"With four indoor water parks, the Wilderness Resort is another fan favorite among families." - Travel + Leisure Editors

13 Best Spring Break Ideas for Families

We’ve stayed at Wilderness condos for two years in a row now. The accommodations are clean and convenient, and perfect for our extended family of 6 adults and 4 young kids. The shuttles are a great way to get around the resort and we used them multiple times a day. The water parks are well maintained and clean also. There’s plenty of lifeguards to keep watch of all the water areas; we always felt our kids were safe. The spa is amazing…I’ve been two years now and it’s the best way to sneak away from the kids for a few hours! We look forward to coming back next year.

So much fun. Great place for our family reunion. So many upgrades since we last visited. The water was warm, shuttles were prompt and the drivers fun. Something for everyone of our 29 person group to do from 1 to 69!!! Thanks for such a great experience.

Went here for a weekend to celebrate my best friends bachelor party. Room was nice and fit all five of us although it was hot (it was 90+ majority of the weekend to be fair). The swim up bar was nice but VERY expensive. There was so much to see that we didn’t even do. Will be back in the future to explore some more

We stayed at wilderness across the lake, it was a pretty sweet condo, big rooms, and a big jetted tub! It was clean, and bed sheets were soft! The waterparks are awesome!! I recommend spending the money and getting a cabana! That made it so worth it! It was a great time, you’re going to spend some money here though. Arcade’s, food, and drinks add up quickly. It was worth every penny for as much fun as our family had! Will go back again!

I am writing to express my profound disappointment with my recent stay at this hotel from June 8th to June 12th. I rarely write reviews, but my experience was so consistently negative that I felt compelled to share it.|Upon booking, I was informed that check-in was at 2:00 PM. However, upon arrival, I was told it was 4:00 PM. This initial miscommunication was frustrating. When we finally got into our room a little after 4:00 PM, we were met with a strong smell of cigarette smoke, and the sheets also carried this odor. Furthermore, the beds were uncleaned, and there was period blood on the toilet. To add to this, I was explicitly told I would receive a late check-out, which turned out to be untrue. This entire series of events was a significant strike against my experience.|My disappointment continued with the water parks. It seems that your water parks are at least three miles apart, making walking between them highly inconvenient. While the water slides themselves were enjoyable, I was surprised by the strict rules: being weighed before going down slides (presumably to ensure guests aren't "too fat"), and the prohibition of swim shoes and waterproof phone bags on the slides. This significantly impacted our enjoyment and felt unnecessarily restrictive.|Finally, a major reason for our visit was the water park attractions, and I purchased the unlimited fun pass accordingly. Despite my children being at or above the typical height limits for such rides, your posted height requirements were incorrect, resulting in all my children being deemed too short for the attractions they were looking forward to. This rendered the unlimited fun pass a complete waste of money.|Given these numerous and significant issues, I absolutely do not recommend your hotel to anyone. I would advise potential guests to consider alternatives like Great Wolf Lodge for a much more enjoyable and truthful experience.

Okay, to preface...these pictures were taken AFTER our stay as we were leaving. The room was nice & neat prior to our arrival! Bed sheets were extremely clean, as seemed everything else! The service was very welcoming whether it was getting drinks, on water rides, help/front desks, and housekeeping. The location was great IF you plan on going somewhere local. There were plenty of entrances regardless where your room was. This made it very convenient regardless of where your room was assigned. There was plenty of parking available as well. The waterparks are so neat! Most of them are geared towards children, but there is still more than enough for adults to enjoy themselves. The paths between parks are very convenient. If you prefer, you can wait for large golf cartThis may be my absolute favorite hotel now! I included a picture of a cute pottery place near our room that seemed to be open everyday. I believe it may have even been free. The only problem I ran into is that they said they had starbucks at the coffee places, however at 11 15 A.M., they would only sell regular coffee. No specialty ones. Otherwise, perfect 10/10

This is a VERY clean and charming resort. Set in the heart of nature with beautiful very large white pine and other trees this resort feels like we are deep of a beautiful forest. The many species of birds sing while deer walk through the woods. The resort is maintained very well and has a very wide variety of options for fun and relaxation. This place is very family friendly. The banquet food was top notch all week. HIGH

It is lovely to find a destination where everyone can enjoy themselves. The staff truly went above and beyond to make the experience memorable. The prices were also very reasonable for the quality of the offerings. All things considered, it is a wonderful place and we will back...

Yelp
We stayed at the resort for a hockey tournament over the weekend and my son left something in the room that he has had since he was a baby. He was distraught and VERY upset that the item was left behind and since we live out of state we thought it was gone forever. After calling the lost and found we found out that they had located the item and offered to mail it back to us! THEY HAVE SAVED THE DAY AND MANY TEARS!!!!! I cannot thank them enough for this and cannot explain how amazing it is that they even offered to mail the item back to us. In the future this will be forever our first choice for lodging!!!!!!!!!!! HIGHLY recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
We did a 2 night family stay at the Wilderness, and overall had a very nice time! The resort is huge and there is lots to do. I think this is especially nice for the colder months. We enjoyed access to several water parks and arcades and indoor mini golf. Here are some not so great things: 1. Others have pointed out that it's difficult to find places within the resort. The attraction names are here to remember/keep track of and the arrows throughout the resort do not offer much help 2. We were here in April, so I get it's not peak season but we didn't like that only 1 water park was open per day and most of the on-site eatery's were closed for our whole stay. 3. There is a shuttle that can take you to some of the associated restaurants. You use the room phone to request it and then 2 minutes later the shuttle is supposed to arrive at the door. We did this and waited for at least 15 min, several shuttles drive right past us but either drive around the parking lot or went to other doors. It was confusing and frustrating and we ended up driving ourselves. 4. While the room is nice overall, the air conditioning unit is super loud and kicks in all the time which kept waking me up. 5. Finally, the pillows were the absolute worst! It felt like the pillows were filled with chopped up foam. Glad we live in driving distance so I can pack my own pillows next time! All-in-all we had a nice time, I think if we come back next time we will try staying the cottages where you have a full kitchen, so there wasn't much good food around/ in the resort.

