I’d read a lot of good things about Whitworth Locke and I can see why people rate it highly. The lobby is beautiful, the service was great from the moment we arrived (shout our Freddie for being particularly great), and Winsome restaurant is genuinely fantastic. Those parts really set the tone and made me excited for the stay.
When we got into the apartment though, it just didn’t quite live up to that first impression. The space was generous and the décor was nice in style, but it felt a little tired with marks on the sofa, some chipped paint, and a bedroom that was much darker and dingier than I’d have hoped. The bed and especially the pillows weren’t very comfortable, which made it hard to get a good night’s sleep. Being on the corner that faces Gay Village also meant it was very loud until late at night; luckily I had earplugs, but without them it would have been tough.
For me, the apartment sat in an awkward place between a hotel and an apart-hotel. It didn’t have that crisp, clean, fresh feel you want from a hotel, but it also lacked the cosy, homely comfort of a proper apartment. In the end, it felt like what you were paying for was the size of the space rather than the quality of the stay.
I really wanted to love it, and there are definitely parts of the experience that were great, but overall it just wasn't quite the stay we hoped for.
