The Best Walking Tours in Amsterdam (Updated 2025)

"I found O My Amsterdam Tours to be a provocative introduction to Amsterdam’s drug culture: their 2.5-hour tour explores cannabis history and culture—visiting cannabis grow rooms and the marijuana museum and explaining differences between bad weed and good weed—making it a real trip for the curious (tours from 25 EUR)." - Matthew Kepnes

We were delighted with the “Hello Amsterdam” walking tour on the morning of July 31st. First of all, it was great that the tour was included for free with the I Amsterdam City Card. Secondly, our guide was incredibly charming and had a great sense of humor. We also really appreciated how friendly and open he was, and how much effort he put into making everyone feel comfortable. It was lovely that he made eye contact with each person while talking, helping us all feel included and engaged. The information he shared was both interesting and useful. The only thing we didn’t quite understand was the 10–15 minutes spent talking about the bike story — it felt a bit like a promotional campaign, especially with the suggestion to take photos of the bikes and post them on social media. In our opinion, a brief 2–3 minute mention of the bike person would have been enough. Other than that, it was a wonderful experience. Thank you so much!

We had an incredible walking tour of Amsterdam this morning with our guide, Ari. He was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also an amazing storyteller. Ari seamlessly wove together geography, history, and culture, connecting the dots to create a vivid picture of Holland and Amsterdam. We explored fascinating sights, admired beautiful architecture and sculptures, and delved into the intriguing history of the city. On top of that, Ari had a fantastic sense of humor and sprinkled in a few jokes that made the experience even more entertaining and fun. Overall, it was a highly engaging and insightful experience, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with him.

I absolutely loved this walking tour in Amsterdam! Our guide, Chantel, was incredible, friendly, knowledgeable, and full of fascinating stories that brought the city to life. She had such an engaging way of explaining Amsterdam’s history, culture, and hidden gems, and her passion for the city was truly infectious. The route was well-paced and thoughtfully planned, giving us a perfect mix of iconic sights and local secrets you’d never find on your own. Chantel made everyone feel welcome and answered all our questions with patience and enthusiasm. I walked away not only learning so much about Amsterdam but also feeling like I’d experienced its true heart. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city, and if you’re lucky enough to get Chantel as your guide, you’re in for a real treat!

Adam was such a great guide. Adding small tidbits of information to his stories, showing us sights not covered by the canal cruise tour and answering questions posed by group members patiently, all added to our wonderful experience. His personal experience and knowledge of places to grab bites of specific choices was a nice bonus. The 2hr walk is not hard at all, for those considering it but shaking at the time length. They give you 2 free self-guided tours for food in De Pijp and de Jordaan are for both foodies and those who're just looking for authentic but eclectic fare. Loved it as part of the Go City package deal and definitely recommend.

This was a really unique and a truly personal experience with great insights and stories from our guide, Alexandra and some other lovely people of Amsterdam we met along the way. The walking tour was well paced, with a number of stopping points and refreshments generously included. Above all this is not a 'touristic' type of tour, but clearly coming from a deep love of this unique city and the people who live and work here. So if you are curious to get 'under the skin' of the real Amsterdam, to meet some really wonderful humans and share a great afternoon together this is the tour for you! I can't recommend it highly enough - wonderful!

YOU must do this tour! Alexandra is a fantastic host—this experience was so intimate and life changing! We try and do walking tours when we travel but this is in another league of it’s own! Alexandra is completely genuine and really makes you feel special. Not only did we feel like we knew the city of Amsterdam better, we met fellow travelers and created fellowship—sharing stories and recommendations! The local folks we met live incredible and meaningful lives and it was an honor to spend a little time with them. Not only is this experience a way to cultivate profound human connection, we learned so much about the history of this area, the culture and how to navigate this beautiful city safely, and Alexandra provided individualized recommendations based on our interests. Seriously… one of the BEST vacation experiences we’ve ever had. If you do JUST ONE thing in Amsterdam, please do this! You will not be disappointed! Take this experience on the front end of the trip and you will not regret it!

The “Welcome Tour” was excellent! The guide had a storyteller approach that provided a fabulous overview of the central part of the city. The guide was warm and engaging. The stops on the tour were interesting. The Iamsterdam card was easy to use and we found great value exploring a wide range of activities throughout the city.
