Wild Salmon Seafood Market - Review - Seattle - The Infatuation

"As the name suggests, you’ll find a lot of salmon at this market located at Fishermen’s Terminal right next to Little Chinook’s (the smell of fish and chips should get you excited to buy some seafood). Wild Salmon sells coho, sockeye, king salmon, and a bunch of shellfish, too. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Came here to get some super fresh ahi and ono fish! We absolutely loved the selection of fresh fish. We also ended up getting some Sockeye Salmon! They also have different types of butter. I got a garlic butter and a dill butter both home made. The prices are not bad at all. Want to go back and check out some of the canned fish. I saw something super cool flavors. Workers were very sweet. Was awesome that they were open on the 4th of July. Definitely will make the journey back next time I need fish.

Google
I love and miss Wild Salmon Seafood Market so much. The halibut cheeks, spot prawns, crab meat, salmon, sauces, fish cakes, whole trout and whole branzino. Fresh or flash frozen it was top notch. We live in Denver right now and we can’t get high quality meat or fish for anything close to Seattle prices. You can live where rent is cheaper but the car insurance and rent is more and I’m reminded how much people in the landlocked states don’t know what they are missing and how corporate America really price gouges them for it. And the air quality in Colorado is worse too. Stay where the fish is fresh especially if you originate from a landlocked state like me and ended up in a coastal place. Coastal food can’t be beat and the great service and food at Wild Salmon Seafood Market is a great example of that with fair prices for hard-working folks.

Google
This place is excellent and great prices. They have a wide variety of fresh fish, everything that’s in season. Their house made rubs are delicious, inventory of accessories and sauces great and I love their smoked salmon!

Google
In Seattle, everyone eats fish (obviously), but finding fish at competitive pricing is more of a challenge. Wild Salmon is our go-to and not just for salmon, although they have many varieties (including smoked, etc), but also other fresh from the boat choices that include a tremendous variety of really amazing fish. For example we wanted to try the famous Nobu marinated black cod recipe… well, no problem! And a few days ago, they had fresh sturgeon — for me, an incredible treat. Equally good choices for shellfish, shrimp (try the tiny pink ones!), crab, you name it.

Google
Freshest seafood market in all of Seattle! I picked up some Dungeness crab for a friend, and it was freshly prepared this morning.

Steve Grappo

Google
Always wild caught fish. Their chowder and other food items are tasty. Friendly and helpful staff. Lemons and a very yummy baguette (be there early, they sell out) are available. Scallops, various sizes of shrimp and prawns, clams and mussels are also available.

Google
My go-to place to buy fish for shipping. A good variety of fresh seafood. The staff is helpful! Also go here for a good lunch during the workday!

Google
Highly recommend! Beautiful location right on the water. Tons to see and do in the area. Restaurant was great, employees were great, food was perfect, portions were plentiful, presentation perfect. I love all of Anthony'srestaurants. Would eat here again if I'm ever in the area again.

Yelp
Beautiful, delicious, fresh salmon, and a wide selection of other seafood. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and the King Salmon was amazing.

Yelp
What a great place to buy seafood. I'm not a seafood fan myself but I've stopped in here a few times to pick up halibut, prawns, crab cakes, etc for my family back in Spokane. Everyone has said the food is delicious. I feel pricing is appropriate given the freshness of the seafood. They've even secured in a box with ice during my drive to Spokane (4ish hours) during the summer months.

Glenn S.

Yelp
Outstanding selection of seafood. It is the only place on the south side that has live, whole lobsters.

Jim M.

Yelp
Always fresh seafood. My go to place for the variety and quality. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Yelp
Stopped by here to pick up some fresh, local seafood for a holiday celebration and was pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the prices were. The guys working were so helpful, knowledgeable and patient with us. We were picking out ingredients for a seafood chowder (that came out insaaaanely delicious) and their suggestions were ~chefs kiss~. Side note: if you are in need of fish stock/broth, be sure to pick up some of theirs, made in house! It's incredibly fresh and flavorful and really elevates any recipe. Absolutely love this spot and cannot recommend it enough for fresh seafood in Seattle!