Yelp
It was my first time back at the Wilderness Resort in about 4 years - and it was a pretty fun time! They recently remodeled their rooms and hallways - the carpets and walls are different, as are their beds. It looks a lot more corporate now, and lost some of its "wild" theming but it still looks pretty nice to be honest. The water park layout is the same - there are 4 indoor Waterparks (and multiple outdoor ones open after Memorial Day) - one of the indoor water parks (the Wilderness on the Lake Waterpark) you must take the blue bus shuttle over to - they run every 10-20 minutes and are free for resort guests. They added another swim up bar in their Wild West Waterpark (also remodeled) which is great - it looks really nice! The black hole water ride in the Wild West water park is my favorite ride there it's very fun. Overall, I'd give Wilderness 4 stars, it's really nice and a lot of fun. Also as a P.S - after you check in, the employee will give you a coupon book and then send you to the "Wyndham Experiences" desk at the front in the corner of the New Frontier lobby - they are basically trying to sell you timeshares vacations, avoid them and do not take their tours. They told me a $2,000 vacation would be $50 if I took one of their tours and booked with them....unrealistic, no thanks! It's

Yelp
When we first arrived, our room wasn't ready just yet. Staff is SO friendly. Housekeeping is amazing! When you first wake up, do dry stuff first in the Resort then enjoy the waterparks, it makes for a more enjoyable experience and optimizes day time. The indoor waterparks are very humid. Wristbands are neat they can be used at the consession stands and all places in the park to make purchases, great for teens to slip off and grab a milkshake without losing your card. Don't waste your time bringing a towels you get towel cards and using the resorts means less you have to carry. Bring a wagon to carry all of your things for you. You will do a ton of walking. Utilize the shuttle bus, it will take you to all the different waterparks & the restaurants on site. Bring a robe for in-between parks. Hallways are very hot. No air conditioning in hallways. Pack breakfast and lunch eating at the resort is ridiculously expensive. We took a small cooler with drinks & snacks to all the waterparks. Sunscreen, don't forget sunscreen & apply it often! Water shoes are a must have, the wave pool will shred your feet. Take a shower at the end of each day, the salt water will dry your skin out. Stay for at least 3 nights anything less is not enough time to do everything. We stayed for 6. Get the unlimited bands if you're staying at least 3 nights or more, other wise it's a waste of money & you won't have time anyways. The pottery place is extremely expensive. It takes 2 days to get your pottery back, prepare for that. Drive off the resort for food, it does not take much time and it saves lots of money. When you buy a locker it is interchangeable and you can use a locker at each water park you go to. Be a tourist, use coupons in the resort get out & visit places. Wisconsin beautiful.

Yelp
We spent a week at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Here's a quick review and some important things you should know before going... The Wilderness is an amazing resort SPECIFICALLY GEARED TOWARD YOUNGER KIDS and families (13 yrs and under). Think, midwest Disneyland, but a waterpark version of it-- ideal for a quick one-stop getaway or best during brutal winters when you don't want to step outside. ~~~ PROS: - Access to all 8-something indoor and outdoor waterparks. The Waterdome wave-pool and the newest WildWest water-park were our family's go-to favs. - Updated bedrooms, with a convenient outdoor deck and separate eating areas. (Note: Most WisDells hotel rooms are 'old,' Wilderness had one of the most recent remodels.) - Shoutout to all the amazing indoor non-water activities (Polka-Dot-Pots, Arcades, Go-Carts, Kid-zone, Golf, Lasertag, Takeflight) - Because the resort is huge, you will always be able to find a seat/chair no matter which waterpark you go to. (*Note, we went off-peak) ~~~ CONS: - Inconsistent Wifi: Although wifi was free, it kept disconnecting, and you'd have to reconnect every time you got back on your device. There's poor wifi/cell reception on the skywalk going from Wilderness Resort to Lost World/ Glacier Canyon Lodge. - Resort Prices: Everything within the resort is overpriced, so if you don't have access to a car, or internet, be prepared to pay EXTRA for simple things. Some places DO NOT list their prices--so remember to ask before purchasing. - Resort Food is Glum: Limited to no access to fresh fruit or veg, again this place is geared toward kids, so there are lots of burgers, fries, pizza, cheese curds, and kraft mac. The breakfast buffet is sub-par with very few and limited options, not recommended. - Language/Communication Barrier: A majority of the front-side workers (including the front desk) were international students or those on a work-visa, English is not their first language. Be patient. ~~~ IMPORTANT THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW: - Better Places To Eat: *Molly's Shake Shoppe for milkshakes ($15), *Mama Tiger for something (a bit) healthy ($16), *Klondike Pizza for a whole pizza ($22), *Coffee Canteen for coffee ($4+) and pastries ($5+), and *Swimming Chicken for fried chicken ($15) and cheese curds ($15). - Walking Time: It takes about 1.5 hours of non-stop walking, end-to-end throughout the entire resort, to visit every indoor/outdoor pool, restaurant, and convenience shop. If you have a little one, best to bring a stroller or a wagon, it's a lot of walking. - Navigation: The whole resort is accessible via the second floor. You can get anywhere if you stay on that level. With that said, it's best to avoid rooms on the second floor, it gets loud and busy. - Amenities: Unless you want to pay $4 for water/soda, it's best to bring your own refillable water bottle, there are water fountains located everywhere. The same can be said for snacks and food. ~~~ 3.75/5 Stars: For young kids, this is an ideal getaway! Not much to do here for adults, other than making family memories. Isn't that what vacation is about?

