Holy crap these drinks are good!
I've been dying to go to this place for the longest. I even tried to go the weekend they opened but by the time I put my car in park and looked up, the owner Yhang was putting a sign on the door saying that they were closed for the day because they ran out of everything. I was super bummed but I figured that I'd just be patient and wait for the initial newness to die down some. That opportunity came around about 3 weeks later one afternoon.
I grabbed my boyfriend and headed over to Wildcrafters. I was able to park right in front, no problem. We walked in and were greeted by Yhang immediately. He pointed us to all the open seating and to the menus. Honestly, it took us awhile to decide what we wanted to get because everything sounded so good. We decided to sit in front of the bar to really check everything out, the hanging plants, the open window behind the bar area, the edible plants growing on the bar (which were so pretty and dainty). He told us they get their ingredients from Berry Good Farms, which I think is excellent since that supports Special Education. I've loved anything that was grown there.
He explained to us what Kava was and it's health benefits and my boyfriend immediately wanted to get it as a cocktail at first. He got the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Kava (kava, cinnamon, vanilla syrup, oat milk, cereal float) and warned him it may be a bit bitter. He tasted it and was blown away. I tasted it and I could see why it's a very popular sub for alcohol. Yhang said that after 3 drinks you'll start to feel really good so my man was ready for it. I got the Stella Was a Diver tea drink, mostly because it was blue and that's my favorite color (Monday zero alcohol gin, rosemary, lavender, basil, spirulina, lemon, egg white). It's pretty foamy but it tasted amazing. I guess I wasn't expecting more of a tea taste, but the tea was just like a base liquid while all these herbs and flavors stood up loud and proud.
We tried other drinks as well:
- Feel Good Lost (green tea, bell pepper, roasted sesame, lemongrass, lemon, chili oil), really good. You wouldn't think that all these items would go in a drink together but hoo-dang.
- Already Home (falernum, lime, dragonfruit, nasturtium, Topo Chico), my personal favorite. Not only was it pretty it was sweet, tart, tangy, crisp, and refreshing
- Talk To Me (bartender makes you a custom drink based on your likes/dislikes), really interesting as I watched my boyfriend described what he liked and Yhang took it all in and came up with a non-alcoholic beer cocktail. That was pretty cool and pretty tasty for a non-beer drinker.
- Traditional Double Kava - my boyfriend got another kava drink in a coconut-like cup with a pineapple on the side. By now he was feeling pretty loosey-goosey and mellow. Thank goodness.
We thanked him for the great conversation, drinks, and even for opening a place like this. I'm definitely hooked.
Who cares if they don't serve alcohol? You won't miss it! Get yo self there and drink some kava!
