Widowmaker Trail Rides

Jeff took me and my bridesmaids out for a pre-wedding ride. We had so much fun! The views were amazing , the horses were so sweet, and jeff was so knowledgeable in the nature surrounds. He took us on a 2 hr ride around grapevine lake. I can’t wait to go on more tours with him , it was truly spectacular.

We came here for my mom’s birthday and she is a world champion that retired. It was the best day and so much fun! David was amazing and allowed my mom to talk his ear off about horses and kids! We will definitely be back! Shotgun was so sweet! We also had Cisco, Taco, Ringo, and Domino as our leader. This was very special to my mom and the scenery was so beautiful. Thank you David for allowing my mom to talk your ear off. Thank you for also making time to let us ride! We will see you again!

I recently had an incredible experience with David the Horse Ranger, and I can't recommend it highly enough! The horses were absolutely fantastic—clearly well-trained and in great spirits, they were a joy to ride. Each horse had its own unique personality, making the experience even more enjoyable. My husband brought me here today for my birthday and I loved the experience. The owner, David, is exceptional with his service and his instructions. The horses are beautiful and well tamed. I have not ridden a horse in 20+ years and I did well. The trail is beautiful as well. Highly recommend.

We were 5 adults with no experience riding horses at all. David made everything so easy and fun. Gave us the basics on how to ride a horse and he made sure we were all feeling comfortable with our horses. The area is gorgeous. Excellent experience from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. David and his horses were all perfect.

Went here for a birthday weekend celebration and glad we did. David was our guide and he was amazing. His detailed orientation made us feel like we actually knew what we were doing. He makes sure you feel comfortable controlling your horse & understanding the horses. Was a very nice & scenic trail, lots of trees, greenery & the lake was beautiful. The horses were also amazing and so well trained! I had freckles who followed all the commands given and when we did trail behind freckles knew exactly where to go and freckles even got to close the gate behind everyone. Honestly a great experience and highly recommend to anyone looking for a trail ride

My family and I had a wonderful time with David and his horses. We rode different beautiful trails and terrains, the scenery was awesome, and David was a wonderful and patient, but through instructor.

Kambry will call you later and get your cc# for the reservation.thanks, Jeff NO ONE EVER CALLED FOR CREDIT CARD INFO. SATURDAY EVENING at 7pm less than 24 hours before the ride I get this message Hey Larry. There was a miscommunication between myself and Jeff. The ride tomorrow is unfortunately fully booked. My name is Kambry with Widowmaker Trail Rides. The lady who usually sets people up for rides is out so things are all out of whack. I RESPONDED That is unacceptable. I have a guest coming in from out of town. So you need to do something. Something earlier or something. I planned this and you gave me confirmation. Kambry then said Who gave you confirmation? Jeff said I'm not sure but he will call you shortly and you can work that out. NO ONE CALLED. SO AT 9:34 I said It's 9:30 I haven't heard from anyone. That's not a good look Jeff responded This ride isn't going to work. Do whatever it was that you were planning to do tomorrow before you called yesterday last minute to try and schedule a ride with us this weekend. I read your text with Kambry as well as your text above and it would not be a good fit. So I guess people that call last minute get lies. I responded I will definitely include this in my yelp review. It's obvious you don't keep your word. Pitiful I had someone coming in town for this ride. DO NOT USE THEM. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

Old man can not drive to safe his life, will bout clip your truck every chance he gets with his dang horse trailer, and for a bonus he will get mad and curse you out in his cab because he can't drive

Beautiful wooded trails along Lake Grapevine shores. All the horses are good rides and handle easy enough for beginners. David is great at explaining all the things you need to know for a fun safe ride. I highly recommend his horses and his guided trail rides !!

One of the best horse back riding trails I've ever been on! David was so informational and briefed us on exactly how to communicate with the horses. We trust David immensely, as he's truly a professional in the field. He was so charming and funny! Our friend group had a really good time. The route is also scenic with stunning lake views. David was so hospitable and took great care of us. Highly recommend!

