The Best Walking Tours in Amsterdam (Updated 2025)

"I found O My Amsterdam Tours to be a provocative introduction to Amsterdam’s drug culture: their 2.5-hour tour explores cannabis history and culture—visiting cannabis grow rooms and the marijuana museum and explaining differences between bad weed and good weed—making it a real trip for the curious (tours from 25 EUR)." - Matthew Kepnes

We were delighted with the “Hello Amsterdam” walking tour on the morning of July 31st. First of all, it was great that the tour was included for free with the I Amsterdam City Card. Secondly, our guide was incredibly charming and had a great sense of humor. We also really appreciated how friendly and open he was, and how much effort he put into making everyone feel comfortable. It was lovely that he made eye contact with each person while talking, helping us all feel included and engaged. The information he shared was both interesting and useful. The only thing we didn’t quite understand was the 10–15 minutes spent talking about the bike story — it felt a bit like a promotional campaign, especially with the suggestion to take photos of the bikes and post them on social media. In our opinion, a brief 2–3 minute mention of the bike person would have been enough. Other than that, it was a wonderful experience. Thank you so much!

Adam was such a great guide. Adding small tidbits of information to his stories, showing us sights not covered by the canal cruise tour and answering questions posed by group members patiently, all added to our wonderful experience. His personal experience and knowledge of places to grab bites of specific choices was a nice bonus. The 2hr walk is not hard at all, for those considering it but shaking at the time length. They give you 2 free self-guided tours for food in De Pijp and de Jordaan are for both foodies and those who're just looking for authentic but eclectic fare. Loved it as part of the Go City package deal and definitely recommend.

Absolutely Fantastic Walking Tour – A Must-Do in Amsterdam! I had such a wonderful experience on this walking tour! Despite Amsterdam often being known for its Red Light District, this tour beautifully showcased the rich history, culture, and charm that the city has to offer beyond the usual stereotypes. Our guide, Adam, was absolutely fantastic—friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging throughout. He brought the city’s stories to life with fascinating insights and fun facts that we would’ve never discovered on our own. This really enhanced the entire experience. By the end of the tour, I fell even more in love with Amsterdam. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city.

The “Welcome Tour” was excellent! The guide had a storyteller approach that provided a fabulous overview of the central part of the city. The guide was warm and engaging. The stops on the tour were interesting. The Iamsterdam card was easy to use and we found great value exploring a wide range of activities throughout the city.

I joined a Who is Amsterdam tour with high hopes, but it didn’t quite meet my expectations. We spent more time standing than walking, which made the experience feel a bit slow and boring. The guide had a storytelling approach that some may enjoy, but I personally found it less engaging. I was also hoping for a local real real guide to share more authentic insights. Overall, it was an interesting concept, but I believe it could be improved.

Very good walking tour that can booked with the Iamsterdam City Card. My guide Bianca was knowledgeable and engaging. Covers the development of Amsterdam, including the good, the bad and the controversial. Overall, the tour gives a fair account of the city.

This was a really unique and a truly personal experience with great insights and stories from our guide, Alexandra and some other lovely people of Amsterdam we met along the way. The walking tour was well paced, with a number of stopping points and refreshments generously included. Above all this is not a 'touristic' type of tour, but clearly coming from a deep love of this unique city and the people who live and work here. So if you are curious to get 'under the skin' of the real Amsterdam, to meet some really wonderful humans and share a great afternoon together this is the tour for you! I can't recommend it highly enough - wonderful!

An Unforgettable Walking Tour with an Outstanding Guide! Her name's Danny and she struck the perfect balance between informative, engaging, and fun. Her deep knowledge of Amsterdam's history, culture, and hidden stories brought the city to life in ways I never expected.