Yelp
Most favorite water park and resort in the Dells! There is so much to explore and relax even a swim up bar for the adults! Love that they give you towels when you buy a day pass. This is definitely a plus compared to others. Staff is friendly and helpful and there is ample parking as well as shuttle services to and from other wings of the resort. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This is my fifth time staying at the Wilderness, and while I typically have a great experience, this visit was extremely disappointing. We encountered several instances of poor customer service and insulting behavior from the staff. This trip was meant to be special for my family and me, as we decided to spend our New Year's here instead of hosting our usual celebration. From the start, there were issues with my reservation. They added my middle initial to my name, making it difficult to look up my reservation online. The staff kept telling me the system was offline for over a week when, in reality, the issue was with my name. Despite requesting a correction, nothing was done. When I booked another room for additional family members, it was correct in the system but had to be looked up separately due to the name discrepancy. This was inconvenient but manageable. On the positive side, my room was ready ahead of time, and I was able to check in early, which was a plus. However, the check-in process was frustrating. The associate argued that I only had one room instead of two, despite providing the confirmation numbers. The associate disappeared for almost 10 minutes, claiming to get New Year's tickets, which were actually right behind them. This lengthy process almost negated the benefit of early check-in, despite completing it online the day before. Finding a luggage cart was challenging both during check-in and check-out. I had to walk all over the hotel, and several other guests experienced the same issue. This was extremely disappointing. We had dinner at the Fields steakhouse, and initially, we were pleased with the quick seating of our large party in a secluded area. However, the original server was frustrated and unkind when we asked questions during the order. She even talked negatively about us to a coworker, which was disturbing. They were also missing the kids' steaks and three other items, informing us of one only after we ordered. They offered more expensive alternatives without honoring the original price. Although the server apologized after speaking to a manager, nothing else was done to rectify the situation. We also purchased tickets for the inflight experience, which was awesome, but we were insulted by the staff there. We wanted the space flight and stated that, but we were placed in the Rudolph line. When we pointed out the mistake, the staff member talked to a coworker and blamed us, calling us stupid. When confronted, she denied it and accused us of lying, which was very insulting and inappropriate for my children to witness. Despite raising this issue with two managers, nothing significant was done aside from blaming the staff's busyness. We waited in line for almost 20 minutes initially and another 20 minutes to get into the correct line. This delay caused issues as my wife, watching our 2-year-old niece, had to wait longer. While we enjoyed the waterparks and amenities, the horrible customer service and insulting behavior from the staff overshadowed our experience. This may be our last trip to the Wilderness, which is unfortunate as we really enjoyed the resort and its offerings.

Yelp
Just got back after a 3-day stay, and I can't believe how rapidly this place has declined. This is our 4th year in a row, and it's almost shocking how much worse it gets each time. Day one was passable--we didn't do much beyond the wave pool. Day two was slightly better as we spent most of it on the Wild West side, avoiding the disaster the main areas have become. But even then, the wave pool was marred by people selfishly throwing balls, hogging space as if the overcrowding wasn't bad enough already. By day three, I was done. We ventured to Lost World, Lake Wilderness Outdoor Park, and Wilderwoods Arcade and Go Karts, and it was the most aggravating experience yet. Lost World was packed to the brim, and again, inconsiderate families monopolized the pool with their ball-throwing antics. Do these people ever think of anyone but themselves? It's infuriating, but I guess that's just the environment here now. Then there's the Wilderness Outdoor Park, a small circular pool where lifeguards seemingly ignore their jobs. We watched in disbelief as about 20 people with slide tubes clogged up half the pool, turning it into a chaotic standstill. And the arcade--don't even get me started. What used to be fun has now turned dangerous, with teenagers slamming into guests on the go-karts, including my wife and daughter, while the attendants stood by, indifferent. My wife ended up with a splitting headache from the whole ordeal. As for the food? Appalling. Everything tasted like it had been sitting out for days, especially at Swim'n Chick'n. And the cherry on top of this nightmare? A cockroach in one of the cupboards as we packed up to leave on Monday morning. To make matters worse, trying to communicate with the staff was an exercise in frustration. Their accents were so thick that placing a simple order required repeating ourselves multiple times. Four years ago, I would have rated this place 4 out of 5 stars--it was a cut above Kalahari and Great Wolf Lodge. Now? It's a complete disaster. With the way they're cutting corners, I don't see it improving anytime soon. But hey, at least the cockroaches will have a cozy place to call home.

Yelp
We stayed here for my middle child's birthday, I LOVE IT! It's clean, Staff was so nice, I would DEFINITELY stay here! They have a piggy bank painting area, LOTS of water parks, Will come back next time we go here!

Jason H.

Yelp
Our room wasn't very clean. The resort itself is dirty. The breakfast is lower quality than a free continental breakfast at most hotels and it was $40 for myself and a 7 year old. The same bandaid floated past me three times yesterday. The staff is not helpful when asked questions, even simple questions about how to get to parts of the loosely titled "resort". The signage is misleading at check-in. You walk past broken air conditioners in the hallways and filth everywhere. I cannot believe I came from Ohio for this. Wanted to try something new and absolutely regret it. Looking forward to checking out tomorrow. I would never recommend this place.

Shareef Y.

Yelp
Typical poorly managed and over capacity park. Signs don't help in getting around and the map given at the front desk is even worse. The map is pretty much an ad for all the local businesses. Staff is useless and just tell you they're over capacity and to deal with it. At least offer a credit! Literally had to pull a trolley into the hallway outside the waterpark and use that as a bench. Pathetic. The worst thing about this place is that it's 2023 and they don't have any decent internet. Not in the lobby, water park, OR rooms. Anywhere I go their wifi doesn't work. Support pretty much says the same excuse, they're over capacity. If you have a capacity, why book beyond that!? Oh wait, GREED!!!

Rachelle C.

