The industrial, shabby-chic interior and ever-changing daily menu of modern Dutch cuisine have made the ‘Wild Boar’ a trendy (and increasingly popular) haunt in Oost. The idea is simple – choose three or four courses, order some wine, and let the kitchen work its magic with fresh, seasonal produce (do try the boar though). And if something a little lighter is required, head next door to their Eetbar, where they offer smaller, individual plates at delightful prices.

Excellent food in a lovely setting. Service was a bit slow but it appeared they were short staffed this particular evening. However, this meant that nobody was in a rush and we had a lovely leisurely meal. Overall very friendly and will certainly return and recommend!

Had a fantastic evening at WILDE ZWIJNEN. Even though we were the last booking of the night, they were still able to accomodate the five-course menu for us and it was delicious. When they saw my partner didn't like one of the dishes, they made her a different one at no extra charge. The host was very kind and friendly and made an excellent wine recommendation. An expensive night out, but worth it for a special occasion, a wonderful experience all round.

Had dinner with a friend here last night - lovely food, incredible service, super enjoyable meal!! We had the homemade bread to start, which was wonderful, and then each had the 3 course chef’s menu with meat and fish. Every dish was lovely, but the dessert was a real standout. Would definitely return next time I’m in town!

Fantastic five course lunch. All dishes were excellent, good ingredients prepared well. Very reasonably priced and good value.

Google
I had one of the best dishes ever. I had the 5 course chef's special, and it was a-ma-zing! Paired with wines it was heavenly. The location is great, atmosphere trendy and the service is outstanding. It wasn't cheap but we'll worth it. Highly, highly recommend!

Been to this place already several times and it never disappoints. The restaurant seems small at first, but pretty spacious inside. You have a few options of the chefs menu and I usually go for the wine pairing. The dishes are creative and exactly to my taste. The spot is romantic and cozy.

Had the chef’s menu and it was great, the service is super friendly and helpful! Highly recommend

Google
We were visiting from England and recommended this restaurant by a friend. Have to say we were blown away by the experience. The service was super professional but relaxed. We went for the 5 courses chef menu as we wanted the full surprise and so glad we did. It pushed us out of our comfort zone but the food was phenomenal so it was totally worth it. I’ve tried new things but also experience foods we love in a new way. We thought it was great value for money too. Surely this restaurant is on the way to Michelin stars! Can’t wait to visit when we are next in Amsterdam.

Yelp
We were on holiday and decided to celebrate a birthday dinner here! We chose the four course option and it was lovely. The food was presented nicely. Each dish had a wine pairing.. of course I tried them all. They were fabulous. My boyfriend enjoyed a few beers. The service was okay. They spoke English fluently and presented the meals well. However one of the waiters kept forgetting about us at the beginning. But his colleague was excellent and provided us with the menus, took our drink order + options. The ambiance is intimate. I loved the candlelight. i recommend it for smaller groups (no more than 4-6). I do think it is ideal for 1-3 people. At times it was difficult to hear for conversations due to overall noise in the space. This made it difficult to hear the descriptions of meals / waiter / company at dinner. Overall it was great & I'd go back! my boyfriend goes "I thought it was awesome"

Yelp
Amazing prix fixe dinner from start to finish! The service, the food, the wine pairing!! We had a lovely evening and enjoyed the mix of seafood, fowl, and vegetables!! Last time we were in Amsterdam I found the food to be heavy and boring and my boyfriend found this place and it totally changed my view of the food scene in Amsterdam!

Yelp
Interesting concept-the entire menu is a surprise. Select 3, 4 or 5 courses (dessert is always included as one course) and then select from vegetarian, fish/veg, or meat/fish/veg (chef's menu). We chose 4 courses, Chef's menu. Our starter was super tender julienned squid in a bright citrus sauce; the Chablis that we selected to drink went really well with it. The mid-course was a squash blossom stuffed with a monkfish quenelle in a light cream sauce, served with mini zucchini. The fish was delicate and juicy. The main was Guinea fowl with 2 sauces, fried polenta, and a vegetarian play on rice pilaf; carrots and cabbage cut to look like pilaf. Dessert was a chocolate dome with a creamy filling over a chocolate wafer, dusted with white chocolate powder. All in, with 2 glasses of wine and one plate of the house bread and butter (do NOT miss the bread and butter; it was some of the best we've ever had), dinner was 125 euro. Recommended for adventurous eaters looking for something different in Amsterdam.

