The location, vibe and food was amazing experience. While traveling through Oregon, decided to make a stop at this bistro based on Google reviews rating. And the place did not disappoint. Enjoyed the food and cheesecake outside. Very tasty food. Cheese cake dessert was super yummy. Worth making a stop at this bistro.

Your experience might vary but ours was horrendous. Please read this through before going to this place. For food, we got the steak salad, Spicy Chicken Club sandwich and a bowl of roasted pepper tomato orzo soup. The steak salad was poor. For one, they did not give us enough dressing so we had to ask for more. The steak was incredibly tough and bland, very unpleasant. Adding insult to injury, the chic peas just tasted like cold mush and it was disgusting. And the bread served was cold and dry. That tomato orzo dish was by far the worst part of the meal. The entire dish just tasted like tomato paste plus a SPRINKLE of orzo. There was not a hint of pepper. Worse, it can't even be called a soup because the texture was slightly chunk. When we gave feedback to the waiter, she said and I quote "it's pretty much a paste". A PASTE?! That's not soup...it was like marinara sauce from a can. Bread served was cold and dry like the ones from the salad. If the food wasn't bad enough, we literally waited for 30 minutes after ordering. I really hoped food was going to be worth the wait but was severely disappointed. Waiters were friendly but inattentive. After serving they just stood in a corner and chatted with each other instead of checking if tables needed attention. More to complain, the prices are really high at this place. COMPLETELY NOT WORTH THE PRICE. The only thing acceptable at this restaurant was the spicy chicken club sandwich which was actually tasty, though the chips that came with it tasted pretty much just like oil. I was going to give a 2 star because of the sandwich but everything else sucked. This restaurant fails in the three fundamentals of a restaurant: food quality, service and value. Based on the reviews, other dishes may have been good. And service may have been decent on other days. But our experience was really bad. Just don't get that steak salad and orzo soup to save yourself some money and grief.

Fantastic AAA+++ after doing laps downtown during the 10th anniversary of Make Music day I worked up a craving for something fresh and delicious. I searched for something different and decided to stumble into The Wild Pearl. I was warmly greeted and attended to by the lovely Riley at the bar who informed me of the specials and got a hot chocolate started for me. The restaurant was super busy but the staff was handling it super well and all seemed happy and frazzled by it all. I ordered the small caesar salad and I added salmon. It was delicious and came with some baguette and butter and totally hit the spot! Everything was wonderful, the hot chocolate was super yummy and creamy and I got a triple chocolate cake to go as I was full. I'm sitting here wondering why it took me so long to come back in here, it's been about 20 years! It's always fairly busy when I walk by but I will definitely make an effort to come back again soon, there is a reason they have been around for so long. Y'all have a fantastic hard working team, I'll be back again soon, thank you Riley you are a rockstar and they are so lucky to have you! 💚 ☘️ 🌈

Server was great. Food was really good. It is close quarters. Not much room. **One bad thing.. a waiter went to deliver another table food right next to us. There are curtains on both sides of entrance. So as he was headed to the table, he raised his arm as he had 2 dishes. One in his arm and a good size plate in his hand. He took that full arm/hand and went right over my friends head. All I thought of was, of something had gone wrong. Either they need to move the curtain or figure another way.

Cute little lunch place with great sandwiches and salads plus tasty fries. Loved the decor with high metal ceilings and bar.

Coconut curry butternut squash soup... First time visiting this charming place. Great atmosphere & vibe all around including the soup. Will definitely be visiting a lot more often now I've been here! 😁

Google
Wow! This place is a gem!!! The food was amazing! So well prepared, fresh, and full of flavor! There was seating both indoor and outdoor. I highly recommend the Brie appetizer and the Cecelia bowl.

Google
For a good time order the pho and Vietnamese iced tea (be patient with the staff this takes a while to make) and the cheesecake for dessert.

