the ones with kids, because they love climbing on the cannons. Most of the park is shaded too, which is especially nice in the summer months when it is super hot. There is a large gazebo in the center of the park which would be nice for an engagement or wedding (or just the photos after). There is also parking along here, though more difficult to get a spot when it's busy. My most recent trip was on a weekday morning and there were several spots available since most people there were locals walking their dogs or going for a quick run.

Yelp
The park is gorgeous- tons of live oaks, plenty of shade and space to just plop down and enjoy that breeze coming off the water. In the tops of these gorgeous trees you should glimpse Yellow-crowned Night Herons- they are nesting here and there are little signs posted about protecting them and their habitat. There is a beautiful gazebo just off center of the park too- I imagine popular for weddings. Fun fact is that during pirate days (early 1700's), Charleston held pirate executions here. There are an assortment of monuments around the park- one large one on the point, it's a beautiful statue but dedicated to the confederates. We had seen protesters out on Saturday (from the water)- one side of the street had about 20 people with black lives matter signs and on the other side- in front of the statue was a small group of three people waiving a confederate flag. I honestly think it is time to put all those types of monuments in one museum that discusses the history of the Civil War instead of having them out in public spaces sensationalizing a time of unrest in our country. Just my opinion. The park was lovely, maybe next time I visit the scenery might be a bit different.

Yelp
Whenever I am showing friends around who have never visited Charleston, I always make sure to stop at White Point Garden. It's truly a beautiful spot to soak up the lovely harbor views as well as the history of the city. The space is lovely and looking at the huge mansions on the street is always fun. I have fond memories coming here as a kid and playing on the cannonballs and cannons that line the water. Definitely a top 5 spot for those visiting the city.

Yelp
Very well maintained and clean park. Lots of shade from the oak trees and a small gazebo. A great place to take the dogs (I believe there is a off-leash dog area), take photos, exercise, or just go for a stroll. The view here is beautiful.
google avatar

Yelp
White Point Garden is a nice little park downtown at the Battery; sometimes referred to as Battery Park due to it's location. The park is located between the Battery and the lovely homes that adorn the streets. Pets are welcome at this park and are suppose to be on the leash from 9AM to 5PM; but there really isn't a fence, so I'd suggest keeping the leashed at all times. In the park there are plenty of huge trees providing shade during the hot summer months, statues, memorials, and historical markers.
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of our main stops when we come to town. We love waking all the way down to the battery. It was a great place to sit, relax and enjoy the breeze. There are plenty of plaques that describe what happened in the area. It's is really a beautiful area. We have been in town when the weather was not so great and the water was splashing over the wall and spraying us with the salt water. The pollen was so thick and I had a bad reaction to it. The cars left on the street were green/yellow and you could see when the wind blew the pollen fog in the air. My eyes swelled up bad. If you have allergies take something before coming to the area.

Yelp
This is a great little park with a beautiful waterfront view. Came here with family on Christmas Eve Eve. It's a great spot for photo ops and enjoying Charleston's waters. Plenty of benches and tree shade. The way the trees grow together here is so characteristically southern and quite beautiful. This is also an a great spot for people watching and reflection with plenty of monuments peppered in. A great eat spot to end your tour of Charleston.
google avatar

Yelp
A beautifully maintained garden to check out while walking around downtown Charleston. This park contains plenty of history and beautiful homes to check out. White Point Garden lines the water and is a short walk from the main areas of downtown. It's good for a walk through or to hang out in the grass for awhile. We saw plenty of people doing both when we visited.
google avatar

Angel L.

Yelp
Very well maintained garden/walking area at the forefront of battery row. Great place to take photos, walk your dog, enjoy the scenery, take in the history. I came upon it in 2009 and it's since been a favorite of mine when I'm visiting the area!
google avatar

Janis W.

Yelp
We were in Charleston to do a family photo shoot, and the photographer recommended White Point Gardens. It was the perfect setting, lots of old growth, southern trees, the water along the battery, and the historic Charleston homes. Lots of different backdrops to pick from! I highly recommend it if you're looking for a great photo destination.
google avatar

Yelp
The land overlooking the water is full of locally distinctive trees, well-manicured grass, a gazebo, and some small artillery. It's quite a beautiful area that conveys a bit of history while being a stop for a variety of people in the present. Because of the location, you're likely to get a good breeze off the water, which combined with the shade from the trees means that this is about the coolest outdoor spot in the city.