Yelp
Unexpected and lovely new-Dutch tasting menu experience. We came in on a blustery evening, and chose to have the five course menu. You have a choice between a fish/meat focus, a fish focus, or vegetarian option. The ambiance is cozy and gezellig; makes you feel like you're in a fancy cabin. Started with a lovely champagne, one that I would order again. My date started with the cocktail of the evening, some sort of green apple old-fashioned that tasted like dessert. The focus is on fresh and wild ingredients (think fresh seafood and wild game-y meat) and delightful vegetables. The sourdough and foccacia were delicious, just enough to whet our palate for the incoming plates. We felt that the squid and corvina course was a standout. The chef was interactive and accommodating about my dairy intolerance- the waitstaff made sure to inform me about any traces of butter used to cook the food. I really appreciated how creative they were to replace things like beurre blanc. The vegan brownie that was presented with my dairy-free dessert was excellent, and even my date who can eat dairy said he loved the brownie option. Solid choice for a nice date out.

Yelp
Came here for a nice fancy meal on a Sunday night. This place allows you to choose 3, 4, or 5 courses. I'd recommend coming hungry so you can have more. I was only able to eat 3 courses, and regretted it because the middle courses I saw looked great. The main was pheasant, which I wasn't too impressed with even though the flavor itself is pretty good. The texture was just a bit too grainy for me. The dessert, a mandarin orange ice cream with crunchy Graham cracker crust, was the highlight for me. It was so flavorful! Service was a bit slow but it's okay as it is a busy place. The vibe inside is great. It is really well lit and the tables are nice. Overall, a good meal but not quite a great one. Perhaps having extra courses or a different main would have changed my mind.

Yelp
It's a lovely modern restaurant that has been in the area for a good few years. They serve a 3-4-5 course menu including a vegetarian option. The menu is chosen by the chef and changes based on what's in season. The wine list is also decent here and they have a few house cocktails. The food here is ok, nothing special if you ask me. The fish course and dessert was great, but for me, the venison just did not work. It needed a bit of umph and a deeper flavoured jus. It was really quite bland for me. Friendly staff and quick and friendly service. Overall a lovely evening with great company and I may come back and give this place another go. It's cosy and has a lovely open kitchen.

Yelp
We had someone with allergies and the chef came out and discussed. Our server was so knowledgeable. The atmosphere was cool. They are a thoughtful restaurant who called us to make sure our person with allergies would be comfortable. Great experience.

Yelp
We did the tasting w/ a wine pairing, which was incredible value given the experience we had! Everything was so well prepared. The scallop was out of this world, and we have eaten a lot of scallops in our travels! Dessert included sweet pea ice cream which was a surprisingly decilious treat. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. Atmosphere cool. 100% would recommend and would definitely go back if/when we find ourselves in Amsterdam again. On a side note, it is slightly outside of the usual touristy/downtown area, but an easy tram ride out. It was really nice to see more of Amsterdam and how locals might live.

Yelp
This restaurant is perfect for a date! Boyfriend took me here based on our hotel's recommendations listed on their map guide. The price "per table" means cost per person. The free bread was delicious! Would've definitely asked for seconds but I'm trying to cut down on the carbs. We ordered the chef's 4 course dinner with wine pairings for each course which was super fun! All courses came beautifully plated. First course was a white fish dish, which was my fav out of all of them. Cooked to perfection and the flavors complimented each other well. Second course was a crispy fish with lentils. The several lentils floating in the sauce gave me tryptophobia so that was a bit off putting but that's just a personal thing for me. Third course was duck which was tender and flavorful. Last course was a deconstructed pear dessert which was excellent. Came with sorbet too and real fruit pieces. Price was not cheap but this is a great place to splurge a little if you're into that. Came out to about ~$140 USD for two which isn't that bad considering we had 4 hefty glasses of wine each (8 glasses between the both of us). Definitely check this restaurant out if you don't mind spending a bit on a nice dinner!

