Wickens At The Royal Mail Hotel

We had wanted to come to the Royal Mail hotel for some time. We booked the Christmas 2 day experience earlier in the year, we found the website and options a little confusing but the hotel communicated well. The highlight was Wickens restaurant. Service was excellent, food was outstanding and great atmosphere. We chose not to have the matched wines and were accommodated with a very good reasonably priced Chablis. Wickens was the most incredible dining experience of my life. My fiancé booked us in for the chefs table after proposing to me, where we were seated within the kitchen and provided with in depth information about all dishes prepared by each chef. Everything was absolutely delicious and the level of service we received was phenomenal. I’m not one who tends to order dessert, but the dessert we received was the best I have ever eaten in my life. I still think about it. Because of this, Wickens will always hold a special place in my heart. Executive Chef Robin Wickens was also very sweet and caring after I was stung by a bee during the kitchen garden tour (which was also so wonderful! Make sure you do this if visiting). Dining at Wickens is an incredible experience and I cannot recommend it more.

It was an unforgettable fine dining experience at Wickens. Every dish was presented like a piece of art, and the flavours were absolutely perfect. We will definitely come back someday.

Just sensational! Could not rate this more highly. It was an absolute stand out fine dining experience and worth every dollar. Extensive wine list, impeccable service and incredible flavour combinations with presentation so perfect. Loved my table by the kitchen and the view of Mount Sturgeon was awesome as the sun went down. Quite daunted by the fact it was my first time dining solo, but it was too good an opportunity to skip as I passed through Dunkeld and all the staff made it very pleasant for me. Disappointed the garden tour got cancelled, but these things happen. Highly recommend putting Wickens on your bucket list!

Oh. My. Lord. If I died today, I would die happy, knowing I have experienced the most amazing meal I will probably have in my life. First, we were met in the reception, offered a drink and made to feel welcome. Then we were shown to our table in the quietest kitchen I have ever been in. I sat there with my mouth agape most of the time, watching the team of incredible professionals do their thing. Even when some plates fell to the ground, there was no fuss. Just a quiet clean up and in with business. The attention to detail was simply amazing and the different flavours in the food were simply stunning. Pickled silvan berries, popcorn, pumpkin that tasted like chocolate, the duck that was SO delicious. There is some sort of sorcery in this kitchen and I want to know what it is! The young pastry chef who did bread and dessert is to be commended for his passion and skill. The gentleman who brought us our ‘vegetables’ at the end of the evening was charming. And Robin, your professionalism, calmness, attention to detail and the manner in which you communicate with your team is not only good to watch, it is amazing just to know that you are treating your team well. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and left with VERY full bellies, and the memory of a meal that will not be forgotten for a very long time. Thank you to the whole team, from the lovely ladies washing the dishes, who worked so hard all night, to the team in the kitchen and the wait staff, all of whom were professional and knowledgeable. We will return.

Absolutely amazing degustation dinner! A bucket list item. Do NOT stay here and pass up the chance to be wowed by the food and the super extensive wine list. An absolute culinary masterpiece! Big shout out to Leo and Madison for their wonderful and impeccable service. And, of course, the chefs that put it all together. Hats off..... I truly had a most wonderful evening and I would rate the whole experience as one of the top 3 meals I have had worldwide. All this with great views over the Grampians. What is there not to like? I will be back.

What a special experience. Firstly, the wait staff on the 29th Nov were absolutely lovely and very attentive. The canapés were just exquisite and a very strong start. So clever and tasty. Every dish was beautiful. The lamb was the best lamb my husband had ever had. I was so impressed too with the non alcoholic pairing - it made me feel like I wasn’t missing out on the experience. The dessert was the only thing I found a bit too sweet but I’m not a sweet tooth by nature. Overall, you can tell a lot of love and thought has gone into this dining experience right down to the beautiful seeds from their garden you get to take home. Would highly highly recommend. The most exquisite fine dining experience ever. Everything was just perfect. Every dish didn’t just look like art but tasted like heaven. The explosion of different flavors and textures is unforgettable. The service was top notch, attention to every detail. Thank you for this amazing experience.
