We visited on a Wednesday afternoon in July. The weather was much cooler (20* Fahrenheit lower) than St. Ignace. We were prepared with sweatshirts and jackets. The water was choppy and cold on the day we visited. The sand on the beach is fine, sugar sand. We did not need shoes on the beach or at the water’s edge. What rocks were washing up on shore were smooth and tumbled. There were several tidal pools on the shore when we arrived. Bring mosquito repellent! They are abundant, aggressive, and only slightly smaller than pheasants. 😂 Parking was plentiful, public restrooms were clean and well maintained, staff we encountered were knowledgeable and kind. Overall, a great place to see.

Visited on 6.21.2025. Aside from getting devoured by nickel sized mosquitoes, I enjoyed the beach views of Lake Superior and the lighthouse. The Edmund Fitzgerald Memorial adds a unique emotional character to the area.

Over the years this place has become more of a tourist trap. It was a beautiful light house that seemed to be trapped in time. Over the years they have added tourist shops and started charging. You can see the beach and lighthouse for free but any of the museums or other things cost. Prices seemed a little steep to me for what it was but that is simply opinion. It is a beautiful area with a Amazing beach and very rich history.

Great museum, lovely grounds, epic beach. The fog rolled in while we were there and you could get a sense of what the ship captains have to navigate thru. Great bathrooms, lovely gift shop and expanded parking area. Will be back!

Was nice. Second trip here but this time the mosquitoes were so thick they would carry you away. So we ran into the gift shop for relief. Lots of cool items for sale and has a museum. Nice overlook of Lake Superior, but again, the mosquitoes were so bad we were outside less than 5 minutes.

An amazing museum and historical landmark that tastefully pays tribute to all those lost on the great inland seas we call the Great Lakes. A wonderful educational must see stop for all ages. This location may seem a bit out of the way but is 1000% percent worth the trip! Plenty of parking and the staff is amazing!

It was the best sunset we had seen on Lake superior. The water temperature was pleasant, and the rocks along the shore were magnificent. We took beautiful pictures and it is the memorial location for the Edmond Fitzgerald. A phenomenal place to sit and enjoy the gentle breeze and sunset. We didn't make it to the museum but have heard wonderful things about it.

We arrived just after the indoor attractions had closed. We hit the beach, the beautiful beach and stayed until after sunset . . Looking for Yoopers . . All three of us were successful in our treasure hunting. And the night sky, absolutely magnificient.magnificent. Sorry, I don't have pictures . .

Yelp
Beautiful spot on Lake Superior. The beach itself is fantastic with lots of interesting rocks and water worn trees to explore. The lighthouse, and the surrounding buildings (museum, gift shop, etc), are a lovely monument to all of the lives lost in shipwrecks in Superior. The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in particular is really fascinating and worth a visit. There are also lots of great trails to hike and wander through around the complex, and some really wonderful bird watching spots to boot. It's worth a stop no matter what amount of time you're working with. If you have a half hour, wander up and down the beach for a bit. Got more time? You can spend a few hours digging into the history and the artifacts in the buildings and the lighthouse. They also offer overnight accommodations in the crew's quarters (but you'll have to call ahead and book in advance for that). History and nature buffs will love this spot, for sure.

Yelp
The most beautiful beach I've been to on Lake Superior. Beautiful location, beautiful sand and water. Not a single piece of trash in site. The lighthouse was absolutely beautiful, and the museum you definitely need to check out to get some awesome facts about Lake Superior, this lighthouse and its importance. Didn't find much of any beach glass but a perfect place to find your smooth stones!

Yelp
Easy to get to. There were bathrooms, lighthouse, shipwreck museum and beach with sand and rocks. We were not interested in the museum or going up in the lighthouse. We walked about for a few minutes and used their bathroom. Wish had spent some time on the beach ... looking for rocks. It's a lovely spot.

Yelp
The first lighthouse in Michigan built in 1847. The most important light on Lake Superior. No longer in service but, in the restoration process by the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society. They have a very nice museum with many artifacts and a lot of history about some of the 200 shipwrecks lying at the bottom of Lake Superior. Admission to the museum includes a video, a tour of the Keepers quarters, and a 1923 Lifeboat Station Surfboat House. They also have information on the Edmund Fitzgerald along with the ships bell. You scan even stay there overnight in the 1923 restored Coast Guard Lifesaving Crew's Quarters. Well worth spending a half day there.