Fatafehi F.

Yelp
Great service and prices! Will be my go to place to get fresh salmon for my family visiting from out of town.
google avatar

Thomas R.

Yelp
The staff at Fresh Fish are more congenial, but the prices are a bit lower here at Wild Salmon, so if I'm in the neighborhood, I stop and pick up a piece of fish like I did today. Check the price board out front for what's been caught that day. There's also plenty critters stocked in the freezers, too. Smoked Black Cod is a standout. Get some fresh halibut if they have it. Buy a can of sardines packed in brine in case of Armageddon. Sardines go great with beans.

Yelp
Called in to order fresh seafood. Great service and great prices! They are shipping overnight. Would recommend using this place if you want some fresh Seattle food.

Steve S.

Yelp
I brought in a giant bloody bag of about 10 fillets of king. They freshly packaged it in a sealed box in no time I had that thing on the train headed south within the hour, great service.

Yelp
Our family of 6 from LA just dropped into town for 2 nights at a nearby Airbnb, prior to taking a cruise out of Seattle port. With only limited time, instead of looking for a seafood restaurant amidst the "Seafest" congestion happening in downtown that day, we decided to cook ourselves a seafood dinner. When yelped, wild salmon market was just around the corner! The staff were friendly and helpful, and dinner... voila!! Seafood was fresh and tasty!

Yelp
Trying to enjoy a rainy day during the Covid-19 quarantine, we drove to see the Chittenden Locks and stopped by Fisherman's Terminal on the way back. My guess is, during a normal Saturday in healthier times, the Terminal would be packed with tourists and people out for the day. Wild Salmon allowed only three masked marauders in at a time, and health and safety were paramount. Wild Salmon is for "real," and the information posted let patrons know what was fresh, what was frozen, and how much it would cost. I loved the experience. Our purchases included 4 pounds of fresh Coho Salmon and fresh Halibut with a cost of about $100.00. Seattle ain't cheap, and prices are not going down. In fact, real estate is still going up. (Amazon's earnings are up during the pandemic) As always, we broil or bake seafood lightly, with just a touch of mustard. The fish was delicious, well worth the price of the swallow. I will be back to Wild Salmon to purchase fresh seafood. Next time, I may have to wait longer, but it will be worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place. They have the most delicious, fresh salmon and halibut. This is the only store where I buy fish.

Yelp
Butter. The King Salmon flaked, the texture was butter, and it was worth every penny. Years I've lived here and never went down to Fisherman's Terminal much less that the Wild Salmon Seafood Market was even there. I had been spoiled for years by being a beneficiary of other people's fishing. I want to eat the fish. I don't want to meet my meat. But times change and I realized long ago as the fishers retired and sold their boats I had to find another way. I was pleasantly surprised to find this market. It wasn't my intent when I visited Fisherman's Terminal but I was pleased when I saw it! I studied the board that had the different fish listed. I saw the sign that proclaimed not to enter, that we would be summoned. But once inside I was poorly prepared! It is one thing to look at a board of fresh fish and another to be surrounded by so much food! Only three customers in at time resulted in my companion being asked to leave. That was fine - he wasn't buying anything anyhow so he could go. The gentleman who weighed all my fish was particularly fastidious and patient - a rare combination of traits indeed! My eyes couldn't take in everything. A pound of smelt for my friend so he'd be willing to portion my fish and my fish consisted of black cod, king salmon, and red salmon. I then spied crab meat and got some added to the order. Everyone was so pleasant! I wish I had more time but the demand was high and space small. Then I took the food home and proceeded to eat it and it was delicious. Every bite, every morsel has been exquisite. I am very pleased!