Yelp
I was nervous about not knowing what the fixed menu was, and the waiter didn't really give us any detail but boy did I enjoy the food we got. We did the three course fixed meal and everything was absolutely amazing. Kind of glad to have gone in blind. Highly recommend, 100/10

Yelp
This place makes us want to get back to Amsterdam. We ordered the four course chef's menu. One of us had the pescatarian version. We made a reservation by email. It was delightful. The staff were charming. The dishes were incredible. For my starter drink, I had ginger ale and genever. The first course was fish soaked in rhubarb syrup with squid, potato, fennel, dill oil. The second course was the best mushroom soup. I mean, THE BEST. With smoked fish. Dear god. The third for spouse was beef, and mine was fish, lentils, mussels, butter beans, green beans. The dessert was ice cream, whey foam, liquor-soaked cherries, blueberries, sponge cake soaked in cherry genever, with raspberry coulis. IT WAS SO GOOD. It felt like a nice neighborhood joint, as most people seemed to be speaking Dutch. It was delightful.

Yelp
It's been more than a week since I got back from Amsterdam and I'm still pondering how to find the right words to express my love for this restaurant. Let's put it this way, when my fish du jour arrived at the table, I went completely silent for 15 mins while savoring the closest moment I'd ever get to heaven. I only returned to earth after the last drop of the broth had been finished. The dish had incredible flavors that came from the freshness of the seafood and a touch of magic spell from the chef. The service was excellent. Our waiter brought over another glass of bubbly without complains after we had spilled and broke the first glass. Sorryyy... The restaurant itself is located at the outskirt of the touristy old town, but it's an easy 10 min walk from Brouwerij't Ij. Not sure if the flight of beer I had at the brewery had any influence on my palate or how I felt about the restaurant, but thought I'd bring it up anyways. Definitely stop by Brouwerij't Ij for some local beer before or after dinner. It's totally worth to venture out and explore this lovely neighborhood. Without a reservation on a Sunday night, we were lucky to secure a table by the window to enjoy the sunset and soak up the beautiful view Amsterdam has to offer. I miss it already!

Yelp
Wilde Zwijnen lies in the East side of Amsterdam and I must say it is definitely worth to visit it! One friend of mine lives in Amsterdam West and complained that he needed to cycle that far to get to the place, but in the end he said that it was worth it...! I reserved the table about 2 days in advanced and after the waitress friendly welcomed me and brought me to the table, I was surprised that my name was written on the wooden table :) The place is pretty cozy with a open kitchen and it has a great ambience with candles all over the place. The menu was good and after the recommendation of Kim V. we haven chosen for a 3 courses Chef's Menu which has a good price: 30,50 euro's. First course: Seabarse with broccoli/ creme sauce Main course: Ribeye, which is grilled in their 'green egg'! Dessert: Lovely chocolate mousse with crunchy cookies and whipped cream I give it 4 stars in stead of 5 stars, because actually the main course was a bit small and no potatoes were included. Luckily we asked for some extra potatoes to have a full meal. However, I definitely will be back in the near future to have another try of their other dishes from their menu! So one more time: Try their meat which is grilled in their 'green egg'! The meat was grilled but still very juicy inside - sooo gooood!

Yelp
Oh, wow. This new-Dutch cuisine restaurant left me pretty amazed. I reckon it's my favorite in Amsterdam to date. Tucked behind the enormous Badhuis, this corner restaurant has all the right stuff - a beautifully refurbished interior, wooden tables, your name in chalk if you reserve, delicious game, veggie options AND it's incredibly reasonably priced. How is this place not constantly booked? We ordered the veal and ravioli appetizers. The veal was beautiful, soft, and delicately garnished. The ravioli was in what tasted like hollandaise - delicious buttery sauce. For our main courses, we had the pork and lamb - both of which were excellent. 2 bottles of wine and all that meat... we were too stuffed for dessert. But we're coming back for it! Would go back again and again. Loves it.

Yelp
I'm not sure what I can add to this great place. Choosing Wilde Zwijnen to celebrate my birthday was a very good option. Choosing the surprise menu (3/4 courses) was smart. It safes time and difficulty to have to choose from everything that looks really yummie. And it actually made us taste food we might not have chosen in the first place. Everything was so delicious and we have never tasted such a nice rice pudding!m desert! Food is fresh, veggies from the season, cookingstyle classic with modern twists. The ambiance is perfect: not too chique, nice decorations, cosy atmosphere. Waiters at friendly and quick although the place was packed. Upon leaving we were even helped in our coats. And the price is worth it. Great experience and we will surely be back again!