Yelp
Just had a mini staycation at the wilderness. It was the kids first time in the Dells. This is definitely the time of year to go. In May before Memorial Day during the week. Everything was clean. The room was very spacious. Im really glad we had a positive experience. Only downfall of this time of year is not everything is open yet or it's open on rotation but I would take that over crazy crowds!

Nick P.

Yelp
I didn't have any issues with customer service or employees. Staff was amazing. Tons of kids in the hallways. i think the best time to go to Wisconsin Dells would have to be like January when it's cold and kids are back in school. Our room was clean. Walls were paper thin. Other than that, a lot of different activities and 3 indoor water parks.

Paige H.

Yelp
A sudden unexpected pipe or plumbing problem in our room when we were gone for the day. The room flooded (unknown to us). Here's where it gets interesting: they thought it was OK to just not let us know. For us to just arrive back that night to the mess. Belongings got wet with flooded toilet water and the maintenance worker said the room was "like a lake" (direct quote). We returned for bed with a baby and young child at 9PM and walked into a soaking wet room w/wet towels everywhere. The resolution? Move us to a new room, same size, with a less convenient location that doesn't have direct access to the water park. No real apology or explanation. Baby mattress we had brought for our baby to sleep on was soaked in what we later found out was toilet water (we bring something custom for him to sleep on, due to spinal surgery I am unable to use a crib). I was transferred to manager Josh Z. I explained that we booked through Wilderness instead of a timeshare because a very nice manager named Clint had explained that unfortunately one of the disadvantages when booking it through a timeshare is there is no emergency backup plan if something (like this) happens. Josh says they are fully booked and if we switch to that room, then they need to put new people coming in tomorrow in our water damaged room. I was pretty surprised to hear that, considering its water damage - especially in carpets and deep into floors. Josh told me that it was not my place and to let them handle it. It is my place because if we leave, then we are giving someone else a dirty flooded potentially unhealthy room to be in for their entire stay, and as a human being who cares about others, I don't want that for someone. He said there was no way they knew our room flooded because they would "never under any circumstance enter our room without permission." Shortly after, maintenance arrived and now the 3 of us are talking. Maintenance says they were told about flooding in the hallway and put a fan out and then * let himself * into our room and discovered the toilet had completely overflowed and the whole place was "like a lake" (exact quote). I (naturally) ask the maintenance person if he told anyone that there was a flood and let anybody know? Trying to get some clarity here. Josh them said to me (exact quote), "M'am it's not your place to discipline our employees." I reminded Josh that I simply asked him a question, since no one else is asking questions. Josh escalates to Brian, who is calm and respectful. It's now 10:30 PM. We've got young kids. It's taking hours to get this straightened out, find a place for the baby to sleep, get everybody rearranged, pack and move, unpack, get resettled into a new room after moving everything over ourselves... and the kids are going to get to bed at an extremely late time. We now cancel our plans for the morning. It's a domino effect that lasts at least a couple days with trying to get them back on schedule. They offer to deduct the charge for this 1 single night of our trip. At the risk of stating the obvious, I'm going to state the obvious: I think that would go without saying, right? When I mentioned it seemed like a bit of an odd solution in terms of hospitality, the resort manager responded by saying well, what are you looking for? I said to be honest, it's kind of odd to even have to ask a customer what they are looking for in this situation. I'd hope they'd go out of their way to make sure the person felt valued, taken care of, and made to feel welcome and cared for in a way where the customer would never even be questioning what they are looking for. We are not looking for handouts, but even just the offer of something to make us feel valued could have gone a long way. This is the "hospitality" business. Blankets for our baby to sleep on the floor took another hour. New room with multiple little blood spots on the sheets. Little blood... clumps? When I told resort manager Brian and asked for new sheets, his response was, "I'll get that addressed." Thats it. After another full hour, we get sheets. The pillowcases are damp, so we went back to our old room and got our old pillowcases. New room has NO toilet paper at all. The dresser drawer is broken. In hospitality, do you really want the manager saying, "Well, what are you looking for?" Or do you want them to just maybe come up with something since that's literally their specialty and make you feel like you matter and feel valued as a customer. I understand that mistakes happen, but the most important thing is how they are handled. Unfortunately, everything about this is very concerning. It's my responsibility as a customer and as a caring human being to let you know that you could be stuck in a situation like we are. In room 2038 they still don't even have a fan going or anything in there and water has been soaking into the floor and carpet for hours. I hope no one else has to experience this.

Rebecca T.

Yelp
Sprawling grounds but the parks were pretty monotonous. Everything was very much geared towards younger children, at best maybe middle schoolers. We were here for a family vacation made up of adults, so it was a bit of a bummer to realize that despite the huge property and the multiple parks, most of it was just not for us. Food was overpriced, cold, and mediocre. Overall felt very touristy in a bad way. Will be trying Noah's Ark next time instead. This is a great park imo if you have small(er) children, but for older teens and adults this will be a huge miss. The food was also absolutely overpriced, like with most things here. It was kept in a warming station but was ice cold. $10 for a small basket of cold fries and a water bottle, and another $10 for a funnel cake (singular)! Really disappointing. Service was generally okay, minus the sadly not infrequent snippiness. I got the feeling the workers were not happy to be there either. For nearly $160 per ticket, I feel a bit stilted. I'd recommend trying another park instead if you have anyone over 13-15yo in your group.

Yelp
Haven't been to the dells in awhile. On a road trip with my husband I decided to stay here for a night. I've never stayed at the wilderness before but have stayed at many other resorts in the area. I was disappointed to say the least. Waited 20 mins to check in which wasn't a big deal. There was only one staff working check in which seemed strange considering we were checking in around 5:30. Our room was a major miss. For the price I paid I expected more. Felt like a run down motel 8. Beds and pillows were the worst I've experience in a long time. Cockroaches were running under maid carts. The bathroom door was rusted. It looks like they had gone under renovation recently but unfortunately it seems it was just cosmetic. The water parks were fun. Only 2/4 of the water parks were open when we stayed. Noise from the hallway and other rooms both next to us and above us was very loud. Would I stay here again? No. There's many other options to stay at the dells. For over $200 a night you can stay elsewhere.