Yelp
Thank you! That's truly the only way to start off this review! The guys were great! I had never been and just wanted to look at everything available. I went around 10:00am on a Sunday which is a little risky in my opinion. To my delight they still had plenty of great cuts available! I said I would be grilling the fish and the piece he was going to give me unfortunately didn't have the skin on, which was cool in my mind. No biggie really. But he insisted if I was going to grill it to get a piece from the back with the skin on. So sweet! Truly loved the service. It's close so I'll definitely be going back to support them!

Yelp
If you are looking for a good fish market you have found the place. Fresh fish and great prices! Everything is seasonal so don't expect fresh salmon all the time. You can get smoked salmon from the fridge though for a good part of the year. They also have clams, oysters and other things like pickled herring available. There are a lot of choices and the cases are pretty stocked with fish so no matter what the season is, you'll get fresh fish. This place is pretty busy. Moreso in the summer and fall because the fishing seasons hit on those times. Worse comes to worst you can always check the website to see what they have in stock. The best option is to visit in person though. Fish is updated daily and the website is only a quick view of what they have in stock. The guys are busy but are willing to help out. Don't be afraid to ask for recommendations either. They can tell you what fish is best for ever cooking method. If you are traveling they will also help you package fish and tell you how to transport it without any issues. They'll even wrap it up for you! If you're looking for quality fish at prices cheaper than other places you need to stop here! I mean, the boats stop here so you might as well get the best right?

Yelp
Knowledgeable and helpful staff to answer any questions you might have, not to mention a great selection of seafood!
google avatar

Yelp
This a great little market for fresh seafood. I ordered a ten oysters for around $16. The oysters were fresh, delicious, and of great quality. The market itself is very small and allows for three customers at time to enter at a time where which could result in some significant wait times. However, there was no wait time when I arrived (1pm on a Monday). This is a great option for those seeking out fresh and local seafood for a special occasion. You should expect to pay more than your local grocery store.
google avatar

Joel M.

Yelp
Fresh fish and friendly staff that ALWAYS asks if I'm going straight home (want some ice?). Doesn't specialize in off season stuff, but the in season stuff is GOOD!
google avatar

Edgar C.

Yelp
Prices were super fair and the service was absolutely amazing. Clearly the woman behind the counter new that I wasn't from around here and she took the time to clearly break down the different types of salmon and pros and cons. She made the experience wonderful and we bought some of their spice rubs for future meals. Thanks so much!

Yelp
Once again, a long overdue review. I've been going to Wild Salmon for many years. This is my go-to place for seafood in Seattle. Many years ago, I worked on a seafood processing ship and picked up some pointers on grading salmon. Well, I have to say that WS is top notch In not just that way. There, you get the double-whammy of best quality AND price. Sure, you can find seafood on sale at a better price, but quality won't necessarily be there. Moreover, WS tends to have everyday prices comparable to your average sale price. That said, let's talk product. WS has it down. To die for: Salmon spread, Bay shrimp cocktail (though they're now selling separate the shrimp and their house cocktail sauce), salmon jerky, etc. They also provide fillet service for all whole fish they sell. For free. What seafood? Their first focus is local, fresh, and in season. It's early summer today, and I saw two or three salmon, trout, Black Cod, rockfish,Halibut, crab, clams, squid, and the list goes seemingly forever for such a small store. There will be flash-frozen, but that is actually not a bad thing. I know flash freezing. Just like how an extremely sharp knife cutting an onion goes a huge way to prevent tears, flash freezing doesn't (or, at least, minimizes) molecular rupture. Honest. This is true. Still, what catches my eye is the minimal fish scale loss on the salmon. That's what tells you how gentle their seafood is handled. There are many other side items that keep catching my attention. My wife thinks I'm weird for liking Pickled herring (Scando-local!). Well, put on a good multi-grain cracker, you have a naughty-nutritious snack. WS also sells salmon caviar. "Ikura" is what the Japanese call it. You see on one kind of sushi. Party the local on crackers and wash it down with sparkling wine! Going back to the salmon spread, it's worth getting their crab cakes (!!!!!!!) and making a burger with WS's salmon spread. Whoa, Nelly! You gonna brok yo' mouth!!!!!