Yelp
I do believe Live Oak trees are the most lovely trees... short trunks, wide canopy, a light covering of green moss, low hanging branches and synonymous with the Old South. But those Live Oak trees are just one of many reasons I liked White Point Gardens (Park) so much. Beside the obvious that the park is loaded with Live Oak (and other landscaping), the park is maintained meticulously (manicured hedges, no signs of trash or debris and not a weed in sight. The statues, cannons and the gravel walkways leading thru the park give a southern feel and the white gazebo in the center of the park is the icing on the cake. The gazebo is the perfect centerpiece making the perfect setting for a wedding, community event or a public town lecture. As impressive as the ambiance is, something else caught my eye... a pay phone. What is it with pay phones that makes so many of us chuckle. Kids in their 20's don't understand what I'm talking about but for older generations these phones were EVERYWHERE (a public antique on display). Before leaving town, we stopped by for one last walk thru the park. I kept hearing branches shake here and there but no wind was blowing, nothing to be seen.... it was odd. I would hear a noise and turn in that direction... nothing... then another noise over there and I would turn to see nothing again. Then I caught a glimpse of these strange birds. It must be a mating ritual because upon careful observation they were everywhere BUT they were only in pairs. Don't know what kind of birds they were but they were impressive to watch. If anyone knows what kind of bird they are, please let me know.

Yelp
Beautiful public park that offers views of Fort Sumter and the Charleston Harbor. As you walk around you will also see gorgeous oak trees, mortars and cannons from the Civil War and a gazebo. If you are around the area stop by for a stroll!
google avatar

Richard F.

Yelp
A beautiful park with statues and a central bandstand. You can walk the Battery for a long way and get magnificent views of the harbor. the day we were there the crowds were enormous. You may have to ride around for a while until a parking spot opens up. The streets are small and narrow and some of the parking places are only 1 hour limit so be sure you look when you park. The Live Oak trees are gorgeous and trapped with Spanish Moss. Take some time to enjoy.
google avatar

Jenn T.

Yelp
Beautiful little park overlooking the water. The old angel oak trees, Victorian mansions, and civil war era history surrounding the area are sure to bring you back in time. There's a beautiful gazebo in the middle of the park, and it's within walking distance of downtown Charleston shops.
google avatar

Shelby B.

Yelp
White point is a first-order, must visit for anyone in Charleston. But actually this park is so nice that locals brave the hordes of tourists to visit it too! During the day there are abundant sight-seers, yoga and hammock-ers, and dogs having a great time, but the real jewel of this park is at night. Walking around the park after dark in the summer is one of the best things about downtown Charleston. It's quiet, cool (well, more cool), great stars, and almost private. Its also a great place to watch the moon rise above Fort Sumter. Definitely check it out at night if you can!
google avatar

Laura H.

Yelp
Best park I ended up at. While it is just a corner park I recommend checking out ! You get that southern charm for sure here! Plus if you're a date devil like me you get to sit on trees You have views of the water and even historical statues!
google avatar

Breanna B.

Yelp
A must-visit if you're in Charleston. We walked down from the King St shops. The park is along the water, which was a beautiful place to walk and get a gorgeous view of the antebellum mansions. The trees and flowers were in bloom on our visit. It's picturesque! A beautiful spot to walk, enjoy a picnic, or relax under the trees. For the history buffs, there are historical monuments and cannon replicas on display going back to the Civil War.
google avatar

Jamie R.

Yelp
This park is beautiful to walk around. Everything was so clean - not a piece of trash anywhere. It was so quiet and peaceful. We had driven by a few times but ended up walking down from our hotel about 7pm after a storm came through. There are a few monuments in the area and also a gazebo as well. You can capture some great photos here too!
google avatar

Evan G.

Yelp
White Point Garden is one of my favorite parks in Charleston. It is a quiet and green space that is close to the water and you can relax, run around, or find a quiet spot to work. It has wifi and plenty of trees and shade to keep cool on a hot day. It is surrounded by history and has many places to sit and chill out. There is plenty of free parking nearby and spots available even on the most busiest days.
google avatar

Jessie C.

Yelp
White Point is a beautiful place to spend some time in the shade. The grounds are well maintained. Certain times of the day your dog can run off leash. This is a great place to get married on the gazebo. I love coming here to watch the sun set. There's also statues and cannons on display for those who like a learn some history.
google avatar

Nate M.

Yelp
Beautiful place for a picnic. We decided to stop here and stretch our legs and take a break in the shade while our enjoying the beautiful homes of Charleston. The old trees provide so much shade and combined with the breeze it's absolutely perfect. There is a lot of history and monuments in the park as well as places to set down. There is also a pay phone in the park so be sure to bring 4x quarters if you really want to blow the kids away.

Yelp
There are so many reasons to like White Point Garden. Situated in the heart of the Battery at the end of the peninsula, this park has it all...beautiful oak trees, great views of the Intracoastal Waterway, plenty of room for running or throwing a Frisbee, benches, and oh so much history. About the only thing you won't find is a restroom. It is a great spot to get away and also to people watch. On any given day you may see cute puppies, people from every corner of the world, or a wedding in the iconic gazebo. This is a great photo opp spot as well. And don't forget to look up in the trees! It doubles as a bird sanctuary. Take the time to wander along the perimeter and check out the cannons, that are actually from the war, and read their history. Enjoy snippets of Charleston storytelling as the horse drawn carriages pass up and down South Battery. Wittiness an amazing sunrise and/or sunset with someone special. Or just take a moment to enjoy a moment alone in the city. If you are local and do not know this spot, you are definitely missing out! If you are visiting Charleston, this is a must visit.
google avatar

Richard R.