Yelp
This place was highly rated, and now I see why. We went on a Saturday, as one does, and went at about 12:30 p.m. The place was packed, which wasn't surprising, but there were just the two of us, so that worked out, and we were seated quickly. We ordered pretty quickly as well. There were many things to choose from, but we stuck with delicious sandwiches. They came with chips, which I believe are house-made. They were quick to refill our sodas there and we never wanted anything, despite the busyness of the place. They do catering here as well. It would be great to have something catered by them. I will come back here and try more of their offerings. It doesn't appear that they take reservations but another tip is that they have a counter so if it's just a couple of you that may be a way to go.

Yelp
Amazing food! I went here with my coworkers on a work trip and we all LOVED our food. I had the turkey dill & havarti sandwich and the curry soup, which were AMAZING. I could've eaten this again for dinner and still be happy. My coworkers had the pho soup and the pho dip, both were amazing as well. I tried the blueberry Italian Soda, which was just okay. I didn't end up finishing it. It does get busy during lunchtime, but we were lucky and didn't have to wait for a table. Our server was very nice and recommended some items for us when we asked. Would definitely visit again!

Nancy S.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Salem, hands down! Love the food and service! The curry soup is amazing and I always get it! Also great salads and sandwiches. Next time I'm in Salem, I will be stopping! Highly recommend!!

Valerie A.

Yelp
Incredibly cute historic location and so much to absorb architecturally inside the buildings. The food was good, but the only item we tried that gave me goosebumps was the focaccia as an appetizer! We did have over a one hour wait to be seated. It's a very popular location and once we were seated, we were not rushed at all.

Amelia R.

Yelp
We were doing through and needed to grab lunch and wild pear came up on our search! Boy are we glad to have stopped!!! The chicken salad is a must have! So delicious. I also like that they offer a wide range of side options (with an up charge) as I don't always want French fries. My husband did get the fries and those were a pass. The dessert looked beautiful. We had a strawberry lemon cake and that was the saddest part of the lunch. The cake was soaked in milk? Like tres leches, but not because it was not good and not listed as being soaked. We will be back!

Yelp
Gluten free review: We found this little spot that you can dine outside. They had some gluten free options. I got the Wild Pear Burger with fries and my daughter got the BLT with house made chips. There were some issues with service. We arrived at 12:55 waited 10 minutes to be seated, not too bad. It was busy. We sat outside and continued to watch 2 families who came after us get their food eat and leave. We finally received our food at 2:00 pm. When I got my burger I had a bad feeling and asked again if it were gluten free. She asked and had to take it back to the kitchen to change the bun. Our waters were filled while we waited but no mention of here our food was until we asked. My burger was a 3 out of 5 stars. It was okay. Kind of dry and meaty tasting. I asked for no aïoli, and it came with aïoli at this point I was just going to live with it. The sweet potato fries were delicious I must say. My daughter says her BLT sandwich, placed in a gluten-free burger bun was four out of five stars. The chips looked good but tasted kind of burnt. We are chip lovers. I would try to eat here again because they do have a few options for gluten free but the service left a bad taste in my mouth.

Cherry R.

Yelp
When I think of lunch restaurant this is one of the main ones that comes I love their sandwiches, specifically the BLT is awesome if that's your thing. Service can sometimes be pretty slow and it's also quite noisy due to the structure of the building I believe which is why I have to deduct a star.

Lauryl A.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this restaurant, given its claims of being seasonal, locally sustainable, and organic. However, the execution fell flat. The menu is scattered, with no clear theme or strong seasonal focus--maybe the fish? It also boasts heritage dishes, but they feel heavily Americanized, lacking authenticity. Plate presentation was uninspired, and the staff seemed disengaged and unhappy, likely due to poor treatment from upper management. To add to the frustration, there's no accommodation for a kids' menu option to get a burger with a side of fruit--only fries. I could add a side of fruit, but that makes no sense. The bathroom was dirty, adding to the disappointment. Honestly, the only nice thing about this place is the look of the building. Overall, this place talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk.

Erin H.

Yelp
Still dreaming about the butternut squash soup from this place!! Everything on the menu looked delicious and everything we ordered was so good that I wish we lived closer to frequent more often. This is the perfect place to take people out of town or a stop for lunch during your road trip. It looked like it kept quite busy, but we were able to walk around the city during our 15 to 20 minute wait. There's only street parking but honestly, the city seems small enough that it shouldn't be an issue as long as you can walk around. Everyone on the staff was also super friendly and made sure we were taken care of!