Yelp
I visit the store whenever I need to buy fresh salmon. There was something off with my last purchase, we tried to cook the salmon but it gave a bit of a weird smell. I contacted the store, explained what happened, and they asked me to bring it in. They then replaced it with a fresh one no questions asked. Happy with the quality. Thanks and keep up the good work!

Yelp
I have come here twice for seafood. Both times I've picked up black cod and it has always been excellent. They also have some prepped foods like crab cakes and clam chowder. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Yelp
If you are shopping for fresh seafood, this is a great place to stop. I like to go to a nice dinner at Chinook's and then come here afterward and pick up a shrimp cocktail and some crab cakes for brunch the next day. They have a great display of fresh seafood ranging from salmon to crab, shrimp, scallops, squid and fish. They also have some great condiments like tartar sauce, garlic butter, cedar planks and seasonings for your seafood. The staff are super helpful and always very friendly. They pack up your order and if you tell them you are traveling, they will include an ice pack and wrap it up so that nothing leaks. The service is outstanding.
google avatar

Drew Y.

Yelp
Stopped here for some snacks and chanced upon salmon jerky and salmon candy. Absolutely delicious but certainly an acquired taste. Great selection of products.
google avatar

Pragnesh P.

Yelp
Local favorite for fresh and seasonal seafood. Located at the fisherman's terminal this small airy and fresh seafood place can't be better situated. From all varieties of fresh or previously frozen fish varieties, smoke salmon, crab, mussels, oysters, clams, clam chowder soup, seasonings, wine pairings- I can go on. For seafood lover this is the place. Of course catch of the season is a big hit here. Staff here have a great passion for seafood and is courteous, knowledgeable and friendly. Service is prompt with proper packaging to carry home your catch.

Yelp
I was visiting from SF and offered to cook for eighteen people in my wife's family. First question: what is a classic Seattle meal? Second question: is there a place I can get salmon fresh off the boat? The folks at Wild Salmon Seafood Market were friendly on the phone and extremely helpful in the shop. I opted for a whole Marbled King Salmon. It was not the usual pink-orange color so I thought I'd try something new. They filleted it for me and even put two pounds in a cryovac so my BIL could enjoy it after the hordes had left. Great selection of spices, accessories, and of course local seafood. It was the kind of place I'd imagined in my more optimistic dreams, and the dinner turned out really well with these bad boys on the grill.
google avatar

Gloria C.

Yelp
More like "wow" salmon seafood market because this place is amazing! A little seafood market with tons of fresh seafood! Dropped by here and got some salmon drip & fresh oyster another day and wanted to come back since. The oyster costed around $1-2 each. Will come back soon!
google avatar

Oskar Z.

Yelp
This is where the locals go to get our fresh fish and seafood without the Pike Place Market expensive prices. Their customer service is very friendly and will accommodate the packing food your travel time if your from outside Seattle. Check them out!

J H.

Yelp
many fresh fish choices and other items. they have housemade. clam chowder in refrigerator section. Delicious, while clams shows as first ingredient it has more of a potato salad consistency cold. heat it up and creaminess comes out. little bits of bacon too, delicious.
google avatar

annie n.

Yelp
I come here almost weekly to buy seafood. It's the best place in Seattle for high quality fish/clams etc. The employees are always friendly and helpful and I love that they will vacuum seal portions of fish for me to then freeze. Plus the prices are competitive if not better than most other spots. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Amanda A.

Yelp
Great selection of fresh seafood, convenient parking situation. Clam chowder to take and heat up is phenomenal. If you can, try the Copper River Salmon. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
Overdue review.. A week or so ago, I placed my order through a 3rd party delivery service and it did not go well.. I had never had issues prior to this but things happen.. Wild Salmon called to let me know about the issue and that they would figure something out.. They sure did.. Paula called me back a couple minutes later to inform me that she would deliver it. Amazing.. Paula and her team consistently impress with their above and beyond customer service and the quality of their seafood speaks for itself. Keep it up!!
google avatar

Josh P.