Yelp
It does not get better than this y'all. Wilde Zwijnen is for sure my new favorite restaurant in Amsterdam! I you haven't been there yet; make a reservation, NOW! It is so good! I loved all of my food. I had a 3-course surprise menu and it was delish. There was fish, meat, yummy veggies and a lovely dessert. I don't remember the names of the dishes since they weren't on the regular menu but everything was amazing! Also the price is great. 30,50 euros for a menu, which is not much at all for such great food. The staff is also super friendly, helpful and has great knowledge of the food and wines. It is great. The wines are also very good. The chardonnay is delicious and I fell in love with the dessert wine (moscatel) I had with my dessert. I am going to buy that one at De Logie (wine store) soon so I can drink it at home as well! The interior of this place is also lovely. Wooden tables, Industrial, bricks. I really liked it. They have a lovely terrace as well. So, I am a huge fan! I will certainly come back! :)

Yelp
One of the great Amsterdam findings away from main tourist areas... In French, I would say this place could be "ma cantine"...it means a place I regularly go to where you feel comfortable with great good you love. + : This is an unique atmosphere, trendy but cozy, isolated from tourist areas but always full and lively. I love the fact they write you name on the table with chalk when you make a reservation. You have to trust the chef recommandation as you usually go for the menu of the day using (only) fresh ingredients. It is a rather sophisticated Dutch cuisine. Fresh ingredients cooked with typical Dutch preferences (expect fish well cooked in butter, a delicate interpretation of the croquette but with more noble ingredients, a combination of fresh veggies but also fried delicacies...). The fish and other seafood I ate last time were superbe. It was served with a delicate "emulsion" ideal to enhance the taste. - : For this price range (30€ to 40€ three course meal) there is hardly anything to say for quality of food. Only small negative point, it is a bit noisy and tables are rather close to each others... but nothing that should prevent you from having a great evening :) In few words, a very nice discovery and a must try in Amsterdam

Yelp
I was guided to this joint by Dutchgrub, Timeout and the NY Times. I must have gone there on a bad day. Rated amongst the top Amsterdam eateries. Below my expectations. There is a chefs 3 or 4 course menu which we decided against. That might have been a mistake but still the other food shouldn't be affected by that. For starters we had the artichoke soup with wild boar meat and croutons, was hearty, and the ravioli stuffed with leek, ricotta, oxtail good but not outstanding. For main course I had the marbled beef entrecote, it was cooked to perfection but just did not have the flavor, bland. I didn't taste everyone else's food as I normally do because they were all underwhelmed. My fault for giving it a lot of hype and raising expectations.

Yelp
Wilde Zwijnen - great atmosphere and concept. Located in a "old" and brick exposed venue they seem to work the atmosphere good by lighting your candle once you're at your table. Took the 3 courses which was a nice combo of fish and meat. Nothing really special, though the desert blew me away thanks to pepper biscuits - great episode of a so/so menu. Staff for Amsterdam standards pretty friendly, not efficient enough if you would ask me (we saw 4 different waiters and waited long for our orders). Will def go here again, but happy knowing what to expect!
google avatar

Yelp
Not great value for money. Plus we arrived at 8 and our main course came at close to 10. We left very hungry. None of the three courses we had were very tasty sadly. First starter of sea bass was ok.. could have used some salt. Beetroot gazpacho left me longing for real gazpacho. Main course was so delayed it just wasn't fun to eat.

Yelp
Let's just say I am glad I went into this place. I went to Wilde Zwijnen for lunch, and ordered the set menu. And, am I glad I did! Apparently, it's kind of like omakase in that you sort of leave it to the chef to prepare the three course meal for you. The first was beef tartare wrapped in cucumber with some amazing sauce and caviar on top. I am not a big raw beef fan, but this was delicious! The entree was fish - forgot what kind of fish, but was quite delicious and indeed, a work of art. The texture, as well as the flavor, were quite delicate and mysteriously satisfying. The dessert comprised of chocolate pudding and vanilla (?) ice cream, for what was a perfect ending to a work of art. It is too bad that I dined alone, as this was the type of meal that one would want to share with another, for the sheer experience of it. The wait person/server was also quite good, and friendly, as he patiently explained each course, and helped to pronounce the name of the restaurant. Indeed, and excellent service with great food, and also very rustic ambiance to boot. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and will definitely return!