Yelp
$1400/night to find BLOOD ON THE WALLS!!! This place was a disaster. $2800 for 2 nights. After everyone arrived and was settling in we noticed one of the bathrooms had blood on the walls and what looked like someone's initials written in it. One of the outlets was falling out of the wall. Not a loose faceplate, the entire box was falling out. Not what you want to see in a room with a toddler sleeping in it. Knobs were falling off the kitchen cabinets. Burns on the carpet in what's supposed to be a non-smoking room. Lamp shades had holes in them. The kitchen ceiling was starting to fall apart from water damage from the bathroom above it. The couch was falling apart and had a giant hole in it. This is place is what you expect to find for $59/night in the middle of nowhere with Norman Bates at the checkout counter. At least housekeeping came within an hour of calling about the blood stains and cleaned that up. We then spent the next two nights uncomfortable, grossed out, and wondering what horror we'd find next. The next morning after checking in I went to the front desk to complain and was told they'd waive the $100 late for the late checkout I'd requested. When I asked for a manager (That refused to come talk to me in person) the staff member came back and said they'd give me an extra $100 for the blood stained walls in the bathroom. So $200 off of a $2800 slum. Avoid this place at all costs. There's plenty of nice places to stay in the area

Samantha D.

Yelp
This place is way more chaotic than Mount Olympus. More crowded, with less to do. The water slides are cute but short. The food is extremely overpriced and bordering inedible. But the real kicker was the employee (with good intentions) squirting the kids with a water gun as they dismounted from the slides. He was swinging the gun around, not paying attention, and smacked my daughter in the forehead so hard it left a welt. She has some sensory issues and it's really upset her. I know they guy meant no harm, but my kiddo got hurt. While we plan to make the dells a yearly trip, this will not be on the list next year. Way overpriced for mediocre (and painful) fun. To boot, there was just poop floating in the pool, but hey picked it up and walked away (after about 10 minutes). So gross. Just so gross.

Jackie G.

Yelp
I'll give you the short version - we will not be back. Here's the detailed version. We go to the Dells every winter with our little girls. We always go to Kalahari but it is under construction so we decided to try Wilderness. Every single thing was subpar to Kalahari. 1. My husband checked us in. The staff at the front desk were giggling so hard to each other that he couldn't get anyone to direct him where to go. 2. We got to the room and I looked for shampoo & conditioner and found the one pictured here. It's a COMBINED shampoo/conditioner, and it was just one tiny one the size of my chapstick. For a family of four with long hair. I went to the front desk to ask for at least 8 more. For what we paid for a suite, this was pretty sad. It became the joke of the weekend. 3. The waterpark is con.fus.ing. Wave pool in one room, then we had to hike our two little ones out in a cold hallway to get to the room with the kid slides. There's another area that has a much better indoor waterpark but it's a 10-minute walk from the other water areas. Not a single swimming pool or hot tub for the kids. The lazy river was tiny and packed. Missed Great Wolf & Kalahari so much. 4. At Kalahari our kids love the slushy machine and you can get them in refillable plastic cups. So we see refillable plastic cups at Wilderness and start filling it with slushy and a worker comes running up shouting "YOU CAN'T DO THAT! THOSE ARE ONLY FOR SODA!" My daughter started bawling because she thought she was in big trouble. They then told us in order to leave the store with it, we had to pay for BOTH the plastic cup and the slushy, which combined was $24. For each one. 5. The next restaurant we went into, the lady in front of us gave them her room number, and it didn't come up. She was like we have been here all week and we are here two more nights. The worker had no clue what to do. Finally the lady said, "....can I just pay with a credit card?" Clearly these employees are trained in telling people what they cannot do instead of problem-solving to HELP the customer. I could go on. The pizza was terrible, the chicken wasn't great. There was ONE breakfast option for an entire hotel and you had to all wait in one snaking line to pay before you could go in. The constant traffic line of people in the hallways was exhausting. The kids room was really beautiful but they upcharged every single activity. But mostly I can't get over the poor management/training and those tiny mini baby shampoos.

Yelp
I was recommended this establishment by both of my brothers as we would be taking a mini vacation with our families. It was difficult for a family of six to reserve a room, maximum occupancy being 4-5 per room unless you are willing to stay off site and far away at the start of lovely, wintry January. We typically do Chula Vista, as they are much more forgiving with their cancellation policy. However, I erroneously went with the crowd and booked. Everything looked like it would be a great time, albeit pricey. No special discounts to be had when we decided to go! $800 for two basic rooms for two nights during the week. Wow. The worst being when apparently my brothers found a better deal nearby. Penalty of $30 per room when cancelling, because I like to throw away money when I give over a month and a half notice. With a policy like that, who wants to come here?

Yelp
My family and I had an all around great vacation when we stayed at the Wilderness Resort this weekend, but I have to say that I am very disappointed in the lack of upkeep of the toddler friendly areas. There were slides that are old and have all of the anti-slip coating worn off the steps, slides with large chunks missing from the slide, and entire toddler pools with the ground crumbling. They have done a great job of maintaining the larger attractions, I just hope the next time we visit the rest is in better condition.

Yelp
Located in Wisconsin Dells, this large hotel with indoor and outdoor parks has arcade games, food shops, mini golf, and an obstacle course. I didn't stay here but I enjoyed the water parks and mini golf. The water parks were hot and steamy with rides on the lazy river, tubing down water sides, and lots of splashing. The miniature golf was about $6 person with nine holes. This dark area was illuminated by glow in the dark paint and had an aquatic theme. This is definitely fun for kids.