Yelp
They used to peel and devein the shrimp we would buy. Apparently, they don't do that anymore.
google avatar

Mary H.

Yelp
This place is great. It's not cheap but it is reasonable. The fish is fresh, the salmon spread and crab cakes are amazing. Not to mention I they ship all over the U.S. so I was able to send some smoked salmon to my mom in Illinois, for Mother's Day. Will definitely be supporting regularly.
google avatar

Morgan R.

Yelp
The place to buy fish in Seattle - located at Fisherman's terminal, next to Chinook's The prices are competitive, and the fish are far fresher than you get at a grocery store. Combine that with a truly knowledgable staff (seafood is all they do), and this is the place to go for fish (though they have one good competitor in the Rainier Valley, if that's closer). If I want to be sure my fish is good (as in for a special occasion), this is the place I go. Grocery stores sometimes do OK, but not always. This is always good.
google avatar

Heather K.

Yelp
Amazing selection of fresh seafood. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Parking is great! We usually head here after some brewery hopping and get some fresh shellfish (clams, oysters, mussels) to take home for the evening. Afterwards, we enjoy the beautiful view from the storefront!

Susan J.

Yelp
Service with a smile! We brought our freshly caught salmon in to be vacuum packed. I was not exactly sure about what I wanted. The gentleman at the cash register kindly described the various processing and their prices. Their service was exactly as described. I would definitely go back. BTW.....their fish selection looked great!
google avatar

Frannie G.

Yelp
This place has Spot Prawns, halibut and a little bit of everything. Great service. A little pricey but they have quality products.
google avatar

Mariko L.

Yelp
My boyfriend introduced me to this place, as he's been getting his crab here for years. As other reviewers have mentioned, this place always has great high quality seafood and I love hitting up a smaller seafood store by the docks over the seafood case at a grocery store. We mainly stop by for crab and/or oysters to shuck at home but their fish selection is also great! They usually have a limited selection of baguette, lemons, accoutrements, and other items (I believe I've seen chowders?) to round out your seafood purchase needs.

William P.

Yelp
Steaks??, the seafood is very good. Been a customer for many years. A couple of the old hands really know their fish and the salmon dip is the best and the salmon candy is wonderful, know Salmon belly.

Jinxuan Q.

Yelp
Smoked salmon is awesome, tasty, chewy, slightly sweet. Fish is super fresh and fat, hahaha. Not too expensive as better quality.
google avatar

Hayley V.

Yelp
Yikes. Thought we would try out this market for some fresh shrimp and it was super sketch. First off, the shrimp we pointed to in the case were big and healthy looking but I watched our cashier put shrimp into our bag that was clearly not the same kind, about a 1/3 of the size, and fished from the back side of the shrimp case. What kind of trickery is that having healthy shrimp on the customer's side and icky bait shrimp on the bagging side?! He started putting the big ones into the bag after we made eye contact probably because I was sending him DO-THE-RIGHT-THING eye daggers. I wasn't too impressed by the price ($8.99 for a lb of shrimp when you can get them at Pike's for $2 less) which was fine because I want to support local fisherman but after I got them home to clean them I was horrified by their state. There was this weird filmy-white bacteria/mold-looking stuff on the shells of the shrimp and slimy black spots forming on the outside of the flesh. They also smelled abnormally strong. We ended up throwing out half of them and debating whether or not we should eat the rest. The two stars are for the shrimp we did eat, mostly because I'm surprised I don't have a wicked case of food poisoning right now. I think it takes about 24 hours to set in though and it hasn't been that long yet so I'll let you know..... I would love to support this place but it seemed like they were trying to pawn off some poor quality seafood on me that should have never gone home with a paying customer. Not sure if this was a one time thing but I'm not very comfortable taking chances with my seafood so I doubt I'll buy from them again.
google avatar

Ben M.