David took our Singaporean Analytics team comprised of people from China, the Philippines, Pakistan, India, the Bahamas, Australia, Italy and more on their first trail ride ever! His short tutorial to get them started explained the mind of a horse and how to handle them - best I've ever heard. They felt so comfortable and in control right away and had BEST TIME EVER on a beautiful trail ride through the untouched woods of Southlake by Lake Grapevine. He also took great pictures along the trail ride and air dropped them quickly with the group, so they could stay in the moment and not worry about cameras. We had a large crowd so while he took a few riding, the others were with Lyin' Pete and his old west guns, who taught them how to shoot a Winchester rifle, a Colt 45 and 2 other old west guns with rubber bullets. Most had never held a gun and they were blown away by the experience! HIGHLY RECOMMEND David, the perfect Cowboy Trail Boss for a team event!!!

FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE! This ride is good for the experienced and the non-experienced. David, the owner, is SUPER accommodating and will make sure you are comfortable while on the 2 hour trail ride. I went with a group of friends during our weekend in Dallas and all of us were pleased. David has a ton of great analogies that will really help you conceptualize the art of talking in the horse's language. The trail was absolutely beautiful and everything I envision for my future home in the country. The trail took us to a gorgeous lake just before the sun set for some great photo ops. By the end of it, all of us were pretty sore but felt like we definitely got our money's worth and were EXHAUSTED hahah. We definitely took a nap before going out that Saturday night. I highly recommend this place and if you are wanting to ride some horses on a nice trail - go to Widowmaker Trail Rides!

Wow y'all ! Such an amazing experience. The horses are beautiful, well loved and cared for. An amazing ride the gentleman took pictures of us the whole time and airdropped them to us after the ride he took great pictures which you're not able to take because you're trying to make sure that you're doing what you're supposed to do on the horse. We were able to take the horses through a creek over a bridge a little bit into lake grapevine. Saw several deer. Was just an amazing experience. Decided to surprise my boyfriend on his birthday with a morning ride and it was such a great experience! We went on a 2 hour scenic trail ride with our trail guide, David. David was very patient and informative in showing us the proper way in how to guide and ride our horses. It took us one hour to the lake and another hour back. On our way back, we got to gallop a little bit. We got some great pictures of our ride and David was sweet to take our picture at the lake. Overall, it was an amazing adventure!

Had the best time with family visiting from out of town. A perfect daytime bonding activity and an overall incredible experience.

I had the best time. My horse, Scout, was very responsive and lovely. The owner also remembered all our names too which I always enjoy as a customer. On the way to the lake, we saw a coyote and a deer that just added to the beautiful ride. I'd definitely ride with them again and recommend them to anyone.

There are not enough stars to give David and his business justice. While in Texas for work my work friends and I were on a crusade to do all things Texas. When i originally contacted David he was completely booked for the time we had available. After chatting a bit David offered to give us a call if he had cancellations. A day or so later David indeed called and we scheduled our ride. Of the four people in my group only two of us had ever been on a horse. Davids patience with us and ability to explain how to communicate with the horses was AMAZING. Our Saturday ride was by far our favorite Texas experience.. David lead 6 total people through the trails and maintained a great level of communication with all of us throughout the ride. When I return for future trips I will absolutely visit David and his horses again.

David is the absolute best. My wife is an accomplished rider but neither of have ridden in a few years. David's quick instruction, my wife said was by far the absolute best 'way to explain riding to a new rider or someone that has been riding forever' I was on Dutch, and my wife was on Taco. Dutch was an big teddy bear. Super sweet. Taco was a little feisty at the start but my wife got him figured out and David even complimented her on 'yea.. you know what your doing' We were with another couple who had NEVER ridden before and they had a fantastic time. Great 2 hour ride through trails that were soft sand and a few ups and downs. Through a creek and into Grapevine lake. Round about and back again. After the ride we hopped off our horses and Dutch wanted some good scratches. I told David I was taking him home with me. Thanks David for taking us on a great ride.

I throughly enjoyed my ride today! David was so helpful and very animated. He made the ride easy. It was so peaceful and just what I needed to disconnect a bit and re-set! My horse was Ringo :)

Two friends and I went over to Widowmaker Trail Rides this past week and we had the most amazing time! David was patient and very knowledgeable.. guided us the entire time and made us feel very comfortable being on and around the horses. I went on the 2hour trail ride with my husband today and we had so much fun! It's my first time riding so I was nervous at first but everything went well.