Madalyn Ann G.

Yelp
I love the food at wild pear. My go to is the blta with the BUTTERNUT SQUASH CURRY soup (highly recommend). It's a cute place and easy to relax

Richard B.

Yelp
Wow, ate here for the first time in a while(people w/me have been here many more times)and the service was great, the food choices superb, and the quality of the food was exquisite. Excellent, looking forward to coming back; nice variety from Ritters too, another quality restaurant in Salem, Oregon, across the intersection(both have outside seating when needed).

Maggie S.

Yelp
the pho beef came very overcooked and tough, pho broth not very flavorful. however, the pho dip is INSANE. so so good. juicy, saucy, with the broth to dip- unbeatable. the mixed fries are very good as well. good service. i've done take out as well and it's always timely ready. dessert options so yummy, a bit expensive - about $8-9 for cake/cheese cake serving. very cute restaurant.

Yelp
I was visiting Salem for a half marathon and was struggling to find somewhere to eat as Salem seems to be a bit of a foodie desert. Ultimately I decided to try Wild Pear as it seemed warm and inviting when I was walking by. The dining area inside is intimate and they offer bar and outdoor seating as well. As I was dining alone, they asked if I was okay sitting at the bar, which I was. I started with their seasonal berry cooler cocktail, which was beautiful and delicious! It was almost too pretty to drink The menu had a good variety of enticing options, however I didn't want anything too heavy so I opted for the small Caesar salad. The salad was crisp, refreshing and not overly dressed. It was the perfect size for me, however they do offer a large size as well. The server was nice, but didn't check on me much, which is kind of odd for a bartender, especially as I was the only one at the bar most of my time there. She was also focused on figuring out a pay discrepancy on her check with the manager in front of me, which was a bit awkward. Overall this is a cute spot with good food and drink, so worth checking out if you are in downtown Salem.

Yelp
Small restaurant with a variety of different types of food. Food :3/5 We chose this restaurant because someone told us it had Vietnamese food and we were pleased at the menu. Their Brie appetizer is very good but also expensive for the size. The pho was ok. The curry was ok. The pear pizza was pretty good. Service 3/5. Average but pleasant Ambiance 3/5 Casual and friendly . The people who modernized ithis old building did a nice job preserving the brick walls and the interesting old ceiling. Parking -somewhat difficult. Street parking is available but usually full-there are some lots within a few blocks

Renae C.

Yelp
We ordered catering for our holiday party and it was amazing. The staff was incredible when I messed up the pick up time and still made it all happen for me. The food is high quality and tastes amazing. I've priced many different catering options in town and this is very affordable but much nicer than most local options.

Wendy S.

Yelp
What a wonderful place. We visited Salem today with a group of 9. They were wonderful. We had reservations and the table was ready when we arrived. The menu is very extensive and appeals to all diet regimens. The desserts are amazing as well. Very friendly service. I had the spicy chicken club. Big enough where I took half home. My friend also ordered the croissant bread pudding. Oh my. If ever in salem for lunch you can't go wrong here. I'm

Heather W.

Yelp
Best restaurant in Salem! Especially if you are looking for Soup and Salad! Great service and ambiance!

Josh B.

Yelp
The food was amazing and the service was perfect. This place is always hopping, but carries a wonderful ambiance. Great quality of food. 10/10

Yelp
I moved down from Portland about thirteen years ago. One thing that was surprisingly disappointing was the lack of restaurant options. Unless you like eating at strip mall restaurants or Mexican food all the time. Wild Pear is easily the best restaurant in town when it comes to variety, service, quality and price. There truly is something for everyone on their menu. I've never known of a restaurant to take on Pho to burgers, and everything in between so consistently well. Excellent salad varieties and rotating specials. The best part is everything is done in unpretentious fashion. The servers have personality and the bar ain't too shabby either. Six out of five stars!

Marilyn K.

