This is a great beach as beaches go: classic, soft, white sand that stretches in a long arc against the gently lapping, bathtub-warm waters of the Gulf of Thailand. Unlike a lot of well-frequented beaches, it’s delightfully free of trash and the water seems relatively clean. It’s quieter (and cheaper) up at the less crowded northern end. As you head south, the number of beachfront restaurants and bars increases. But it never seems to get over-crowded despite the entire beach being open to the public. There’s no renting of chairs, no jet skis or parasailing and, perhaps best of all, no touts selling their wares (until sunset at least). There are, however, fire-juggling dinner shows. It’s not a beach for surfers, alas, as there’s seldom a ripple to disturb the calm. But it’s good for kids, paddle-boarders and sea kayakers. Being such a broad and shallow beach means that at low tide you may have to walk a ways to submerge, whereas at high tide there's almost no beach at all. If you’re an ageist, body shaming elitist who judges beaches by the people on them and only tolerates sunbathing next to lithe young adults, the diversity of humans on this beach will undoubtedly disappoint you. Head south for more homogeneity.