Jeff and Will are amazing! So are all of the horses. Will be back in a heart beat, lovely trail to the lake and get to walk through little bits of water & the lake. The horses were amazing!! 5 stars doesn't do this page justice.

Awesome experience!!! I went for my birthday and it was a magical ride with an amazing scenery. My husband and I loved it so much that we want to go back. The horses are very well trained, it was my first time riding a horse on my own and it was like driving a car. A fun and awesome experience

Such a great first time experience! David was great and practiced social distancing due to corona. He answered any questions you have in mind and is extremely patient when teaching you how to ride the horse. Highly recommend. We drove 40 minutes to get there but it was well worth it!

Awesome first timer ride. Was two of us plus another two person that went with us. Small group allows you to get more attention if needed from the instructor when it comes to riding. Instructor very knowledgeable and patient for first timer as well. Horses very friendly and trail ride was worth it for the two hours we were on it. Got to do some riding and trolling as well in between the ups and downs of the mini creeks. We were allow to take pictures as we were riding since the horses were doing most of the steering which helped if you never been on a horse.

Worth every penny! What a great experience from start to finish! Visiting Dallas from Las Vegas with my 12 year old. It was her first time riding and David couldn't have been more patient, the perfect guide. It was super fun and two hours is just the right amount of time. Thank you so much!

My fiancé and I booked a last minute trail ride today and our experience was phenomenal! David, our trail guide, was awesome! We did a 2 hour trail ride to Grapevine Lake, through winding forest trails and red clay fields. The scenery was beautiful, the horses were fantastic and our guide's humor made the experience that much more fun!

2 hours of pure ecstasy! Horses are super friendly. David, the owner is a gentleman that knows how to treat his horses and make people comfortable around the animals. I've done horseback riding before but this one is the best one so far.. the view, the horses, 2 hours for $90! If you in the Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington area and you looking for something fun to do try this.

This was a really fun and beautiful ride. The horses were gorgeous and obviously well loved and cared for. I am an intermediate rider and o had a good time! Definitely recommend.

David was a great instructor and made us feel so comfortable while on our ride. His hospitality and patience definitely made the whole experience even better! His horses are beautiful, very well trained and easy to control. David takes you on trail ride with beautiful scenery and even lets you ride the horses into the lake (and helps you take the perfect photos which was my fav!) I'd definitely use him again for my next horseback ride!

I scheduled a date to come to this trail over the phone and it was a pleasant experience. David was there to greet us and helped us get familiar with the horses (it was our first time riding). My husband and I just had our very first horse ride today and we had an excellent time! David lead us through the trail and was patient in helping us learn how to ride. Great photo opportunities at the lake. We will definitely be back! Thank you so much for everything, y'all were very hospitable.

This was such a fun experience. My fiancé and I loved meeting David and his beautiful horses. David showed us how to properly control the horse and he even taught us how to trot with the horse. My horse Shiner was an experienced horse and was easy to handle. We definitely recommend this to anyone looking to ride on a nice trail with trained horses.

We had such an amazing time doing horseback riding with David! My husband came out of town from NY and was getting so bored in Texas, so we planned this fun activity and he was so happy. He had his mini Texan moment. And I as well got a nice adventure out of this. David took us on a nice trail and already rescheduled us earlier in the morning to avoid the afternoon heat advisory. He also made sure we had the right saddle and it was the right level for us. We loved it and hope to do this soon again!

David was great and we really enjoyed the horseback ride!! We had family visiting and thought this would be a great activity, especially since one of the visiting family members works with and loves horses. Everyone had a great time, David was very informative and the instructions and steps he went through prior to commencing the trail ride, was very thorough. We also went to the Ft Worth Stockyards and there was a trail riding business there - nothing compared to what David provided. We would definitely book with him again with local friends and friends and family from out of town. Thank you David!!