Yelp
Charleston is better done by tour where you can learn a little history while visiting the many historical sites. From the reviews and descriptions I read prior to my visit, I imagined a much different picture of this city and especially White Point Gardens. As a visitor, I thought the park was a great spot for reading or walking you dog if you live in the area, but nothing about it would draw me here otherwise. We walked along the seawall (which had an awful smell) and looked out over the Battery, read the signs below the many monuments and took pictures of some of the nearby homes, but that was about it. In contrast, Charleston Waterfront Park and the Waterfront Memorial Park and Visitor Center in Mt. Pleasant were beautiful. We found ourselves revisiting them multiple times during our 6 day stay. The Carriage Tours will help you better appreciate some of the homes, parks and history associated with many of these places.
google avatar

Matt L.

Yelp
Honestly if you're going to walk along the Charleston waterfront, go do it at the waterfront park, where you'll at least get a nice view of the cruise liner parked at the dock, see shipping liners moving their cargo, and be close to the fountain where you can get a nice photo. The white point gardens are... well there's really nothing here. Yes you can see the water, but there's almost nothing else here, except for a few parked cars. In addition, there are almost no lights here at night, so the whole place is incredibly dimly lit compared to many other places in American cities.
google avatar

Hillary V.

Yelp
Firstly, this place is not really a garden. It is an absurdly beautiful park with beautiful vegetation. There's a plethora of trees throughout and beautiful flowers growing around the edges. It is littered with interesting statues and models of cannons. There's a beautiful view on all four sides whether it be the battery or historical homes. My favorite part about the park was it's relaxing nature lent itself naturally to the many hammocks hanging lazily between the trees. This place is worth a visit. I wish we would've picnicked here! It's that beautiful!
google avatar

Terrell L.

Yelp
History is here, we played in this park as children, had pictures made in on the Cannon's that are pointed at Fort Sumter as I see children still playing and families taking those same pictures while learning of our country's history.
google avatar

Alexis B.

Yelp
Beautiful park at the tip of the Charleston peninsula! Gorgeous trees, view of the water, and several monuments! Start in the gardens and then walk around the area and see the beautiful homes and Rainbow Row!
google avatar

Tina R.

Yelp
Beautiful azaleas this time of year. Much planting, tours, horse drawn carriages all busy with the tourists. The grass is trying to come back, many areas are not to be walked on, so the grass can get a start. The trees wonderful to look at, lots of moss hanging from the limbs, odd shapes limbs, roots climbing out looking for water or more dirt. Cannons & balls sitting here & there Many homes are being renovated around the perimeter of the park. A cool day today and much wind, clearly refreshing. A quiet place for the most part to walk, relax and smell the ocean air.
google avatar

Janos J.

Yelp
We stopped here while in Charleston. White Point Gardens has beautiful trees that is surrounded with a bunch of exquisitely multi-million dollar historical homes that have been beautifully restored, though as others have stated, no there is not much to see. My children enjoyed playing around the cannons. Sorry, I rarely write political reviews, but it is what it is. I am not a fan of southern history, so of course I did not like the united daughters of confederacy landmarks posted around the park. There is nothing good about the Confederacy of The American Civil War. Thank you Ulysses S. Grant. There is a huge monument that reads "To the confederate defenders of Charleston," defenders of what? It surely was not freedom that they were defending. While here at the park, walk up besides the ocean towards Waterfront Park for a better view. [Review #426] (12th Review of 2017)

Yelp
Beautiful piece of land at the tip of the Charleston peninsula. The oak trees, statues, monuments, and free parking all lead to a relaxing experience. Each time I go here I discover something different. It's also a great place to see the sunset looking over the Ashley River, and watch the various boats glide by on their way to and from somewhere. You are walking distance from downtown restaurants and shops, or all of the historic side streets to go looking at various homes and lawn decorations.
google avatar

Ray D.

Yelp
White Point Gardens is also known to me by the Battery, it's kind of a garden that is surrounded by a road you drive down at sunset and look at old school million dollar homes, tourists such as myself snapping photos, and a bunch of old cannons posted up. After getting some gas I just kept driving and discovered battery park which is the road on the way to White Point Gardens and noted how beautiful the view and drive was, checking out all the cool historical houses as you drive is pretty elite and definitely a must for any Sunday cruise. You can park anywhere around here if you find a spot and it's close walking distance to a lot of cool historic places. This spot is a must on any tourist destination.
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
Nothing gets more historic than this. From the old cannons to the famous Charleston houses, as seen in numerous paintings. Free parking if you can find a spot too.