Yelp
F- I have relatives in town from the mid-west, and of course we wanted to buy and cook some fresh fish. I had always seen the signs on 15th, and who doesn't want to support the locals? This is Seattle, it's what we do. Going in, of course the copper river jumped out. I was more in the mood for a white fish though, and ended up picking out the "fresh" black cod. Strike one - Asked for 6oz fillets, and the guy behind the counter did not seem inclined to cut them. He ended up giving us two larger fillets, from near the tail, which looked pretty identical. I got the fish home and cut my own fillets. My cuts from the first fillet cooked well and held together. From the second fillet, well, it was completely mush. It obviously had been frozen, thawed, and left in the case too long. It was cooked in exactly the same conditions as the first, so there's really not much else in the way of explanation. It was also grainy, and had a slightly off flavor. While I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, this is a pretty egregious action on their part. I will never go back.
google avatar

Jeffrey G.

Yelp
This is not seafood for dummies. This is not Pike Place, You need to know what your looking for and what your looking at. Yes, Wild Salmon was far better when David owned it and lived by the name Wild Salmon and sold only that product. These guys don't make 6 figures throwing the same poor salmon back and forth, nor give corporate lectures about throwing fish. What do they do? They ask what you want, they reach into the cooler, then they give it to you. Ask for oysters in June, your going to get them. They are fishmongers. I too wish I could blame them for the inane Port of Seattle policies. Aint their fault. (Just cause some filmmaker said it dont make it so) Please contact your local representative to insure that pleasure craft have no place in this harbor.
google avatar

Annette D.

Yelp
I shop here regularly and have had consistently helpful and friendly service. I stopped going to Pike Place because the price to quality ratio was just not as good as it is at Wild Salmon. They frequently give me a little extra if the piece I am buying has a little left on it (I ask for 2 lbs, the piece is 2.4 so they just give me the whole thing). If you ask them what's best that day, they won't steer you wrong. I'm not sure what happened with the customer who complained of their shrimp experience. I'd recommend they let the folks at Wild Salmon know and I bet they will make it right. These guys have always been more than fair to me. By far, the best place for Copper River salmon when they start running.
google avatar

Zach R.

Yelp
I do not go here a whole lot, but when I need fresh seafood, it's a good place to shop. The prices are not drop-dead awesome, but they are usually a few bucks lower than other local markets. The more you buy, the more you seem to save. I haven't had any problems with the quality, but I admit, my shopping frequency is limited. When I need some seafood for dinner and I don't have to patron another grocery store, I head to Wild Salmon Seafood Market.
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
Certainly not the cheapest seafood around- but they consistently have really high quality fish (especially salmon). They have great oysters too- if that's your thing. They have some exotic frozen meats too (alligator, razor clams etc.). Always lots of parking. Recommend you check it out.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
This place should be as good as the other reviewers describe but the more I go there (I live 5 minutes away) the more inconsistent it seems. Twice I've bought halibut there that was decidedly substandard (once supposedly fresh but turned out mushy and another time - help me out here, is this something that just happens sometimes or what - it had parasites. Should the fishmonger recognize worms presale or do you only note it when or after cooking it? My chef friend tells me that is a not uncommon finding in Pacific Halibut. At any rate, I'm off halibut for awhile, my previous favorite fish). Service is variable, some guys are on the ball, others are definitely not. Prices are also not great. In comparison, going to the Ballard Market I have found similar quality product for less with a more professional staff.

Yelp
Fish Market in Front of Chinook's at Salmon Bay Restaurant It's a fun place to visit and see various seafood on ice on display. The 700 boat fishing fleet is moored behind the market and offers photo opportunities. You can grab a quick bite to eat next door at Anthony's Little Chinook's or relaxing full service breakfast, lunch or dinner at Anthony's Chinook's at Salmon Bay Restaurant.