My sister & I rode today with David. He was instructive & fun to ride with! I rode Shiner while Dee rode Pete, both gentle & well-trained. As a horse owner I love to see well tended horses. David obviously loves his horses because of the care they receive. This was a nice, scenic way to experience seasonal wildflowers, birds, & a terrain change which I find helpful to being a rounded rider. Thank you David - & your gentle horses

Great Texas Horse Trail ~ But bring the "Deep Woods Off" with you

Best place to ride horses in the Dallas area. We brought five friends from California and they couldn't stop smiling because the ride was so spectacular!! David first went over basic horse handling techniques and then how to stay in control. He made sure each girl was focused and paying attention since safely was important! That was so appreciated. The ride included trail rides under shady trees and a stop at a lake. The horses were so well trained it made it easy for the riders, even those with no experience. Such a great adventure!! Bring all of your visitors and yourself for a memorable experience!

Perfect day of riding with David. He answered all of our questions, and made us feel completely comfortable during the ride. Mind you, I've always been uncomfortable around horses, since horse camp as a child. However, my horse was amazing/compliant (Shiner), and I loved the trail and all of the scenery. All in all it was a great day of riding with friends and family.

My first time horseback riding & I had so much fun! The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable. The horses were well behaved and well taken care of. The trail is scenic with a nice view of the lake. I love that we got to cross some small rivers along the way too. It was a great time!

Don't let the name scare you. The healthy, happy horses don't seem to have a vendetta against the riders. This is a hidden gem here in the Metroplex and it's just down the road from DFW Airport and Grapevine. The guide is attentive (thank you Dave) and the guide takes into consideration the experience level of the riders. As it turned out, the day my 20 year old cousin from Switzerland rode she was the only rider (another rider had canceled earlier in the day due to illness) so she rode alone with the trail guide through a nature preserve and then down to the lake and back. A choice of helmets (recommended but optional) was available for no charge. Boots are not mandatory. The trail is both through shady woods and in full sun, so dress accordingly. Sunblock and bug repellant recommended. The cost is reasonable ($80 for a two-hour ride and I gave a $20 tip). This place doesn't have that touristy "in it for the money" vibe you can get at many more visible locations in Fort Worth. The people running seem to like what they do and they want the riders to have a pleasant time.

We had an awesome time on our ride with David. His horses were great. We walked, trotted and got to gallop a number of times. David was also great company. We chatted quite a bit. His area is perfect for a nice two hour ride. We've done a number of trail rides in both the US and Canada and this one was one of the best! Highly recommended.

I recv'd the trail ride as a gift for my bday. I hadn't ridden a horse since I was little, so I was a little concerned that I wouldn't be that good of a customer. Nonetheless, David was an excellent teacher and tour guide! I felt totally at ease and enjoyed the ride!

I can't recommend David enough. I've been riding with him 3 times. Every time I have brought a newer rider with me. He is patient, explains everything, and makes sure they are comfortable and enjoying the ride. I literally fly down from Boston to ride with him. You won't be disappointed!!!

Had a great time. David, the owner, was very nice. He offered us drinks and even took pictures of us at no extra charge. I loved the fact that it was a small family owned business as he was there every step of the way. This was my first experience riding a horse and it was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had! I was very nervous at first but our guide, Jeff, made sure I was accommodated and comfortable before we set off on our trail. Helmets are optional and clothing attire is well expressed in website FAQ's so be sure to check that out before you go. The trail itself was breathtaking. A little hidden gem of Texan countryside and wildlife which was so relaxing to go through. After about an hour, I eased up and began feeling very confident with my horse, Pistol, who was very obedient and sweet. The trail is mostly walked, but we did cross a creek and went up a hill which required the horse to trot up rather quickly. It was very exhilarating to have those little changes in the trail which made it feel more like we were on an adventure than on a paved out trail. I would love to do this again! Highly recommend to anyone from a first-timer like I was or anyone looking to spend some quality time with the family!

I highly recommend Widowmaker Trail Rides if you're in the area! Dave was very friendly and accommodating when we asked to reschedule our ride time with just a couple days notice. My husband and I have been on horses before, but Many years ago, and we both felt very comfortable on the horses and with the instruction we received. I'm so glad we made this memory together!