Yelp
As someone else has said, my new favorite restaurant in Amsterdam. Whats not to like with a cozy restaurant with good food, good wine and good service, it is not every restaurant that spoils you with all three. Went there this weekend with friends and we all enjoyed the atmosphere and rustic food. The recommended drink to start the dinner was a prosecco with liquor which was good but i would probably go for something else the next time. Deer sausage with broth as a starter and then a steak and stew of venison as main and both were really good. Nice use of vegetables of the season with different parts of meat. The portions was perfectly sized. Finished of with a nice dessert which also kept its promise. Service was really good despite the fact that it was the first evening of the waitress, still knew a lot of the food and guided us through the meal really well! Will most definitely go again.

Yelp
Yu-u-u-MMMM Seriously: YUM. My friend and I just kept interrupting each other and ourselves and words...words just couldn't get out often enough or fast enough in between bites to describe HOW TASTY the food was. Each bite was a smack-ya-mama tasty experience. As in, seriously, I want to smack my mom if she never tries this place... SOOOO good. We were here for lunch. The inside is BEAUTIFUL. Exposed brick in a way I've never seen it before. An open kitchen with big, silver pots bubbling over with steam coming out, totally gorgeous kitchen! We opted for the 2 course chef's selection lunch. For me: Vegetarian style, of course. First was a beet raviolio with pesto that was TO-DIE-FOR. Next, we both ordered a la carte the white asparagus soup which was, in all honestly, good but not incredible. Not like the ravioli. Then was a leek, cauliflower and other greens type dish with two veggie croquets that melted in my mouth in a way that I felt I was committing a sing. NOTHING SHOULD BE THAT HEAVENLY. Three glasses of wine in total. Dinner total: 74 euros. WANT..MORE...NOW It's a great place. For a nice meal, a romantic dinner, a business lunch, an eat-alone-and-enjoy-your-food, a celebrate-anything kind of occasion. Just get there. New fave in Oost!

Yelp
I had a recent dissappointment here while eating with a party of 6. The service was very slow to deliver, it took them 30 minutes to get us the menu and over 70 minutes to get the first course. By the time we the first course arrived we already finished all the wine and the bread and were eagerly waiting for food, only to be highly dissappointed by the fish course which was bland and inspirationless. The main course was a decent combination of meats, however way to little to feed us, especially taking into consideration that no sides were brought. We certainly wouldn't have been to cheap to order them, but as we did the 3-course surprise menu, we didn't know what to expect and certainly were not made aware of any potential need. By the time the main course arrived it was too late to order any additional sides (or we would have had to wait for at least another 30 minutes for some potatoes). Instead, we ordered some additional bread in await for the dessert which was modest and not bad. Saturdaynight is not a surprise, nor an excuse for bad service. If I was looking to eat bread all night, I would have goon to Hartogs. Luckily, Louie Louie had their kitchen open till late that night, so we could grab some additional snack later on. All in all, I was very dissappointed given the high expectations I had built up over my previous two visits to this place. Unfortunately for both myself and Wilde Zwijnen, there probably won't be a fourth visit here on my part.

Yelp
Quite good Dutch food, if you're into that kind of thing (personally I found it a bit traditional). But great service and nice atmosphere. This is a good "nice place" to take your girlfriend's parents. The only thing they haven't quite figured out yet is how to filter and refract noise; although the place is beautifully designed it is extremely difficult to hear each other even around a small table, and this is somehow true everywhere in the restaurant. Note: do not go here if you are in a hurry! The waiters are nice but the pace is S L O W. A Sunday night dinner took us 3 hours, and all we had was one starter and three mains for the entire table...
google avatar

F D.

Yelp
I only write reviews when, after having high expectations, the experience is disappointing. Slow service, food is not exciting enough to go out for. Then it's also not really cheap.