Yelp
If you want -a waterpark with no cleaning staff to be found while garbage lies everywhere -a waterpark bathroom that smells like human excrement -waterpark slide stairs that smell like human excrement (Hurricane) -not enough space for you and your family to sit -staff that cannot adequately communicate with guests -extremely overpriced food -long wait times for drinks with ingredients out of stock Then you've found your place!!! P.s. lifeguards were good and lively

Yelp
As part of a Wisconsin college tour for our high school senior we stayed at four different hotels in four nights over the Minnesota MEA weekend. I'm writing four reviews that compare them all to one another. All four reviews have the same opening two paragraphs, and then a paragraph specific to each hotel. Night 1 was the Drury Plaza Hotel in Milwaukee - which ranked #1 of the 4, and grades out as an "A". Exceptional staff, free parking, and a nice breakfast. Night 2 was Home2Suites in Beloit - which ranked #3 of the 4, and would grade out as a C. Night 3 was the Hampton Inn & Suites Madison East Towne Mall Area in Madison, which was #2 of the 4, and grades out as an B-. Night 4 was the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells, which ranked #4 of the four, and grades out as a D. NEVER again. Check in took forever, and I was the only person in the whole lobby. When that process was over I was kidnapped by some sort of Wyndham sales team for an extended sales pitch (which was sort of nonsensical). I could feel the 13 year old, who had been a really good sport, losing his cool from the car, but they would not let me get away. That sales tactic is SO annoying. And, even though I declined everything they still called the room the next morning to pitch us again. This alone would make me say never again. What seals the deal are the bonus credit card charge that appeared on my credit card from the place I dropped $8 ($8!!) on an Icee for the kid. They added a second charge of $23, which I did not make. The chaos in the hallway, combined with the paper thin walls made sleeping hard. No outlets on my side of the bed. And while I appreciate the sink being outside of the bathroom for time saving, it makes that interior bathroom door handle pretty disgusting if you think about it. Finally, check out staff were flat out rude, giving me the biggest "duh" in their voice when they told me check out was automated. The 13 year old had a killer time in the water park, but we'll never come back here again.

Yelp
Had a great time at the water parks at the hotel with my friends, but can't stop thinking about the beautiful saltwater fish in the golf room! Those guys could really benefit from some live plants or some wood to hide in. So much space and so many gorgeous fish feels like wasted potential. There was also a very ill blue tang that definitely needed to be isolated and treated. Would be so cool if the different species within the tanks were labeled too! One tank was even vandalized to say "please do tap the glass". Fish deserve better.

Yelp
Second time back to Wisconsin Dells in six years. I was so incredibly disappointed with the first experience, Mount Olympus, I swore I would never return. However, I discovered that it really just matters where one stays, it makes a world of difference. The Wilderness Resort is a cut above their competitors in all facets, from customer service, accommodations, attractions, on site food and retail. Honestly , I had such a good time that I really want to go again in the near future. Choose this location, they do it right.

Yelp
What a great place to make memories! Around this time of year is the best. The lines for the water rides are not long at all. Some crazy parties in the condos...hey I was there once upon a time. It's about the kids for me nowadays and them enjoying themselves. If you have kids ages 3-8 they will never get tired of the water fun. Take note that there is a lot of walking between water parks and rooms depending on where you decide to stay. The two and three bedroom condos do families justice because of the washer and dryer along with a full kitchen to make your own meals...cuts cost! Definitely going back for more next year!

Yelp
Wilderness and Kalahari are the two top dogs in the Dells, both are good choices but Wilderness for me was superior. Take flight was really too

Lorenzo H.

Yelp
I didn't see a way to review the TAKE FLIGHT ride so i'll leave the review here.. You know what... i didn't know what to expect but i thought it was ok. It's no Universal Studios but it was a nice 10-15 minute experience. The first 6 minutes is a video only before you go to the ride. Probably better if you bring children, they'll love it. Better oi you place all person items and shoes in the bins provided, you will be moved around a bit in the seat. We did the Polar express ride and it was pretty cool. Not bad to try at least once. $10-$12 bucks would be a more inviting price.

Jessica B.

Yelp
I had a blast with my children and grandchild. Seeing the joy on my grandsons face was awesome. I have to say that I do believe that the employees need to get some experience on how to treat the guests. I did have one employee that helped me find my way. I went to her manager and gave her a compliment. Another thing I want to bring up is that I called and asked for my room to be cleaned and they never came.

Corene S.

Yelp
Outdated rooms. Upon arrival the refrigerator wasn't working. The heating/cooling unit is rattling due to part of the unit being damaged. Extremely noisy with people partying in the hall and rooms open. We are here for a sports tournament and have early mornings and there is no way anyone can get sleep here. Walls and ceilings are not sound proof. It is quite unruly here.

Gennie L.

Yelp
i came to wilderness resort with me family and we had a great time! they have indoor and outdoor water parks, but we spent the most time at the klondike kavern. there's a lazy river, tornado water slide and a few others for individual and group riders. the water park itself isn't that big. there's a bunch of tables surrounding the lazy river on the lower and upper level. it's not the cleanest i have to admit, but it's decent for a water park. there's also shops where you can get alcoholic drinks, food, and snacks. overall rating: 7/10

Erinn P.

Yelp
If I could give this 0 stars I would. I would not ever recommend bringing your family to this resort. The staffs lack of action resulted in an unsafe experience and when confronted about it, they shift the blame onto their guests and do not take responsibility. Attached is an email I sent to their managers explaining our negative experience and requesting a refund for our 1-day pass to their waterpark. I sent it to two different emails and neither responded back to me. My friend who accompanied me at the waterpark had emailed the same email displayed in the pictures a week prior and they had responded back stating "there was not enough camera coverage in the stairwell" and "we should have gotten a staff member". When she continued fighting in her latest email she asked to be refunded in which they then ghosted her as well hence why I sent an email then after. Please read my email below on why you should NEVER go to this resort.