Yelp
Always consistently delicious with attentive service. Always busy too during prime lunch hours. I have always highly enjoyed this restaurant for many years. Never a disappointment! 5 stars plus!

Karen W.

Yelp
As first-timers, this warm and quaint eatery bustling with customers was a very good sign. Vast menu selection made it hard to decide-- my tastebuds watered while perusing the choices. Opted for the pear salad and yummy butternut soup. My tummy was so happy. Can't wait to go back and try more scrumptious looking dishes.

Leahnor S.

Yelp
I was seated right away. I had the wild pear salad with flank steak and it delish! Loved to friendly bright ambience.

Kelly P.

Yelp
Great butternut curry soup! Green Chili verde casserole Love everything here! Can be busy always worth the wait. Lovely desserts and cocktails! Love the decor and ceilings tiles. Check the hours open

Maria O.

Yelp
This restaurant is located downtown and there is indoor and outdoor seating. We arrived around one in the afternoon on a Friday and waited 20 minutes before being seated. Our server was friendly, helpful and efficient. I ordered the Lobster and seafood melt with a side pear salad. The sandwich was big enough to feed two people and had a nice flavor. I would not recommend if anyone does not like mayo! The pear salad had a great flavor with plenty of pears and walnuts. It can get a little noisy but not to the point of having to repeat yourself. There are plenty of items in the menu and we'll worth the wait.

David W.

Yelp
Cute place with tremendous food. The service was pretty bad, even though it was late for lunch and they were not that busy. Perhaps we just went there on a bad day or they were short employees, but the food more than made up for the slow service we had.

Angelina C.

Yelp
Excuse me if this post is short but I'm literally dying and in heaven over this chicken salad.

Cheryl N.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday evening. Wasn't packed like it is at lunch. Was able to grab a table. There are plenty of light fixtures, but a few dark spots in some of the booths (maybe use candles or faux candles on tables)? Just a suggestion...it didn't effect my review or rating. Service was good. Strawberry lemonade was $4, no refills. The beef Pho was pho-tastic. Once you get halfway through all of the broth is just soaked with amazing flavors. The beef itself was alright. The noodles were perfect. This was also a gf dish .Good value at $16 considering the bowl was huge. The gf chocolate torte with raspberry coulis was $9 and I took it to go. It was pretty tasty and rich. Thank you Wild Pear for having so many tasty gluten free options .

M R.

Yelp
First time visiting this lovely place. I love the ambience. We were seated quickly after what looked like hitting a lunch rush. Service was not great at all. She didn't seem like she wanted to be there or to assist us with our selections. We ordered the appetizer of bri to share. As you can see from the second picture, it came out absolutely inedible. The soup was delicious, and additional salads were great. I hope to regain hope that this place is a gem in DT Salem.

Ediva Z.

Yelp
Service was slow and 3 out of the four people at my table ended up getting stomachaches unfortunately. Food was subpar and now I don't feel well. It was packed and we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated but I'm not sure why it's such a busy spot when the food isn't great and made us sick.

Janet L.

Yelp
Restaurant has seriously gone downhill. My dining companion and I ordered the same sandwich. Both were inedible. Didn't have the ingredients list in the menu description and the BBQ pork was clearly very old and had been dunked into a salty vat of water only serving to make the baguette soggy. Meat seemed to be dangerously close, if not at, causing illness if consumed. Couldn't get any employee in the establishment to come to the table, even after waving a white napkin (yes we had surrendered all hope) above my head. Left the table after 10/15 minutes of no response and couldn't even get help by waiting at the hostess sound which is very visible to most of the restaurant. Go here only if you need to turn up sick to avoid something dire.

Elizabeth A.

Yelp
My first time trying Wild Pear was delicious. The sesame ginger dressing that was drizzled on top of this was to die for! I loved the combination of everything that was included in this dish my tastebuds were in heaven.

Sam W.

Yelp
It would be great if you removed the plastic from the key lime tart. Found between the bottom crust and tart. Thanks for the microplastics

Nicky U.

Yelp
I had the bbq pork bahn mi. It was so salty I couldn't eat the pork. I pulled it off and left it on the side of the plate. The server didn't ask if there was a problem with it.