Yelp
Nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main center of the city and sneak away to this quieter residential neighborhood for a nice meal. The decor is semi-rustic and dimly lit, but the large open kitchen is a nicely setup contrast. When seated they'll ask if you want a drink, but don't provide a drink menu so know what you want or take one of the few suggestions from the waitress (we actually did, a nice rose champagne to start...); from there we waited quite a bit to place orders, seemed like our waitress was spread thin over many tables - this seemed more common in our time in Amsterdam (slower service) and not particular to this spot. As for the food, really nice! We had the beef tartare (very good), pumpkin ravioli (amazing, big portion), and a white fish which was okay but cannot recall the type. I won't be back in town soon, but would recommend to someone traveling to Amsterdam.

Yelp
30-12-17 Yesterday I had dinner at the 'de wilde zwijnen' in Amsterdam. Normally one of my favourite place, whenever good dinner, nice service (which is utterly seldom in Amsterdam, due to the ego of most waiter's and waitresses and no Chef or superior around to correct) and a real good meal should be guaranteed. Yesterday I ended up in a crowd of young people, who, when the evening progressed were as loud, that the whole atmosphere turned into a student club house. The climax was when two different groups began to sing and ending up singing against each other. Shouting in reaction to the song of the other group and so forth. Even after complaining about this really bad and very drunk behaviour, the staff excused itself for the group but did nothing about it. We simply could not understand a word. Conversation had to stop, we barely finished our drinks, and had to leave the place, which at that moment was totally ruled by the two groups, staggering and shouting and hugging throughout the whole place. cheers! Miss M.

Yelp
In a quiet residential area of Amsterdam is Wilde Zwijnen, a large restaurant lit with candles that give rise to soot stained walls, filled with locals. The food was as beautiful as flavorful. We started with sea bass barely pickled in salt and sugar with long beans and frisee, followed by a hearty veal sirloin and sausage accompanied by Romanesco broccoli, and a dessert of white asparagus ice cream and strawberries. The wine pairings were solid. Although the tempo of the courses was good, service was not reliably attentive. This was the only restaurant in the course of two week trip through Europe that charged a premium (1.4%) for using a credit card. Additionally, we purchased their tote with cash and were shorted in the exchange, that was corrected, so count your change! Still, we would likely return.

Yelp
Great food with an equally great staff. I had the chefs choice 4 course meal. I wanted to lick every plate they put in front of me, it was that good. I am definitely looking forward to dining there then next time I return to Amsterdam!

Yelp
Extremely trendy, Long standing local great. Food is fresh, Service is punctual and precise but friendly. The food is carefully crafted, well prepared but most importantly delicious.

Yelp
Food was lovely but not mind blowing. Averagt. For the price - I would probably go elsewhere. Lovely terrace.

Yelp
If you like great food and a very cool atmosphere (who doesn't?) go eat here. This place is absolutely great and consistently reliable as such.

Yelp
A really good "dutch" restaurant, not just a remake of French cousins, but actual dutch food. The stew was really good and the cheeses made me appreciate dutch cheeses! The wine was pretty pricey but definitively excellent. Service above average in Amsterdam, but still on the slow side...

Yelp
The best place for a great dinner with friends or date :). They are having a nice and always surprising daily menu, where you can choose for 3/4 or 5 courses (chef's choice). Fresh food, great atmosphere and really nice and friendly staff. I can definitely recommend this place for business, family, friends or a romantic night out!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent food that is totally worth it's premium price. However I wish the menu had a larger variety. I would still highly recommend this place especially for a romantic evening!

Yelp
This place was hopping for dinner. We came here on the advice of our lovely tour book and we were happy with the food. It didn't blow me away like some of the food I have had elsewhere, but it was prepared perfectly and the portions were just right. The staff was very kind and accommodating to us. They offered great suggestions and pairing advice for our meal. It was a bit more money than I would have liked for the food, but overall, not bad.
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
Food was delicious. This place is actually bigger than it looks on the outside. Go for the chefs choice that comes with 4 courses! You will never be disappointed.

Yelp
Overly hyped by the NY Times. It took over 35 minutes for our dessert to be served. Steamed vegetables as part of the main course-bland and unimaginative.

One of the best meals we had in Europe, which is tough with such amazing competition. Excellent and creative set menu. Will definitely come back on our next trip to Europe.

Yelp
We came for a very light lunch and shared a sandwich. It was very good on excellent bread! My husband also enjoyed his beer. We would definitely come again if we travel through again!