Kyle T.

Yelp
We visited this resort in late August 2023. This resort is absolutely beautiful. It is very well decorated. It is very nicely designed. All of the water parks were very fun.

Lilly J.

Yelp
The water parks and slides were great. The staff was really nice. But it was packed the weekend we went. It sucked. My ma got bed bug bites. There were kids kicking and splashing in the lazy river. Me and my sister got FLIPPED out of our tube because kids were kicking it and eventually put their hands on our tube and LITERALLY FLIPPED ME AND MY 5 YEAR OLD SISTER OUT OF OUR TUBE. Life guards didn't do ANYTHING about it but they were nice enough to say don't do that. Staff was nice but barley did anything about kids breaking the rules. Not cool and just sad.

Sashie M.

Yelp
I love the Wilderness Resort Zip Lining Adventure! I took my 82 yo grandma because she wanted to try zip lining for the first time. She had a BLAST! The workers, Yera & Patrick were fantastic and super friendly. They made sure we were secured and safe. I would recommend it for any age! You will not regret it and you can't beat the price.

Yelp
We stayed here last summer and planning another trip reminded me to update my review. Rooms were nice and very comfortable. But the highlight as always is the waterparks. The kids weren't so much interested in slides, though I rode as many as possible and loved it! The girls loved the wave pool in the wild waterdome. That's by far my daughter's favorite spot here. The new lobby is nice, but I miss the vibe of the old lobby. It seemed more themed then, and I love being completely immersed in the experience when I'm at a themed motel. The food was great! We stopped at one of the bars for some lunch one day and while the fried cheese curds don't come coated in buffalo sauce anymore, I was able to get some buffalo sauce on the side and just dipped them myself. So good. It is a tad pricy, so plan on spending a bit. The girls also enjoyed the arcade. They both tried the ropes course. Our daughter (8) insisted on going by herself, so up she went with an attendant. She was doing great, but at some point got scared and the young man who was helping her was great at getting her back to the platform quickly. The girls at the platform also reassured her she had done a great job and let her know she was safe as the undid the harness. I really appreciated that. Once she was ready to go, we gave her a big hug and by the time we got to the candy shop for a caramel apple, she was fine. I'm sure when we come back, she'll want to give it another try. The kids also loved the indoor playground. There's so many activities that we didn't have time to do everything, but we definitely had a blast doing everything we did! This is one of my favorite resorts in the Dells. Looking forward to our next stay!

James K.

Yelp
Probably the best resort in the Dells. Altough on our most recent trip, our room wasnt ready on time. I had to call the front desk at 3:30 when they said it'd be ready at 3. The cocktails are really good, although expensive and not very strong. Taking the empty cup back to your room and making your own cocktail can definitely save you some money. The new slides in the Wild West are incredibly fun. Altough a couple have them have a maximum weight of 250lbs which could definitely limit some folks. Staff is usually friendly, beds are pretty comfortable, food inside the restaurants was surprisingly tasty. The arcades are really fun, the majority of the games are claw machines. It's easy to get caught up in them.

Mia L.

Yelp
I enjoyed my stay here at Wilderness resort. Plenty of indoor and outdoor water parks, i love a good adrenaline before a water slide, especially the one red drop slide at lost world! Plenty of things to do including arcades, stores, and my favorite, the camp social buffet. I love the food options here. This place has great themes, Wild West, Camping themed, and a bunch more! The resort connects to Glacier Canyon Lodge and the wilderness on the lake houses are right next to the resort but buoy connected to it. I stayed here for dance nationals and it was nice to not leave the hotel to get the the glacier canyon convention center. Anyway, the only bad thing abt this resort is that some of my friends have really bad asthma and they couldn't take the really bad heat in the indoor water parks.

A B.

Yelp
This place is a nightmare. There is a constant line of traffic in the hallways as the entire complex is interconnected. The problem is every room lines these hallways so if you want to get away for peace and quiet it is a non stop train of people going from one park to the next. Prepare for no sleep at all. Someone staying in the hotel with us said it best, it's like trying to sleep at woodfield mall. Food is way overpriced and staff is not very attentive.

Diane G.

Yelp
Grab your wallet. We spent over $200 on things, lunch, candy etc., and we haven't been to the water yet. This place thinks it's Disneyland...it's not. Staff is inexperienced and many couldn't speak English. Everyone tells you to go to website. Booked during Memorial Day special rates; later found out we were booked at higher rates bc we didn't ASK for the special. They also didn't tell us that the week after Memorial Day when we were staying was a "down" week and many things were not open or have limited hours. When I mentioned it to the manager, she said checking hours on the website before I come in was my responsibility-- they had no obligation to tell you when you book! Employees were not informed and couldn't answer even simple questions about pool or featured items at resort. Room decor is cheap. Best way to go: 1. reserve and ask for specials, 2. eat before you go there to avoid overpricing in resort, 3. Come to bring family to only water parks -- btw: all the good water slides are outside so go there in hot weather. 4. Go see 'In Flight'. An additional $15 per person but worth it. Not a first/timer friendly place so do your homework before you go. The idea that Wilderness Resort is all inclusive and that all is 'included' is not true. Management consists of Gen Z people who are inexperienced with people skills.

Patrick S.

Yelp
Great waterpark, but extremely loud hotel. Recommend staying somewhere else and go here during the day. Could not sleep too loud in hallways.

Penny D.

Yelp
The resort itself was ok. However, the hallways between the waterparks were extremely cold. My real issue with the Wyndham properties timeshare. They hit you up as soon as you check in. My boyfriend signed up for it. They ask for your credit card, stating that they charge $40 that will be credited when you attend the sales pitch. Their way of insuring that you show up. We showed, listened and after 2 hours, politely declined their offer. This was Saturday, 1/20/2024. The $40 charge posted on Tuesday1/23. No credit. I called Wyndham properties, 2 messages were never returned. Third time I got a live person, Taylor, who insured me that the credit was indeed put thru on the 20th and we should see it by Wednesday. It is now Friday 1/26. Still no credit has posted. My question is why charge the card in the first place. Wouldn't it make more sense to only charge it in the event of a no show? Wyndham has taken enough of my time, we will now refute the charges with the bank. Two years ago, we had our worst hotel experience at a Wyndham. Wyndham will never get our business again.

