Wiener Rathauskeller

I've tried Tafelspitz and it was really delicious. The staff was really polite and kind. The restaurant designed nice and traditionally from the inside, and it's located under the City Hall (which is pretty cool). Köszönjük a vendéglátást! (from Hungary)

Rathauskeller left a great impression on me. The atmosphere was pleasant, the food hit the spot, but the real charm of the place comes from the people who work there. Thomas and Omar bring an energy that makes every guest feel valued and comfortable.

The food was good, roast was crazy tender. Very bad drink selection - one beer, some wine and sodas. The show was good, but with so many people in a room and some there only to have a conversation, it ruins it a bit. The waiter came and apparently counted by hand and gave us the amount - we paid including the tip. We asked for the receipt and when we got it, it was 5 euro cheaper than he had counted - but he kept the tip, that's bad, so get a receipt before paying.

Place is awesome, the food tastes good, but the service is horror. Lot of junior waiters, that are not yet able to serve or proper remove the dish without spitting food allover, including on customers. I asked for a toothpick and the waiter brought me literally 1 piece..

A truly memorable evening in Vienna. The vaulted halls, live classical music, and elegant dinner created a wonderful blend of culture and comfort. The performance of "The Blue Danube" was especially moving — I found myself smiling throughout. Even with a young child by my side, the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. We were all immersed in the charm of this music-filled city.

Do not go. If you’re considering this place for New Year’s Eve, it will be the worst choice you can make. We had a horrible experience for a 150€ menu: three dishes consisting of a cold soup, a dry schnitzel, and a tiny soufflé. The service was absolutely terrible, and the organization was chaotic—you’re forced to wait until everyone in the room finishes their schnitzel before getting dessert. We waited 1 hour and 30 minutes for dessert, having to ask multiple times, with no guarantee it wouldn’t be even longer. The unpleasant atmosphere was just the cherry on top.

The food was quite good. the fried salmon are a bit salt but still edible but the services are really bad.. rude server, sound of cutleries falling, plates falling to the floor and even how they pouring wines and giving cutleries are not standard.. services need to be improve

The Wiener Rathauskeller in Vienna's beautiful city hall is somewhat hard to write a fair review about. Why is that? Well on one hand it has become very much a tourist restaurant and its impressive vaulted Knight's Hall is usually filled with tour bus groups. But here's the catch. There is a smaller space known as Salon Ziehrer which is also beautiful and this serves up an a la carte menu for both visitors and locals alike. In a food capital like Vienna, eyes can roll if you say you are going to the Wiener Rathauskeller to eat ("that tourist place?") ... but they shouldn't as the Salon Ziehrer serves up some excellent dishes in an iold world ambience. Okay now it's November in Vienna and if November is not the best time to be a turkey in the USA, it is a terrible span to be a goose in Austria. November is 'Ganslessen' (goose-eating) time in Austria centered around the Feast of St. Martin and its Martinigansl dinner. But Austrians eat goose throughout the month and its good to try various dishes. At the Rathauskeller a totally delicious (and huge portion) of goose ragout was being offered over buckwheat noodles accompanied by bok choi. Def tasty! A starter of smoked duck breast in Cumberland sauce was equally awesome. A nice bread assortment and a Viennese Zweigelt wine from Cobenzl completed the meal. Service was friendly and efficient. I'm glad I didn't completely leave the atmospheric Rathauskeller for the tourists!

Does not operate on Sunday and Holidays! Unique place in the base of Vienna city hall! Give it a try!

Amazing food for our dinner on October 25th. Thr restaurant is located at Rathhuse with a beautiful intinterior. We ordered fried steak with mushroom sauce and Scottish egg. Both dishes and Service are great. Will come back next trip.

After visiting the Christmas Market, we had lunch at the Ratskeller. Descending the carpet covered marble stairwell, reveals another world. Though the restaurant has a lot of tour groups, the wait staff easily accommodated our request for just a table for two. The menu given was all in German; but, upon request, an English menu was provided. The "fried chicken" was excellent with a light batter; the Viennese roast was traditional, but is an acquired taste and probably not for a tourist who expects plain food or still has jet lag with stomach issues. All and all, a pleasant meal, in a warm location with immaculate WCs. We would return again for the fried chicken.

This was a great experience. The Rathauskeller (why isn't it a Rathskeller? Mystery.) was difficult to find and a little pricier than the usually tourist's places, but worth the trouble. Elegant, classy. I confess we were underdressed but the staff acted as if we were in tie and tails. In fact, the staff was impeccable. The waiter was very Italian and the perfect picture of hospitality. And very funny. The food was as elegant as the decor and impeccably prepared. I started with a beef soup that was thick and delicious. Then I had the Zwiebel Rostbraten, a roast beef with fried onions and roast potatoes. It was as you might expect from an old world kitchen, roasted perfectly. We finished with an assortment of desserts that were as tasty as they were gorgeous. When you are in Vienna, skip the tourist restaurants and visit the old-school Rathuaskeller and pretend you are royalty.

The Wiener Rathauskeller is the famous Vienna City Hall restaurant known for being located in the basement of the Vienna City Hall right below the official city hall meeting rooms. In this medieval ambience right in Vienna's city center you easily feel like a knight or a dame. By the way in the summertime on the square above (Rathausplatz) there is a huge Vienna Film Festival taking place every night and day over two months. Back to the Wiener Rathauskeller...I enjoyed a great vegetarian meal of Feta balls on lamb's lettuce, vegetables and fruits. The prices are in the upper segment but you get much ambience for your money in this medieval gothic environment of the Vienna City Hall. With Love! Dr. Dr. Immanuel Fruhmann

We were expecting to be in the room shown In other reviewers' photos but that is reserved for groups. Our small room, however, was very dramatic with black and gold decor (see pics), linen tablecloths and napkins. Head Waiter, Max Winter made our evening - a charming man who soon found out I knew more Italian than German! He speaks good English too. More importantly though, the food was excellent. My friend had beef schnitzel which he enjoyed while I had melt in your mouth local char fish (like trout) with absolutely no bones. There was just one fillet but it was dressed with lemon slices and plenty of flaked almonds plus hot shredded vegetables and fried potato wedges. This was accompanied by a lovely white wine which Max recommended. Finally, we shared a local dish of jam filled pancakes and ice cream. It's a shame we don't have time for a return visit.

We went to Rathauskeller as a group during our business trip to Wien. The atmosphere is nice and authentic. But unfortunately I won't be able to write anything about the food as the awful waitress refused to serve us upon learning that we are from Turkey. I can't believe that this kind of fascism is still alive! As a group of 8 which consists of musicians and journalists we felt awful, heartbroken.

Service was ridiculously slow, food was only okay, and prices were high. It was not very busy when we arrived, yet it still took over 10 minutes to get a menu. Avoid Wiener Rathauskellar.

We had dinner on a saturday evening and the dish we had was good but 2 members of our party had chateaubriand and this was a very small portion. Not enough for 2 male adults.