Cynthia D.

Yelp
This is a cute and popular place right in the heart of Portland. Great for lunch, and probably other meals as well. You might need reservations. The Bánh mì sandwich was terrific, as were their salads.

Annie V.

Yelp
Delicious! Everything we ordered hit the spot, and we were very well taken care of. My partner and I ordered a bowl of the coconut curry & the carrot ginger soups, and the bbq bahn mi with a side of sweet potato truffle fries. The mustard aioli is great with the fries, and I'd also recommend having the garlic aioli with them too. Cute& bright cafe spot!

erok m.

Yelp
Foods good but took about an hour from the time we sat down with little to no explanation or updates. Would appreciate a little "your goods coming soon" or something to that nature. But really no communication.

Kal C.

Yelp
This place is everything. So much love in the food. If my mom were to open a restaurant, I think it'd be something like this. My mom used to be a baker, and the second I took a bite of their baked goodies I knew I'd have to take her here. Lunch was amazing. Their soups are great, and everything coming out of the kitchen looked fabulous. Don't sleep on the key lime tart. Truthfully, the carrot cake (with orange) was divine, as well. Basically, order the entire menu & feel no shame.

Sabrina B.

Yelp
Turkey sandwich which was great. House made chips were very good as well. Didn't have dessert but the cakes looked very good.

Noelle D.

Yelp
The ambience, the customer service and the food were all excellent. Also, they had very appealing vegan options.

Eric M.

Yelp
Delicious pho. That's all I had for lunch and couldn't finish it. Lots of meat and veggies

Julianna S.

Yelp
Best lunch and such sweet service too! Now I know why so many people rave about this hot spot!

Naomi F.

Yelp
Great mixture of Asian and western style meal. Their Pho dip is amazing!!! Chickpea Kale salad is my favorite!!! It was great lunch with my friends before visiting my college that I graduated in 1996.

Allison B.

Yelp
My family has visited the Wild Pear several times on our trips to Salem. The food is fabulous. Unfortunately, the service on this last trip was rough. My daughter and I ordered a quesadilla and sandwich. After waiting 35 minutes, we asked how much longer and were told 5 to 10 minutes, and asked if we wanted to cancel the order. Super bummed, but probably crossing this off our places to visit in Salem.

Audrey C.

Yelp
I was very impressed with Wild Pear fun the start. Even during the lunch rush, it only took about 10 minutes to get seated. Our server, Brooke was friendly, attentive made great suggestions for us to try. We needed some substitutions because we did not like any spicy ingredients. No problem! My BLT was loaded. No skimping here. I truly could only finish half of the sandwich. The hubby's soup was a winner and he loved the pizza. Everything was made fresh in site. We were stuffed and too full for what sounded like delicious desserts. The prices were more than fair. We will definitely make the Wild Pear part of our regular restaurant rotation when we are in Salem.

Tracy S.

Yelp
Great service, average pricing, and amazing food. Had to wait 30 minutes to be seated but well worth the wait. The food was as good as it looked. Can't wait to go back!

Kendra B.

Yelp
Our server was amazing, but we waited for over an hour for our order, with a handful of orders taken after ours coming out. When the food came out the French Dip was so hard it couldn't be eaten, the burger was pretty much raw and the pulled pork was so dry it flaked!! When we brought it up to the server she had the manger come to the table who proceeded to argue that the burger was medium not rare. Granted she did comp our bill but the argument was uncalled for. Definitely will not be going back.

Janiene B.

Yelp
Charming venue. The service was great. The food was delicious, especially the banana cake we shared for dessert. I will definitely be back!

Katie S.

Yelp
Everything here is good! I have had nearly everything on their menu and found it all to be fresh, healthy, and delicious! My favorites are the truffle fries, with any of the yummy sandwiches as well as their fabulous soups & salads!

Larry I.

Yelp
Overall the food was very tasty. Placed the online order and picked it up a half hour later. Process was quick and simple. Notes section wasn't followed by staff but we scraped off the requested no cheese from the one item and managed. Ordered 2 soups and the order only came with one spoon.