Yelp
Staying at the Wilderness Resort and our family loves the Wild Waterdome. At the Wild Waterdome our family enjoys renting a cabana each day so we have a place to store our things, regroup, order lunch, and just relax. Stayed at the condos again at Glacier Canyon Lodge which we loved. Lost World water park is our family favorite.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Normally I would give the Wilderness 5 stars. We've been going there every year for the last 14 years, but this year was completely different. On Saturday, July 6, 2024, we rented a cabana from the Wilderness, which we have done for the last 10-ish years. There was a dead area next to our cabana that's not supposed to be used, per the Wilderness. A family pulls up a bunch of chairs to sit in the dead spot, which was fine. It was super busy being 4th of July weekend and everyone deserves to cool off, right? As the family of 5 grew bigger, they started walking on our side, knocking over our drinks and kicking us as there was not enough room to walk around the lounge chairs without banging into us. They had ample room on the other side but chose to use our side after asking them not to. After a few rounds of this, I found the manager and asked him to speak to them. He said he knew "exactly what family I was speaking about" and assured us he would speak to them. The manager never came. I let it go. 2 hours had passed and the family of 5 grew to 15. It wasn't until they started using OUR cabana chairs that I said enough is enough. What is the point of renting a cabana if you're allowed to sit anywhere you want?! Obviously the rules only apply to some people and not all; if the manager did his job in the first place, instead of curtailing to people who shouldn't have been there, all this could've been avoided! The whole point of renting a cabana is privacy! I found the manager in the same spot as last time, giggling and laughing with his co-workers as I said, "Now they're sitting in our chairs! I came to you before and you did nothing! This is completely unacceptable." As the manager apologized more times than I could count - which the damage is done at this point. You should've done your damn job from the start - he finally approached the family who claimed they spoke no English - but spoke English the entire day, I digress - left allllllll their chairs and garbage on the ground as they walked away, even though there are garbage cans throughout the entire water park. The cherry on top was when one of the men said I shouldn't walk alone as they were leaving. I was threatened because they broke the rules and the manager didn't do his job. What was once my favorite water park has left such a bad taste in my mouth. I understand the expense we all pay to enjoy the experience, however if you're breaking the rules and causing a ruckus, you gotta go! What made that family's experience priority over my family's experience?! Shouldn't we all be able to share the same experience of making memories with our loved ones? You made a big mistake with this one, Wilderness. It's a shame.

Yelp
Hello I stayed in the Club Wyndam for my stay, so I had to use the shuttle for transportation. I can without a doubt say that Russ was my favorite shuttle driver on my stay here, I hope to come back soon and see him again. He made my stay here so much more enjoyable than the last time I came. But at the Wilderness on the lake there was a very rude woman who kept saying she would not transfer me and kept talking about another phone in the lobby, I was there the day before and they transferred me without a problem. So overall my trip was fine but work on staff kindness smh.

Maddie P.

Yelp
Our last trip here was a lot of fun. If you go during the week, rates are cheaper and a lot less crowding. The only downfall is not enough staffing for the parks, so the newly renovated Wild West was closed. Also the villa we stayed in was out dated and a bit run down. Dishes were in cupboards that were dirty, cannot control the villas air/heat due to it being locked, fire place in the bed room did not work, floors were pretty yucky with stained carpets and grout that hasn't been cleaned in a while. Overall was a good time, but the villa needed some work.

Kim H.

Yelp
We wanted to try the Wilderness hotel in the Wisconsin Dells, but unfortunately had to cancel our reservation 6 days prior to check in. I informed there was a$30 cancellation fee. This unreasonable. I travel for work and personal and this is not common practice. Yes they have it listed in the cancellation policy but it is so uncommon I would not have even considered it. Moving forward we will continue to stay at the Kahlahari

Kyla L.

Yelp
We stayed for two nights, Friday-Sunday late April. Check in was easy, our room was ready early at 2pm and we were able to go right there. The room is basic. Very small bathroom with no space for hanging suits without having water dripping all over the floor or toilet. 2 queen beds that are okay but the sheets come off with the slightest motion and the pillows are AWFUL! The coffee maker is old and generic with the worst coffee I have ever tasted. There is no information in the room about how things work like how to get a shuttle, or room service. They give you a map at check-in and that's it, good luck to you. You're pretty much just constantly walking around trying to figure out where things are or how to get to coffee, or breakfast, or the water park your kid wants to go to. Example- if you want new dry towels you have to call for them. I stupidly assumed they would refresh the room Saturday as it's a water park and everyone is wet and showering-wrong! How nice it would have been to have that information before we wanted to shower before dinner and had only cold wet towels in the room. I wish we'd gone with a hotel that just had the water stuff all in one building. The water parks are underwhelming. They each have some slides, a young kid play area, a hot tub, and adult only swim up bar/pool thing. The water is cold everywhere. The hot tubs are like bath water, the bar/pool water was too cold to stay in for long enough to drink your $20 nonalcoholic margarita. The lazy river is so shallow your legs drag in the ground. The floor of the wave pool is so rough all of us have skinned knees. The arcade/activities are pricey- most games cost $3+, $40 per kid to play lazer tag, ropes course, etc. In the end we had a good time because we enjoy being together, but it should have been so much better. I think they are just trying to do too much instead of focusing on doing one or two things really well. We all enjoyed our stays at smaller hotel/waterparks in Milwaukee and Chicago burbs much more.
