Wicklow Historic Gaol

Fantastic goal. Def recommend the VR tour, lovely start being locked in a cell. Take all the time you need to look around & see & read everything.....you may be" joined" by inmates, we were.

Well worth a visit..Untainted and beautifully produced. Fair play to Wicklow county council..Delighted I went there. Two hours is plenty. There isa wee shop with nice NON PUSHY sales people. Also FREE parking fir 3 hours. Very handy if you want to walk down to the sea shore and old black castle ruins.

It was good. But not brilliant. QR codes didn’t work. Too many written info boards. It would have been superb with audio guide. Enjoyed it though.

Well worth the visit, the displays are set in number order, so easy to navigate round and not to miss anything the staff were amazing and very friendly, there were toilets and plenty of seating unfortunately the day we went the restaurant wasn't open

Great place with a lot of history. Plenty of interactive rooms. Would recommend!

A good amount of history and stories about the jail. I got busy fast and it was hard to navigate through people. Unfortunately some rooms had no information. Overall ok experience for an hour walk around the museum. Nice, chatty and helpful staff.

A wonderful place, a wonderful museum and prison with a difficult and dark history, but I definitely recommend a visit.

Great place to visit, interesting and entertaining, VR experience definitely worth the extra, shame cafe was closed, bit chilly so take a coat.

Cool museum, super informative and interactive. Most definitely definitely haunted tho, I don't even believe in ghosts but this place obv had so much suffering that the people left the feeling behind.

Ive been in planning a trip to Wicklow Gaol for years and finally decided to get my act together and go yesterday. The tour is a self guided audio tour with plenty to see and plenty to read as you move around. There are interactive exhibits within the cells so don't be afraid to go in and have a poke around. As one of Ireland's "most haunted " places, there are parts that might scare little ones such as the basement area but as its self guided you can move on easily. It's good value for money too as its only 5.90 and you get a ticket for the car park with your admission. This is an important thing to note as I was on my way to the pay and display when I saw this on the door. There is a small coffee shop within the gaol which serves hot and cold food and you get a 10% discount if you keep your Gaol receipt. We didn't visit it while we were there, preferring to head back to Avoca on the road home to Dublin for some posh food!

Extremely interesting tour of the histor of the town jail including interactive talks from the jailor and the matron. Unfortunately the kids dragged us away before we could fully explore the exhibits in each of the cells or the recreation of the transportation ship upstairs. If we had more time and kids over the age of 6 this would have been a great visit. We will try again in the future
