Todd Selby’s Guide to Portland, Oregon | Vogue

"Artist Todd Selby’s late 90s experience in Portland fully reflects the hippie-utopia the Northwestern city once was: he worked on a vegan baking zine, biked around town, and ended up at a Sleater-Kinney concert. He recounts these moments in the artist statement for his new multimedia show, “Portland I Love You,” currently up at Wieden+Kennedy (the rebellious ad agency behind countless Nike campaigns and the Old Spice Guy)." - Ella Riley-Adams

It's not easy to get into the inner bowels of the building (unless you have a pal who works there), but anybody can walk into the gallery on the street level and check out the rotating art shows. Also, the giant plywood beaver on display is pretty cool and makes for a fun photo op. And there's a cool display of fun/quirky photos of many W+K employees on the wall behind the stairs.

Firstly the space acquired is perfect for the marketing minds and artistic displays that are hosted. I love the many web development pages I've found created by staff and community contributions made by this company. Good things to come, I'm sure.

As an employer, they are very nice to work for. Benefits are good and the atmosphere is laid back. As a company, their ads are hilarious :D The lower atrium is open to everyone for themed art exhibits so stop by if you are nearby! A secret quarter candy machine is by the elevators in the far wall of the room.

I toured the Widen Kennedy space w my undergrad postmodern art course, the prof was tight with them, and it is hands down the coolest creative office space I have ever seen. Idk if anyone can get the kind of tour I did... But do your self a favor and try.

Yelp
I mean - c'mon.. who hasnt heard of Wieden + Kennedy? Nike has set standards for international advertising and WK is the powerhouse that created all Nike ads since they were born at the University of Oregon campus. W+K has offices in London, NY, Amsterdam and Tokyo. All Honda, ESPN and MIller ads are made in the Portland headquarters. The agency is known for its creativity and passion for innovation. Ad Age ranked W+K as the world's best agency for almost 15 years in a row. Not just advertising, but talk about architecture. The W+K team turned a huge warehouse building in NW Portland from an ice-storage to the coolest agency buildings ever. Check out the photos. The agency has a mandatory happy hour and dj's spinning sweet melodies starting Friday 4pm. What a kickass place to work!

Yelp
I like this place. There is a giant wooden beaver in the lobby. And a bird's nest that you can sit in on the upper floor while you have your deeply creative thoughts about how to encourage more people to use Old Spice on their unmentionables. They also throw a very nice party and everyone there, in spite of the extremely fancy, way fancier than you, setting is really nice and welcoming. They also make very amusing and sometimes provocative commercials. I suppose if there's a shame in all of it, it's that so much awesome creative energy, incredible design, significant storytelling and skillful, graceful work ends up in a stick of deodorant. On the other hand, it's not much fun to smell other people's armpits. So as far as missions go, that's not a bad one. Hooray for advertising. Hooray.

Yelp
I ordered a hand made card from W+K Studio Goodness, and I could not be happier. The attention to detail & products used in making the card were of upmost quality. Secondly there was a shipping snafu and W+K were more than happy so fix my issue and get the card to me on time for Valentine's Day!! Awesome company, although I believe the design studio is an offshoot of the Wieden & Kennedy mother company. Great Job at the studio, I hope they are around for a long time. Businesses with this level of integrity make the world a better place.
