Wilderness Magashi Camp

Maybe one of my the best experiences in my life. From the moment of arrival being greeted by song, to the stunning landscape with the hippos grunting their hello’s, and every member of the staff. I have to give a shoutout to our guide Innocent. What a wonderful man, he knows his animals, he knows the landscape and he knows how to make the experience fun and exhilarating. Some mentions of the staff, Samuel, the chef. What a genius. Every dish was perfect and fresh. He really cares about each plate. Fina, the manager, she was exceptional. I almost cried when saying good bye. Pascal the bartender was always kind and attentive. His drink creations were worthy of the highest end hotels in New York. Joy was another member of the staff who was always a Joy to see. Overall this was a perfect experience.

Wilderness Magashi Camp is in a lovely setting lakeside. It was great to be able to switch from game drive to boat safari giving lots of variety to the Akagera National Park experience. It was very peaceful drifting along the papyrus and reeds, the gentle ripple of water along with birdsong filling the air. At Camp, gazing at the lake with cocktail in hand was pretty special and at night we smiled listening to happy hippo grunts lulling us off to sleep. Our tent had everything we could have wished for, including a large sitting area with a gorgeous lake view. The common areas offer comfy seating and beautiful views.||
Returning from a drive we were always greeted with a damp facecloth and a little non-alcoholic refreshment along with great big staff smiles! A beloved expression we heard often was ‘I /we are here for you’. The food was very good and they were happy to adjust for allergies or dislikes—one of my alternatives was a Cashew Nut soup which was delicious!||We had the most amazing sweet surprise birthday celebration set up for us for a lakeside Sundowner—magical! Appetizers, bubbles, cake and singing. Murakoze cyane!||We saw the big 5 in a day and a half with Herman doing a great job of guiding us and another couple. The game drive vehicle was open air—very important to us for the best wildlife viewing! Magashi Camp was an ideal add-on to our gorilla trek from Wilderness Sabyinyo Lodge and we were lucky, at the time we booked, that Wilderness gave us a deal for a complimentary gorilla trek as we stayed for 7-nights with Wilderness in Rwanda. ||A big thank you to all the wonderful staff for the lovely stay!

My family of 5 spent 4 nights at Wilderness Magashi and had a wonderful time. Wilderness never disappoints and Magshi was no exception. The team at the camp was outstanding. Our guide Innocent was the best we've had in Africa. His night drive skills were superlative, his knowledge of the animals excellent, and he went out of his way to make sure we saw everything we were hoping to see. We saw the Big 5 on our trip, but what made the experience so memorable is how we saw them -- a leopard on a night drive that we tracked through the bush; a herd of elephants within feet of the vehicle on the path and on both sides of the path; a lion with a kill at night and then the next morning lounging nearby with a mate. What makes Magashi so unique is seeing the animals from the lake -- dozens of hippo out of the water, including a mother with her new born; huge crocs; and large herds of buffalo. This has to be the hippo capital of Africa. Innocent was terrific at shuttling us around the lake on the boat. In addition to the animals, the food was great, as were the sundowner experiences in the bush. The tents are very nice -- true glamping -- although fair warning, it can get hot inside during the day and a bit noisy at night as the tents are lakeside with the hippos and buffalo move about. That just added to the atmosphere for us -- you really feel like you are on safari!

An extraordinary experience. The hotel offered exceptional comfort and hospitality, with beautifully maintained spaces and impeccable service thank you to all the staff with always a beautiful smile like Joy in the morning. The game drive was magical—stunning landscapes, incredible wildlife sightings, and a guide truly passionate about nature Herman NKUS. A journey we will remember forever.

What an amazing place. No words can describe the caring, pampering and professional hospitality, fantastic food, amazing game drives (thank you HERMAN!!), wonderful accomodation and most of all the team that makes this all possible. We stayed 3 nights at Wilderness Magashi. A wonderful experience. On a practical level, as a guest you get to access an area of the park reserved for them (the 'concession' area) which while not large means you do feel alone in the wilderness (the Magashi lodge only accommodates 16 guests). Additionally, as you stay inside the park, you can do the early morning, evening and night game drives that day trippers cannot. Plus Magashi is in the north of the park (where there are higher concentrations of animals) and away from the main park lodge which is in the south. All day trippers enter viw the south gate and by the time they reach the Magashi area (around lunch time) you are back in the lodge for lunch and a siesta after the morning 4 hour drive. Consequently apart from the odd Magashi guest we never saw anyone else - just loads of wonderful wildlife. Magashi on the lake also includes boat drives - great for hippo and croc spotting and sunsets to die for. So well worth the expense.|The lodge was everything you would expect from a high end lodge. Very friendly and attentive staff, great food, a small pool and amazing rooms. It is not glamping - it is 5 star rooms only with canvas as a shell. The food, service and atmosphere (eg fire pit by the lakeside) all add to the experience. You get your own 4x4 and driver/tracker - Assi was ours and was brilliant. We had amazing encounters with lions (day and night) and a large herd of elephants. Variety of wildlife/bird life was good. Overall, a wonderful experience.

An amazing tented experience which we couldn’t fault|From the moment Innocent, our guide, met us at the park gates everything was perfect|Innocent delivered the most fantastic game drives and we got to see 4 of the big 5 Only missing the leopard. The boat safari was a particular highlight and we saw an amazing elephant from the water. Plus masses of hippos!|The tent is wonderful and the bed so comfy. The noises from the hippos give a real authentic touch!|Food and drink are excellent as are all of the staff who can’t do enough to help|A definite must do as part of a trip to Rwanda. Don’t just do the chimps and gorillas!
